Entrecôte Fédérale Bern in Bern

I booked a table for 2 with 4 days in advance. When we arrived we found out that our table was a very small setup crammed with other people in a small room upstairs far away from the empty rooms in the rest of the restaurant. It was 18.30 hr so not many people about. There was no reserved sign on the table, whilst we were surrounded with lots of different other tables with the writing reserved and the guest name on it (mostly German sounding names). Our table did not have a reserved sign on and we were given a walk-in table instead. Another couple got sat on a bigger and better table and got served straight away, they also had a reserved sign on it. We were left waiting and got served afterwards. They were locals speaking German. We were crammed in one side of the restaurant with other people all coming from abroad. We were from Ticino with Italian and English heritage. We felt discriminated, treated differently. Very sad to see that there is so much difference in treatment between locals and tourists. I would be extremely curious to understand where their biggest return is from a business point of view?! Also, cutlery and glassware were dirty. Our chips burned. The waiters’ manners not up to scratch and considering the very steep prices, this should be a must. The Verdi Restaurant is a much better option for the same prices. Not impressed. Most likely a tourist trap.

A place to return to! We came with a reservation and although we went ahead there was no problem! Very attentive and friendly service! Exquisite food ! Sublime entrecôte! The apple pie dessert with vanilla ice cream was awesome! We don't have any problems, we just want to return soon :)

Great restaurant with great entrecote.

A restaurant with history has been there twice now, and there are always political celebrities there. The restaurant is narrow but has charm. The staff is friendly but you can tell the stress at work was there in the evening when all the tables were occupied. The food is very good, the wine selection is great, what more could you want. The prices are more due to the location at the Federal Palace but it fits.

The food was really delicious! great, lively atmosphere in an excellent location. Despite being busy, the service is very efficient, friendly and courteous. Always very busy, so reservations are recommended. I always enjoy being a guest at the Fédéral!

Yesterday, after a long break, we went to a Tatar at the Federal again. What we noticed during the visit: the quality was extremely poor! Especially the KITCHEN!!! The tartare was no longer as tasty as before, medium was ordered, but it was too mild for our guest. He can understand this well, he (or she) has been a guest in the restaurant several times and NEVER had any reason to complain; except yesterday! For dessert I ordered a Coupe Baileys and had to wait 20 minutes (!). According to the waiter, it was left in the kitchen. But what I was given here for Fr. 12.50 defies description: a scoop of mocha ice cream, no trace of Baileys, and no whipped cream at all! This was TOO EXPENSIVE dessert to say the least! The food is still excellent, the market salad, which comes with almost every dish, is wonderful with a very tasty salad dressing. The only downside is still the darn coffee women, some of whom stay in the dining area until well after 12 o'clock and retaliate against the service staff for turning over the tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The red wine is not tasty. It seems as if the glasses are being cleaned and some detergent remains. Smells like perfume. Received a new different wine, but this is exactly the same one we had. Same bad smell in glass and nasty taste. Don't ask if you like it. No salt or pepper when eating. We had the carpaccio but nothing special.

We were there for quite a long time, first for an aperitif and then we ate. The first waiter wasn't really attentive and often ignored us. Thank God Andrea came and pulled the cart around. Big compliments to her!! Food was sensational! Entrecote was perfect and fries were wonderfully crispy! Will come back when Andrea is there

Unfortunately I can only give 1 star. We were ignored, not asked and certainly not noticed. We sat on the terrace for 12 minutes and could hear extremely embarrassing/private conversations between the lady employed and 4 young people who were 2 tables away from our table. Really bad if you don't get any service at all. Never again and not worth recommending!!!

Well located, just opposite the Federal Palace. We were lucky to find a table without a reservation. The service was stressful but our waitress managed to keep a smile, the atmosphere worthy of a great Parisian brasserie, and the steak very tender. Too bad the desserts weren't up to par, industrial pie crust, tasteless Bayleys ice cream. Value for money, expensive

What can you say: you simply have to have an entrecôte here. No restaurant for vegetarians. Reservation is recommended.

As the name suggests, the best thing here is the entrecote. Meat quality and cooking level top. The service is very attentive and friendly even in hectic times.

On December 26th, the three of us wanted to have a coffee with our daughter at 12:15 in the restaurant where the Federal Councilors sometimes eat. People were smoking on the terrace so we wanted to do it inside the restaurant. All the tables were set up for eating, but only three tables had people sitting - all the other tables were free. We were told we had to sit outside with the smokers, inside was only for eating, so we went to another restaurant where we were welcome. 1 hour later we walked past again and everything was still clear - really disappointing!

