The service was really bad! I feel sorry for the chef who served us amazing food. The waiter/owner ruined the whole experience. We do not recommend, especially for that price.

Edit based on response: Left a well thought out review and "team shin" ignores and tries to disparage reviewers. Embarrassing. It was a disappointing experience that left me questioning the Michelin guide's judgment. The taste and quality of the sushi fell far short of the expectations associated with such a prestigious accolade. From the moment I arrived, it was evident that something was amiss. The atmosphere was pleasant, but the lack of attention to detail in the dishes was glaring. Sushi, often celebrated for its delicate balance of flavors and textures, felt uninspired and lacked the finesse I expected. Even, easy to deliver pieces were a let down. One of the most disheartening aspects of the evening was the owner's involvement in explaining the dishes. It became apparent that the owner lacked the deep understanding of the food, leaving me yearning for insights from the chef, who should have been the true star of the evening. Unfortunately, my experience is not unique, as I've come across similar sentiments from fellow diners and reviewers. This experience has shaken my faith in the Michelin guide, as it seems they may have awarded stars to establishments that are no longer deserving. In conclusion, it was a letdown in terms of taste, quality, and overall experience, and it has made me reevaluate the credibility of Michelin ratings. I believe the owner should consider allowing the chef to shine and focus on refining the culinary offerings, decor, and drink options to regain their reputation.

I rarely write reviews, however this needed some words. The bad reviews are true. The owner takes aways so much from what could have been an enjoyable experience. The price point is far to high in relation to what this omakase is. The owner who was visiably drunk, and ramblings. Her demonor could best be described as a mix between loud, rude and pompous. Miss Lin whos knowledge of fine dining is obviously limited, belitted the staff and treated the four guest , and her date as outsiders. We arrived on the night of a fresh Tuna cutting omakase. To what we imagined to be a delightful joy filled experience with special cuts and treats. Was insted a well done, but basic omakase for the five guest while cut after cut of prime tuna was served to the owner and none of the guest including her date. While she made photos for her instrgam while we all watched in awe. To which i asked what menu are those on. Our tasting menu missed all the elements that are included in menus at this price point around the globe. Taste , and experience with a michelin star are normally abslute, however one wonders if there was a bribe in place or was the reviewer in on a day the owner wasent present . As someone who travels the world eating at some of the top resturants the price point to service and experience of sushi shin is laughable at best. For 400 fracs per person and only having water mind you. We expected much more. This omakase was the equivalent to a $200 worth od sushi at Blue Ribbon in nyc. And that's selling Blue Ribbon short. I think it would do Sushi Shin and miss Lin a favor to see what really happening outside the bubbles she currently lives and whats being offered around the world. I feel bad for the chef as he was highly skilled however the owner is delusional in what she's offing and how much it should cost. Nothing here was above average at this level.

The food, ingredients and dedication of the 16 small courses are really top. However, CHF 350 per person for these modest portions is out of proportion. I think many will remain hungry. I don't really find Michelin restaurants with paper napkins appealing. Gastronomy also has to do with passion and hospitality - the service staff shows this; Unfortunately the owner/manager doesn't really.

