The meat was well cooked but the accompaniments were not great. Very dirty fries and 3 vegetables chasing each other. Not being able to order a entre side below 980 gr (no kidding) we fell back on the prime rib and paid a fortune. Now we understand why all the people around us were eating pizza 😂 We paid around 80,- pp for a single dish, 1 glass of wine, 1 door, a beer and a coke

I didn't like the cuisine at all... the bruschetta was made with dry and old bread... the rest was nothing special.

A truly beautiful place, very well looked after, on the outskirts of Ascona. Very kind staff. Beautiful presentations of the dishes, even those seen passing by. The one meter pizza is worth seeing and, I think, good too... it looked great, you have to be hungry (at least 3-4 people). Good price quality even if, now almost everywhere in Ticino, prices have risen further.

The food is simply great and the waitresses are very friendly.

The huge bottles are funny and the huge pizza by the meter to share is something different. It's also great to sit under a canopy of leaves. Service is a bit slow. Otherwise everything was delicious and great.

Unfortunately you don't feel welcome. Despite the fact that nothing was going on, we were seated at a table that was already occupied. We were given the menu and asked for an aperitif, but were only offered mineral water or beer. For all other guests, a separate meat menu was set up and explained and an aperitif of the day was suggested. Unfortunately, since we didn't know that there was more to choose from, we decided on the spare ribs and the entrecote. We were looking forward to eating, since we are in a “steak house” after all. The disappointment came with the first bite. The spare ribs were very dry and despite efforts, only a fraction of the meat came off the bone. The marinade tasted like nothing. The entrecote was ok, you can't go wrong. The BBQ fries are just regular fries. After our disappointing meal we just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. When we asked for the bill, all we got was a snappy "coming"... After 5-7 minutes the bill came and the waiter ran away without asking whether we wanted to pay with card or cash. After 5 minutes we disturbed the waiter while clearing the empty tables and said that we wanted to pay with the card. It probably bothered him so much that he came after a few minutes, typed in the amount without comment and quickly fled again. We had to get our own receipt from the reader because no one came and we finally left without seeing the cellars again. We're not very fastidious because it can be hectic at times, but as a waiter you are the figurehead of the restaurant. Conclusion We were very disappointed and felt very uncomfortable. Finally I was able to taste a proper Naples pizza

Very good food. Very expensive but good if you want meat, fish or wine. Ambiente looks better from the outside. It was quite loud and it got bitten by many mosquitos which came from the bush surrounding the restaurant.

It felt like we (mother & son) were treated as second class. My son was sitting in the rain, no one cared, but the people next to us got a different seat... The service came right under your nose to dispense oil etc. We were not shown the menu with the meat. The rum was missing from the dessert... Not recommendable. I will never eat there again.

The welcome from the hostess was a bit unfriendly, we didn't really feel welcome like we know from other great restaurants around Ascona. The service also seemed stressed. The food was good.

The food was great. Unfortunately we didn't have a reservation but the manager of the house got us a place anyway. Since it was relatively busy, we sometimes had to wait a little long to order something. But the friendly and familiar atmosphere made up for it.

Great grill restaurant. Hmmmm super nice. But I find at CHF. 100.- per person and 2 rounds of limoncello, it would be a nice gesture to have a limoncello at CHF. 7.- per glass on the house. Especially since a bottle of limoncello (approx. 6 glasses) costs CHF. 15.- is sold. This as a suggestion. It's common in Italy.

The insider tip in Ascona! Good food in a Ticino atmosphere with top service.

Definitely a restaurant for meat lovers and not suitable for vegans. The terrace is nice and we were greeted friendly with our dog. Unfortunately we were a bit unlucky as we were bombarded with cigarettes, cigarillos and even cigars from all sides. The smoke only escapes very slowly through the terrace roof. Nevertheless, the restaurant is worth a visit.

There were five of us motorcyclists, we were served very friendly and ate very well. Again any time.

We've been there several times in the last few years, everything we've tried so far has been very good: salad, risotto, meat dishes, pizza. Very fine cuts of meat, perfectly prepared and with fine homemade sauces, but not exactly cheap. Fine house aperitifs (not just run-of-the-mill Hugo etc). Friendly service. Location right on the street doesn't bother the garden under the vines.

Yesterday evening (6.30 p.m.) guests with Gina & her team!!! A warm welcome from the boss at the smoker who made his meat tasty for us, the smell!!!!! Splendid!!!! Very nice welcome from Gina who accompanied us to our (pre-reserved) table... Good introduction to the dishes and drinks!!!! First of all, a mixed appetizer platter, accompanied by pizza bread, super recommendation!!!! Afterwards spare ribs--- Fantastic!!! 1x pizza, not quite what I expected... but still 5 stars 🌟 and we'll be happy to come back!!!!! Thank you for your hospitality and see you next time...

The food was amazing, the meat they serve is so delicious and the combinations were also excellent. One of the staff was a bit out of his shoes, the main course had already arrived even though we were all still eating the starter, but we still took it so that it stayed warm. He had forgotten our drinks and was reminded again by someone from the service. It's a shame for such a good restaurant! But otherwise it was awesome!

