I dined here the other night when I was in Zurich. The food was great, I had a raclette for one, which there was sooooo much but when in Switzerland, you have to try it! I had an aperol spritz for my drink and also had the apricot sorbet with apricot schnapps which was a huge portion size so if you’re going to order that, definitely share with someone. While it was a great atmosphere, I was pushed to the side during the dinner rush and had to wait over 45 mins to pay. Which I was less than amused by.

Today I wanted to have lunch again at the Walliserkanne. The notice promised a delicious Huuswienerschnitzel XXL! But oh horror. Unfortunately, I was informed by the service staff that this was currently not on the menu and would not be available again until spring. Not exactly the best advertisement for the Walliserkanne. Please remove your notice!!

Very tasty cheese fondue, attentive and friendly service

One of the worst Fondue I’ve ever had. Liquid texture, and very bad recommendation about the quantity. We ordered 3 fondues and didn’t finish more than half of each fondue for 6 people. Over price for this quality.

Excellent fondue! Very friendly service. The atmosphere is very Helvetic and very close to Zurich train station. At the end of the evening you “stink” like cheese. Wonderful.

Great place for Fondue and Raclettes- traditional Swiss dishes, open kitchen all day

2023.12 Speaking of Switzerland, it's cheese! So, I came here to eat raclette, expecting to get a traditional Swiss taste since it's an old-fashioned restaurant. The inside of the store is very cute, but the smell of cheese and alcohol hits your nose. (Is the ventilation weak?) The food is simple, but the prices are high. I think it's aimed at tourists, so I don't think I'll buy it again. This is because there are many more delicious breads available these days (the bread I ate was very hard and cold).Although it has what we would call a good old fashioned shop in Japan, it was a shop that was not up to date with the times, so I felt it was a bit lacking. (Is that what you came for?) It's convenient that it's close to Zurich HB, so considering the price, I can't choose this store anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere! Thank you for the meal.

We went there to eat the fondue and as a swiss, I have to say, it was really disappointing! From the beginning on, the melted cheese and the fat were already separated which is a sign of overheating (badly cooked). As well the taste and the consistency of the fondue is not like the typicall swiss cheese fondue. Even worse was the bread we got. They first gave us the old dry bread and hoped, we wouldn't realise. As we asked them for fresh bread, they brought us without hesitation. For me a sign of bad service because many tourists wouldn't probably recognize the difference in quality because they wouldn't know better. The other food I can't judge, but the meat/cheese plate as an appetizer was good!

Second time I go and this time I wanted to go with my wife and son but I was astonished by the lack of preparation, organization and a little bit of kindness that at least, being a "Swiss" restaurant should be characterized. Ok, we know that none of the workers were native Swiss, but, they should train a little more. Yesterday we went early to have good seats because when we arrived it was completely empty and one of the workers said it was all booked, what did I do? I went out and booked online for 10 minutes later, hahahahahaha, that's right, then I looked again at the schedules and saw that there were available for almost all the schedules that followed. Ok, I'm sure you want to know my name, read please above, and yesterday was a very unpleasant day for us. Too bad for you guys I don't plan to step foot in that restaurant again I'm sure that whoever reads this won't either. Let's see if for next year they hire the right people for the place it is supposed to reflect.

It would probably be classified in the “for tourists” category. Service was friendly and quick, atmosphere good. BUT the fondue was really not good. Far too liquid and far too much cherry - you hardly tasted anything besides alcohol. We ordered several fondues in different flavors and there was only a very slight difference. The fondue at the next table was just as liquid, so it wasn't an isolated case. If you want authentic Swiss cuisine, you may want to look for another restaurant. At least when it comes to cheese fondue.

Great place for a traditional Swiss fondue meal. Get the classic cheese and white wine. Bask in the atmosphere of wood beams and hunting implements.

Very bad experience, we were served after almost an hour, the raclette with potatoes was served on a normal plate and was already cold after 5 minutes. The appetizers we ordered were forgotten.

