We were at Hess Asia on December 31st, 2023. Visually it is a nice restaurant and also very clean. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't entirely convince us. We weren't shown to the table, we were just told that we would sit at the back at the big table. The waitress greeted us briefly and left. It took a few minutes until we received the menu and several more minutes until we received the drinks. The wine list was only available when we asked. It is clear to us that there are many foreign-speaking tourists in Engelberg and that the staff therefore speaks English and other languages. As a German-speaking group, we still expected that the staff would be able to take the order in German, which was not entirely the case. The starters (dim sum, gyoza, spring roll and edamame) were very tasty. The red curry and the fried rice were okay, but unfortunately the Pad Thai didn't impress everyone. In the end we had to wait some time for the bill and finally for the card machine (which we had already requested). We can definitely understand if the restaurant is full, the service is busy and the waiting times are longer. But it seemed very uncoordinated to us and we felt a bit on the sidelines. Overall it was okay, but not enough for a second time.

Very good and authentic food and very friendly staff.

It's the third time I've visited Engelberg and I always return to this restaurant. The food is simply delicious - whether meat or shrimp, both were sensational. The portions are large enough that no one will leave the restaurant hungry. What is also very important - you feel absolutely comfortable in this restaurant. The chef-de-service, Gaetano, is simply top class. Always friendly, extremely personable and helpful, he leaves nothing to be desired. I always felt very well looked after. You rarely find such a mix of professionalism and joy in your job. Many thanks to Gaetano and the team for all the great moments and excellent food that I was able to enjoy at the Hess Asia Restaurant! I would love to come back!

Thai food not authentic, other dishes ok

I ate there, got a double order with a hair in it... you can't communicate normally in German or English... so very strange and expensive in the end... never there again😉 strange

Asian food at the next level, both in terms of quality and price. CHF 320.00 for 4 people including wine? Everyone has to judge for themselves. Large selection of creative dishes...and the papaya salad was a sensation.

I advise you +++++++ Top establishment Delicious food. We had a pleasant time. The servers and cooks are top notch. The cook who is French came to greet us and give us help in reading the menu, it was very nice and we had a good chat, it was very pleasant. The rest of the staff was also top notch, nothing to say, the 2 waitresses were really perfect, great service.

Rarely experienced worse service! Five of us made a reservation in this restaurant on December 31, 2022 and were looking forward to ending the year in an upscale establishment. However, the whole experience turned around very early on when, after waiting 10 minutes for the menu, we only received four pieces and the waiter then asked me “oh, are you eating too?”. In a kebab shop you could still smile about something like that, but not in this advertised upscale establishment. Since I seemed to be the only one outraged by this inappropriate joke, I tried to calm myself down. After another long wait and painstaking ordering, the waitress, who had since changed, served us a mise en bouche - along with four plates. When she looked at me puzzled as to why I didn't have a plate (she had handed them out beforehand), she said I could eat it straight from the small plate. There's nothing negative to say about the starter, the papaya salad was delicious and pleasantly spicy. When it came to the main course, however, this restaurant's creativity seemed to run wild again. Two people with the same dish (Bami Goreng, 1x chicken, 1x tofu) received two strikingly different portion sizes. My fried rice was perhaps a shade darker than white and drier than attic dust. But all of this can only be topped by one little thing: one of our two vegetarians came across an extremely large piece of chicken in her red curry with tofu! Since the person sitting next to me was now also exhausted, he summoned the waitress to him. When asked about this mistake, she replied like a shot: "That's what she ordered!" If she had looked into the plate filled with tofu, this slip-up would hopefully not have happened to her, but after checking the order, asking “is that bad?” was now colloquialism wrong. Since she looked around at a loss, the person sitting next to her recommended that she get a small plate so that the piece of meat could be removed. We skipped the offered dessert on the house and left as quickly as possible so that we could still have a nice evening. What we can draw from this visit also seems to be clear to the residents of Engelberg: regular guests at the Hess Asia Restaurant are kings, and you can safely do without the rest. I advise everyone reading this review to avoid the restaurant and instead go to the kebab shop next door.

