Gandegghütte, Zermatt in Zermatt

There is almost no alternative to the Gandegg Hut for various projects in the area. You can spend the night there. I can't share the enthusiasm of other reviewers. I am well aware that there are different standards for bedrooms, food and sanitary facilities in a hut of this type and I have experience with various huts. In short: I accept that the hut is the way it is. But dinner was an imposition and I didn't think the three chopped cheese cubes per person for breakfast were okay. I've never experienced this anywhere before. The hosts are friendly. THREE stars for this and for the special situation in a hut.

Simple but cozy cabin. Located in the middle of the Zermatt mountain railways. Staff friendly. Priced at the upper limit for a mountain hut. Toilets rather unpleasant.

Enjoyed a fantastic stay at this stunning hut with terrific views of glaciers and high peaks. Felix and the team were incredibly welcoming, the food was lovely and the atmosphere was convivial and cosy at night. Can’t wait to go back!

Located in the middle of the impressive alpine world of Zermatt, the Gandegghütte is a good start, base camp or destination for large and small tours in the alpine mountains. Friendly hosts, fine food, a pleasant place to sleep and simple sanitary facilities await you.

Fantastic location and a good hut owner who knows the area well and will help you gives tips. Unfortunately, the rooms are very narrow and the mattresses are worn out. Rooms with glacier views are available for an additional charge!

The hut is beautifully located in the middle of glaciers and always with a view of the Matterhorn. The team is very friendly and attentive, so that you feel comfortable and warmly welcomed as soon as you arrive. The food was also very tasty and plentiful. We had the panoramic room with a view of the glaciers and the Breithorn, which was definitely worth the extra charge. Of course, the prices for food and drinks are at a high level but similar compared to the surrounding huts. You're just on the mountain without simple supply chains. We had a really nice stay and would come back at any time. Thank you!

Cozy atmosphere, good food and Easy stay after a long day of trekking!

A charming refuge, in a wonderful environment!! Spectacular views of the glacier and the entire Monte Rosa massif. A day of acclimatization that is difficult to forget.

It was wonderful. The hut is very rustic from 1885 and is privately owned. Luxury, WiFi and hot running water are not available. Since this year you can meet a new, super nice and familiar team here. The 4 course menu was fantastically good every evening. So good that we made up for it at least once or twice every evening. The sunrises and sunsets were also fantastic. The hut is in a perfect location for day trips to the Matterhorn or Breithorn. Simply perfect for anyone who likes things rustic and a little simpler.

Great location, food is good, but the price-performance ratio is a bad joke. 15 francs for 1.5 liters of water is simply outrageous and the packed lunch is tiny and has nothing to do with what you need in the mountains. For a hut with an outside toilet and a sink and no other sanitary facilities for brushing your teeth, washing, etc., the overnight prices are way over the top. Finally, the illogical breakfast time of 6-7 a.m. is completely incomprehensible for a transit hut. I hope the operators adjust the prices soon, otherwise we would unfortunately have to advise against the hut despite the great location.

For a first experience in a mountain cabin, it was perfect.

Very friendly people, with whom we shared a convivial moment over a beer. However, I would like to point out an issue that is extremely serious for refuge managers: not knowing the conditions of the routes that lead to the adjacent refuges, taking into account that there is a glacier nearby which exposes those who do not know it to potential dangers. It is not a question of communication, but of professional ethics

Nice mountain hut close to lift. Path from east to the hut is hard to find. Path from lift is easy and well marked.

Hut with a feel-good character. We thought it was great and would come back. This great hut is definitely worth a visit.

Staff is very friendly. The food is good and sufficient. Unfortunately there is no washing facility.

Fantastic place. I only stayed for a drink, but it's an incredibly welcoming and cosy place to visit. It would be an amazing place to stay. Very reasonable prices, especially considering the location. If you are near, it would be a mistake to not visit.
