Hornox Alpine Grill Zermatt in Zermatt

The Hornox in Zermatt is for foodies (meat lovers and veggies) who are looking for a culinary experience where every course is captured photographically. Our visit to Hornox left us completely impressed and completely satisfied. I'm looking forward to nostalgically swiping through the photos on my iPhone in some time! The absolute highlight of my evening was the tomahawk steak, which was simply delicious. Perfectly prepared. Every “meat lover” will get their money’s worth here. But the starter, a beetroot salad with goat cheese, was also a culinary delight. The combination of refreshing beetroot and creamy cheese was simply great. For dessert I chose the burnt banana with chocolate, and I wasn't disappointed here either. It was the perfect end to my dining experience at Hornox. Particularly noteworthy is the diversity of the menu, which also delights veggies. My wife, who has high demands on vegetarian cuisine herself, was speechless by the selection. Thanks to the Hornox team!

An absolute recommendation. In addition to grilled delicacies for meat lovers, an entire page of the menu also features vegan dishes. We are not vegan but very curious and that was rewarded. The grilled pointed cabbage and the celery-based false duck breast were simply great. The salmon was also excellent - and in generous portions. And if you like something sweet at the end, a homemade chocolate sorbet or a grilled banana is just the thing. Everything was just right, the service was perfect and incredibly friendly. We will be happy to come back, it was a thoroughly successful evening. You can only recommend everything here.

We were at Hornox twice. Both times the food was incredibly tasty and beautifully prepared. The service was also always excellent. Hornox offers a lot of vegan dishes that are prepared with a lot of love.

Outrageously expensive for food of mediocre quality. 5 CHF for a bottle of tap water. Underwhelming vegan options. Slow service. A sandwich at Coop/Migros is a much better choice.

The service was friendly and timely, although we were there for an early dinner. The food portions were big, nicely presented but tasted a bit bland.

Possibly some of the best service we have had in Zermatt. The entrance makes you think you have walked in the wrong door. Vegan starters were great. Vegan entree was okay, vegetable sides did not compliment the meal and it all seemed overpriced. Steak was delicious but again the sides were just off. I would recommend the restaurant to people. The prices are about the same as a fine dining experience in Zermatt.

We went for my birthday dinner and would highly recommend! The restaurant had little birthday decorations on the table, it was cute and thoughtful. The food was amazing, the mushroom appetizers were my favorite! We had the tomahawk and seafood platter. The different sauces served with the steak were fantastic, especially the butter sauce. We’ll definitely be back!

Excellent food, drink and environment. Had dinner there all nights in Zermatt. Super fair price and exceptional crew (we were amazed with Mafalda and Antonella). Definitely will come back in future opportunities. In love with the city and with the restaurant.

I cannot put in words how well treated I was in this place. Shot out to Antonela and Mafalda, the two amazing waitresses who served us. I stayed in Zermatt for 3 nights and I had dinner there 3 times. By the way, the food is delicious!!!

Tasty vegan options, very good service and good atmosphere.

Good food, nice decoration but lack of quality service…we reserved through the Alpen Resort hotel next to the restaurant and they pretended that they never received our reservation. Thus, we came with a sleeping baby (totally quiet) in a stroller and they seemed quite bothered by it. Finally, we were amongst the first to order and we received our dish last and we had to ask for the bread that other customers received immediately… and it was not a busy evening for them.. the bad experience with service ruined our lovely last evening in Zermatt.

Food was great The only drawback is that it took longer to serve the girl's food than ours.

Extremely nice vegan options, was very pleased with the wide selection and originality of the dishes. Every course we ordered was so delicious, presentation was so pretty and the service also top notch. If ever in Zermatt again will definitely stop by!

The resort and this restaurant were great! While my ribs were slightly overcooked, I think the taste and quality of food were overally excellent! Service was great too. Keep up the good work!

