LA Brea in Zürich

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavors at La Brea SoCal Tacos Restaurant. The flavors were unexpected and pleasantly surprised my taste buds. The only room for improvement I see is that more choice of sauces could be offered with the chips. The ambience in the restaurant was lively, which creates a good atmosphere, but also means that it can be quite noisy due to the high number of visitors.

Just great. You really feel the SoCal vibes in this place. Selection of dishes is OK, but there‘s surely something for everyone. If you‘re taking anything but tacos, I recommend you share! Portions are BIG.

We waited one hour and 15 minutes for our food.

Nice atmosphere and cool card. The cocktail was great! Unfortunately the vegetarian dishes are not good. The vegi mix platter disappointed us, the taste was bland and not well composed. Like “put all the colors on once.” The vegi burrito is served with sauce on top, so it has to be eaten with a knife and fork, questionable... The service was friendly, but a bit inattentive (for a half-full restaurant) We do not recommend it for vegetarians. Let's see if the meat dishes get another chance.

The four of us wanted to go out for something nice to eat. Unfortunately we were disappointed four times. The good reviews on Google are incomprehensible. Four different vegetarian/vegan menus and yet none of them were edible. The taste was a complete disaster. Our last hope was in a portion of churros and were disappointed by 4 sugary raw sticks for 12.-. The sauce left a lot to be desired and the long waiting times were enough to make me look for another restaurant

Once again super recommended! Excellent Sunday thanks to the very attentive and pleasant staff, delicious food and a very good atmosphere. Spot to repeat often!

Cool place, great food, easy atmosphere

We always enjoy coming here, but this last time we were a bit disappointed by the pancakes. They usually serve 3 but this time only 2. Also the Dulce de leche was not Dulce de leche, it was sweetened milk almost. ☹️ Service was fine as always 😉

Generally I love this place! But sometimes the food is better than other times. With this I mean that the meat is not always great. Sometimes it’s very good but other times, like yesterday, I found so much fat in both the barbacoa and the pollo asado. The pollo even had chicken skin in there it seemed… it feels like it’s a roulette, some orders have plain, good, tender meat, some have mainly fat and chewy substances. Not so nice. Maybe it depends on the chef, I don’t know. Just giving you my feedback and hope for improvement as I really like the place.

Probably the best Mexican place in Zurich! The portions are huge, especially for the burritos, and for two people you could easily get a starter and one main to share.

The food was average but it had a great children corner so we could spend two hours with our 2 year old and enjoy the meal.

The food is scarce and very expensive and the taste is less than normal. It only deserves one star and I won't come back after today

Overpriced like hell .. 9 CHF for tap water, are you serious? 18 CHF for a mojito 😰 also food was served too cold.. 3 persons and played almost 300 😵‍💫😵‍💫 never again

Very nice food. But 1.5 hours is too short for a dinner experience. Otherwise everything else was very nice. The Tacos were great and so was the lemonade.

Great tacos at fair prices. Pleasant ambience with a good vibe. Drinks (cocktails) are also reasonably priced for Zurich. -> FYI: It only gets full later in the evening. Generally good service, except for one employee who was “hushing around” at our table the whole time, which made us uncomfortable. As soon as we had finished eating, the plates were cleared away. Correction as of 3/7/23: You now only get 4 instead of 5 as before and for the same price. Definitely a star deduction.

I was once there for dinner and i didnt like it.. but the brunch is so good! tasty food, nice service, good mimosas and authentic menu. i give 4 of 5 stars because of the high prices

Good tacos! A little less flexible than other restaurants when it comes to the composition of the tacos. Somewhat few vegetarian and vegan variants.

As someone who grew up in LA I can confidently say this place is super disappointing. Food looks nice on instagram but tastes so incredibly bland. There many other places in Zurich where you can get better “Mexican” food… I would have told the waiter this instead of leaving a review but they didn’t ask so 🤷‍♀️ Second time I’ve been here, was hoping would be better than the first time but nah…

Hands down the best mexican food in Zurich. Would recommend the mixed tacos, dirty nachos, and for dessert the tres leches cake and apple chimichanga.

