Restaurant Golden Lok in Zermatt

We were there for dinner with 11 people for my birthday. What we experienced and ate was simply excellent and the service was sensational. We will definitely eat there again next year. Many thanks to the entire team, especially to the kitchen.

Probably the best pizza in Zermatt. Went with a large group and were recommended a selection of pasta, pizza and starters. Top!

Special atmosphere in this restaurant with very original decor, it's a change from what you find in Zermatt! Nice menu with Italian dishes where truffle is in the spotlight. Excellent pizzas (no $$ given). Efficient, attentive and friendly service.

Alright ! The decor is magnificent, it feels like a salt mine. It’s clean and the service is impeccable. The tiramisu and soup were succulent, the dishes, however, slightly lacked flavor (especially the veggie pizza).

Everything was great, only the acoustics and service processes were a bit unfortunate. The kitchen-table processes were awkward because the food (pan dishes) was no longer warm enough. Good recommendations from the chef and friendly service🎩👏👍

We fell in love with the place (magnificent vaulted room and old golden locomotive), the quality Italian cuisine (truffle pasta and top pizza) and attentive service (the Italian chef visits his guests several times).

My husband and I had dinner at Golden Lok Down with friends last Wednesday. We were thrilled by the beautiful atmosphere in the restaurant, the extremely courteous and very friendly staff... Signore Brunetti, the chef de cuisine, personally welcomed us with his love worthy personality, all the fine menus are presented. The food tasted wonderful, the red wine was delicious... Food is just ok and they charged 8 francs for tap water. The service is confusing, our waiter tried to lie to us about what we were eating. The chef came down to apologize and the rest of the staff was great. Might just be one bad apple. Atmosphere is great.

There were four of us for dinner. Perfect support from the boss personally. Very good food al Italiana. Mega cool ambience with the original Gornergrat locomotive. Absolutely recommended.

The restaurant receives two stars, one for the interior, and one for good wine. The rest is a tragedy, and something you wouldn't want to pay for.

We ate very well in a magnificent setting. Only small complaints: access to the restaurant difficult because it is not indicated on the hotel (sign). We know this address from a friend. And no business card relating to the restaurant. Too bad, because this restaurant deserves to be known.

Just had dinner here last night and it is fantastic both the experience and food. You must try their pizzas. Some of the comments here are not fair to the restaurant, eg they DO NOT charge for tap water. Once seated, you have to be patient as they follow a system of serving the tables, just wait for your turn. I could imagine that when the restaurant is full, there is a longer waiting time but that’s life right. This is a restaurant that you must try in Zermatt.

Super cool here. Very nice and courteous service, even if we just wanted an Aperol spitz at the bar, shortly before noon. There was even water with a glass and a fine nut mixture. We'll be back in March and then for pizza as they have a wood oven. We came for dinner on March 12, 2023 and our expectations were fully met. Nice table and good & friendly service. Food was beautiful to the eye and very good to the palate. Attentive service. All courses are a pleasure from starters to dessert. Pizza perfect. Drinks also great. We will definitely come back.

Price performance does not match

We reserved a family evening with my wonderful children and my partner on the evening of Valentine's Day in this place on a very sad evening and of disgust at the behavior of the director who, with an annoyed and unnerved look by my son's games, told him in a tone nervous Its ok? Terrible choice of dishes, no atmosphere.. Never again.. treated like a fish in the face.. Ah To reserve you need a credit card number..

Not yet tested, but he is the former owner and pizza chef of the Rothorn restaurant where we enjoyed the best pizzas far and wide. Besides, everyone misses them at Rothorn. We are looking forward to discovering this new address! I already really like the architecture!!!

Website hours are not accurate. Arrived for a late lunch, entry through hotel was cordial, but waiter refused to great us when we arrived downstairs at restaurant. After waiting, we approach him and asked if we could have lunch. He mumbled back at us and continued setting his tables. Restaurant was empty, and he clearly wasn’t interested in serving. We left and won’t be back. So many other restaurants with friendly service in the area!

Nice setting in this basement with this astonishing locomotive. I recommend the tomato soup and beetroot salad as a starter.

Delicious food, unfortunately very slow service. We waited for about one hour till we got some bread and our starters. About 50 minutes later we got our pizzas. Very friendly staff just not the fastes service.

Good salad, pizza and dessert. Amazing room, like a railway tunnel with a genuine 1898 electric cog railway locomotive (painted gold) at it's centre. Quite a thing to see. Don't try to find it from the Englischer Viertel address. Instead from Bayard on the Bahnhofstrasse turn 10m down Hinterdorfstrasse then right down the illuminated path.

Great joy to see that there is another exciting, new restaurant in Zermatt. Unfortunately, too little emphasis was placed on service quality. Great decoration by the locomotive, bold color, high-quality stones, opulent fabric & good acoustics. Really a good visual experience. The food was very good, but unfortunately my pasta was cold. The service staff tried very hard, but unfortunately too many things didn't work as expected. The discount was a good gesture. Maybe the team needs a winter season to get things going well.

Dont trust the google rating, this restaurant deserved more than 10*. Their pasta is superb, service is the best so far i had in zermatt, definitely recommended for everyone whos visiting zermatt.

Great service but much too slow, both for the dishes where you had to ask several times when it would be ready and so much to get the bill. Otherwise, the pasta and pizzas are good and the relaxed atmosphere is pleasant in a magnificent setting!