Unfortunately very disappointing. Was the worst fondue I've ever eaten. The cheese was so runny and didn't stick to the bread, so you ate more bread and ended up with cheese left over. We also ordered a truffle fondue for a hefty price of CHF 46 and it had zero truffle taste. There were 5 of us for the one caquelon, so they earned a total of CHF 230 for this liquid cheese. Never again.. It probably goes into the “tourist trap” category.

Dear Sir or Madam, the two of us had fondue with you today (December 8th, 2023). At first we thought the price was too high. But once we had eaten the fondue for two people, we realized that it was the best fondue in the world. So the price is too 100% justified. The salad, the espresso, the grappa and the service were also first class. Dissatisfied from A to Z. 1. Personnel: Overwhelmed and inattentive. I asked if I could have the soup without meat, this was confirmed, so I ordered that too. Unfortunately the soup came with meat. In addition, you were never noticed if you wanted to reorder something and you were never asked if everything was OK. 2. Food: Taste below average. Fondue was cold and lumpy, burner not functional, potatoes not edible (almost raw). The fondue caquelon seemed to come from prehistoric times (the enamel layer had peeled off). The hash brown was more cheese with hash browns than hash browns with cheese. 3. Ambiance: Oh well! When I had to use the toilet, the sink didn't work (which, according to the staff, was quite normal at this time in the evening). Conclusion: As former Swiss regulars, never again! Very disappointing!

Very tasty salad and the cheese fondue was ok. Unfortunately it was the wrong wine for my taste. But that is purely subjective. It introduced a strange taste and visibly separated the consistency of the fondue. But otherwise ok. The potatoes were ok too. Unfortunately, the total mistake was the bread. Soggy and crumbly, it tasted like it was three days old. I don't know what that was supposed to be. I don't even know what kind of bread that should be. The atmosphere was intentionally rustic. It was very cozy due to the limited space, but that didn't bother us. Unfortunately, the result is too expensive for what is offered. In fairness, usual Zurich prices in comparison. Nevertheless, I would personally try somewhere else next time.

Comfortably furnished. Food served nicely. Overpriced but nothing special. I've eaten much better schnitzel and rösti, especially warm. After 5 minutes it was already rather cold. When there's a lot going on, it's stupid that there's only 1 toilet per male/female. The serving nozzles were probably overwhelmed. Things were forgotten or you had to raise your hand 3 or 4 times for someone to come. It was nice that you got a hot chocolate even though it wasn't on the menu :)

Rustic, cozy place, excellent the fondue we ordered as well as the entrecôte right at the point we ordered it, it was delicious, the waitress's attention was very helpful and friendly. I will surely return on the next visit.

The food is always delicious, but the young lady who has been working there for a long time makes the difference: with her really nice, always cheerful and hospitable manner, she spreads a great atmosphere. Thank you very much!

As a tourist looking for a traditional experience, this is not the place I should have went to. My partner and I wanted something traditional and local, but we didn’t receive that. What we received was rude staff who did not care about the customer, food that was horrible, and an empty bank account due to the ridiculous price. If you want a place to ruin your stay in Zurich, this is the place!!

Fondue is one of the most characteristic Swiss foods, and if you are in Zurich and want to try it, then you must visit the traditional restaurant Walliserkanne / Channe Valaisanne. Although the rest of the dishes served here are good, the king is undoubtedly the fondue. It has a rich and intense taste with enough alcohol, and you have unlimited consumption at the price you pay per person. It was definitely an authentic experience.