Amazing asian restaurant! The food was super delicious and the portions were big, almost couldn't finish haha! Staff was very friendly, they brought water for our dog. Prices are okay for Switzerland

The food was excellent. We ordered the Chicken Cashew nuts and the Thai Basilikum pork. And it's the best meal we've had by far. The attendant "Yanna" was excellent and she definitely brought our dining experiece to a whole new level. We highly recommend this place in Engelberg for a proper asian meal! 100 stars

Bad service and unfriendly staff. Waits a long time to be served.

Very nicely decorated. Food was very good. Quality of ingredients is better than many Asian restaurants in Europe. Service was a bit cold at first, but later okay. Prices are higher than most Asian food, but still just okay due to the quality. Certainly one of the better Asians in Switzerland. If the service was a little warmer it would definitely be 5 stars.

Very good food, great atmosphere

The 13 Gault Millau points ensured a wonderful evening with gourmet food. So we thought. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the expectations. Upon our complaint, we got informed the chef was not working in the restaurant anymore. However, a coffee was offered to make up for it. No fair play for the customers, but a perfect place for somebody who is happy to pay top money for take away quality.

Very slow service. 2 hours to receive a main course. Nothing special about the restaurant’s food. And not apologetic about the slow service.

I just happened to stop by on my way to Titlis Gondola Station... and I wondered where in Switzerland I could find such delicious Thai food. I enjoyed it so much. I highly recommend it!!

The atmosphere is very nice, the waiter is friendly and multilingual. The roast duck was crunchy and very tasty. Personally, I didn't like the sauce that came with it. The highlight were the WanTang bags. My partner's meal was ok but nothing special. The price was hefty for me at 112 CHF but it's a tourist area so that's to be expected.

Great food & such a good host. Didn't catch his name but he was from Slovakia and made us feel so comfortable. The red curry, the schezwan and fried rice were sll perfectly seasoned and quite delicious.

We had dinner here on 23.03. Everything was lovely - starting with the service, the wine and then the food (which was absolutely delicious). Can only recommend :)

Food is good in Europe standard but compared to Singapore it is hawker standard. Enjoy!

Positively surprised. Great ambience, good selection of dishes and requests (with tofu instead of meat) were catered for. The food came quickly and was delicious. The price is a bit high, but it's okay compared to the performance.

What a lovely surprise! A Thai pan Asian restaurant in Engelberg. We went there several times and were always impressed about the food quality and the friendly staff. A place to go if you are in Engelberg and fancy something exotic to eat. I can highly recommend

Very good and freshly cooked. Good service and the price-performance ratio is right. On several visits everything was always great.

We had very good meals here twice during our summer holidays. On the second visit there was also sushi as an appetizer. We can highly recommend it.

Unfortunately, we cannot confirm the previous rating average of 4.5. The food and the ambience convinced us. But too many mistakes happened that same evening. While the staff tried their best to iron things out, a single employee managed to ruin our evening and put the whole company in a bad light. He was unreasonable and ignored the criticism directed at him. It wouldn't hurt him or the restaurant to be more generous with guests in such cases. In my opinion, at least the employee mentioned is far from understanding this. So there are 4 stars for the restaurant and minus four stars for him. In any case, we won't be showing up there again.

The food was extremely good! Really very, very fine, we ate there three times during a weekend stay in Engelbert. A wonderful restaurant with incredibly nice staff and a great ambience. Highly recommended and a great menu!

Nach einer Besichtigung in Engelberg hat unser Team (20 Personen) im Hess Asia auf der Terrasse das Abendessen genossen. Das Essen, die Weinauswahl und der Service waren einzigartig. Die Gerichte in unterschiedlicher Schärfe waren sehr schön präsentiert und sehr lecker. Die Weinkarte lässt keine Wünsche offen und der herzliche, sympathische und super Service haben uns begeistert. Weiter so! Wir kommen bestimmt wieder!

What a great restaurant to find in the middle of nowhere! Our first night here and we ate dinner - it was lovely! Service was great and the food was delicious and spicy! Perfect for what we wanted. A little bit pricey but hey, that’s normal in Switzerland!

I really like the location. The furnishings are modern, but absolutely adapted to a mountain holiday resort. First a fine wine as an aperitif in the wine bar and then very good and fresh Asian food. The new chef is even better and it's worth eating at Asia. Kesh, the manager, is very friendly, gives good recommendations and makes you feel completely comfortable. The terrace also invites you to linger. Top.

