Bernerhof in Zürich

In my opinion the best Wienerschnitzel served in the Zurich region (or outside of Austria). Plus a selection of excellent wines and friendly, flexible staff. It wasn't my first time here and I'd love to come back 👍🏻

Don't be fooled by the name, since the cuisine offered is typically Austrian. Once here, the first choice can only be the classic wienerschnitzel, low and crunchy with an "elephant ear" shape. The prices are obviously what you can expect in Zurich, that is, quite high. But it's still worth a visit. Visited on 1/23/24.

Small, sweetly furnished restaurant between Stauffacher and the barracks area. Fondue Chinoise was very fine, service attentive and friendly. Despite asking, we ended up waiting 50 minutes for the Kaiserschmarren dessert. Then they said we could have something else, but by the time we were going to sit they decided it was too late to serve us. Had specifically booked and being promised to sit in the garden, which we werent allowed the next day when we arrived, because it was "too cold". Dont really consider 22° celcius very cold, and some other guests were sitting there drinking beers. But, except that: Amazing food: one of the best schnitzels I've ever had. The beer was nice, the drinks okey. Good service!! Very expensive, like they want it in Switzerland.

Anstatt bestelltes Mineralwasser erhielten wir aber eine Flasche Leitungswasser mit CO2 für 9.- Fr.. Leider zieht sich diese Einstellung / maximales Gewinnziel quer durch alle Bestellungen wieder. Angefangen von Bedinung quer über den Tisch reichent, Paprikapulver und alte Kräuter auf dem Teller als Dekoration, ältere Trinkgläser, leicht ranzige Marillenknödel war der ganze Abend leider sehr fehlgeschlagen und einfach nur überteuert! Das Essen / Restaurant ist schlicht weg zu teuer für die Qualität die man dafür erhält! Die Bedinung ist sehr aufmerksam und freundlich aber der konsequenter Versuch Gäste etwas teurer zu verkaufen als es Wert ist, hinterlässt nur einen schlechten Nachruf und Enttäuschung bei mir. Sehr sehr schade!
