Bar Basso in Zürich

After they took our last wine order an hour and a half before closing time listed on their website. No one said anything about closing early. After we got our wines our server came by and asked if we needed anything for last call. We said no (we had full glasses of wine). Then he brought us the bill immediately. We paid our bill (a bit confused). Our server assured us “you can drink your glasses of wine. No rush”. Then his colleague -if any restaurant owner or investor wants to know, it was the guy with the star on the back of his neck and the chip on his shoulder - turned the music full blast, and started putting up chairs on the tables - making so much noise my friend, and I couldn’t hear ourselves speak.

Last Saturday we celebrated a birthday with 15 people at the big table with crispy pizza, fresh salad and wine. All pizzas were very tasty. To the surprise of many, the vegetable version with Cima di Rapa was the favorite. The wine was solid and the service was friendly and peaceful. The drinks (even simple long drinks like gin and tonic) took forever. Definitely needs to be improved. We like the place.

Meat was served on the same plate as vegetarian and vegan food, we pointed this out but it was ignored. After the waiter complained about our lack of table manners we complied but he ignored them. In addition, the waiter touched our cutlery, which is not possible.

Customer friendly, there wasnt free tables, but after a little waiting, the waiter managed to find us a table. Great pizzas here.

Nice bar and restaurant in Zurich city center, close to the Hallenbad City indoor swimming pool. Enjoy the pizza and focaccia baked in the wood oven (one of the very few in Zurich and surroundings). Child friendly place, located directly on the Sihl canal, stylish industrial design inside, it has also tables outside. Cappuccino and coffee is good. I recommend it both for an aperitif and to eat. Open at lunch and for dinner.

Came here over a year ago for lunch and food was ok, same this time, bit average and definitely a bit higher price. Looks nice and simple interior design. Service was a straight 0 though. Needed a receipt for myself not the whole table and first got a "we don't do that" x2. But I needed it for tax purpose so insisted. Got snarky comments from both staff and handed the payment device saying the price of my pizza. I confirmed, that's my pizza. "Owww, no tip?? 🙄" But then, all other 5 coworkers got the same snark and exactly same comment, almost comical. Really unnecessary. Would never come back.

I ve been coming to Bar Basso approximately once a year for the past 7 years. While the food is good, the service is consistently so horrid that I cannot help but put this review. Unfriendly, bothered by customer’s presence and only pleasant if you’re a regular. The food is not that good that i’d be willing to let this pass.

Pizza was very good and the beef tartare was sensational. Service staff was very friendly and prompt. Extra requests were very kindly fulfilled. Wine was very good but not cheap either. It would be nice if there were some cheaper wines on offer. We will definitely plan an evening at Barbasso again.

Pizza is always delicious! Although not the cheapest, we keep coming back 😁 The place is also really nice, right by the river Schanzengraben. It can be a bit loud when it's full (and for lunch it always is!)

What is noticeable is that the prices were raised massively during the Corona period. Both with the pizzas and with other dishes. Unfortunately, the map is no longer as original as it once was. We experienced the peak yesterday when we ordered two salads specifically for the main course. The beetroot salad was still the size of a starter salad but was charged at 25.50. The green salad with bacon and egg was also underwhelming and not worth 25.50 either. It's a shame, but we won't be coming back anytime soon.
