Pleasant restaurant, good cuisine!

We were at the Goldener Sternen as part of the crime thriller dinner. The great 3-course menu was killer good and relegated the actors to supporting roles. The “parsley root soup with lentil pesto” was incredibly tasty and the sweet potato puree was also a culinary delight. The service was very friendly and attentive. Gladly again :)

Very nice place right on the Rhine, pleasant service. Food was dry, carelessly prepared, value for money was not right.

10 people. 1 wrong dish. The real thing was served later, with cold meat. After the complaint, court was not charged. 1 other person received cold meat but didn't complain. My dish was good, but at this price level I expect more. I definitely won't be going back in the near future.

31.7.23.Nice evening in a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the menu was only "for those who are slightly hungry". Main course lukewarm. Waiter very attentive. But the bill didn't stop and it took forever for him to collect. At that point the restaurant was almost empty and the waiter was busy chatting with friends. Not a nice end to the evening!

The restaurant is very nice, worth a visit on the terrace in summer or indoors in winter! The menu is adapted to the season and we really enjoy coming to the Golden Stars. Card payment no problem.

Food: Little and expensive, and no taste. Service: Impersonal and serious. Ambiance: OK, but nothing special. In summary: I'm not coming anymore.

Very fine food. Upscale restaurant. Beautifully located directly on the Rhine. Very attentive staff. Only the portions can be small for some guests (but it was completely enough for me)

After 20 seconds the service man had lost his tip. "Either outside or inside, no back and forth" he snapped at us because we wanted to see the garden. Then when we ordered, he brought the wrong thing and stubbornly and firmly claimed that it was ordered that way and even wanted to force us to eat what we didn't order. Shortly before the escalation, he gave in. We also heard an argument between him and another guest. The food was good, like at home, but not top-class cuisine and far too expensive. When a glass fell over because the glasses were very bad (designer glass), he simply let it fall on us, he wasn't interested. A restaurant that feels like it can live due to its size and location, friendliness is in short supply and the food is average except for the price. It's salted. Apparently, even “after” Corona, some restaurants are still doing too well. 1 star for the cheeky service 1 star for the acceptable food and the location Rosmarie Leu

Food taste good - fr the tartare to fish n steak. Service was surprisingly slow. We waited almost an hour & half for our food. Not sure whether it's because we didn't go for starters n straight to main course. When we clarified about our orders, waiters werent very happy about it. Putting this aside, it's a scenic place during summer whereby we had our table under the trees by the Rhine.

Absolutely disappointing. Had fond memories of the restaurant. Tonight a bitter disappointment followed. 3 people / 400 CHF. Average food, tough meat and poor service - the waitress didn't know who had ordered what, gave the food to the wrong people and brought the wrong dessert. The icing on the cake was that people were smoking at the next table. Never again. The meal took place on June 15th at 6:30 p.m. (by reservation)

The terrace is very nice, under the chestnut trees and parasols with a view of the Rhine. Far from the noise of the city. The earlier friendly service but quite a few errors. Wine served maderé (bottle opened for too long), no small butter offered with the bread like at the next table, no salt/pepper offered during the main courses, we had to ask, when paying we were presented the bill for another table. We found the price a little excessive for a menu that was quite simple but nicely presented. The Entrecote was moderately tender. I've already had better.

The restaurant is actually a very good address. I was there last year and the service was delicious and the food was great, as was the price. However, the quality decreased a lot, not only in terms of service but also in terms of price, which I find very unfortunate. The food was served to us cold, the portions resembled a children's menu with no side dish and the staff was listless. Something definitely has to change for a restaurant of this class.

Good food, fair prices, sometimes mediocre service.

The kitchen probably failed last Saturday. For the starter I ordered the asparagus foam soup, far from foam soup and delicious, I suspect decorated with pumpkin oil, in any case this floated on top of the soup, disappointing, for the main course beef fillet with asparagus and potato gratin. The 4 asparagus, 2x green, 2x white, were simply not cooked enough, hard, almost no sauce and the mini gratin was completely dry, only the fillet was tender meat and tasty. After my complaint, I was brought another asparagus, just as hard, which I can't understand. I wasn't offered a coffee or anything else as compensation. Otherwise the service was nice and the ambience is of course great. It's a shame I wanted to go to a crime night with friends, so we'll let that go now.

Sorry, but that wasn't good. We invited friends over, the food was average, certain dishes (here: fish) were only available to a limited extent, dessert (Coupe Denmark, actually a simple thing) was hardly edible. For us, that's it. (Tip: it's better not to have a restaurant open on a public holiday than to deliver average to poor performance.)

Food was good. Service very friendly. Unfortunately, some of the glasses still had wine splashes and were dusty. Napkin over bread basket stained. This was a real shame for such a place.

It was a late dinner for me, so it was quiet and relaxed. I imagine it is busier earlier in the evening.

Christmas dinner December 24th, 2022: Same fall table decorations as a month ago. No candles or anything like that at Christmas? Loveless! I ordered 3dl of white wine, which was served straight from the bottle! Orange juice came in a large water glass, 1/3 full! The plates were warm, but the food was only lukewarm. Duck liver terrine was gray on the outside! Beef fillet in morel cream sauce = red wine sauce, without cream with mini pieces of morels. Red wine flavor instead of morels! Dessert with seasonal fruits =currants and raspberries? Too long waiting times between courses. Four different ones Waiters! Disappointing for this restaurant. After noticing our dissatisfaction, we received four free espressos! An attentive waiter, great!