The food was subpar. Fondue lumpy, potatoes almost raw. The entrecote was as hard as a shoe sole (was returned) and the new piece of meat wasn't much better. The Zurich sliced ​​meat was bland and unloving and the Röschti served with it was also bland. The only highlights were the bread and the friendly, attentive service. Conclusion: first & last time! A pity…

Disappointing experience at the fondue restaurant I recently had the opportunity to enjoy dinner at Welsh Kanne and unfortunately my experience was less than satisfactory. We chose the cheese fondue. But without alcohol. After I politely asked, we were told in no uncertain terms, with an incomprehensible look, that this was definitely not possible. The first thing that struck was the modesty of the ambience. The restaurant was not very spectacular, and the caquelon where the fondue was served definitely seemed to have seen better days. It looked pretty worn and worn (see photo). It's a shame considering what you pay for a cheese fondue for two people. The real problem, however, lay in the food. We chose the cheese fondue expecting to experience a delicious cheese taste. Unfortunately, the meal turned out to be a disappointment. Instead of the expected smooth and rich cheese aroma, a strong, biting alcohol taste dominated. The cheese was barely noticeable and this marred the entire dining experience. This was more like an alcohol fondue than a cheese fondue. In summary, I can only say that the price-performance ratio in this restaurant is by no means satisfactory. I have enjoyed significantly better fondue at a far cheaper price, accompanied by service that was far more attentive and pleasant. Given this experience, I would not recommend the restaurant and hope that future guests will have a more pleasant dining experience.

Super bad. All dishes barely warm! Entrecote was first served almost cold, then warmed according to instructions, but tough “shoe sole” instead of fried à point. Red wine (Primitivo) very poor quality. What a disappointment.

We had a fondue fondue for 2 people that arrived at the table in no time and was very tasty, as well as the apple cake... will come back!!!

I will Never go to this restaurant. Terrible service. Raclett cheese could not melt due to weak fire. It took so long to eat, but, we were kicked out because of cut off time.

We were looking for a fondue experience in Zürich, & had been told this place was good. And yes it was! Our waitress, Eliana, was so helpful, gracious & courteous. The whole experience was awesome.

We arrived in Zurich a day early. Thank goodness because we otherwise would have started out the first real day of the trip dead tired. We walked around Zurich a little bit and found this "authentic" Swiss restaurant, i.e., tourist trap!! But the service was good and my food (veal, mushrooms, and rosti) was terrific. Evan ordered fish and got very bad deep fried fish sticks. Ginny got her first taste of real Swiss fondue!!

I am swiss and I invited my colleagues from Croatia to taste a typical Fondue. I have to say, this was one of the poorest quality of fondue I ever had. Taste funny and not really good. My friends did not know the difference, but as a Swiss, this is really disappointing. no spices on the table and the prices are so over the top. Really not a place to visit my foreign friends.

It was my first time eating Cheese Fondue, and I was near Zurich HB, and this was the closest to the station. It looks like a very old place, we were 4 people, but it was too much for 4, so the server accommodated us for 2 portions to share, we went without appointment around 5pm and it was quiet busy They charged CHF 2 for Tap Water, which was something I haven't noticed in Switzerland The wine they suggested also was pairing very well with the food

We came especially for the Swiss Fondue and it was wonderful. It was all that we had hoped for and we left with tummies full and satisfied.

Wanting to experience a delicious Swiss meal and we got it. The Manager was exceptional. Customer service was exceptional. TWO people working the restaurant and they were very attentive, didn't have to wait for service. The food was delicious and very very filling. The atmosphere was very relaxing. I highly recommend this location for a delicious meal.

When we went into the walliserkanne it seemed that all the seats were occupied, but the service that met us immediately was able to assign us a table... The food came very quickly because the tables next to us were there beforehand and got their food ... I had an XXL veal Gordonbleau in the Valais style, which even though I can eat a lot, I still had to take it home with me and the chilli sauce that I ordered during the meal came in no time and it was amazing!!! 🔥🔥🔥 :) My partner had a truffle fondue that stinked up to me then he loved it ;)) Can recommend it to everyone

Avoid this place. Long wait, over priced. And worse fondue I’ve ever had. And… every table around us seemed unhappy with the wait and food, one couple sent the food back and walked out. Probably a good reason not a single local eats here.

