Findlerhof in Zermatt

Only reachable by skis or boards, the location is outstanding. We sat outside with a direct view of the Matterhorn. The rosti was especially great.

A little unexpectedly, arriving without reservation: the lady there managed to find us seats inside in a magnificent room, super friendly staff and a delicious meal. Excellent value for money.

This is a must if you’re skiing Zermatt! Make sure to make a reservation and hope to catch it on a nice day because the views and food combined are the most elite experience one could ask for. Everything we ate and drank was beyond delicious and all on a sunny day on the side of the mountain with views of the Matterhorn. Staff was friendly, menu had a lot of variety, and vibes are unbeatable. Would definitely recommend this over or instead of Chez Vrony if you’re having difficulty with reservations!!

Once renowned for its exquisite fine dining, the restaurant's quality has declined since the son took control. Many beloved signature dishes have been axed from the menu, replaced by generic offerings like Bratwurst and Rösti, aimed at fleecing tourists with inflated prices. It's a far cry from the culinary excellence it once boasted, now merely coasting on its former reputation. Sad.

"It's my first time visiting Zermatt, and there are many memorable stories. Findlerhof is a place that I really like. The journey there may take time and require a lot of walking, but the cool weather makes it comfortable. Upon arrival, the fatigue disappears. The view is beautiful, the sky is clear, and I can see the mountain peaks. Amazing food and very friendly staffs! it’s just a place you can’t miss!!!

We were there on a wonderful autumn day. The view of the Matterhorn is breathtaking. Despite the “full house”, our waitress was extremely friendly, courteous and attentive, for example translating the daily specials for our English-speaking participants. The food was excellent. Everything was great and therefore highly recommended!

Worth hike..for the food and the view

A place of the heart. No visit to Zermatt without a break in the more than idyllic Findlerhof at the exit of the picture-book hamlet of Findeln. You sit on the wooden terrace directly opposite the Matterhorn and think/feel: I don't want to leave here! Findlerhof boss Franky is a likeable, honest Upper Valais native of the younger, tough generation, with whom you can chat wonderfully, genuinely and honestly about God and the world - especially those on the Matterhorn. Be sure to try the perfect Matterhorn Rösti - accompanied by the fresh Findlerhof salad. And a homemade iced tea. Happiness is perfect. Guaranteed!

Zermatt is a tourist loaded area…so get off the beat and path and stay in a place up here and eat here!

This is still one of the greatest mountain restaurants in Zermatt and a lunch there is always special. Yes, there is a distinct sense that the menu has been stripped back since the pandemic. Gone are almost all of the seafood items (such as the tuna carpaccio, the fish soup and even the legendary grilled prawns), the fresh spargel and the daily "specials". This may yet prove to be a mistake and it's possible that other establishments will overtake Findlerhof. But what they do, they do fantastically well.

03/24/23 / 12.00 Absolute insider tip in the Zermater (VS) ski area. Quality of the food is simply heavenly. Service staff were very friendly and quick, even under great stress. Amazing restaurant!! I ordered the vegetarian quiche and I split the pesto ravioli (special) Al with my friend. Both were phenomenal. We also tried the dessert sampler which was also delicious. Nice music, great patio deck overlooking the Matterhorn. Tough to find! Take the 6 trail down and take a left towards chez vrony at the fork. It’s the second restaurant you pass. The walk down was a bit tough in ski boots but there is a rope to hold onto along the way. Hidden gem!!

Okay what to say about this restaurant that hasn't been said before. Number one either have to walk or ski to get there. Amble down a narrow path to enter a otherworldly beautiful restaurant with a equally gorgeous vista of the matter horn. Definitely need reservations and sunscreen. We had a couple of delicious meals and a small bottle of wine. The service was nice and attentive but not intrusive and young.

Very varied menu, good wines and a spectacular view. I recommend going there for lunch in the mountains, especially in winter as it is beautiful in the sun. You can get there via the blue ski slope or by hiking from Sunnnega. It's a 25-minute walk.

