Tramway in Bern

It's a bit outside of Bern, but it's worth going. It has a train stop that leaves you next door, so it's easy to get to. Reservations are essential. Dishes served in large quantities. The cordon bleu is spectacular with plenty of cheese. The schnitzel without cheese is also very good. Friendly and attentive service (they take a while to serve because they are usually full). Very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

The Gordon Bleu was very good but the salad was bad, and the service staff was unfriendly and you could tell that they were very unmotivated.

Hearty, home-style restaurant with moderate prices and large portions. Always busy, so a reservation is an advantage.

Quantity over quality, you can easily eat twice in one portion!

The tramway is legendary in Bern. Actually it is always fully booked, on our last visit we were lucky that we were there at 6 p.m., which meant we were able to get two seats without a reservation. A cordon bleu was ordered with fries and salad. We got a huge piece of meat with enough fries and a large salad. Everything was very fine. And if you're hungry enough, you can eat everything. For the other 90% there is aluminum foil, so the rest can be taken home. Price/performance is top! Gladly again!

One of my favorite restaurant in Bern with great food and very reasonable prices. Reservation is recommended as the place is always full. Winter time it is more packed, but they also have outdoor tables in spring/summer. Schnitzel which comes in a huge portion is not to be missed.

1 1/4 hour waiting time, portions far too large. Cheese slices were in a gratin dish measuring approx. 30x30cm. Even though I love cheese, I had to give up after 1/3 of it. The food is otherwise very good and the service is friendly. Unfortunately, another 1/2 hour waiting time to pay. Billing is done without a cash receipt, so it is questionable how much Eld is actually declared as income.

Service lady friendly. Way too long of a wait!!! Drinks too warm. Salad not recommended. Wienerschnitzel not bad but not great either. Fries too soft. My expectations were too high.

Very tasty cordon bleu and breaded XL slices.

Very good cordon bleu (5/5) with secret cheese blend (probably mild Gruyère or Appenzeller mixed with a fairly neutral semi-hard cheese), meat is lightly seasoned with paprika. Unfortunately, the salad is pretty strong and soaked in a mediocre salad dressing for a long time, and the fries become hard and dry pretty quickly. The beer glass was served still very wet on the inside, which looks like it was rushed and doesn't make a very hygienic impression.

Price performance is great. Always happy to go there to eat a cordon bleu. :) The ambience is ok but you could do more with it.

I called at 9.15 p.m. we would come at 9.45 p.m. we were there at 9.55 p.m. Great service. Restaurant almost empty within 10-15 minutes. Giant schnitzel 2 pieces and French fries were served. I ate 90%, my colleague ate 60%. At 11.15 p.m. the senior manager came with aluminum foil and asked We asked if we wanted to take the rest with us because they would close at 11:30 p.m. Schnitzel fries cost 22.80 and 3 drinks around 10.50 Price Unrivaled Service Super fast and friendly Grade 11 out of 10 my new regular restaurant in Bern

The portion is generous, the crispy fried pork chop is a must-have, especially delicious 😋, the dessert meringue + ice cream & cream are luxuriously decorated, I will definitely come back to eat it!

This place is great! The food is wonderful. The service is quick. We had the meat fondue along with drinks and a coupe danemark. All was delicious and at an affordable price. The fondue was one of the most expensive items, the others were much cheaper. I can't say enough about this restaurant. I would definitely return.

Wow, you have to experience it, the chef (chef) personally answers the phone and conjures up the finest dishes. Incredible portions almost as a gift, I've never seen anything like it before. Service very friendly. I can only recommend. 👍👍👍

We -> 5 women ate in the Tramway for the first time. 3 x veal pancakes - fitness plate, 2x pan. Schw'schnitzel. Super tender and huge portions. A bit of a wait but not a big deal as it was packed. Aluminum foil to take leftovers with you is brought without asking. Service is friendly and humorous. 1 star deducted because it is incredibly loud and normal conversation is not possible. Gladly again, thank you

Ok food, really cheap, really stressed staff. The offer only one vegetarian meal (Käseschnitte, bread with melted cheese) but I could easily order a Rösti without the meat. They even gave me a cheaper price because it was without meat. This was really refreshing as most other restaurants don’t give a discount for ordering without meat. The Rösti was more cheese than Rösti (maybe some people prefer this but I didn’t) and was really big. My colleagues Schnitzel and Cordon Bleu were also really big. The price is really great. I would recommend eating there if you don’t want to spend a lot of money and have enough to eat. Also if you search for a "gutbürgerliche Küche". The downside was the waiting time. We waited a long time and tables that ordered after us got their food first. The only waitress was stressed the whole time and ordering something took a long time. I wouldn’t go in there again. It wasn’t that bad but just not great.

We went to Tramway again for a farewell visit before it closes at its current location. The portions are large as usual, but the staff was visibly overwhelmed. The waiting times were extremely long. I'm not sure we'll continue to visit it at the new location. Apart from the large portions, the taste of the food is not so outstanding that it will be worth traveling further

- Arrived at the restaurant at 6:40 p.m. and got a seat - 6.45 p.m. Table set and card received - 7.30 p.m. we were able to order drinks - 7:50 p.m. we were able to order the food - 8.20 p.m. …still waiting for food, the parking time in the parking lot has now expired. The serving staff is completely overwhelmed, people who arrived after us are already eating. Zero concept. Actually, it doesn't matter whether or how good the food tastes. This means that a repetition is impossible.

Food was OK, huge cutlets, 2 huge schnitzels, fries, salad. Schnitzel pounded nice and thin, fried a little too long. Fries are good. The salad is great, the sauce isn't great. Kotkett fried a little too long, covered with Café de Paris sauce, which should definitely be served separately. When making the breading, you should definitely go over the books, it can be made better and tastier. Give it a try, give it a thumbs up from me. Price is right, performance can be improved. I'll definitely test this again later.

There are huge breaded schnitzels here which taste great. You should be very hungry if you tackle one of these. 😁 There are also other dishes for little money. I always enjoy going to the Tramway.

Portions are large but quality is not good. Fries are too dry and therefore hard. Schnitzel and burgers ok. There is a strong smell of frying oil in the restaurant.

The tramway is a real Bernese original! Huge portions of schnitzel and cordon bleu - honestly, I eat a total of 3 times of the portion. Fine, good quality and extremely fair in price for what is offered. The only thing I don't really think is the fries, they could really be better. There are other meat dishes too, but I've never tried them. Vegetarians should stay outside, as there is only a side salad on the menu for them :D Old-fashioned, charming dining ambience. Very crowded on weekends and before football or hockey matches, so it's better to make a reservation. Staff nice and friendly, but when it's full they're quite short and hectic. I usually go to pick up my order over the phone; it's easy to park my car on the street.

Top restaurant, very large portions but the leftovers are packed up and can be taken home...large selection of beer about 7 different types.. Unfortunately there is a long wait until the food comes and the clothes also smell of frying oil after the visit.. I think it's great See you next time

Excellent food, very nice ambiance and helpful staff! We had the Cordon Bleu Pork with Rosti with Salad and the Vegetarian Cordon Bleu with fries for take away. It was nicely packed in aluminium lined pizza boxes and stayed hot till we reached out hotel. The portions are HUGE and the dishes were very tasty.

I'm giving this three stars because I'm not in favor of just giving it one star. This restaurant is for anyone who wants huge portions for little money. That's not my taste. I wonder where the quality is. I was here on a Friday evening. We had to wait forever to eat, drink and pay. So a little tip saves a lot of time.
