Brauerei Altes Tramdepot in Bern

Very nice restaurant, unfortunately the wait to eat was very long. Furthermore, it’s a shame because some waiters blow in an unpleasant manner when they see our dog, which was basically accepted. Also, the dish I chose was not great.

My experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. From the moment we walked in, we were met with tables so close together that we could barely move, which completely ruined any chance of privacy or comfort. The place was packed which contributed to a loud and unpleasant atmosphere. Additionally, the smell in the air was simply unpleasant. To make matters worse, they charged us for tap water, a practice that I find totally unacceptable. But the worst of all was the food. Being a restaurant that boasts of serving Swiss food, I expected at least a basic level of quality and authenticity. However, the three dishes we tried lacked any kind of flavor or appeal. None of them stood out in any way and, frankly, left a lot to be desired. In short, there is absolutely nothing I can recommend about this place. The only positive aspect was the setting, but I'm sure there are many other restaurants with equally beautiful views that offer a much more satisfying dining experience. In short, I will not return and I would not recommend it to anyone.

A bit big and noisy, but the tartar steak was very good. Definitely a place to eat :)

The beer was good! I've had better Rösti in Bern, they probably didn't come in plastic packaging...Bratwurst was good!

What a nice place! Very lucky with the beautiful weather, so I could sit outside on the terrace. Beautiful view over the river and the historic center. Ordered a delicious draft beer and an Emmenthaler rosti with bacon. Plus a bowl of applesauce. Very tasty! The toilets are downstairs. A delicious ice cream parlor next door. And the bear park of course. Totally fun!

Not worth the money! Prices like in Zurich, wages like in Bern. Absolute cheekiness. The food was ok at best. Cordonbleu with the cheapest stringy, cartilaginous meat quality, unsalted, lukewarm at most, simply horrible. Chocolate cakes with a liquid center are a real hit. Needed a cafe to wash down the fuzr-dry something. This hut thrives on the location and the ambience. The service makes up for it, but you can really forget the rest. I never, ever drink water for 7.20, or a bottle of beer for 6.50, a capucchino for 6.10 or the screamer, a Prodega chocolate thing bought for 1.30 and sold for 13.50. As long as there are idiots like me, you can do it...

The Bern Brewery, in place of the old tram depot, with bear friends to see, the ideal entrance to the old city. Recommended, fun good food.

A truly atypical place, it feels like one of the great places in Germany to eat 😍 the service is fast enough to tell the world and the food is just excellent for "classic" meals like bison burgers etc. .. just a little noisy, but the setting goes for that ambiance. The bear barrier is 10 meters from the restaurant and a large parking lot (paid) is just a 3-minute walk away. Recommended and coming back without any problem!

Ours was an improvised visit, which is infrequent for travelers with allergies. The staff was really professional and able to offer several gluten-free options from their menu. Very generous portions, excellently cooked, quick service. Very recommended for families.

Great restaurant, it's a bit expensive but the perfect, friendly service and the cool ambience make up for it. We were also warmly welcomed with our dogs and the dogs were given extra water even though the restaurant was completely full.

Ate chicken nuggets with 2 granddaughters. Very good quality and reasonable portions, fries were crispy, chicken were small fillets and not greasy at all. Nonno and Nonna had Rösti, good portions. The butcher's rosti with two sausages is not exactly crispy, but tastes good, the gluten-free and lactose-free version is dry and has no substitutes. Good price-performance ratio. For dessert, excellent and creamy ice cream from the ice cream workshop. Not cheap. Then look at bears that have just come out of hibernation. Excellent. Then 5 minutes up the mountain to the Rosengarten viewing point. Great playground with climbing kites. Beautiful atmospheric garden with water feature and frog. A successful trip.

Honestly a bit disappointed. I had the beef burger, which was pretty average and bland. The fries were fast food style. The mayo was watery. Also the “chocolate cake with liquid core” didn’t have a liquid core and I wasn’t a fan of the ice cream. Nothing terrible, but for the price you’d expect a bit more. I really liked the beer though and service was very nice and patient. Mayonnaise 1/5.

Unfriendly staff, far too loud, food is nourishment, but nothing more.

A small brewery right by the bear’s pit which is a tourist attraction. In warmer periods, there are bears wandering around in there. The burger was nice and tasty but a bit dry, accompanied with fries. The beer variety is small but locally produced which makes it authentic.

It was just great! The terrace was perfect for a small snack. The service was friendly, the food was good and the beer was perfect!

Love this place! They brew their own beer and the bread is super fresh. Atmosphere is inviting inside and out with a view of the bears playing outside near the Aare. Staff are friendly and the places is very clean.