It was a waste of my money. Terrible service, there were only 2 waitress, and both of them were the kitchen staff. We waited one hour and a half for our food, the fondue was cheese, melted with butter. It was UNNECESSARILY EXPENSIVE. I don't recommend.

Unfortunately I have to say that I have never had such a bad fondue. I think tourists who have never had a fondue simply have no comparison. At first it was too liquid, the cheese didn't bind, so we complained and got the same thing back.

Very good food, super friendly service

Food was mediocre and grossly overpriced. Worst of all, I was charged CHF5.4 for a glass of hot water. I told them they should have informed me of the price first, but the lead server became defensive and told me in a very condescending manner that this was their policy. Such utter rubbish. DO NOT EAT HERE. The food and service is not worth burning a hole in your wallet.

Best Fondue in Zūrich friendly Service Staff

Great vegan/vegetarian food. The selection is amazing. Loved it, including the desserts. Hard to believe no animals were killed so I could eat. The best!

I went to try Zurich's famous dish, Zürcher Geschnetzeltes. It had a very gentle taste and was absolutely delicious! The staff was kind and I had a great time. Thank you for your good service!

Fondue is an acquired taste, you might not like it if it is for the first time, but if you want to do it anyway, take the truffle one, or even better, the herb one

The fondue had a very strong flavor and smell, apparently we thought it went so well with wine, the Gordon Blue is sold as XXL when it is S, high price.

Good food, weird service. Was here just after coming in Zurich. Lady put me on the table with dirty napkins. I have requested the daily menu, but she said, they didn’t have it. After I have made an order, and this lady brought me the wrong one. By the way, the side dish contained somebody’s hairs inside. Lady proposed to change, so I had to wait the same time, as the first dish was prepared because of the misunderstanding. While waiting I wanted to communicate with lady a bit to find out, what’s happened and why she was so disorganized. I began with “this is the only Swiss restaurant nearby, as far as I explored”, but instead starting to reflect the lady stopped me saying, she wasn’t from Zurich, so she doesn’t know. Wow, what a perfect customer service for such a huge price. By the way, even when making a lot of mistakes, the lady didn’t proposed me to have a discount or some item for free, she charged me fully and was very disappointed when not getting tips. Is it typical for your restaurant or I am the only “winner”?

I always go to have a fondue. I love the ambiance, decoration typical Swiss and waiter are really nice. My favorite is Trüffelfondue but the Classic is always good too. Not minor detail, the bread is really good for a fondue 🫕!! It is a place to go and come back again. Even you don’t like fondue, the season of cordon bleu started 😋🤗. Furthermore It is well located near to Zurich HB , easy to find.

The Cordon Bleu was good 😋 The plate was nicely prepared. The service was good. Only the fries must have been carved out of some bad potatoes. Not all of them, but some of the fries just tasted bad, and that also happened to the person I was with.

Price/performance is right and very nice service. Listerine on the toilet is absolutely amazing 👍never seen it and I really appreciated that.

We arrived today from Venice and saw this lovely homely restaurant serving traditional Swiss meals. We went in and were not disappointed by the quality and flavour and service. Delicious steak, snitzel and fondue. Good wine and cosy atmosphere. Definitely recommending you try this hidden gem.

Entrecôte with Cafe De Paris is delicious, especially the sauce!!! Service is great as well. Will miss this after the trip!

I wanted to get the lady schnitzel but was told I couldn’t because I am not a lady. The waitress was rude and was constantly chewing her food when serving us. The food was decent but the prices were way too expensive for the quality of food offered. I would not recommend you come here it is a blatant tourist trap.

Do Not come to this place. The service was beyond terrible. I told the waitress that we are ready to order, she said she knows that I am ready but she is not!!! Foods in general were so-so. The fondue in particular has a very strong (bad for most people) smell. Fondue is served only with potato and bread. Value for money is the lowest.

The best fondue in town, take the classical with a nice Heida wine! The service was brilliant - thanks to Valentina! Will be back for sure!