I went to Shin yesterday. I called the owner Mrs Lin Wang and asked if the reservation was possible a week before. She mentioned it is ok. So I booked 20:00 second seating yesterday. After that I received an email with a link for prepayment of CHF 300.- Since I was able to change my working schedule and was able to come at 18:00 I called Mrs Wang to ask if it would be possible to change the time to 18:00. She confirmed that this is still possible in short notice. While we spoke on the phone I mentioned that we are Vegan and we can only eat vegetables and fruits and it is my child’s birthday. She was ok with it. We spoke for a longer time on the phone as she has mentioned that she also has a child similar age. As we arrived yesterday we entered the restaurant and hanged our jackets in the hall. Mrs Wang approach us shortly after that and showed the seats at the bar counter. There was a reusable table mat and disposable napkin and chopsticks prepared. We took a seat. Mrs Wang recommended Champagne as for my child birthday but thanks Lord we didn’t order it as my child is non-alcoholic and never drinks alcohol and I was driving. We ordered sparkling water and a reusable bottle with self made Soda Steam water was served. The dinner started. Each dish was a small piece of sushi ( one piece 3 cm to 1,5 cm dimensions as one dish ). Since we are Vegan we received each time rice with: small slice of red pepper than bean than aubergine than mushroom than edamame. There was also mini miso soup 1 dlc and mini roll. As desert we received each of us two grapes cut in the middle and small Chinese bean sweets. After we finished everything I asked Mrs Wang for the bill. I mentioned I prepaid CHF 300.- so I would like to pay for the sparkling water. Mrs told me that I still have to pay CHF 450.- for the food and water. I couldn’t understand what she meant. She said, didn’t you read our website. The small items served this night cost CHF 350.- for each person plus the water. I was shocked since the rice, small pieces of vegetables and two small grapes could not cost more than CHF 20.- in total. The water was definitely made with Soda Stream which costs per bottle CHF 0.50 Rappen. Our costs of the meal could not be more than CHF 25.- total. I understand we pay for a great experience but excuse me not 700.- Swiss Francs. This is a Gian ripoff. If Mrs would inform me upfront that I will pay CHF 700.- for tiny items worth CHF 25.- I would never book this restaurant. Instead I would go to a professional high class restaurant a have 5 course fine dining dinner. Mrs Wang had one Chef, a very friendly English speaking professional man and one Asian waiter. The Chef was excellent and did a great job. The waiter was also very nice and did his best. Mrs Wang tried to educate us on Japanese Eating habits. She spoke about the best quality products which as she mentioned are only available in her restaurant and nowhere else in Ch. She spoke about a very expensive Fish from Pacific Ocean which costs a fortune… She mentioned she is Chinese and can’t speak Japanese. She also completed about terrible weather and even worst food in Switzerland. She told us about the problem with finding employees for service and management of her mini restaurant. That is why she was actually doing everything: Service, cleaning, phone answering… She said that many people cancelled in last minute that was why the first serving 18:00 was with 6 people including me and my child and the second service 20:00 only three people. While I asked her about the Michelin Star, if she received it because of her excellent Chef. She said disrespectfully that the star is for her expensive food and not for the Chef. She said she could change her Chef any time and keep the star. The Chef heard that of course. I can imagine how she treats her employees and how she pay them. Here I see the reason of problems with finding employees. Who wants to work for such a monster. She told us, she will close the restaurant soon and leave Switzerland as she hates the weather and food . She is lying.

Oh how should I begin this one…. I never had such an experience in any Michelin stars restaurant before; and believe me, between Thailand, Singapore and EU, I’ve been to many ( Possibly as many as 45). That’s saying something! As of February, 2023, I’ve had Approximately reviewed 200 restaurants on google and none is as bad as this (service wise). First off we got there at 6.30 (the time of our reservation). We were told by the lady owner that we were late, as she has emailed us that she changed our reservation time to 6.10 (that’s an odd time considering that the restaurant has not open for business yet). Ok, so a rough start. So this restaurant has 8 seats at the sushi bar and five tables. I was like ok? Why do you need tables at Omakase restaurant, maybe it’s for A la Carte. I don’t know. But I’ll soon find out. So once we were sat at the sushi bar, the food started coming. I would say that the courses were well placed and paced; as to be expected from restaurant of this calibre. However, when we got to the 13 out of our 16 courses, the lady owner promptly kicked us out of the sushi bar to the table…. I was left puzzled. Who does that?; let alone Michelin star restaurant. We ate the remaining of our food at the table covered with some art paper. Not exactly Michelin star is it? So why the two stars? The food was undeniably good, so I have to be fair to the Japanese (who was very polite and friendly. He was the reason why this establishment get the star in the first place). And the other star was for the waiter, which was a young Swiss gentleman who tried his best to serve the customers. As for The lady owner, well she isn’t a bad person or anything. However, I don’t think she’s right for the hospitality industry. She has no understanding whatsoever how to serve a customer, let alone this kind of Omakase dinning. She tries too hard to sell customers drinks and alcohol. She also only focused on those who ordered alcohol and she missed the part that every customer has the right to enjoy the evening. And I saw the owner reply to one review with a threatening message to take legal action? I mean that’s not a great idea. You should take the criticisms and improve on it. You are on the right path, you have great chef, great food and great waiter. You just need to focus on improving the customer experience. Sometimes, it isn’t about maximizing the profit. If you think you cannot finish the courses on time before the second serving, do something about it; perhaps hire more staff or extend the business hours. Removing the customers from the sushi bar isn’t the ideal solution. Worse yet, blaming the customer for being late when they weren’t was another horrible solution. Overall Food - Great Hospitality - Poor Recommendation - Definitely not