Our server was so friendly and the food was really good, especially the walnut salad which had a delicious dressing. The steak and fries were also great.

Very good entrecôte, fried to perfection. The waiter was great, unobtrusive, professional and funny. The only negative point: very expensive. It's normal that the meat plates are expensive. In my opinion, the desserts are overpriced.

A very nice restaurant in the middle of Bern directly opposite the Federal Palace. A delicious menu leaves nothing to be desired. As the restaurant name suggests, the entrecôte can be highly recommended. The wine list is also quite impressive. Competent and friendly service knows what is important to make guests feel comfortable. Mid price

Even though the restaurant was packed to capacity, the service was very friendly and professional. Even the boss came by personally and had time for a few words. So we found out that the entire Federal Council regularly comes to eat on the first floor...

Incredibly nice service yesterday in the Bundesratsstübli! I'm not much of a meat eater, but the entrecote was fine, the French fries allumettes could be even finer. When all the seats in the Stübli were occupied, it was loud. Not for the hard of hearing.

Monday 1:30 p.m. fast, efficient service, very good salad sauce with walnut fragments, perfectly cooked steak. Looking forward to burning a 100 note.

Very nice place and which really corresponds to what we expect from this kind of place. Between delicious ribs with good portions. The starter salad is really delicious and the fries are good.

A Wienerschnitzel simply includes cranberries. Not available here even upon request. Service is slow unfortunately, probably too few staff. The lettuce is fine, as is the meat. Price/performance borderline. It used to be better.

Reservations must be made here in the evening. Great accomodation if too late (30min!!). Meat menus highly recommended. Unfortunately, service cannot keep up with the quality of the food: very friendly but scatterbrained. Restaurant is packed in the evenings, tables are quite close together, so the atmosphere is a bit hectic.

Never disappointed! A classic from Bern

We recommend! The service was top. Despite the restaurant being full. The ambience was also great. The food was very good. The only two drawbacks: The spicy tartare was more of a normal, non-spicy tartare (but spiciness is in the eye of the beholder) and the cordon bleu could have been a little more cooked through. But despite these things it was excellent!

Perfect restaurant. We ate very, very well, very good food, very well cooked. Very very pleasant staff and very very helpful. Very very good experience. On the other hand, it is the Swiss capital, so you should expect prices adapted to the location. A perfect dinner and thank you very much.

Entercô wasn't good at all, it was way too tough, I didn't eat much, had to pay the full price!!!!not recommended

Don't go to this restaurant, it's a tourist trap. The kitchen is really very mediocre. Filthy dishes...even the fries are bad. Of the many restaurants we have visited in Bern, this is the worst. I was going to give one star for the friendly service but the forced sale of a starter salad that we had never ordered means that it will only be 1 star.

Not terrible at all. I took the vegetarian menu, a thin slice of zucchini fried in breadcrumbs drizzled with industrial tomato sauce served with tasteless rice. It’s simple, I didn’t eat anything and left very quickly. Very expensive for what is so little, extremely disappointed with this passage.

Very Good service and tasty Food!

Situated at the heart of the city in front of Luzern bahnhof, it’s just adjacent to the boat ride station. It’s an upscale place and offers pretty reasonable breakfast options. We went for the breakfast as well it’s better to reserve before you visit the crewed here are usually posh. You have options to sit out next to the beautiful city view and lake where you can watch boat arrive and depart or you can sit in with a beautiful ambiance. Food was nothing different than what we s already had in other restaurants in the Luzern.

We were there on October 12th. for lunch there. We didn't make a reservation, but got a table spontaneously. We had to wait a very long time (three quarters of an hour) for the cordon bleu and the entrecote. As the previous speaker already mentioned, the Cordon Bleu cheese has been phased out. In our opinion, the fries were also too thin and hard. Like they were forgotten in the deep fryer. The salad was perfect for that. Finally: It's a shame there isn't a lunch menu that's cheaper. We only eat that expensively in the evening.

Excellent meat! Too bad the fries are no longer sticky, that would be even better! As for the service, it was busy and the wine arrived a little late. Good address anyway.

We ate on their terrace, in one of the very few free tables they had, something that stood out that we liked was that they warned us that the kitchen was a bit full and that it could take a while, when it arrived, it was delicious and tasty, very nice place, recommended .