One of my favorite places for tacos in zurich, possibly the best. However, the dirty nachos were a bit disappointing. I would highly recommend the pollo asada, the in-n-out and the al pastor (if you like pineapple)

Delicious food, but it was a bit too expensive for what was offered... Ambiance is okay, unfortunately no hint of Mexico. A bit cheaper, it also gets 5 stars

A great experience! We were in Zurich for a few days and we decided to visit La brea for brunch. We fully enjoyed everything: the atmosphere sets the stage, the staff welcomes you warmly and they are all very friendly and helpful. But most of all, the food is amazing. We visited a lot of places around the city, but that was by far the tastiest and most delicious dishes we had. We totally reccomend La brea and we will definetely come back!

Not sure where the communication went wrong but if you get tacos to-go you will receive a box full of containers with each individual ingredient and a bunch of tasteless uncooked soft tortillas that will crumble in your hands when building the tacos. We were staying at a hotel so without access to an oven to grill the tortillas. We were expecting 5 nice already built tacos, but instead got a very messy DIY dinner. Very expensive for what you get.

Unfortunately, the tacos only look delicious, but they don't taste good. I only ate two. The rest didn't work and I even had Mogaen pain afterwards. And the fries were worse than ready-made fries from Aldi. Service and ambience is great, but that's it.

LA Brea has slowed down a lot since my last visit (in May). I'm pretty disappointed. This was one of my favorite brunch spots. The prices have increased quite a bit. Of course I understand that everything became more expensive. But the prices don't make sense in my opinion. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not right at all (anymore). We ordered 2 drinks, pancakes, burrito and scrambled eggs and bacon and paid just under CHF 80. Which is clearly too much. In addition, the pancakes had already gotten cold. I was then offered new pancakes, which I appreciated. The scrambled eggs and bacon only came with 2 pieces of bacon. Which is clearly not enough. The portions are generally very small. Plus point: freshly squeezed orange juice. The atmosphere is great and we received a friendly welcome. Will I take another look? No. Unfortunately, based on the criteria listed, I would not recommend this restaurant.

I enjoyed my evening at this restaurant. The people are really nice and friendly and the atmosphere is cozy , there is big table in a cozy corner or lot of table for 2 or 4 near windows or near the bar . The food was super tasty we couldn’t pick one specific tacos so we took the platter with 4 different tacos + side and they were all really good, it’s a lot of food for a reasonable price . Their cocktail were also good going nicely with the meal

Unfortunately it has diminished significantly. The map is a disaster. Far too complicated and inflexible. 8 small tacos for 70 francs? Cheese gratinated nachos with guacamole for 25 CHF? Sure, Zurich is expensive, but that's too much. It doesn't taste that good to justify the price. In addition, there used to be 5 tacos plus a side dish, but now there are only 4 tacos with a side dish, but the price has still been increased. A small Margherita cocktail for 18 CHF? You don't even pay that much in the best bars in Zurich and this is just a small Mexican restaurant. If the taste of the food and drinks was at least top-notch, you could grudgingly admit it, but that's not possible. It's better to go to another restaurant until the local owner comes down from his megalomania. Thank you and never again!

We were two families here for brunch. Overall, very nice reception and great atmosphere. The pre-order, as there was a larger group, worked out great. The service was ok. You have to like the brunch. Not all of the dishes convinced us. We found the avocado plate, burritos and the flautas ahogadas very tasty. OJuice also very good, coffee not exceptional. However, overall a very nice place and worth a visit.

Quite expensive. I got 3 mini tacos each cost more or less 8 CHF. Tasty but again, too expensive. Either lower the prices or increase the size of the tacos

Nice spot to eat some Mexican food. The staff is nice but not all of them speak German but it’s okay. Guacamole was a big portion and I enjoyed a lot. For the tacos we chose the one that you can combine multiple types and I have a problem that I can’t eat spicy but my friend loves spicy but he said he couldn’t do both the way that we wanted and at then end we received no spicy. She then added some spicy sauce but I think it should have the possibility to choose like this. Drinks were good too water a little bit expensive.