1 star? Never! Last Friday we were at Shin. The anticipation was very great because we were in a Japanese star restaurant in Milan a few months ago and we were impressed. So our expectations were very high. When we arrived at Shin we were welcomed by the owner Lin and since our seats weren't ready yet, we had to wait at a table for about 10 minutes. Our jackets were not removed and nothing to drink was offered. So we sat there, as ordered and not picked up, and waited for our table. When we were then led to our seats at the counter, it took another 25 minutes until we finally got something to drink and then our first bite of nigiri. Overall, the food was very good and of high quality, I can't say anything bad about it. The Japanese chefs were very friendly and were really masters of their craft. The service was the owner herself. She said that she has been alone for a week and is therefore doing the service. After reading the other reviews here, I noticed that she never has anyone on service. Although the quality was very good, it was simply far too little. And by way too little I mean WAY TOO LITTLE! We paid a total of CHF 735 (CHF 345 per person without drinks) for two people, without alcohol and were still hungry at the end. SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVE and still hungry!!! I've been to many star restaurants, such as Maaemo in Oslo, Belcanto in Lisbon, Steiereck in Vienna, IYO in Milan and a few more, and I've never left a star kitchen hungry. In my opinion this is a rip off, definitely! Even if the nigiris are of good quality and taste good, the price is never worth it. NEVER!!! A star kitchen is not just about the food, but also the service, the ambience and everything else that surrounds it. The service was poor as there was actually no staff there except for the owner Lin. And she wasn't really friendly. She was also watching Instagram stories or TikTok videos with the guests to our left and sometimes hugged them, etc. Well, I just didn't think it was that professional, sorry. Finally came dessert; 1 mochi and a few pieces of fruit. Conclusion: Nigiris is good, food is generally high quality, but far too little for the price. Price performance out of all proportion, far too expensive! Service, which one? I don't call that a service. So I was more than just disappointed. Never a star in my eyes! Whoever is responsible for this star should be ashamed of themselves!!!

Alright, lets talk about the three stars. Lets talk about the food. Amazing and great. Loved every bite of our omakase. Exceptional service worthy of the 1 michelin star and the owner was very knowledgeable and give us some more information on the food. It was a smaller seating, 6 of us total, so it felt more personable and I learned a little bit about sushi and the cuisine. Okay, so why 3 stars? It was the end of the experience that left a sour taste in our mouth. Being in the hospitality industry, I understand when there are friends or regulars in the building. Regular diners are great for business. 6 of us total including my wife and I and it was evident that the owner knew the group of 4 on a more personal level than just another guest. Nothing wrong with that. Where I felt put off was at the end. For 95% of the meal, it was an amazing experience. For a table of 2 at a 1 star omakase, we spent just shy of 900 dollars including food drinks and tip. That is not some cheap amount. The omakase was 600 so we spent another 300 in alcohol and tip. We definitely drank and had a couple rounds of whiskey. At the end of the meal, we felt less important and that we were not as valued as the other guest. We watched the owner give out extra course and a round of shots while we sat there. We were ready to pay and we were left to ourselves for some time while she conversed with the guests and proceeded to close them out. Up until the last 20 or so minutes, it was great. But the last minutes, we felt unimportant and that our presence didnt matter. Sure, we were travelling and may not ever end up in Zurich again, but up until this point, it was on our must recommend and try again list. Now other than this ending, everything else was great. Food was on point and the service, for the most part as well. I guess you could say we would recommend it as well