What a super nice restaurant this is! We are both vegetarian and were very happy with the wide choice of dishes! The food was really delicious and the wine was also very good! And an extra star for the sweet Dutch girl who served us, she completed the evening!

Very high quality food and ambience. We had their pork and fish, ending with sorbet.

Very unique concept. Friendly to both vegan/vegetarians and meat eaters. Celebrated my husbands bday he’s an omnivore and I’m a vegetarian and enjoyed both our selections of food and a great bottle of red wine. Great ambiance and service was great as well.

Top service with good advice for food and drink to select. We order beef steaks and salad and red wine. They are all superb!

Loved this place! As a vegan I'm always apprehensive about restaurants that don't cater only to vegans but this place surpassed all expectations! We had all the vegan appetisers, chefs bowl, vegan burger, courgette and BBQ jackfruit, and seitan skewer. They also had a kids menu and the portions were very good. And the only place where I've seen six vegan desserts!

After arriving at the hotel - around 7 p.m. - we went to the Hornox restaurant for dinner. This restaurant is located in the hotel and the menu is a combination of extensive vegetarian dishes and a wide choice of meat dishes. Always from the grill. We had a delicious meal and the service was excellent. Good local wine suggestions!

Very good and interesting vegan menu options. Not just salad or burger, but really good other options. I wish there were more places like this with a good vegan menu.

We ordered the same fish twice. One was almost raw, one was too well done. Overall too expensive for what is offered.

The restaurant is very nice Lady in service was great and food was good, although my salmon was still raw inside! However, the heat in the main part of the restaurant, where the grill is located, was intense as soon as we entered the restaurant! We arrived at 6 and paid at 7. The heat became unbearable! Even the wine was far warmer than recommended. It was far too hot for us (in a short summer dress and short shorts) and we won't be coming back! If you still want to come, don't make a reservation in the main dining room!

Great to have vegan choices. Enjoyed our dinner, but disappointed with wine which was advertised as Chasse Spleen, but was a lesser wine of that chateau and wasn't all that good. Zermatt is expensive, but the vegan choices are a bit more affordable. Same throughout Switzerland

The best restaurant in the city! Tasty, nourishing and healthy!

Perfectly staged online presence. But the restaurant is not nearly as inviting as one might expect. Unfortunately, we didn't really feel comfortable here. The ambience is not harmonious enough. The starters are okay, but not very sophisticated or creatively prepared, as is the main course. However, the meat is grilled very well. The wine list has room for improvement. Friendly and attentive service.

Amazing place with great beef and veal choices. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere warm. The preparation time is medium to long but all the food is prepared now. It was difficult to find it but it worth the time to reach the place and every penny we spent. We will come back again as it was our best choice so far in Zermatt 👌

We had a family dinner and the service and food was spectacular! The appetizers were delicious. We had the mixed meat platter that it was very tasty and tender, so was the tomahawk that my nephew had. This restaurant is an excellent choice for good food and friendly atmosphere!

We had a great dining experience! Our waiter, who wore a vest with stylish tattoos, was attentive and fantastic to us from start till the end. The food was well grilled and savoury. However I do agree with one of the previous review where a female waitress seemed a little unfriendly, possibly because of our ethnicity and that we aren’t locals.

Nice concept where you choose your meat and its accompaniments. Vegetarians will also find what they are looking for there. The only downside: some cuts of meat are not Swiss...

Restaurant is not as cool as shown on the website. Someone cleverly took photos. The food is good. Staff very friendly. Many dishes for vegetarians too!

We would give it six stars if possible. This great restaurant has an interesting concept where they offer both vegan and non-vegan options. Mauro and Etzel are great hosts and make sure every guest has a fine dining experience. The team in the kitchen does a great job, serving great tasting food with a very appealing presentation. The wine list is excellent, with both local and international bottles. We had excellent Swiss wine here.