The Canada Weeks: The pork belly was dry and too well done. I wasn't asked about any side dishes and assumed it would be served with vegetables. The country potatoes served were oversalted and full of fat, the opposite of crispy and fresh. My companion had the Tramdepot Burger: bread was too dry, meat was hard and fries were 'ok'. I hope the quality improves again. The price was overpriced for what we got. Service was nice and the light beer was good.

The best beer I've ever drunk! The food is also very good and the service is always friendly and prompt. The restaurant is also ideally located in Bern's old town, right next to the Bear Park.

Arriving by chance and a great experience, we stopped to taste a beer brewed on site as well as the pretzels. A delight, friendly staff who speak several languages. The toilets are also clean

Had the Rosti. Crowded but beautiful views and excellent Swiss food. It was actually the best meal I had in my entire week in Switzerland. Lovely customer service. Beware though….Lines are long and wait for service is long and wait for your meal is long…so don’t come here unless you have plenty of time to spare.

Staff was great, very friendly. Ambiance is suitable for a “tram depot”, a bit loud but that was okay, we were a group and therefore a bit louder. The food, however, was disappointing. I wouldn't eat there again, but I would definitely go for a beer tasting.

The burgers and chips were a catastrophe, they used to do a very good burger but what we got today was comparable to McDonalds.. the sausage was decent, great beer. I will never bring my guests to eat here again, what a shame because it was my favourite spot in town.

The service was nice but the price/performance wasn't right at all. Our food was dry and more like canteen food. Here the focus is on quantity, not quality. For CHF 170.- for 4 without starter and dessert you would expect that at least one dish out of the 4 would taste good... We definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Ah yes and CHF 4.- for tap water, cheeky! Overrated

9 December 2023 I visite Bern at first time and decided to have a lunch in Altes Tramdepot Brauerei Restaurant. I was a solo-tourist. Hostess Kash said me, that there was not a free table, that I needed to wait for 15 minutes. But when came two people before me and than after me he gave them free tables. It were appered suddenly. Hostess offered me the worst place near bar. Waiters didn't come to me for a long time. Than I saw many free tables and take a seat near one of them. A few minutes later waiter wrote my order, than brought a food. Hostess Kash saw it and tell main waiter Chloe about it. Chloe was rude with me, told me that all free tables were booked, but it was not any sign of reservation on tables. After 10 minutes l left this Restaurant. They don't like solo person and don't want give a table to solo person. They are glad to keep a table for two person or for company. It was an awful service.

Perfect restaurant in the old tram station. The food is typical mountain food, so it will give you more than enough energy to visit the entire city. The beer is highly recommended, which they make themselves and you can take with you, in case you have to drive. Good views and better service, attentive and very friendly. The only "but" is that in the dining room there is a lot of noise at peak times as everything is open. The price is the usual one for Switzerland. More than commendable. We will return for sure.

This restaurant is in a very nice part of Bern. I had the pork hock which I absolutely loved. The salad was very good and the dessert was delicious. We had a large group and some said it was their favorite restaurant during our week in Switzerland.

Second time I come to this place and it never disappoints me. I love it and it tastes great. The beer isn't bad either. I recommend it very much.

We were there for dessert in the afternoon. I had ordered a banana split, but only received a 3dl drinking glass filled with the ice cream flavors and 2-3 rings of banana. It was very miggy and seemed cheap for the 12.-, nothing like a “split” banana surrounding the ice cream balls, as is usually done. The service was a bit unfriendly and didn't ask if everything was OK.

At the Tramdepot Bern I not only experienced outstanding burgers, but also a selection of fabulous home-brewed beers. The combination of excellent beer and delicious burgers makes the visit a top-class gastronomic pleasure

For me, one of the best restaurants in Bern. I've been to the Old Tram Depot several times and on different occasions (wedding celebrations, team dinners, drinking beer with colleagues and birthday dinners) and I have to say that it was always a great experience.

Very nice restaurant with the best beer in the city of Bern😃👍🏽 Unfortunately the atmosphere is very loud and there are clocks (large and small) hanging everywhere. Service leaves a lot to be desired and always runs away when you order or you wait a long time for payment. The food is very tasty and the portions are decent. Terrace in summer is a highlight of Bern with a wonderful view of the old town of Bern.

Very good beers! And I say that as a Belgian! We tried the tasting of 5 beers, accompanied by a cheese-filled pretzel. Highly recommended!

I can say that it is Bern's most popular place for beer. Located at the beginning of the bridge in the bear area. Brewing boilers are located right below the restaurant. You have a chance to see it. Pork, beef and venison are abundant on the menu. Of course, seafood too. You may not be able to find a reservation. You are waiting at the door. The attendant takes you to the table where you will sit. I liked the atmosphere, decor and service. It also has a large garden. We ordered Cordon Bleu and beef with sauce. It was quite delicious

Beer the best' the food in general may be good; but the Rösti is inedible...the worst Rösti ever

The food was excellent and our server very kind.

