Chez Calvin in Genève

To begin with, the music is much too loud during a meal and the sound is poor quality, the musical choice totally inappropriate (for our taste.. French variety from the 80's...Jeanne Mas, Niagara etc. help) we were able to talk about it on the way out after the meal because during the meal we couldn't hear each other chat, we had to turn on the lights on our phones to read the menu (!)… the service ok but nothing more, atmosphere for tanned people in afterwok, ah and culinary? It's OK but nothing crazy either for the price (an arm). And finally the toilets were dirty.

The restaurant is superb! Subdued, intimate atmosphere, the food is excellent and Antoine’s cocktails are the best in the city of Geneva! After a certain hour, the atmosphere makes you want to drag out the evening until the early morning. An address that I highly recommend!!! The welcome, the perfect service and the friendliness of Morgan and John (from Crudo7) are the ultimate reason to come and try this address!

The food is very well cooked and a lot of varieties are available. I would expect a little bit more spices as you could find in Israel, but probably the tastes are adapted for the Swiss public. An example, the melanzana was delicious, but the roasted chicken, even if it was delicious, was missing the Israeli touch. I will gladly retour and strongly recommend it.

Disastrous service, we found packaging in the salad and we learned during the meal that 2 of our orders were not available and not at the same time. One of these dishes was mashed potatoes...how can a chef not be able to make such a simple dish. Furthermore, it took more than 2 hours to be served (with 2 less dishes) and only simple dishes. Given the scale of the problems, management still offered us a dessert tasting. Thank you but the experience leaves a bitter taste.

Overall, the experience was not as satisfactory as expected. Chez Calvin has been a personal favorite spot in Geneva, still impressing with its ambiance, setting, and food. However, the service could have been more professional, as we felt pressured to order more than we intended when we requested a single glass of wine but were served two. Additionally, considering the 11CHF charge for water, it would have been preferable if a premium brand like VOSS or NEUE was offered and opened at the table. Moreover, the prices seem to have increased significantly, and while the quality of the food remains delightful, the current pricing might be considered too steep.

Absolutely horrible experience. Not only was the service rude & slow but the food was mediocre at best while priced very high (even for Geneva standards). Upon arrival, we were not seated and it took them 30 min to bring a wine list. The fact that we were a big group and not all of us arrived at the same time apparently caused an inexplicable tantrum of the manager, who for some reason thought that our friends who were being late wouldn’t eat and suggested that we go outside if it’s only for drinks (???). As I have mentioned earlier, food is very mediocre (and this is me being nice) Meat tartare (36 chf) comes with no toasts or fries and when asked if we could have some bread, they, yet again, very rudely replied that they do not have any bread and there is only focaccia, which costs 10 chf. Moreover, it took them 2 hours (!!!) to serve the entrecôte (69 chf) and one of the dishes never arrived and when confronted about it, they just said that they ran out of this dish so they can’t make it anymore. Isn’t this a responsibility of the restaurant to let the customers know about this and not make them wait 2 hours for a dish they don’t even have? Overall, if I could give negative stars, I would. But then again what could we expect from a place with no bread?

This evening I was at Calvin's for dinner with a friend. Everything goes well, we sit down and order something to eat, I take the sweetbreads and my friend some ravioli.. the dishes were super oily and full of cream.. at the end I make a comment to the lady who took us charged the bill...: she sees clearly and tells me that “maybe it was too creamy and there was the new list”... incredible... I pay for everything without saying anything.. results in aches and stomach cramps upon my return.. draw your conclusions!

Ils te mettent sur une table de jardon minuscule pour manger à 4 alors que tu as réservé et du dois finalement quémander pour qu’ils puissent te déplacer sur une vraie table. Au delà du service plus que moyen, la nourriture n’était également pas à la hauteur. Cannellonis aux artichauts et truffes écœurants et honnêtement mauvais, boulettes de viande confits ou la viande a énormément de morceaux de gras durs.. tout cela pour un prix bien trop cher au vu de la qualité de la nourriture et du service. Je ne reviendrai pas.

Très bel endroit dans lequel la décoration change au fil des saisons. Lors de notre visite le thème était l'Espagne. Belle variété de tapas, même si hélas ce jour là il n'y avait pas de tortilla... mention pour le poulpe à la plancha. Belle carte des vins et cocktails. Le service y est attentionné et cordial. Très bonne ambiance en général. Je vous recommande cet établissement.

Nous avions un avis plutot mitigé suite a notre derniere visite qui remonte a l ouverture du restaurant. Le decor est tres joli tout comme le bar central. Par contre la carte de tapas laisse a desirer tant par son choix que sa quantite. Ce n est plus un restaurant mais un bar ou l on sert des tapas en plus. Aucun interet si vous comptez diner ou manger une viande ou un poisson. Dommage.

Prix a l’image de Genève mais cadre super et bonne ma ambience. Il y a une bon quart de ce qu’on commandé qui n’a pas été servie mais c’est pas grave. On a vraiment bien aimé.

I'm not sure if the produce are local or hand made especially the aubergine tart I had which was very disappointing as it was a few pieces of aubergine topped with a salt tapernade accompanied by a green salad. Even the foobie tart recipes are more appealing than this. I could of done a much better tart. I probably will not go back as it is pricy for what it's worth...if you enjoy cooking stay at home
