Chäsalp in Zürich

The place to go for an excellent fondue. We tried several flavors and they were all great. The service was out of the ordinary. It deserves a 6 ⭐️!

A variety of fondues is advertised, but it is always the same boring mixture with different ingredients. Sometimes chilli, sometimes diced bacon, etc. If you love strong cheese mixtures, it's better not to go there.

Booked this reservation a couple months prior to our visit to Zurich and was hoping it would be a highlight. Nice location, nice food presentation but the service was awful. So unfortunate!! Was never offered dessert and coffee and after nearly three hours we had to request our check. They also charge fondue by person which was $65 for a bowl of cheese that we only were able to eat a quarter of. Pure disappointment.

Fantastic restaurant with a brilliant atmosphere. I recommend the Fondue Fun for 50.- CHF per person, where portions of many different fondues are served at your discretion over and over again. We ended a bachelor's party with good fondue, the service we were offered was absolutely perfect!

Very tasty fondue with green pepper and mustard. The atmosphere is cozy and calm, in keeping with the theme of the restaurant. A short urban trip to the Alps that is always worth it.

Great fondue, wonderful location

Years later we went to Chäsalp to eat cheese fondue at the weekend, but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The price-performance ratio is so inappropriate... 33-39 CHF is excessive for what you get, then 9 CHF for cornichons??? I somehow felt that the visit was like a tourist rip-off restaurant that offers fast food. As soon as we ordered, the fondue was already there. Some people might see that as a positive thing, but it's a bit strange with kösefondue. The truffle fondue is refined with truffle butter as stated on the menu, which doesn't seem to be of very high quality and the morel fondue had (dried) morels in it but the taste was anything but morels. The employees were nice, but you could hardly understand them because of the background noise. Unfortunately we won't be coming anymore.

UPDATE: Management reached out and we exchanged some kind emails. It appears that there was no malicious intent, but the communication from the server still accidentally misled my mom into typing excessively and she was left to feel pressured and guilted. The main takeaway for the server should be never ask if someone is going to tip. That is seen as an aggressive move and made my mom nervous about trying to do the right thing. When she asked for clarification on the amount, the server should’ve been more clear. I do appreciate the quick and kind response from management. Thank you! This restaurant tricked my mom into tipping. Her Swiss hosts had explained there is no tipping like in America. When the waiter brought the bill, he pressured my mom into tipping an extra $50.00. Great foundue experience in a charming place overlooking Zurich

Very expensive, not very flexible tenants and average fondue. If you book an event with a group of people, you will be pressed to take all the options in order to pay the max.

Lovely experience. The venue is so cute and for me as a tourist, offered an authentic side to Zürich! Lots of choice on the menu and the fondue was 🙌🏽

Individual fondues weren't really my thing, but the concept is great. The restaurant is cozy, the service is attentive and friendly.

Cool atmosphere and care when eating cheese fondue.

Great fondue experience!! We organized a small team dinner for work here. Other than accessibility as this restaurant is hard to reach by public transportation, our experience was great. It’s located on top of a hill and has lovely views of west of Zurich. Servers spoke good enough English, food was delicious with many varieties and options for Fondue and Raclette, even some non dairy options. Plenty of parking outside this restaurant if you are driving. Highly recommended!

A beautiful place, food to kneel down on, friendly, courteous reception and service staff who not only serve but make the occasion unforgettable...I have rarely experienced anything like this in one place...for that I would like to thank you very much, 10 stars and look forward to it the next visit!

Very nice, fine fondue, and a great view outside

The location on the mountain and the rustic restaurant are attractive, but the fondue is average and in December it is very crowded and cramped and you have to leave the booked slot exactly at the end.

We had an amazing dinner for my sister’s birthday. While the tables are a bit small and everyone was close together, the atmosphere in the restaurant was very happy and lively. The whole restaurant sang ‘happy birthday’ to my sister which was really fun. Our waiter, Andras, was full of energy and positivity. Everyone was in a good mood because of him. What a fun experience! The bunny rabbits were so cute… we got to go outside to see them but they didn’t want to be pet. Thanks for a great evening!