The food in this restaurant is extremely good. The grilled meat is excellent and the pizzas are among the best I know. The price is rather high but fair for the performance received.

Our last two visits on March 28, 2023 (evening) and April 2, 2023 (lunch) were a blast. Friendly welcome, excellent service, above-average food. The host couple is very friendly and accommodating. Anytime again, an absolute recommendation!!!

It is important for any restaurant that charges high prices to provide top quality service and ensure that customers are consistently satisfied. If this is not respected, then it is necessary for the restaurant to take measures to improve its level of service. It is obvious that the restaurant still has a lot to learn and change in terms of the details of its service. Food excellent, highly recommended. The employees are very stressed but try hard and do a good job. Unfortunately, Gina is very arrogant and unfriendly. The two of us paid over CHF 200.00 and would have liked to have given a really nice tip, but that doesn't go to the waiter's benefit but goes into a collective fund. A pity....

Restaurant overrun by tourists with little care and hospitality towards the guest. On Saturday 03.25.23 we booked a table for two at 7.30 pm. Outside the venue we find a queue of people waiting to enter. Nobody takes care of the reception. Since we had booked we pass the queue and enter the restaurant. Waiters running back and forth, but still no one who even gives us a glance. We remain standing for 5 minutes, after which a waitress arrives and hastily points us to the table assigned to us with her hand. Another 10 minutes pass before they bring us the card. We order 2 spritzes for an aperitif. No appetizers and watered-down spritz for fr. 9.50.- As a main course I take the octopus risotto with squid ink. Rubbery octopus that you can't cut and mushy risotto with a predominant nut flavour. Inedible! Appreciated the fact that I wasn't made to pay for the risotto and that I was offered coffee, but it remains a Saturday evening to forget.

Unfortunately overpriced - even for Ascona. Actually quite tasty and cozy - especially outside. Service was friendly but unfortunately overwhelmed and lengthy. Too many tables are served by too few staff, which drags everything out. In terms of taste, they would have to improve a bit for the prices.

We were not received well. Instead the owner lady ordered us to not take seat. Then she asked the blocker question "did you reserve" and as we hadn't, she gave preference to friends of hers who entered the restaurant after us. You will get served pure arrogance here and nothing else! Don't waste your time and do not let her spoil your mood.

It was once again worth going to a restaurant that was well attended. I was here for two evenings and can only say positive things. Starters, pizza, pasta: everything was great! Plus really good and warm service. If I ever come to Ascona again, I'll definitely come back. Thanks!

Me and my wife had reservations for dinner. I actually wanted the saddle of venison for myself, but the menu didn't say anything about at least 2 people. When I ordered afterwards, I was annoyed and pointed this out. So I order spare ribs and she an entercote because we thought we were in a GrillHouse. When it came to the entercote, she didn't ask how she wanted it (medium, etc.), the spare ribs looked great but didn't taste like anything, did you forget the seasoning? I definitely expect more for 38.- for spare ribs without side dishes! In general, the service was characterized by hecticness and annoyance, so that you didn't feel welcome. The staff from last Friday were very warm and welcoming. We often go out to eat and were just on holiday in Italy, but have never eaten Italian in a restaurant as good as at da Gina's. The pizza, tortellini and risotto were first class. On the second evening we regretted a little that we didn't eat in this restaurant again. We'll definitely be back! A small oasis in Ascona with lots of great dishes. Grill, smoker and other equipment. The pizza was a poem. The ribs looked perfect and there are lots of nice meat dishes on offer. The bar makes great drinks. The service was super friendly - we were super satisfied and will come back soon.

Very good specialties and very nice terrace, but a little expensive

I've been to "Da Gina" three times in the meantime. 2x for dinner and 1x for lunch. I really liked the beef tartare. The right spiciness and taste exactly as it should be. The main course was also delicious. What wasn't so great for non-smokers, of course, is that most smokers simply don't care whether you're eating or not. That just kills the beautiful atmosphere and especially the smell every time. During the first two visits I just lived with it but of course it annoyed me. Last night (08/26/22) was my 3rd visit and I was the first guest. As soon as I started eating my tartare, the next guests came and enjoyed it. 2 ladies got a seat behind me and then they both started smoking and the smoke went straight to me... just made me vomit. I then got up and explained the situation to Domenico and that I was sorry, but I couldn't enjoy the food like that. Domenico immediately offered me another place (far away from the ladies). Later, when a couple sat at this table (reserved), Domenico was so great and even asked the two of them if they smoked. However, they were both non-smokers 👌🏻 I even started talking to the couple and it was a really cool evening. Long story short. I really like Gina and Domenico does his job really well. He comes across as personable with a very collegial manner... like a buddy 😁👌🏻 Actually 4.5 ⭐ I'm looking forward to my next visit with da Gina. Food and ambience were very good. Unfortunately the meat was too cold at first and I got the wrong side dish. However, this was then corrected.