A quite interesting Asian restaurant, with different types of Asian food. The quality of the food is very good. The vegetables are ready. Their Miso Soup is very salty, but otherwise it is very good The prices are normal in Switzerland. The atmosphere is relaxed and the decoration is very good. Sober and a bit of a fusion between photos of the mountains and old photos of China. The views of the mountains are a plus. Freundliche, unaufdringliche Bedienung trotz hoher Auslastung an einem Samstagabend während der Skisaison. Feine Küche, nicht "original spicy" (drei Sterne für erfahrenere Gaumen problemlos), auch für Teenager kein Problem. Schönes Gedeck inkl. Normanbesteck.

This is a Thai restaurant, not Chinese.... local people do not make the difference? Good food for local standards, but you may need to wait quite a while

On May 12th We wanted to eat here on Mother's Day. According to the homepage, open from 5 p.m. However, we found the sign on site around 1715, closed today. We then changed our mind at short notice for the Wasserfall restaurant - the fish was top👍🏼 On May 15th the homepage could no longer be opened with the reason "not a secure site"

Vanavond voor de 2e x (deze week) hier gegeten en het was wederom erg goed. Zeer vriendelijke en vlotte bediening en het eten was uitstekend! Wij zijn echte liefhebbers van de aziatische keuken, en dit is echt 1 van de betere waar wij ooit zijn geweest. Heerlijk en we komen hier zeker terug.

Hier gegeten nadat we de avonden ervoor bij de nummer 1 en 2 in Engelberg hadden gegeten. Gao’s is voor ons zondermeer nummer 1. Super smakelijk eten, redelijke prijs, warme gezellige inrichting en top bediening.

Best Chinese food I ever tasted in Switzerland. I had the beef szchuan, which was really tasty and spicy. Food got served with rice, fried pasta costs additional money. Place is very nicley made and seems like newly renovated. Good place to have an relaxed evening. Service was friendly and fast enough. Place actually was empty when we came in a few minutes after 7 pm, but half an hour later it started to fill up. Will be back next time I am in Engelberg...

I'm going to give this place a 5 star review because the food was excellent and everything else was nice. Chinese food done right, shame we are used to MSG takeout that makes that seem like an oxymoron. Appetizers, Roasted Duck and House Beef was knockout, also desserts are not to be missed!

Stilvoll und dennoch gemütlich, sowohl in Bezug auf das Interieur als auch auf das Ambiente. . . Viele schöne Bilder von Engelberg an den Wänden. Leckeres asiatisches Essen. Einige Gerichte sind wirklich fantastisch; zum Beispiel Goldenes Hähnchen, geröstete Ente, Garnelen und scharfe Chili. . . Gewöhnlicher war das Rindfleisch Szechuan. . . Gute Weine Sehr freundlicher und aufmerksamer Service!

Didn‘t get the chance to try the food; family-friendly is totally overrated, as they told us 5 times before we were seated that “it really takes long” (a.k.a. they don’t want kids in the house); when we sat they said again that for egg-fried rice (for the kids) we have to wait for one hour, so we left for “Bierlialp” which was great. Will never try this restaurant again; very complicated attitude.

Great food! The wait is worth it for the good, freshly prepared food. Very good.

The food is absolutely fine, that's why the 2 stars. The restaurant is not that big and therefore not too loud. Unfortunately, you really have to wait forever for the food. More than an hour after ordering, there was still no main course on the table, even though most of the guests present had arrived long before us. There didn't seem to be any work being done in the kitchen, because every time you caught a glimpse, nothing was cooking and the kitchen staff just looked around grimly. At the next table, a family waited over two and a half hours for their dessert! What a shame!

We had a great visit here with a large group. The food was really good and we had amazing salmon, chicken curry, shrimp appetizers (not pictured), and several others. Everything about the place was great, including the prices. The chef Kun Yi An personally called me to tell me the dishes I selected were too similar, and then arranged everything perfectly for the group. We had one night at our hotel restaurant (Urchig) but this place far exceeded that one in price and quality. The one thing I would have asked to change was communication between the chef and the waiters, as they didn’t have knowledge of our reservation or a large table ready.