Great service at the time of the reservation, the guy who handled the reservation assured me that we can have all fondues alcohol free and indeed we found this to be true. The staff is mixed between friendly and snobs, which is not the norm for Switzerland as usually restaurants have great customer service. But overall the waiters were great, just the manager I think (guy wearing black) should work on better welcoming all kind if guests, we were just pointed to our seats in a manner that we bothered him while other tables received a much better follow up discussion with him after bein seated. I tried to ask him for the person who took the reservation to thank him for his friendliness, the manager couldn't be bothered to even show interest. The food was great though, atmosphere except for the small bother was great as well. I would repeat the visit with lesser friendly expectation to not feel disappointed next time.

Great ambiance and delicious cheese fondue. With the “fondue plausch” you can try many flavours unlimited. We went early at 17:30 to beat the crowds which arrive around 19h. The service was very friendly and fast. The rabbits behind the window are adorable and cute to watch. Tip: you can watch them outside as well. Walk around the restaurant to the back.

Manuel served us, he was very friendly and accommodating. The fondue was delicious. The ambience is nice.

Very nice location woth view of the Zurich City. Due to Chrostmas it was full which probably impacted the service. Service was very slow even for serving the drinks. Would have liked bit more advice on the food and portion size. We ended up ordering too much. Fondue was good but other dishes were okay. Desserts were nice and presentation was beautiful. Would not recommend this place for non-fondue lovers as other choices are limited.

Have you changed the quality of the cheese? The fondue was bland, more like a cheese soup. Not thrilled, probably not anymore!

We were there with the team, some people were sick. Despite objections from us, the staff brought more fondue than needed, which ultimately led to extreme food waste. It's just such a shame. The staff was also rather unfriendly.

We were allowed to wait in the poorly heated awning until we could occupy our reserved table. The aperitif was extensive and we were recommended a Heida white wine. Unfortunately the bottle of Heidi is with CHF. 89.00 massively overpriced. It borders on rip-off. A note about the price or an alternative recommendation would have been appropriate. The restaurant was fully booked and there was not enough space. Yes, it was even tight. The cold platter as a starter for three people each was beautifully presented. But unfortunately sparsely documented. The fondue, the Chäsalp with house mix was a disappointment. The cheese fondue tasted dry and floury, not very runny and bland in taste. The service was fine. All in all, the Chäsalp was a disappointment and I will never go there again for fondue.

A great evening in a great restaurant. Great food in an incredibly cozy atmosphere. And Franzi was a blast. She always knew what we wanted and gave us great tips. That's what you want! We can only recommend the Chäsalp!

Fondue Ok, but I don't see the added value of 10.- for the fondue fun. I've had better fondue for my taste, but it was okay. The service staff was nice, but sometimes a little sloppy. Ambiance was okay, especially the rabbits and the rustic are nice. The overall experience wasn't that great for me, especially because there was a dispute at the end about the bill. Two of us couldn't come due to illness and two other places were otherwise not possible to fill at short notice... Nevertheless, we were charged the amount for the 4 and we were accommodated so far that we were able to take a pack of cheese with us... 200.- , the most expensive package of cheese of my life. Just left a very negative impression with management. A pity

We were there with the team. Since we aren't big eaters, we only wanted to eat one portion of fondue. Unfortunately, this wasn't possible and we had to order at discretion, which is far too expensive. Unfortunately, there were still team members who were sick, but we had to pay for them too. Conclusion: Absolutely exorbitant prices, unfriendly, arrogant boss! No thanks, never again!!!

I personally didn't like the fondue, it was a bit tasteless. Our fondue choice: Moitier moitier/mushroom/chilli/truffle ->that was the best. Long wait, even though we were there at 6:20 p.m. The raclette at other tables started to smoke, which affected the air in the whole room (the smell of cheese is already strong, mixed with that smoke it was a bit too much). In any case, you should choose clothing that can be easily washed afterwards ;-)

The best fondue experience in all of Zurich! Good selection, courteous service, great ambience.