The food was delicious. It was relatively loud inside the restaurant and the service was overwhelmed by our group. We had to wait a long time for the food (even though we had reserved and pre-ordered) and paying was also a hassle. But the food deserves three stars because it was rather expensive.

This was supposed to be medium steak. It was cold and raw inside.

We bought a voucher for the candlelight dinner. However, the decoration with rose petals was missing for the second time. A pity. The food and service were absolutely outstanding.

Staff not friendly, food ok but not much choice.

The Bundesplatz in Bern is framed by three influential institutions: the Bundeshaus, the Nationbank and, pssst, the most influential, the Fédéral. His sphere of influence extends into the stomach. The others can't do that. The name of the restaurant says it all. I had a crisp mixed salad and very tender entrecote served by very attentive service. Federal Councilors present are simply distracting from what is really important. Anyone who appreciates good food in the center of power of the Confederation cannot ignore the Fédéral.

The place is normal and the food is good esp. the entrecôte. I was with my family sitting outside for lunch and a couple sat behind us and the man started smoking his cigar(stinky cigar). He was very ill-mannered and impolite. An elderly tourist couple requested him not to smoke but he replied disrespectfully that “it is allowed to smoke in outside in EU”. He knew almost every employee by name at the restaurant(they were joking and laughing). All the employees were well aware that he was annoying but they didn’t bother to take any action. This is not a good gesture from such an authentic place.

We ate very well and enjoyed excellent service. Thank you.😊

The entrecote is simply amazing, so don't forget the Cafe de Paris sauce. Straccartella ice cream is 100% worth it, it has lots of very large chocolate pieces in it...miammmiiii The service is very professional, we like to come back whenever we are in Bern! We have been eating at Fédérale off and on for many years. The food and service is always reliably excellent.

Once and never again. The staff makes the guests die of thirst. We reserved a table and even called to say we were 10 minutes late. Nobody on site knew anything about our reservation. The food is poorly seasoned (bland). It also took 25 minutes until we received a salad with some bread (fresh and delicious). It's not for nothing that I would ever set foot in this restaurant again.

Attention: Medium steak was medium rare. But still delicious and service good. And don't you think that with an order of over 50 SFR for lunch and wine per person you will get free tap water. Even if you ask up the chain of command. That is why I am removing a star from my earlier review. PS At the Giardino in the Kursaal they give you an unsolicited glass of water with your wine, even if you do not eat! And nuts!

Visited this restaurant several times. A nice location, a descent atmosphere, and friendly people. FRIED PERCH FILLETS SAUCE TARTARE is recommended. STEAK SIRLOIN CAFÉ DE PARIS is famous but salty to me. Hope to pay a visit in the future.

First time eating there, it was amazing, the food was perfect, very good quality and prepared with love. It felt like being in France, love the pommes allumettes (thin french fries) - the price is quiet high but worth it if you like meat!

Extremely well located restaurant with breathtaking views from the terrace overlooking the Federal Pali. The welcome is really warm and attentive. We had the specialties of federal cordon bleu and Viennese schnitzel, which were both delicious. With these 2 dishes, as a starter, a mixed salad is served in a bowl. All dishes were served with generous portions.

Had a lovely meal there yesterday. The steak medium-rare was Swiss beef, beautifully tender and juicy, paired with a lovely sauce full of umami. Every mouthful was a delight. The perch from Lake Geneva was deep-fried to a crisp, as was the pommes frite, served with freshly made tartar sauce. We rounded it off with a lemon tart which was another winner. Citrusy with a nice balance of sweetness. Will definitely visit again the next time I'm in Bern.

Very courteous and attentive service. The cordon bleu was wonderfully juicy and tasty, the salad dressing was well seasoned, the alumettes were crispy and crunchy. This was definitely not my last visit to the Entrecôte Café Fédéral.

The Entrecôte Fédérale restaurant is a charming place to enjoy delicious dishes. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is pleasant. I recommend this restaurant, their perch fillet is delicious and their desserts are also excellent.

Very good steak served with a mixed salad and fries. Delicious. Super friendly server. As for the prices, we also pay for the fact that it is on the federal square and very touristy. But I recommend, very good address!

Restaurant with a large terrace, it is better to reserve to ensure a place. Because of the name, we don't hesitate when ordering...250g Entrecote! It's just meat, not like in Spain where half is fat. Very juicy meat, accompanied by fries. With a good beer, excellent dinner