The service here was pretty bad (tattooed waiter). We had to ask twice just for our water and our aperitif, still took 45mins. Even our entrees where served before we even had a sip to drink. When we asked the waiter what was happening, he smiled and said it was because there were only 2 people in the kitchen??

We visited the restaurant because there were vegans and carnivores in a group. The burger was fantastic, as was the meat. The service was very entertaining and attentive. The only thing we unfortunately have to complain about is that we were moved to a high table even though we wanted to sit downstairs. And the tables below weren't occupied. For the menu with the grilled iceberg lettuce, more dressing/breading would be nice.

Hands down the best meal we had during our stay in Zermatt. There was fresh bread, in an insulated bag, on our table. It was served with olives and two different spreads. I ordered the filet and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. My husband ordered a ribeye but was served a t-bone. When we brought it to their attention they insisted on making the ribeye as well! We asked them not to but they insisted. It was a carnivore’s dream! The steaks were served with roasted veggies and baked potatoes.

We had a great time at Hornox. The welcome is warm, suitable for families and the food is delicious. We shared a vegetarian starter, eggplant hummus, absolutely divine. Cooking over a wood fire gives the eggplant a caramelized taste. For main courses, a rack of lamb cooked to perfection, tender and just too good. The spare ribs were caramelized to perfection and tender. For accompaniments, grilled vegetables and a menu of starchy foods of your choice. We feasted ! For children, a menu offering dishes that change from traditional restaurant dishes is also offered. Very kids friendly restaurant with a table set with family activities. Next to the restaurant, a room with lots of games for children. Depending on the age of the children, a barrier is missing to close the room on the entrance side of the hotel/restaurant. We didn't feel like leaving our almost 2 year old little one unsupervised (access to the stairs and other things in the hotel and restaurant). We will definitely return to this restaurant where we had a lot of fun.

Excellent meat. It's nice that meat lovers as well as vegetarians and vegans can eat in the same restaurant. It has something for everyone. We recommend. The restaurant is public and not just for hotel guests.

The food is really good. I love the BBQ pork rib so much. It’s very juicy and tender. Btw if you’re not White…. Well, you may be treated different. Just be careful. (It’s not just me who can feel it but also my friend who later came to talk with me about this too.)

Restaurant is beautiful. Service was absolutely 10/10. Actual vegan food wasn't great to be honest. Been travelling all around Switzerland the last week and there is not much choice at all for a vegan anywhere in Switzerland, I do really appreciate the choice in such a fine dining area but i really believe they can do better as all the other diner's eating there non vegan meals seemed to love their food. Again sorry for the negative review but appreciate the effort.

The staff was extremely professional and amazing. Restaurant was clean and organized and came with and amazing reputation. I Ordered the tomahawk steak and it was maybe the worst cut of meat I have eaten. This is my only tomahawk streak I have ever eaten so take that into account. Ordered it medium rare came medium to well done. Sides were fine. Just disappointed in the quality and preparation of the meat. The rest of the table ordered an addition 2 Steaks that they finished off no problem. Honestly just expected more when it comes to the quality of the food. But again this is one meal and should be taken into account.

If you are thinking about beef steak or even vegetarian food. This is No. 1 in Zermatt. The staff at the restaurant provide excellent service. They are very attentive to their customers... The steak is very good, soft, smooth, sweet... Paired with red wine, it goes very well... It's a great experience in zermatt... It's a restaurant you can't miss for sure. If you come to this city!!!

Recommended wholeheartedly. This restaurant is one of my personal "meat lover" favorites, a haven of good food, always worth a visit. The ambience is top. The large T-bone steak is pure enjoyment. The dessert is a sweet temptation (cheesecake brownie). The vegan dishes at the neighboring table looked very tasty. Great, keep it up!

A wonderful place for dinner. Perfect for Vegans and meat-eaters alike. I had the bittersweet salad which I could have had as a meal. The lamb chops were savory and the server recommended a syrah that paired perfectly. The waitstaff are informative and fun.