Unfortunately, our experiences have been miserable. We ordered a Trio Raclette Chat. Apparently eat as much raclette as you can. Called at 3:30 p.m. and arrived at 4:00 p.m. After the first plate of cheese, we received another plate of cheese that was only half full. Maybe that's enough for many people. No one was seen for 15 minutes. When we were finally able to order another one, we were told we had to leave in 20 minutes. We ate what we could during that time and then asked for the bill. It was 5:17 p.m. Surprise, they wanted to charge us 4 raclette chats for 3 people. When we returned the bill and were waiting for the new one, the table next to us, who started the raclette chat at the same time, ordered another plate of cheese. When we asked the staff about it, we were offered the opportunity to stay seated until 6:20 p.m. After all of this, we lost our joy. So for the price, 1 hour 20 minutes to eat, I can only say so much, I got a Pepito later. The staff was friendly and can't help it that much. They only do what they are told. So from an organizational point of view it's just a catastrophe. That's why 1 star for service. That was the first and last time in the Chäsalp, what a shame. The food was actually good, but stress spoils it, hence 1 star. Simply the worst experience in years. Not recommended.

Small restaurant saw rabbits and guinea pigs. Brunch was very balanced with a good selection of dishes. Service was friendly and well organized. We can only recommend the beautiful location.

Super cozy location that is also easy to reach by public transport (bus). The fondue festival is recommended. The staff is in a very good mood and always has the guests in mind.

We reserved a table right next to the window to the Häslis. When we arrived, however, we were assigned another table, which we insisted on having “our” table and in the end we reluctantly received it. Since then we noticed a certain tension among the staff. Four of us came to eat fondue, one of which was a 7 year old girl who would eat about 4-5 bites of it, so we ordered a fondue for 3 people. We ate 3 of 16 fondues and were then full. The fondue was okay, but we make better fondue at home with a great mixture from a cheese dairy or Milchhüsli. In the end we had to pay (among other things) 4 × 48 for the fondue, a whopping CHF 192. When we commented that we had only ordered for 3 people, the staff told us that we were 4 people, so we had to pay for 4. I still find it bold. When we got our way with the objection that our little daughter had only eaten 5 pieces of bread, so we had ordered for 3 people and we didn't want to pay 48 for 5 bites of bread with a bit of cheese on them, they came with us “opposed” to a reduction of 50%. When paying, we wanted to give a tip out of politeness, to which the staff replied snidely, "You don't have to do that." Without us! Never again. An arrogant gang! Quite a few immigrants see Switzerland as a good money machine and the Swiss as rich, stupid geese who can be gutted, you see that again and again. Please go back to where you came from!

It is an extraordinary place just outside of Zurich. The fondue is exceptional, with many varieties. During the summer, they have fantastic pasta dishes as well. The atmosphere is very cozy, and it reminds you of a chalet.

A very "homey" restaurant. There is a large selection of fondues. For those who don't eat cheese, there is a menu from the restaurant opposite. I visit Käsalp regularly and never have any negative experiences.

A lovely treat. Four different types of cheese fondue in a most convivial setting. My wonderful nephew researched and found this unmissable restaurant and led the way via train and bus for our party of 4 to get from central Zurich to this stunning location and return. Highly recommend the fondue - truly special. We sat outside and loved it.

Best fondue and raclette in town. Perched high on a hill, it's as authentic as you can get and great for large groups and children too (they have little farm animals). Just book early to get in during high season! Our server Janette was incredible.

Unfortunately, the service and the price-performance ratio have decreased significantly. Raclette and fondue are too expensive for what it is. The potatoes for the raclette were scarce and some were not cooked. Service was rather lousy. Didn't find the reservation after half the table was there, so the other half had to call us. The conversation was very friendly, but we had to ask twice so that something could be placed under the very wobbly tables. The answer was: yes, no problem at all, it will come straight away. When it came to paying, the service became very intrusive; suddenly we were being harassed by two service employees every minute to pay. It's a shame, because we went there because of good memories - which won't be the case any time soon.

