Everything was great, the preparation of a menu for 11 people, the contacts, the follow-up.... We arrived in the middle of the Basel fair and the service staff were attentive, with touches of humor and a impeccable professionalism! The kitchen is in the shadows but!!!! But so present in the quality of the plate....

Brasserie au Violon (former prison). Beautiful carde with one of the most beautiful Baloise terraces. Very good value for money. One of the rare Swiss restaurants to only serve French wines. Pleasant service like the super friendly and competent manager. For access, provide the “Steinen” car park and continue on foot or with the “tram” I recommend.

A hotel located in a building with history. Strong point, central., however, the small rooms, the very small bathroom, shower...etc. This hotel also does not have a living room. All this reduces its functionality. The breakfast is not exceptional. For a similar or lower price, there are 4-star hotels with better features. I definitely wouldn't go back.

Immerse in one of the nicest and oldest area of the city. The food is really good. The service is very nice, they don't "push". You can enjoy a great food in a relaxed atmosphere. The tartar is a must to try!

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Au Violon restaurant, located in a charming setting in the heart of the city. The main attraction of this establishment is its superb terrace, which offers an exceptional atmosphere for a pleasant evening. My visit was a mix of surprises and satisfactions, and I am delighted to share my experience. The atmosphere on the terrace was simply magnificent. Soft lights, abundant flowers and a view of the old town created a romantic and relaxing atmosphere. The service was attentive and professional from the moment we arrived, which immediately reinforced our positive impression of the restaurant. To start our meal, we opted for the goat cheese salad. Unfortunately, this first experience did not quite meet our expectations. Although the ingredients were fresh and quality, the salad lacked an element of surprise. It was a bit disappointing and could have benefited from a bolder seasoning or an unexpected ingredient to make it more memorable. However, our initial disappointment was quickly forgotten when we received our main course, the veal spider. It was a true gastronomic delight. The meat was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked, and it was accompanied by an exquisite sauce that enhanced the flavors perfectly. The accompanying seasonal vegetables were also a treat for the taste buds. To accompany our meal, we chose a wine recommended by the sommelier, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Au Violon's wine selection is impressive and complements the menu perfectly. For dessert, we shared a crème brûlée which was simply divine. The caramelized crust was perfectly crunchy, while the cream was creamy and flavored with vanilla. Overall, despite a slightly disappointing goat salad at the start of the meal, our experience at the Au Violon restaurant was very pleasant. The exceptional quality of the veal spider and other main dishes, combined with the romantic ambiance of the terrace, make it an ideal choice for a special evening. The attentive service and extensive wine selection complete this memorable dining experience. I highly recommend Au Violon for those looking for an unforgettable gastronomic experience in an enchanting setting.

My favourite restaurant in Basel. Very easy decor, the one of a classic French brasserie. Impressive food and quality price wine list. The wines are only French and the most expensive cost 105 CHF. Not common in Suisse..Very professional and nice service. Enjoy.

Fast and friendly service - can be slow or fast as you need, lovely atmosphere sitting outside for lunch, the Caesar salad and Osso Busco were perfect.

The location is convenient, right in the city center. I just need to carry my suitcase up a few stairs to get to the entrance. The people here are very friendly and helpful and made me feel very welcome. The whole hotel makes me feel elegant and refined. It pays great attention to details. I like it very much. Water and small desserts are provided in the room to welcome us. Hot tea and coffee are provided at the end of the corridor. We can also enjoy and relax in the rest corner. The view outside the window is also Pleasant scenery The only drawback is that there seems to be no air conditioning in the room, only a Dyson electric fan. If you come here on a hot summer day, you will definitely feel uncomfortable. I'm not sure if the ventilation duct on the bedside is an air conditioner, but at least I didn't find it. switch 😆

Average food only unfortunately, even if the menu looks good, nice options, above avergae price, the quality of the dish is not there. The location is great in a historic building. Unfortunately, the food does not rise to the value of the location.

A big thank you for enormous spontaneity, speedy communication, great, friendly service and extremely tasty food! At relatively short notice, the brasserie "au violon" recently offered us a place for 12 people in their beautiful room "petit violon", where we were able to enjoy a great three-course menu. Everything went very quickly and uncomplicated during the planning, even though we arrived at a little short notice with our wishes around Christmas time. From sending possible menus to wine advice from the sommelier and the event itself being looked after by a very polite lady who was always discreetly present in the background, we were finally able to enjoy a great evening with you in a wonderful ambience. Many thanks and greetings to the fine cuisine.

Nice ambience in wood. Not modern. Everyone enjoyed the food. Unfortunately the map was only in French. English... and the wine selection is rather modest. Prices rather high. The place is very busy for a Wednesday, so reservations are recommended.

We had a lunch break here and were very impressed by overall experience. The staff were friendly and observant, the food was amazing, the price was really good. Definitely worth many visits!