We visited Shin last night for our anniversary dinner, we had a sit at the bar of a very nicely styled room. Loved the decor and atmosphere. The experiences had both positive and negative aspects: Positive: the food was incredible, the chefs are obviously very talented and presented an array of researched and delicious dishes. We were very impressed by. They were also very courteous and appreciative of the feedback. The waitress was lovely, just started and checked on us frequently. Negative: the owner did not ensure all guests had a great experience. During our stay two guests were at the bar near us and she entertained them all night with a conversation that ended up impacting everyone experience. She did not consider the fact every guest had the right to enjoy a special night, instead she only focus on this conversation basically ruining everyone else night (please note the two guys near me had no fault at all). This was not our first time is restaurant this level and never before we have been neglected that much by the top manager. When someone chooses such restaurant, he/she does it for the overall experience not just for the food. And the experience here (not the food) deserve basically no stars. Wine: the list of wine is incredible but really offers no options beside crazy prices wines. I guess is intentional. But did not sit well with me. Lastly the amount of food was on the very light. Worked for me but I can see how others may not appreciate it. Overall chef, food and the young waitress deserve many starts but unfortunately the experience was highly impacted but the lack of caring for the clients and because of that I would not give more than 2 stars as average. Hope the owner can reflect on this and improve the experience at the restaurant. If you visiting Shin, ensure you are sitting in a quiet corner.

Severely overrated. Price/quality is completely out of balance. The amount was moderate. The wine list is not exciting at all. Only French wines from the well-known and expensive houses. Price starts at 190 euros. The owner clearly has no knowledge of wine. Switzerland itself has beautiful affordable wines that are even better than those obvious French wines. The owner is quite arrogant by constantly dropping names and telling how exquisite her food is.

Most of the pieces of fish were overly salted or preserved. This didn’t allow me to even appreciate any quality in the fish. Instead all I could taste was the saltiness. Additionally, the chef didn’t explain a single piece or even let us know what type of fish the piece is. Not only was the quality and taste not as good as I expected but the quantity was shockingly small. We only got around 7 pieces each and a few small dishes. Given the lack of quality and such a small quantity I feel the prices are really not justified. Additionally the service was very lacking: after we finished the sushi we were kicked off the sushi bar to a table to finish our desert so other customers can go to the bar for the next seating. The manager/host was also quite rude the whole night and seemingly judgemental to everyone in our party. Other people in my party asked why she was so mad. Overall I wouldn’t recommend going here as nothing was great: the fish quality wasn’t great, the service was very poor, the quantity of food was extremely small, the whole meal seemed smaller than most sushi appetizers, and the design of the restaurant was uncomfortable as the chairs at the sushi bar were so low you couldn’t see across the bar and instead we’re looking up at the chef. Additionally it was very insulting after all of this to be kicked off the sushi bar and forced to eat deserts elsewhere so they could get more customers in.

+ delicious bits from high quality + talented chef (but this is what we expected from a Michelin star restaurant anyway) +/- just one menue, but varied and well paced But many negatives: - we went out hungry - very expensive for what you get - we even had to pay a deposit for the reservation - manager/waitress with no empathy and warmth - manager/waitress, who was definitely not trained in a star restaurant - manager/waitress talked loudly with guests (indiscrete) - overpriced wine and Sake card and lack of knowledge and guidance from the waitress - strange atmosphere Conclusion: never again