The service and atmosphere was amazing, but the tacos were super pricy and quite flavourless - most of the flavour came from the sauces - which were yummy! But I was expecting more

Actually very tasty food! However, portions too small, especially for the price. The pancakes were also cold (I only told them afterwards; I was just too hungry to return them). There was an apology from the waitress, but nothing more. Overall, the service was nice but extremely distant. The ambience is nice.

We've been to your place before (2/3 weeks ago) and apart from the service at the time, it was 1A. This time, among other things, the barbacoa tacos were super empty in comparison. Not very filled (the onions were also missing, as you can see in the picture)... It's a real shame when you've already paid so much money for it... We came back specifically for that reason and were a little disappointed this time. Still tastes great! The salsa verde is also super delicious. This time we also had great service!

This place was a great place in a busy city to relax and enjoy the amazing food and service. Everything was delicious. They were very helpful and made our brunch enjoyable.

Fun restaurants serving tacos - meals come with 5 tacos and a choice of side (rice, salad and some others...). They also do platters when you can get 4 different types (i recommend this, the fun of going to this place is to try lots of different types). The nachos are a great starter to share and the cocktails also good. We always enjoy a trip here - the menu has seen improvements recently and they seem to respond well to feedback. Staff also very friendly.

We were there for brunch and were very disappointed. The tacos, chicken wings and the breakfast burito were hardly seasoned and tasted of nothing. Only the sweet things like the churros and pancakes were good. The service wasn't particularly good either. Had to wait a long time to order even though the restaurant was only half full, waitress served the food with her hair in the food.

Executive summary: not excited about the place, food just ok, great drinks. Longer review: We came for dinner on a Friday night, around 8 pm, and it was busy as hell. We had a reservation, so we entered to get the attention of a waiter and be seated. This took quite a while, as all the staff was super busy running from one table to another. Finally someone came to attend to us and seated us outside. The atmosphere was great, both inside (the decor, the space, the furniture) and outside (large wooden tables and benches or smaller tables and chairs) and the buzz all around us was super enjoyable. The same waitress that seated us came back to drop off the menus, she seemed to mind we didn't speak German as she kept not switching in any other language, which is fine just unexpected. The other waitress that came to get our order, on the other hand, was super smiley and friendly. The wait for food wasn't as long as we would have expected given how busy the place was, we got started of nachos, margaritas, tacos and a shrimp tostada. The food: verdict is just OK. My pork belly mole tacos were not as tasty, the tacos were right and crunchy, but the pork was not juicy and there was very little mole sauce to really taste it. Side of papas bravas was better, the green sauce was nice and spicy. The shrimp tostada was bad, the tostada itself was super dry and tasteless, the shrimps were good but the condiments also very poor. The taste was not great. The side of Sweet corn cake was good, nothing special. The drinks were very good, they bring my rating up! My order of Mezcal margarita was top, super super happy with it. Same goes for the ginger margarita, both very delicious! We might come back to try out more tacos, a pity the menu only allows to mix 4 pre chosen tacos, instead of letting you mix 4 from the main menu. That would be nicer for first timers, to have a taste of your top choices and see which one you like best. Overall, not excited about the place.

The service was fast but poor, nobody was smiling at all. The music there was very loud rap blasting. So you basically needed to scream. The food was good except the side dish - dirty rice, the waiter told us it supposed to be fried rice - it was cooked rice with tomato paste.

Staff very friendly, we felt welcomed. Only thing was that the Tacos were very fast cold. You need to eat 5 Tacos fast otherwise its cold :-) Sadly we couldnt try the Lemon Meringue Pie. Hope we can have it next time

Honestly the worst brunch experience in Zurich. I asked for a recommendation and the waiter recommended hash browns. I asked specifically if the meat was beef or pork, because i don’t eat beef. He brought me the dish, but as suspected, it was beef! I then asked for my order to be replaced with pancakes with fried eggs. They brought my order with scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs. To to top it all off, when paying the hash browns were not removed from the receipt, 3rd mistake. Awful service and mediocre food. Never going back.