Hotel au Violin is a small, charming hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff members (shout out to Emma at the front desk who answered all our questions and gave great recommendations). We had a lovely room that was very clean and well appointed. The location is perfect and walkable to everything in Basel. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant one night (as well as breakfast both mornings) and would highly recommend that as well. Our 2 days in Basel were wonderful!

Very good position (even if you have to climb a little, but there is an elevator for those who don't like to tire a little), generous breakfast, comfortable bed, very cordial and available staff. They are kind enough to offer breakfast due to night work at Barfüsserplatz.

Very bad experience. The restaurant served us kidneys and vegetables for lunch. The kidneys were not washed enough, had a bad taste and were still very raw inside. The vegetables looked, and were probably, frozen food out of the packaging.

Ce n'est pas facile pour trouver l'entrée de ce restaurant pourtant incontournable. L'accueil y est à la fois professionnel et chaleureux , le décor style brasserie chic , et le menu offre des plats classiques mais revisités. Tout y est exquis , avec raffinement : le velouté aux marrons avec oeuf croustillant en entrée est surprenant , les quenelles de brochet particulièrement goûteuses et légères ou le filet de sandre en plat principal sont tous un régal. La liste des vins est très bonne , à des prix variés. Une adresse à laquelle on reviendra certainement.

Das Lokal ist schön und lädt zum Verweilen ein. Der Service war aufmerksam und freundlich. Die Herbstkarte war relativ klein aber schöne Auswahl. Das essen war ok aber nicht überragend. Sehr enttäuschend die lieblosen angerichteten Teller. Fleisch und Pomme Allumettes darunter etwas Gemüsse auf viel zu kleinen Tellern. Da wäre ein sep. Schale mit den Frites angemessen gewesen. Die Tarte Tatin war nichts anderes als ein paar grob geschnittene Apfelstücke und hatte nichts mit dem Original zu tun.Schade.

Nach 5 Jahren haben wir wieder einmal die Brasserie au Violon getestet. Wir waren total begeissert!!!SERVICESehr freundlich, schnell und kompetent.AMBIENTEsuper!ESSENMarinierte Forelle Gravlax Art und FenchelsalatZackenbarsch-Pavé mit würziger Mayonnaise, Mango und Wildreis.

Schönes Gartenrestaurant, mitten in der Stadt. Sehr ruhig. Vorspeise (Kalbsmilken) hervorragend. Kompliment! Hauptspeise (Rindertatar) war eine riesige Enttäuschung. Eine undefinierbare Pampe! Vermutlich alles durch den Cuter gelassen? Farbe war rosarot, die Konsistenz matschig, einzelne Zutatan waren nicht zu erkennen, auch nicht zu erschmecken, von der verlangten Schärfe (pikant) war nichts zu spüren. Und so weiter und so fort. Nachspeise (Profiteroles / Windbeutel) war sehr gut. Gratulation! Service: Eigentlich gut. Tendenziell etwas zu abgehoben. Es stimmte nicht alles. 3 Personen hatten z.B. das Rindertatar bestellt, eine davon mit der scharfen Note. Beim Service wurde nicht danach gefragt. Ganze Abwicklung z.T etwas schleppend. Im Grossen und Ganzen war es o.k.. ich habe aber das Gefühl dass man etwas mehr sein will als man eigentlich kann (sorry).

Ausgezeichnete Speisen. Ich hatte ein Caprese (also Tomaten, Mozzarella etc auch wenn sie es hier anders nennen), das Beer Tatar (sehr gut) und ein Sortiment von Nachspeisen. Alles empfehlenswert. Auch der Rotwein war sehr gut, kann mich aber nicht mehr erinnern welches es dann letztendlich war.

Vor allem ein sehr freundliches Personal, gepflegtes und sauberes Ambiente in historischer Umgebung.Obwohl sehr zentral gelegen sehr ruhig.Fantastisches Restaurant wenn man es sich leisten kann.

Das Restaurant war am Abend gut besucht, leider war das Personal darob komplett überfordert, was dazu führte, dass wir zwischen den Gängen über eine Stunde warten mussten und das Essen nach zweimaligem Nachfragen erst serviert wurde. Das Essen war okay, aber - auch im Schweizer Vergleich - den gehobenen Preis nicht wert. Es fehlte an Frische und Raffinement.

Lieu charmant, on y mange très bien. Plats classiques revisités avec une touche d’originalité, et une très jolie présentation. Service chaleureux - Cindy et Jerémy - deux serviteurs au top, aux petits soins et souriants. Nous avons passés une excellente soirée !

Nous nous réjouissions de manger dans ce lieu.Nous avons eu droit à une table bien placée. Néanmoins les plats sont peu copieux alors que passablement chers, Un loup de mer à 44.00 pour deux petits morceaux de poissons, sans légumes et avec des stick de pommes de terre. Peu de goût un peu recherché. A 22h35 on vous dit qu’il faut régler la note car ils vont fermer. Un vendredi soir??!!Le vin pas extraordinaire.Le ris de veau était trop frit. Dommage le lieu est très beau.