I wanted to love this place but it unfortunately ended up being the worst restaurant I've ever been to. It got off to a good start, the second we walked in, attentive staff quickly seated us, but that's where the service ground to a halt. We were sat for over 25 minutes before and still nobody had taken our order or bought over the tap water we ordered when seated (they also tried charging us 8CHF for the tap water). After 30+ minutes of sitting, I called the male waiter over - this waiter was called Giuseppe. When I said we had been sat for well over half an hour and asked if we could please have our water and order, he laughed in my face and said can't you see there is only 2 of us here. Usually I'd appreciate the fact a restaurant is understaffed and busy however the restaurant was quiet. I counted 10-12 tables of 2-4 people. We ordered the Italian cold cuts, it was a small plate of cold ham. This took over 15 minutes to arrive and came out without the bread. The bread then took a further 22 minutes to arrive (without butter, despite all other tables being served bread and butter). By this point our Italian cold cuts was a little unappealing having sat at room temperature for near to half an hour. We were a table of 2, we didn't order multiple dishes so it was pretty shocking that one pizza and one pasta dish took 1.5 hours to arrive. Food wise, the pasta was fine - it properly tasted so good as we were starving at this point. The pizza however was dreadful. Soggy base, chewy, doughy crust. It was undercooked and underwhelming much like the restaurant and staff. It's worth noting that we had four separate interactions with Giuseppe (the young Italian male waiter) and each time he was outrageously rude, laughed in my face twice and my partner's face once. He should not be in hospitality. The worst attitude I've ever come across in any customer facing setting. Advice for management: I write about food and restaurants for a living, I've therefore eaten in hundreds of restaurants all around the world. You have a restaurant which could be great. I'd advise you immediately get rid of Giuseppe as he will ruin your brand, hire more staff and offer training - they need to be more efficient and put some nice music on in the restaurant. You have a beautiful setting, you have speakers but there was radio silence - create some ambience!! Anyone thinking of visiting here - the food doesn't quite hit the spot, it's exceptionally overpriced and the service is the worst I've experienced. I'd stay clear and head somewhere else!

None of your servers seem to be interested in greeting the customers. Stepped in and left us sat here alone for 10 minutes. Left the restaurant, good luck in running this place.

This was a great restaurant in the bottom of the hotel. Had great ambiance even though we were in a far corner of the dining room. It was a very busy night. All of the food was very good but the veal chops I had and I have been the best I've ever had.

I usually don’t write reviews but this restaurant was really amazing, probably the best in Zermatt. The food was incredible, the service as well. One of the best steaks I ever had in my life. The pasta was out of the world! Going back for sure :)

Great evening with great service and lots of fun. Since everyone admires the old GGB locomotive in the middle of the restaurant, it's relaxed and not at all stiff. Plus really good Italian food and great pizza with a good base and crispy edges. Well, even though I was already full of Minestrone and Pizza Valaisienne, I had to try the Nutella pizza out of pure curiosity. Of course it's sweet and not for every day, but there's Grappe on the menu for that 😂😂😂. Absolutely worth a visit, you are warmly welcomed and looked after, it was a really good evening.

Wow, we were lucky enough to be able to reserve a table for 5 at short notice. We were told that it was closed from 8 p.m. both when we made the reservation and when we arrived - great. The ambience with the stylish furnishings and the golden locomotive as an eye-catcher was only topped by the extremely delicious food!

I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara which came with bacon pieces. The dish was overwhelmingly salty from the bacon. The dish is also relatively small for 23 Chf. Tap water for 4 Chf / per bottle ridiculous in my opinion.

Reservations are easily made online. The restuarant is hard to find. Turn left when you see Bayard and then your first right. The chef sent us a few complimentary pizza slices which was very kind but they were quite cold. My gnocchi dish was delicious. Very fresh and balanced. My family's spaghetti dishes were over-salted. They chose to continue to eat them and give feedback to our server. The server shared the feedback with the manager who graciously offered us lemoncello as an apology which we declined. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The service was pretty good. We weren't aware they charged for water as no where else has charged us when we asked for tap water. The rose should be a touch cooler. Overall, a pleasant experience.

The location is just amazing and the dishes are excellent (the gnocchi are to die for), the price/quality ratio is top notch! Das Lokal is unglaublich, die Nahrung ist ausgezeichnet, eine der beste Addresse von Zermatt!

Excellent surprise at this restaurant located in the center of Zermatt. Brilliant decor in this granite cave, comfort and friendly and attentive service, quality food, top-notch menu and the little extra: almost unrivaled value for money for a resort like Zermatt. I highly recommend.

Last week we spontaneously decided to have dinner at the “Golden Lokdown” and were served extremely courteously. The homemade pasta was outstanding; there was absolutely nothing to complain about. We will be back definitely!

A great place with a great menu, great service, and most important, an outstanding atmosphere! Tip: The restaurant can be hard to find. Well, harder than it should. But just head for the hotel entry, since they share the same door. We had a great dinner experience here. The host and waitress were great, the menu contains a wide selection of dishes, and most of the things are also priced well. Might be even cheaper than some other restaturants in Zermatt. The octopus salad, with French sauce, is definitely a recommendation!

Currently another insider tip in Zermatt that I can only recommend! Super nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive service and the food tasted excellent! There were still 2-3 uncertainties with the service, but this was understandable so soon after the opening and was made up for with the charm and attentiveness.

A restaurant as you wish. Very friendly staff, good food at reasonable prices. You feel welcome from the start and the food selection is very diverse, so there is something for everyone. The golden piece of the restaurant is the golden locomotive which evokes the atmosphere and ambience of a special trip to the Valais Alps.
