DIO/MIO Pizza Napoletana in Basel

I like the pizzas, thin base, crispy edges and for once non-08/15 ingredients. Price wise it's on the higher end but okay. It may be that the base is a bit thin but I like it that way. When I drive up the Leimental I don't see any difference between the pizzerias, but here I do. The place is usually full, which also speaks for the quality.

The product is very good 🍕 Still, I don't understand their policy: meat isn't sent home on some pizzas and neither is mozzarella. I think it's a bit like cheating, either yes or no, but not by half measures. Or at least they should make up for it with another product...

Staff very friendly, pizza was okay, the side dish on it was very fresh and tasty, the dough promised more, unfortunately it was far too soft and not crispy as I know it with pizza, my expectations regarding the prices were different

We gave this restaurant a second chance, because interesting pizzas are also shown on social media. The first time wasn't disappointing, but not great. We tried it again certain of expectations. The second time, we admittedly found the pizza with meatballs inedible. A true American. This time all raw and all cold, all left on the stomach. Sin. The sausage and broccoli are good, in fact in general the ingredients are of excellent quality (apart from the meatballs).

I was served the worst and most expensive pizza of my life there. The pizza was more of a synthetic truffle oil soup. There was so much fat in it that the oil stood up and the dough base was completely soggy. The crowning glory was the service. The waitress actually asked if the food was good, but when I explained that it wasn't, she didn't make a sound. It was cleared away and left.

Was there in summer '23 with my family and if the kids think they had the best pizza in the world (understatement), it was definitely me who enjoyed "ROASTBEEF CON TARTUFO"... to die for (see pic)! Service was friendly but inattentive, maybe caused by the fact that we were seated in the backyard, which by the way was directly in a dead end road (noisy cars turning around - do not get seated there). Next time I rather chose a seat in the restaurant.

The pizza was good, the variety of tomatoes that was chosen for my margherita was very sweet. The house offered us a broccoli soup and it was a welcome gift, Italian staff!

Personally, I didn't find the starter anything special, but the Neapolitan pizza really impressed me. The pizzas are very tasty and the service has always been friendly. Sometimes it takes a while, but that's understandable since the pizzeria was very full. I also found the Nutella pizza very tasty.

Pizza was good. Service, especially from the “boss”, was miserable. Had a fly in the pizza. You (the boss) didn't see the problem, didn't apologize or offer anything. Was more interested in confrontation than finding a solution. It's a shame and absolutely unprofessional.

Friendly service and very good pizza.

The service was extremely poor and unfriendly, especially the "chef" de service. I have rarely experienced something like this. I definitely won't go here again. There are plenty of other restaurants that deliver good pizzas and the service is also good.

I waited between 7-8 minutes at reception and no one told us that we should wait a short time or whether a table was free or not. When I asked at the bar, an employee cheekily said that I should just wait and he would come. I have also chosen this restaurant several times for lunch on business, but never again from now on!

The food and service were great! The location was really nice, but the music was so loud that it wasn't possible for two people to have a conversation at the table. Apart from that, really a highly recommended restaurant! :)

Edit April 1, 2023: Absolutely bad - cheeky service, pizza couldn't be worse in terms of quality and taste. Recently you have to explicitly mention that you want tomato sauce on the pizza, otherwise you won't get any :-) The staff has no service experience at all, they don't care if you don't like the food and no solution is offered. Over CHF 75 for two pizzas and two drinks is definitely too much for the service provided. Very disappointed, definitely not recommended.

I am really disappointed. The pizza is still very good but the waiting time is honestly incredibly long. Last few times I came to have a pizza it took almost an hour from the time I ordered to when I finally got the pizza, clearly something isn’t working

I eat there so rarely it's really hard to tell if they're progressively getting worse or if it's just a matter of chance. First time was absolutely top notch but other than that always different. Yesterday was a combo of dough not properly fermented + the pizza was baked too hot which made it scorched at the bottom — not the expected tiger spots but properly — and underbaked in the rims. Overall average. For the price it should be nailed most of the time.

Pizza was excellent. Recommend the Dio Mio pizza with salami and a spicy honey. Principessa salad was good. Also recommend their limoncello spritz. Nice patio for outdoor seating. Inside was excellent.

Very tasty pizza. I absolutely recommend it. Our daughter ordered a Margherita in the children's version (bunny). It was so good that she ate it all without a problem. I took Tonno and my husband Calabrese. Both very good and easy to digest. We sat outside. Is very pleasant. Service is friendly and organized. Would love to come back.

Good morning, we went to eat pizza last night with friends after a while. The food was good, not excellent. The service was really poor, the waitresses were unprofessional, in particular one who didn't understand what language she spoke. Service is very important in a restaurant, but it seems that in Basel it is not. The environment was very noisy, the tables were too close together, it was difficult to talk and hear friends. Not a relaxing experience like a dinner with friends should be, especially considering the high prices.

In summer there is seating outside. The service employee was very attentive and friendly. The pizza tasted wonderful, just a real Napoletana. The ingredients make a very fresh impression to me. The salad was crisp and with homemade dressing, certainly with a good olive oil and delicious balsamic vinegar. Always happy to come back.