This is a must stop in Zurich. The all you can eat feast is the way to go. We had the traditional switzerland cheese, house cheese and truffle cheeses. All are fantastic and include ham , bread, pickles and apples. We split a house salad as well and it was a feast. Well worth the trip and views overlooking the city. They also have bunnies you can watch while eating.

Very comfortable both outside and inside. The lunch menus are very good in terms of value for money. The food is good, but the quality varies sometimes. Service sometimes seems a bit overwhelmed. The vegetarian menu could be a little more imaginative. Basically recommended with still room for improvement.

Stumbled across this place while visiting Zürich. Wonderful countryside setting in what I guess is an old farmhouse and barn. Excellent English speaking service and the food was fantastic. We loved the fondue! We sat outside and it was great for kids, with a play area with a slide, swings and a field to run around in. Also the rabbits were another surprise! Just what we wanted. Highly recommended.

We can only recommend the Chäsalp. The staff was very friendly and helpful. For dinner we had a raclette and a fondue, both of which were very tasty and beautifully and classically prepared. Anyone who wants to stop here on a hike in the region around Zurich will definitely not be disappointed.

Worst fondue in town! Sadly, today we had an overpriced sour mixture with so much corn starch that I don't think it qualifies for the name fondue. It is actually the worse fondue we've ever had. It didn't even taste of cheese! How disappointing because this used to be a lovely place for good fondue, particularly in summer. The price was brutal: 250 CHF for 3 salads, 4 fondues, a bottle of wine and a bottle of mineral water. Steep, even for Zurich.

The worst fondue in town. This restaurant was a staple of ours before the renovation but we are never coming back. The service was the best it could be considering the massive understaffing but they still managed to mess up our salad order as well as our neighbor's main course order (twice). Now, this wouldn't bother me so much if it weren't for the incredibly poor quality of the fondue. I would have eaten a better fondue had I gone to the "swiss cuisine" stand at the food court in an outlet mall upon a highway. We were served what tasted like sour custard with pickled garlic. If you are going to spend over 250 chf in Zurich, I recommend going anywhere else. The view is good though. Edit: Also 38.- for Älplermacrone????!??

Great place for a rustic and friendly meal! The quality and variety of the dishes are extraordinary... and the prosecco flows freely.

Simply love the place! Outside tables are great for lazy summer dining experience. Food and service fantastic! Fondue in the summer was spot on and there was plenty of tasty cheese variety. Different types of wine to satisfy all palates with the right temperature.

Amazing food here. Fondue was awesome

It was a very spontaneous visit for lunch. We were warmly welcomed and the service was attentive and friendly. There is not only cheese on the Chäsalp, the menu offers some seasonal dishes. The Chäsalp is well equipped for children. There is a children's menu to color in, a swing, a slide and from inside you can have a good look into the rabbit and guinea pig enclosures. It also has children's chairs and a huge lawn to run around in. We will definitely come back with the whole family.

Outdoor dining with grass and sunset. Pretty good. There are only 2 staffs. They are quite busy running around and requests are delayed.

The prices are rather high for the quality of the food... The waiter took so long with the coffee that we thought he had forgotten it. The cordon bleu was not completely cooked through and had absolutely no spices.

SO SPECIAL! We visited Switzerland from NYC and our last stop was in Zurich. I wanted to find a special spot for our lats dinner and Chäsalp is the perfect place! It's about 25 mins from the city center via bus (all perfectly timed and easy to use). The restaurant is located in the outhouse of an old barn and it's so incredibly charming. The inside is beautifully decorated and they even have windows next to the rabbit pen outside so you can bunny watch while you enjoy your meal! We got 2 pots of fondue (one Chäsalp and one with bacon and plum liqueur). They were both SO tasty and came with ample bread and potatoes (we added on the fresh seasonal fruit, which was also tasty with the cheeses)! We had the best time here, especially roaming the grounds after dinner. What a charming location, perfect for a special night out!
