Rice Up! in Bern

Very cool concept and the food looks really tasty and appealing. The selection of ingredients is also very large and everyone will find something to suit their taste. The employees are extremely friendly and very well-positioned despite their hectic everyday life. Compliments for that! The only negative point is the rather steep prices.

The bowls are really tasty. You can put them together as you wish. When there's a lot going on, it can sometimes be a bit hectic... But the selection is great and the peanut sauce is really delicious :) we really enjoy getting food here.

Delicious travel dishes and friendly staff, always good for a quick lunch. However, the prices are quite high.

I was so happy that I found Thai food in this city. I was sick of eating bread and pastries already. There are options that you can choose please pick it wisely. I saw lots of negative comments about the food here. But, i don’t agree with them. The food I had was super delicious, I had rice, red curry, corn, beef and vegetables. My hubby got noodles and green curry. The price is the most affordable, you cannot find Thai food cheaper than this place in town. Highly recommended!!!!

Today on February 13th, 2024 I unfortunately have to edit the review again... Written and unchanged a year ago: The food is delicious, but for a long time now you've been getting smaller and smaller portions for the same price. I probably went to Rice Up in Bern once or twice a week, but now I don't feel like it anymore. Today I received almost no meat and only 2 pieces of broccoli... I also received less of the sauce than ever before. (the portions have now become more of a snack instead of a meal) I find it a shame how this location has deteriorated significantly for the worse in the last 2-3 months. When I asked the employee about it, he said he could give me more for twice the price?? From then on I knew that I would get the food somewhere else. Very, very sad, unfortunately Added today February 13, 2024: I think it's a shame that reviews like this are ignored and I can't even expect a response from companies. I've probably eaten at Rice Up 150 times in my life but never again from now on!

You've probably accepted some criticism. However, there is still WAY TOO LITTLE sauce. 3 spoons of rice and the sauce is gone. It's a shame because the food doesn't really taste like anything without sauce...

I only got 4 meat balls. For another 5 pieces they want 5 fr extra di spiders but then the seller is really cheeky once and never again. Absolutely not worth recommending

Food made from rice, as the name suggests. To combine with a vegetable and possibly meat. The quality of the food, as well as the tastes, are really very good. The price is relatively expensive, considering that it is takeaway. At midday, there can be quite a wait.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., leftover rice was scraped off the pan and more leftovers were taken from the container. Was frantically asked several times for a bag and didn't receive one. No goodbye and nothing. The rice and tofu didn't taste like usual. The next day I had a stomach ache, then vomiting and diarrhea.

I've only known RiceUp in Bern for a few months, but I've known since my first visit that I'll be here regularly: fine food, freshly prepared, but it still happens very, very quickly. About the ambience: You eat either on the go or in this shared restaurant area in the train station.

Was at Riceup again yesterday! The food is mostly delicious. But I only like to go when the little Thai lady is serving. She always prepares the food beautifully and efficiently and is always very polite and extremely friendly. Puts you in a good mood during your lunch break!

I always order the same thing and am never disappointed, the food is always fresh and delicious! As a vegan you still have a lot to choose from. Two meat alternatives and 2 of 4 sauces are also vegan! I always like to come and order something after training

I have suffered from celiac disease since birth and have never had such good advice regarding my allergies as here in Bern. The food I discovered here is super delicious! The staff are competent and helpful, and the food not only tastes fantastic, but is also healthy. I would like to thank you very much for your willingness to help. There are many people who claim to know what gluten is, but in reality have no idea. For people like me who suffer from celiac disease, it is incredibly important to be able to confide in co-workers. I give this restaurant 5 stars! I am very stunned. Thank you again for the gluten free meal. ❣️🙌🏼

They have a large selection of toppings to add to the rice, as well as grains to use for base. You can make many combinations and get a healthy balance of carbs vegetable and proteins. The people working there are friendly and patient if you don’t know what to select, or don’t speak German.

Today I bought a menu that costs 13.50 CHF, BUT THEY CHARGED ME 3.50 CHF BECAUSE I KNEW I WAS A TIRISTA AND HE HAS FOOLED ME!!! RICE WITH A LITTLE CHICKEN AND BRICOLE FOR 17CHF. IT IS A SHAME TO STEAL TOURISTS, IT WILL BE THE LAST TIME I WILL BUY SOMETHING THERE

RiceUp is simply TOP The portions are large, good value for money and very healthy food. I give 4 stars out of 5 because it's only open until 8 p.m. on weekends😅 Still happy again😋

Favorite restaurant to get some quick food.

I made my own beef ricebowl and it tastes as good as those I can get in asia. The portion is also very large and sufficient. Staff is friendly and efficient too!