A must on the slopes of Zermatt, excellent service, amazing views, WOW food with a super respectable wine list (try the Lamb shank on Aglio Olio and u will understand why I wrote WOW). For non skiers you can Hike up from the Village, its abt an hr & 15 min, a bit uphill, but worth every step!!!! Make sure you book in the covered patio outside...

Findlerhof was home to my favorite meal in Zermatt! The atmosphere is beautiful and unpretentious, and the service was great. We enjoyed an unforgettable lunch in the midst of a ski day and the view was absolutely captivating. I can’t imagine a better dining experience while on the slopes!

This had to be the best traditional Swiss food I have had in Switzerland! The Rosi was excellent with the spiced wine. The 3 desserts were creamy and sweet too. Would highly recommend the visit!

Wow, even if the outside of Findlerhof isn't as chic and stylish as the neighborhood, the food is amazing. In addition to the current game dishes, it also had beef, lamb and pork on offer. We had the spare ribs with honey glaze, beef fillet, fried to perfection, piled high with fresh porcini mushrooms on a rocket salad and venison fillet, juicy and pink, with porcini mushrooms with fine red cabbage and very tasty spaetzle, half an apple with cranberries. For dessert there was delicious rhubarb cake. Hymns of praise were also heard at the neighboring tables. The service was on point and very friendly. Hmmm... we're already looking forward to next time.

A worthy hike with brilliant views

White wine was warm. Staff was surprises that white wine should be chilled. Food far to expencive for a little bid of smoked fish.

We have returned after 6 years and it has been worth it! It is the last restaurant on the way, so if you want to finish the route of the 5 lakes after finishing eating you have to climb a good hill! The waiters are very friendly and cordial, they have treated us very well. We ate 2 rosti, both very delicious! We will be back!

The price is expectedly expensive, we spent 39EUR for 2 home made ice teas, one chocco taart and 1 capuccino. Therefore 4 stars, otherwise it deserves a 5. The staff serving us was incredibly friendly and helpful, serve beyond duty. There are also kids playground at the area of the restaurant with the mountain views. Furthermore all we ate or drink were tasty

This is THE address in the Findeln in Zermatt. Always only good reviews. Veal chops at their best and great wines. The waitress notices you immediately. Great service. This has been the case for many decades now.

Amazing restaurant is a magical place. Food is very good. We had a table exposed to the wind so we got a bit cold in the end but it's not like it's the staff's fault. We had the ribs which were a special that day and super tasty. Price was reasonable for Zermatt and much better price/quality than Vrony for instance! If they look fully booked online, try to call at 9am on the day and you might get lucky :)

If you are prepared for a workout in ski boots, I highly recommend Finderhof. Particularly, on a sunny day. Great food and atmosphere and one of the best views on earth. Just be prepared for a long steep walk down and then up to retrieve your skis!!

What a great discovery! Even if you have to take off your skis to get there, the detour is worth it! I recommend booking in advance. The dishes are delicious and the service is very fast, all with a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn

A gem of a lunch spot - and one of our consistent favorites in Zermatt

It's always a highlight to be hosted there. Hospitality is at the top, alongside the excellent cuisine with the classics veal liver or veal chops. Go to Franz and Heidi and let yourself be pampered. You deserve it!

We were out with the E-MTB for a day. Here you can get a delicious cup of coffee and an excellent lunch. Due to the elevation gain during our bike ride, we quickly had to recharge. That wasn't a problem there when we asked about it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thank you! Oh yes, the beautiful view of the Matterhorn is magnificent 😊

Une belle escale gourmande ! Organisation top malgré la situation, accueil super sympa multi langues et service très rapide. Une terrasse en plusieurs niveaux donnant une vue imprenable sur le Cervin. Spaghettis aux scampi pas mal du tout. J’ai vu des assiettes avec des souris d’agneau enormes ! Prix du vin un peu élevé par rapport aux autres restaurants du coin mais pas mal de choix de qualité. Un passage obligé à Findeln ! Merci Franz @ Heidi !