Let's begin with the salads; unfortunately, they fell short with a rating of 1.5/5. Both the fennel salad and vegetable salad lacked flavor, poor seasoning, and were overall uninspiring. On the bright side, the pizzas were quite good, particularly the Diablo, which was simply amazing. However, the dough didn't quite meet expectations when it came to holding all the toppings in place. There were sections where the cheese and toppings separated from the pizza, possibly due to the heat or the dough itself. I had hoped they would serve the pizza with scissors in the classic style, as it was quite difficult and frustrating to cut it with a knife. We had to put in a lot of effort and almost ruined the pizza in the process just to get a decent slice. I would rate the place 3/5, but I must commend the enjoyable atmosphere. Hopefully, they can make improvements and learn from the Italians. I also wonder if the place has a Nopaltina certificate and if the dough is prepared with the utmost care.

The pizza is okay, but the base is much too thin, tomato sauce of course without oregano :-( The service: they don't speak German, don't know the menu and come after ten minutes. Typically in Basel, waiting times are very, very long. The pizza is better than the other restaurants, even if it's not real pizza, so I'll still come back. I'll never get used to the bad service. I order myself now and don't even wait until they come at some point. The espresso is the best in Basel, that's why you should come here.

DioMio is one of my 2 preferred pizza places in Basel. It has a pleasant, informal ambience and the staff are friendly and efficient. Have been there on a few occasions and my favorite pizza is the house special, DioMio. However during this visit I ordered the Diavolo which didn’t disappoint either.

Food great, service flop! Our waiter barely understood German and English was also mixed. The second time we ordered drinks, we were forgotten and then had to ask another waitress. The rest of the pizza that we wanted to take home was also forgotten (what a shame!). The pizza definitely ended up in the trash. Due to the difficult communication, I didn't even ask anymore. All in all, very poor performance. It's a shame, because the food is very tasty.☺️

The furnishings are incredibly beautifully done, very rustic but still somewhat elegant. Very cozy. The food is very good! So the pizza was incredibly good! So totally worth the price in my opinion. Unfortunately, what makes the restaurant bad in my opinion is the staff and the service. No friendly greeting. You will be stared at rather unfriendly. People said “what do you want here” as a greeting, very cheeky. When ordering, no good knowledge of German and also unclear volume when speaking. You have to ask for pepper and spicy foods. And no farewell or other effort to make the guests comfortable. It's an incredible shame because the food is very good and the location is so beautiful. 😕

Disaster! Pizza Parma without Prosciutto di Parma and Rucola (basically half of the pizza was not in the pizza) and Pizza Regina without Mozzarella di Bufala….

There are delicious pizzas, classics and also slightly more unusual versions here. Depending on the space, you sit a little tight, so you can hear everything from the neighboring table... The service was friendly, someone new had just been introduced, so they came in pairs and it had to be done twice... But I'd love to come back

I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately my pizza was too overcooked and had a charcoal taste. Others seemed fine though and the ambiance is very nice so I would give it another chance.

The pizza was way too wet and you couldn't eat it with your hand as you should. The ambience was far too loud, the ventilation wasn't really good either - it's a shame

What particularly impressed me at DIO/MIO was the extremely attentive waiter. The pizza prosciutto was also quite ok.

Pizza dough like shoe sole, inedible, worst pizza ever.

Second Italian restaurant from che vuoi that focuses on pizza. First things first, the pizza was good, but not very good, there are better ones. There was also soup beforehand, but we were neither made aware of it nor asked if we wanted it! Unfortunately, the pizza that came to the table quickly was also a little black. But this was an exception because the other pizzas didn't have that. The waitress was ok, didn't know what capers were and there weren't any on the tonno cipolla, which would be normal for me. Because of Tonno, you had to search to find the tuna on the pizza. When I mentioned the black pizza share, I was asked for an espresso, of course I thought it was offered. But I would have had to pay that. After a little probing, the waiter waived it for me. It's a shame, but this still needs to be improved.

We went to this resti to have a drink on Carnival 2023. But we had to wait an extremely long time for the staff. Even when the order was placed, it took a long time. We ordered hot chocolate. For us this was served in paper cups. At the neighboring table, however, the hot chocolate was served in normal cups. We also had to wait a long time until the bill came. Unfortunately there were no traditional meals such as flour soup etc. at the carnival.

My wife, I and my 2 year old son went to this restaurant a few weeks ago on a Sunday at 12 o'clock. The place was empty, after having sat down, we order 2 pizzas for us and for my son I had kindly asked for just 2 pieces of cheese and a slice of ham in case he didn't want pizza. The young lady who served us instead offered me a plate of appetizers (with salami, olives etc..) for the child, she couldn't have done anything else... well, incredible, I didn't even wish I had asked for it for free!!! I wanted to insist and asked what I thought was the manager on duty, who promised me that he would take care of it... he goes up, down, passes in front of our table 20 times and my son is still waiting for his plate today!! The ham on the pizza was cut an inch high and of poor quality. As Italians we left the restaurant truly dissatisfied, it was the first and last time..

Really tasty food in a pretty nice atmosphere.

The food is good. Unfortunately the service is very poor. No warm welcome, table allocation was for your own benefit. Cutlery was missing when the pizza came. Salt and oil and pepper only upon request. The service had the quality of temporary staff. No goodbyes when leaving the restaurant. It's actually a shame because the location is cool and with little else it would be a recommendable address.

The pizza “Roastbeef con Tartufo” is an exciting creation and very tasty. The staff could understand German a little better, then the 5 stars would be appropriate (but maybe I was just unlucky with the waiter)

Of course I have the D.O.P. Pizza chosen. Really good and authentic. Big plus point for the Origina Birra Moretti from Italy (and not the one from Heineken from Lucerne)