By far one of the stingiest take a ways there is. Can't use a sauce because of the allergens and asked if I could have more salad as an option and they wanted to charge me extra for it. Stinginess is cool was definitely the last time. It's actually a shame because the quality of the food would be good but the portions are just too small.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the sentiment, the taste is great, portions are rather small. That used to be better, but now the quantity is only just enough. In my experience, whether I'm full or not depends primarily on who's serving.

I've tried the crusher and it's super good, seasoned, great.

Employees were under stress (probably at the train station) but nice in the end. The problem was that my partner and I ordered different sauces and toppings, as well as planted chicken and normal. Unfortunately the plates were swapped (wrong toppings for planted chicken vs normal chicken - not so great as a veggie). When we went back to complain, we were told that we could simply swap (reminder: different sauce, different toppings...), but we weren't against throwing things away either, so we asked for the toppings to be added, which was done . It probably wouldn't have made any difference because the taste was average to poor. (The jasmine rice was delicious though). In the end, some of it ended up in the trash. :(

The rice bowls are so good! Service is very fast and the food was super fresh and tasty. You can build your own or choose one from the menu. Make sure you double check if rice is included in the menu choices, because some don't have rice as a base.

It's no secret that meat-containing side dishes are rationed, but the fact that on my last visit I was able to enjoy five meatballs with a new diameter suitable for a child's mouth impressed me deeply. However, I'm still having a bit of a hard time finding the gold flakes in the rice for 14 CHF. Like some long-time customers, I regret the lack of care here. Unfortunately my last visit for now.

As always, the food is fresh and great 👍🏻 but often lukewarm to cold. Certain sellers make very small portions, others fill the bowl. (currently 150-200g difference) for 17.- the bowl should actually be well filled.

I ate here for the first time today and unfortunately probably for the last time. The service wasn't really helpful and made the food very bland. Didn't really help me even though it was my first time there. He pointed out to me that the food was cold and I didn't really understand why it couldn't be warmed up. Didn't really explain to me what was what. And at the end I wasn't even given a topping that I asked for. The food would have been good if it had been warm. So unfortunately I was just disappointed and would rather go back to the neighbors at Rice Up, where they have warm food, good service and it costs half as much...

I visit rise up once a week..for 16.90fr menu satay counted for 8..9 pieces of meat extremely expensive..staff is not really customer oriented either..not recommended 😖

Super nice service and very tasty food

So far I have always been satisfied with the quality, price and quantity of the portion. Today I got half a ladle of red rice with little meat and a lot of sauce. When I asked if that was half a portion, the young lady told me “no, that’s normal”. I am very disappointed and have lost myself as a regular customer. This is how you scare away customers. A pity! UPDATE: 2 full ladles of red rice (there is no chicken satay, only from 11:00) so half a ladle of minced meat. When I asked if I could have a little more or 2 small meatballs, the answer was no unless I paid an additional 5.50! It's funny, the customer in front of me (another waitress) got both.

If I could I'd leave no star at all! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER. I had had a great experience with Rice Up! in Basel and got really excited to try again. Oh. My. God. What a disappointment! The lady who assited me was of no help at all and just rushed me through it. Never bothered actually answering any dish related or menu option questions. While my mother was being served by an even ruder staff who just prssured her to move along. To calm them down we let people in the cue go ahead, yet the staff got even more arrogant and rude. I think they're probably being paid by the number of plate they serve per day. Anyway, the whole thing was just pathetic enough so I'll leave it at that...

Large portions, delicious food and a short waiting time

What happened... Once or twice a month I allow myself the luxury of buying the cheapest menu for 14.- The food is really tasty and with the large portion it justifies the price. Now Rice Up has secretly and brazenly reduced the portion size, but the price remains the same! I can no longer afford this expensive fun in the future and am looking for other alternatives. Previously I would have given 4 stars :)

Lack of chicken almost always half an hour to an hour before the end of the day there is no more chicken

First, you choose from salad, rice noodles, brown rice, or white rice, and then choose the ingredients, vegetables, sauce, and toppings to put on top. You won't be able to choose too slowly, so I think it's a good idea to decide in advance. There is also a child size (up to 10 years old), so it was the perfect size for my 10 year old daughter who can't eat a single serving. You can also choose this as well. There are already set menus, so if you're having trouble choosing, I think that's the way to go. I was able to order in English.

Unacceptable!!! I come very often (once a week) and I like to come because the food is good, but I am more and more disappointed with the quality: less and less quantity in the dishes, the dishes are cold, high prices for a fast food and that Staff is not pleasant. Also today I found a piece of bone in my chicken.