The service was very attentive, the food was delicious, we were greeted with a fish soup. Hmmm, followed by duck liver in Madeira sauce with tagliatelle or alternatively vegi tagliatelle with mushrooms. At the next table things were more spectacular with a juicy entrecote. Satisfied faces in unison. There was something sweet with the coffee. A successful evening. The restaurant is located directly on the Rhine. At night you have a beautiful view of the famous Roche towers. The atmosphere invites you to take a short walk after dinner. In summer it is certainly very beautiful under the leaves of the trees.

Quite traditional. Food is not bad. But not overly impressive. Rather expensive. The bread was very delicious.

25 years ago we had a wedding dinner at the Goldener Sternen, now for the silver wedding we had a great meal in the special and unique Fischergalgen at the Golden Sternen. Fish fondue in a unique ambience. You can't get a bigger smile or a smile on your face for someone from Basel. Uniquely beautiful and lovely dessert, as a surprise to the house. The Goldene Sternen is an upscale restaurant steeped in tradition and history. The food here is excellent. But unfortunately here too - as in many so-called better restaurants - the portions are tiny. Food waste is bad, of course - but so are hungry guests, especially when the second helping they ordered was hardly worth mentioning and was about the size of a thimble.

Nice location, especially pleasant in summer when they setup tables under the trees. Makes it the perfect place for an "apero". Good food (they do have a lot of fish options), good wines, and great service. Be sure to make a reservation if you go a Friday evening or Saturday.

I'm sorry, but I ate terrible... a completely burnt wienerschnitzel, reheated French fries, other diners had plates full of oil, probably too much sauce in the salad. The staff very helpful, but poor things overwhelmed by work. I understand when there are a lot of people some small problems can arise. I expected the chef to tell us something, seeing as we had pointed out our discomfort to the waitress.....

Excellently prepared fish and also vegetarian dishes as a lunch menu. Great view of the Rhine. Pleasantly cool as there is usually a light wind blowing. Very friendly staff. It's a regular place of mine. Can highly recommend the restaurant.

Great restaurant on the Rhine river. The view and ambiance is great and prices are reasonable. There is inside and outside seating. Outside seating is great as you have amazing views and get to people watch over some drinks or dinner.

We were invited by friends to the fishing gallows for a wedding present. The ambience is absolutely amazing, cozy, wonderful view of the Rhine and our beautiful city. The food, from the starter to the fantastic fish fondue to the fine dessert, was simply top class. The athletic performance of the waiter, who brought the food down the steep bank of the Rhine with seemingly no effort, was also top class. And always radiated a good mood and was ready to say something. Just a big thank you.

Yesterday I was in the restaurant again after a long time - outside under the trees with a beautiful view of the fireworks. Unfortunately, the meal wasn't a fireworks display like usual. It took three hours from arrival to the main course (yes, I know we had time, but also hungry...). After a very long wait (!), the soup came in beautiful cups, which were not even half full. The main course was good (meat and mashed potatoes), the vegetables were a bit bland. The service was mostly very friendly and attentive, but if the kitchen doesn't keep up, there's nothing they can do. Simply accept fewer reservations or plan better. I'm taking a break now until my next visit.

Great location in a beautiful old part of Basel, make sure to stroll around the area after or before eating. The restaurant serves delicious food, especially the seafood is a joy! And the staff is super attentive, kind and helpful. I'm always enjoying my time in this historical place.

Classic Swiss dishes in a timeless restaurant with traditionally furnished rooms. Our first choice when we come here and walk around. There is a party every day and lot of people. So maybe order before you come. I hope your food will be also good.

Very good restaurant with a not overwhelming selection of different dishes. Despite the record heat, it was pleasant under the trees and directly on the Rhine. Good, friendly service rounds off the experience at the Goldener Sternen. I'd love to come back.

My wife and I went on a date and we chose this restaurant. Pleasant atmosphere and, especially after a hot summer day, it is the best place to end the day. Very friendly and funny service and the food was very tasty! Bravo to everyone. We'll definitely come back.

A very pleasant restaurant almost on the banks of the Rhine. Located in an old building and has a terrace overlooking the river. It is a pleasure to enjoy a wonderful meal and be served by a friendly and polite waiter. Everything was incredible. The tables are decorated with small bouquets of flowers, which creates a special atmosphere. Thanks for a great evening!

Excellent German classic... Nice atmosphere on the Rhine

Instead of the rump steak with sweet potatoes I ordered, I wordlessly got the steak with normal fries and two cherry tomatoes. When I asked, I got a “sorry, it’s not available right now.” When I asked why I wasn't informed beforehand, service said they didn't know either. And now? There was no further accommodation. The menu says in bold that there are supplements. We were never asked for supplements and the plates were cleared. It took a long time to get dessert and coffee even though there wasn't much other customer. For the birthday there was a little fireworks and writing on the dessert, which was nice. The food was good. We expected more from a restaurant that advertises with awards and where you feel "immediately warmly welcomed".

Excellent food, especially the fish. Great location and nice atmosphere, that's why we've been coming here for years. Unfortunately, the service is not always friendly. Today (an older man served us) there were snippy answers and we were rushed to order drinks. When I was undecided, he couldn't/didn't want to give me a recommendation - "there's everything anyway, just choose something". Aha. He seemed to be under a lot of stress, but please don't let the guest feel that. Hopefully a one-time slip!

The food has always been decent, but the service is getting worse. No greeting from the staff. I didn't understand the very poor German-speaking staff on the terrace and unfortunately had to ask again - both (man/woman) rolled their eyes and were visibly annoyed. Then misinformation (man: Yes, there is food in the afternoon), after sitting down (woman: No, there is no food in the afternoon). I then left because I wanted to eat - no goodbye, nothing - just an annoyed look... Service comes from serving and providing. The kitchen performs, the service staff does not serve.