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, VERY VERY TALENTED CHEF ...Unfortunately, he is not the owner. The owner, is the person who also doubles as the waitress and was sitting on one of the tables checking her mobile while we arrived. Kept doing the same during our visit. She is not a trained restaurator, just someone trying to make as much money as possible without much attention to customer care. It is clear she did not want to pay for a trained waiter/waitress. Waitresses do not spend time on their mobile phones in Michelin star restaurants... The sushi the chef prepares are absolutely great but for the price, the quantity is too little. I was hungry after I finished the dinner. I prefer to give direct feedback generally so I called the chef to the table and told him he is a star but the food is not sufficient. Roughly 10 pieces of sushi for the menu and a few different dishes. He told me he would pass my feedback to the owner. A few moments later the owner/ waitress came and asked to know what I told the chef. I told her the food is great but not enough quantity to justify 300 CHF per person menu. Her reply was they bring top quality product from overseas and many people were not even able to finish the menu. I guess she implied we eat too much. And for me that was the end of it. Yes, Zurich is expensive but we are not stupid.. The Chef deserves a much better location. I feel sorry for him. Never again...

Found this restaurant during a random walk and decided to visit, after the first visit I've been dining in this restaurant for multiple times and on different occasions. I must say that both service and food are at top notch, the sushi is perfectly seasoned and made. The chefs knows the ingredients very well and is very open for any questions. Personally I'd say it's one of the best sushi omakase in Europe, undoubtedly the best in Switzerland. The owner, Lin, is also super friendly and great to get along with. She has absolutely amazing taste on wine! I would recommend all fine dining lovers to come here and have the best sushi omakase in Switzerland!

By far the best Omakase we have ever tasted. Due to the fact that you can watch the chef preparing (⭐️ -chef), gives the whole a very special character. I must say that I was able to taste the best tuna here, as well as the best shrimp. You really don't need teeth for this :) - anyone who has ever had the pleasure of eating high quality fish/seafood knows exactly what I mean. For the rest it is: TEST IT! Lin, the owner of the restaurant, is a very fun-loving and attentive hostess. We enjoyed the time - although it flew by - very much. Thank you for the experience. Fresh & unique products, which makes every food lover's heart beat faster. A two-hour culinary journey to Japan. We will be happy to come back again!

I have visited this amazing restaurant several times since it opened in Zurich. The quality of the sushi/fish/seafood is simply amazing and it remains consistent since it opened. The Michelin star is WELL deserved, and we are luck to have such a superior quality Japanese sushi/omakase restaurant in Zurich (this is better than any other I've tried all over Europe too!). The prices are very fair `(even if it is much more than other types of restaurants) - especially when you understand that the fish is FRESH and flown in each week from all over the world (the fish is wild-caught and always fresh!). This is simply amazing for a restaurant in the middle of Europe. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates true quality sushi and an amazing omakase experience!!!

Owner was rude. And there’s no service what’s so ever. Owner and employee gossiping out loud in the restaurant the entire time we could hear everything. Food was not good quality I had to spit out the wagyu beef because there was so much tendons. How dare they charge $300 CHF per person that’s more than the La Rottiserrie the real water front luxury hotel Michelin restaurant who offered more courses, real exotic and fresh sea food and knowledgeable sweet service. This is a scam. Michelin has to take their star away to avoid misleading advertisement.

I’ve dined at Sushi Shin twice now and I have to say the quality of food, the attentive service including personal attention from the owner and the availability of fine wines (even some rare vintages) all makes this a favorite in Zurich. The price point is reasonable compared to the many fine establishments in Zurich. The ambience is quiet and refined yet casual. This is a great restaurant for a business meal or a more intimate event. I have had the pleasure of having Japanese food in some of the finest restaurants in the world. This place fares very well on its own with the availability of fresh fish and seasonal ingredients. I recommend you have a visit as you won’t be disappointed.