Edit April 9, 2022: unfortunately I have to reduce my 4 stars to 2. For me the price-performance ratio is no longer right, the portions have become a lot smaller and the prices have increased. I'm definitely no longer ready for a bowl with salad for 15.- Chf. to pay because the quantity is simply unsatisfactory and absolutely not filling. The staff doesn't seem to be very motivated either. For me, this was definitely my last visit for the time being🤷🏼‍♀️ Excellent food and sometimes you can get a little more if you wish🙊, nice service. However, I think the price is rather high with just the salad at 13.90 as well as 1.80 for an additional egg.

Be aware of the prices. They charge you extra just because they decide in the last moment to make up as a seasonal thing

I'm a big fan of the bowls, they're always fresh and very tasty. I've been eating at Rice Up Bern regularly for a long time and lately the portions have been getting smaller and smaller, and the amount of meat (or tofu, etc.) is now a huge joke. Despite everything, prices are still the same! When I asked the staff, they said they had instructions from higher up to prepare smaller portions. It's a shame to rip people off so obviously!

I came back after a year, but I don't like it anymore, hasty and unpolite service, food thrown there, everything mixed up. I couldn't wait to eat there again, but I'm disappointed. Even the price increased too much, that's why the only place where there was no queue.

Most disgusting thing I have tasted in a long time. I could only eat the beans and part of the rice not touched by the sauce. The plant based whatever is disgusting, as is the satay sauce (sweet brew all over). Had to throw a full plate away and buy something else.

I actually think the food is good, but the employees are so demotivated that it's no fun to order there... Example today: ordered all the toppings, arrived home and found that there were exactly 2 pepperoncini, nothing else, That was a bit bland and disappointing.

Have been a guest on and off for several years. In conclusion, I have to say that the price/performance is actually not right. The sauce is always quite scarce, if you want just a little more you'll pay extra. I also think the other prices - especially after the recent increase - are rather high. I also noticed today that other vegetables and toppings have also sneaked into my menu. I would find this particularly critical if someone had a peanut allergy!

I like the food a lot, but I think the prices for some rice are rather high. I would like to highlight the little Asian lady. She is always very nice and always remembers me. She often waves from the store when you just walk past it. Very attentive 😀

It used to be good, now it's bad. Hardly any sauce unless you pay extra. Chicken is now cheaper than tofu. No more go-to address. A pity.

I have been a customer since the beginning and eat with you several times a week. Unfortunately, problems have been increasing recently: employees don't wear masks consistently, food is put in my bowl by my bare hand (e.g. pasta) or I find hair in the food. Your quality has deteriorated and at the same time you are increasing the price. Please sort this out, otherwise I won't be coming anymore because it disgusts me to some extent.

Way too expensive! Food was cold. I wanted peanuts as a topping. Unfortunately I got it from everything. There was also coriander in there. Since I'm allergic, I couldn't even eat half of the bowl...

Very tasty and surprisingly decent quality for a fast food restaurant. Decent options for vegetarians, but less so for pescatarians. Lots of flavour palate variety to choose from. Good portion sizes and while not the cheapest food you can find, it does provide better value for money than most. Highly recommended.

Located inside the Bern train station ground floor—it is convenient, affordable (by Switzerland standards), and tasty. The staff that assisted me (lady with dark hair on Sept 29 around 11:15am) was kind and patient despite me taking my time making my choices, the friendly experience definitely made my impression of the place better! You choose a bowl base (rice, noodles, or salad), a meat, a veggie, a sauce, and additional topics (slaw, chopped peanuts, etc.). I got rice noodles, prawns, seasonal veggies, satay sauce, slaw and chopped peanuts and the bowl cost around ~$17CHF. The food was delicious (the satay sauce really tied the dish together) and could even be for 2 meal! Definitely will visit them again in other Swiss cities and the next time I'm in Switzerland!

Suppa food, great taste, suppa friendly service and it's really quick Bravo 👏 but it often happens that for the amount you pay you don't get the desired portion/side dishes like the guest before you 😅.

Very fine food, I've been eating there for years and is definitely one of the best you can find at Bern train station. Unfortunately I can't understand the opening times... Only until 8 p.m. on weekends? Unimaginable, especially if you have a location at a train station. Today, August 1st, I even came for free because it was already closed at 6 p.m.... all the other take aways on the left and right were open... There's no shortage of customers, it's always pretty busy there. So I don't see why Rice Up can't have normal opening hours for a train station.

Amazing how fast the staff is while remaining friendly. The food is good and the quantity big.

Late review, but still can remember how great the food was at this restaurant. Definitely worth giving a try when in Bern!