The staff is very rude.. The reception is the same. We had 2 daily menus For a total of fr.69.90 Inedible food. Small portions! Weird taste! Half-cooked side dish!! we are disgusted!!!! Despite complaint with the manager, no commercial gesture... This is the first time and the last time I come!!!!!!! To avoid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awful food. Worst Flammkuchen ever. They added some yellow powder that tasted like curry. Who does that to a Flammkuchen called „der Klassische“ 🤦🏻‍♂️ Spätzlipfanne was dry. Beer is the only good thing

Had dinner with a friend so far everything was good. When paying with the EC card, we did half the amount and rounded up to the full amount. No, you enter the current amount! You can't buy anything for 20 centimes. I usually tip well after paying! I had to let her know, no, not like that. Too bad for the evening.

The most delicious place I ate during my trip to Switzerland! The rösti was delicious and the pasta with tomatoes and mushrooms was also delicious. A place I wanted to go twice because of the pasta. The beer platter isn’t bad either!

Ate here twice during a weeks visit. Had the farmers roshti and the pork knuckle (schweinehaxe). Both dishes were excellent. Drank the marzen beer and the east block pilsner, also both exceptional. Atmosphere is beer garden, with views overlooking the old town. Staff was great, no problem speaking english and service was prompt and friendly. I would make this a must for anybody visiting.

Great place to eat in Bern with a very nice view of the city. A very large choice of local and typical dishes. The staff is very friendly. Consider booking for the evening just in case. Many vegetarian options available

Horrible service and rude staff. We waited 45 minutes and no one would serve us, even after we asked them. Waiter was really rude so we left without getting anything.

For me, THE attraction of Bern - great terraces and scenery, wonderful products, beautiful restaurant, friendly and professional staff. An excellent offer. Our own beers (tip: festival beer) with a variety and seasonal offerings. By the way, the ice cream is very runny and creamy, but the varieties are extremely appealing (Toblerone white, saffron white, vanilla black) and pistachio in particular tastes excellent. Important: the tasting board is available in small and large 👍

I went during the day and there were a lot of people sitting outside. I had a beer sampler and it was delicious. The staff was friendly. I ordered rösti + sausage and a filled pretzel and it was delicious.

Good beer, good food, nice staff. Thank you and I hope to visit again! At the brewery, you can sample 5 different types of drinks. You can also choose between 5 x 1 dl and 5 x 2 dl. It's nice because you can add your favorite items to the order. All of them were easy to drink, had a fruity, smoky feel, and were fun and delicious. I had heard that Swiss wine is limited in quantity and consumed domestically, so you can't drink it overseas, so I ordered a glass of white wine. It was refreshing and easy to drink. For mains, we chose Metzger Rosti and Pouletbrust Grill. They are all delicious. The staff are also very kind and friendly and will make you feel at ease. I would like to visit again, thank you very much.

Very good food, with a beautiful view of the city of Bern and the bear park. Service top, very friendly and quick with the food. Everything was very good, warm. Beer and other drinks very good. Impressive atmosphere at the bar. There is also a course for making your own beer, perfect for a bachelor party. Very tasty homemade ICE cream, in my opinion the best in Bern. We'll be back, thanks for everything 🙃

Were there today with 5 people. We didn't see each other for a long time, we just wanted to have a drink. We were seated without being asked if we wanted to eat or drink. After an hour we were asked to leave because the table was only intended for eating. 1. If they had said right from the start that only food was served here, that wouldn't have been a problem 2. The catering industry is no longer particularly good at it go badly if you can do without paying guests. We would have consumed more, as I said, it would have been a long evening as we hadn't seen each other for a long time and there was a lot to talk about. 3. I found the way it was done pretty outrageous, they could have simply moved us around, especially since the place was assigned to us by the staff. It's a shame, I liked being there before. For this reason, I will never set foot in the Altes Tramdepot in Bern again and will certainly not recommend the store to those around me.

Superb selection of beers & pale ale, good atmosphere, friendly staff

Excellent location and a beautiful restaurant/bar. Their sell their own brewed beer, which you should definitely try! The vegan tartar was good from what ive heard, but for myself, i think i made the wrong choice. The fries where ok, but the saucage(cold) salade is definitely not my thing. But this is ofcourse all personal. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This place has become a classic in Bern. A terrace with a very good view of the profile of the old town and the river. Home-produced beer and dishes from the area. We recommend the house roast and the sauerkraut with sausage. We went for the second time two years later and confirm the good opinion. Highly recommended.

A little drink on the terrace near the bear pit, with a local beer and a pretzels (a real one). It was a little relaxing break in the middle of our visits!

We had lunch one afternoon on the outdoor terrace with a beautiful view of the heights of old Bern. Very good menu with beers and specialties (the rostis were excellent!).