Is it worth? Well, that's a good question. My answer is: a clear no. I chose Shin Restaurant because it received a Michelin star and I love Japanese cuisine. Four of us visited the restaurant in February 2022. First things first: the food is really amazing. Excellent quality, extremely fresh, and beautifully presented. But it wasn't enough for my taste. I was still hungry at the end. And this for CHF 299. What a shame. There were several courses of fish. One course was meat. And at the end there was a small dessert. Unfortunately, the structure/order of the menu was not explained. Suddenly we were told that we had now received the last main course and whether we wanted to order (and pay!) anything extra. We had space at the bar/counter. On the one hand, it was good because we could always watch the chef's fingers with fascination, but on the other hand, it was a bit unfortunate because we couldn't have a good conversation. We were sitting too far apart and all in a row. But the place is ideal for two. Unfortunately, the welcome was a bit lost. We had to hang our coats ourselves. We were seated and just sat there for 15 minutes until someone took care of us. The service was very friendly. Two very young men (one from Malaysia the other from Hong Kong) were very sweet. Very friendly, but neither of them understands anything about service and has no training in this profession (I asked). They clear away as soon as you have put the last bite in your mouth, or they clear away when not everyone has finished the course (and the aisles are always very, very small), they serve from the wrong side, they give the wrong person's wine to taste (why do you have to mention that the person who orders the wine can also taste it?) and and and. As I said, they are very nice, but for this price (and for a Michelin star!) I expect trained people from the field. It's also a shame that the corridors are not explained. Or just one word, for example Miso Soup. By the way, the cheapest white wine on the menu costs CHF 149. You won't find a red wine for less than CHF 250. And the cheapest sake costs CHF 40 per liter. And then the prices are sky-high. Up to several thousand francs per bottle. The restaurant sometimes has incredible fairy tales about the wine. We were quite shocked. Unfortunately, the wine list is not visible on the website either. The restaurant definitely received the Michelin star because of the chef. He, a real Japanese, conjured up many fantastic courses before our eyes. The chef has that reserved, Japanese style that we like. Quiet, shy and professional. The owner Lin from China was also friendly and funny. Unfortunately, we missed typical Japanese character traits. Modesty and Japanese politeness were not apparent to any of us. I don't know, I expected subtle Japanese service... After we left the restaurant, I thought I left my phone there. We are back. The restaurant was locked and the owner was smoking a cigarette behind the bar in the restaurant. That's not exactly a nice thing to do. The four of us clearly cannot recommend the restaurant. I would be very surprised if it received a Michelin star again. The overall package is far from correct. I feel sorry for the chef. He does a great job!

As a Japanese living abroad, the difficulty is to find a genuinely good quality, authentic Japanese restaurant. This restaurant is a gem, a rare find, and I would recommend to anybody who miss Japanese food as it serves even better Japanese food you can have in sushi restaurants in Japan. “Neta” (the sushi fish you use in Japanese) used in this restaurant is best quality and well sourced, which is very important. The service is friendly and attentive, just how you like it and would expect in a Japanese restaurant. I'm a Japanese person living overseas, and the sushi here is especially delicious♪ I've tried many Japanese restaurants overseas, but this is the first time I've been able to eat sushi with such good ingredients. The staff is friendly and it's easy to get in even at first glance.

Absolutely amazing Omakase experience in the heart of Zürich. The chef takes centre-stage behind the counter, where he carefully compacts glistening grains of rice—firm and a notch warmer than room temperature, exactly as it should be—and tops them with shimmering slivers of fish. Each nigiri is finished with a dab of soy, a sprinkling of sea salt or a flame from a blowtorch You’ll also be given an exemplary miso soup, served in a dainty teacup Meanwhile, the charming owner, Lin, is on hand to guide you through the sake and wine lists. When I originally inquired with regards to the reservation, Lin and her team were extremely friendly and accommodating. This was extremely helpful as one of our diners had a seafood/shellfish allergy and we were not expecting an omakase restaurant that serves almost exclusively seafood to be able to accommodate this. We walked in not knowing anything about the place, which on a that night had zero customers. I started to feel unwell and could not endure an omakase meal once we realised that was the only option (there is no a’ la carte menu), so we had to leave. We apologised profusely, not wishing to inconvenience anyone. I will reiterate, we were the only customers that evening. At restaurant’s discretion we were charged in excess of 300 chf for the “disturbance”. The said policy is not stated anywhere, so if did not encounter dishonest staff, at the very least they weren’t most ethical, nor sympathetic.

A découvrir.