There are much better taccos restaurants in Zurich. The food is ok, but not amazing. The prices, on the other hand, are very high - especially in comparison to the portions... Our waiter was annoyed because we didn't understand the system at first (but didn't give us a menu in German), gave snippy answers and wasn't hospitable. The ambience would be nice, but the music was turned up so loud that people had to struggle to hear each other

We've been waiting for tacos for 70 minutes with 2 kids. The order was completely forgotten - the excuse was a bottle of tap water. Ambience great, food - no idea. Unfortunately that doesn't work with tacos! The manager apologized and drinks were on the house… Unfortunately I was unlucky.

Great Mexican restaurant that specializes primarily in tacos. We recommend the mixed platter where two people can try different types of tacos (The In-n-Out Taco is very tasty). Drinks also good. In summer you can eat comfortably outside on the neighborhood street and there is a quiet and pleasant atmosphere with all the wooden tables and lights. The staff was very friendly and took a lot of time to give explanations and recommendations. Toilets and restaurant modern and clean.

The Barabcoa Hashbrowns at brunch are incredible as is the apple chimichunga. Can't wait to go back and try more of the brunch menu. The tacos in the evening are also great.

Very tasty Mexican food and super nice service.

We asked the restaurant directly if there was still space and was told no. There would be no more free tables. But you could still book the free tables online. So we booked online and got a table without any problem. That doesn't make any sense at all. Service was ok, but you waited a long time for the food and drinks. Food was OK.

Completely overwhelmed in the kitchen and in the service. Waited for service to arrive, waited for drinks to arrive and waited even longer for the food...a visit to forget.

We discovered this restaurant and really wanted to eat there. The tacos were very successful and transported me to Tejuana with a Michelada. The Taco n-and-Out is highly recommended as is al Pastor. The sauces are excellent, the cocktails are tasty and the food is very tasty. we will certainly come back.

The food was fantastic! We tried a wide range of different tacos (Al Pastor, Barbacoa, etc.). I liked the Taco In'n'Out best. The memories of the west coast of the USA quickly came back to me. The service was also very attentive and extremely friendly. Brilliant resti, will of course recommend it!

4 of us took a plate of tacos -all of them were great, and all 4 side dishes. The salad was nothing to write home about, the other 3 were really good. The service was very good, friendly, knowledgeable and quick. Drink (spicy margarita) was yummy not too alcoholic to knock me out but not too watery for me to complain. I'm defo coming back

Ordering system seems complicated and the food arrived after a while and cold. Also, we ordered 3 platters for the table. but 2 arrived, adding to confusion. No plates were served. The service staff not attentive enough and had to be called actively to the table, although the restaurant wasn't busy on a Tuesday evening. Churros very mediocre and the quality not up to advertised standard of home made (definitely pre-cooked and only heated up). Tacos were tasty, but definitely overpriced (7 chf per one). The tap beer was also of a questionable quality as the smell of it wasn't particularly nice and there were some particles inside the glass of unknown origin.

A little expensive but it's well worth it though, because it's just awesome, delicious, and authentic dishes they serve.

Good, uncomplicated taco restaurant in the former Café Gloria with the characteristic round windows. The tacos and burritos are impressive in terms of taste and price. The chipotle baked beans are highly recommended as a side dish. The cocktails are also popular, and there are also a few Mexican beers on offer.

I've eaten there several times and have always been very satisfied. Very nice atmosphere and cozy furnishings. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The menu is diverse and I try a different dish every time. So far they have all been extremely tasty. There are also enough vegetarian and vegan dishes :)

We had a very good dinner. Food was excellent. Staff was very helpful. We would have appreciated smaller portions of tacos, maybe two tacos instead of 5. Highly recommended!

Food is okeish but not so fresh. Service a bit too long, but the waiter was friendly. Churros, very small portion for the price you pay….. so you leave the place not really satisfy which is a pity cause the vibe and staff are great.

AMAZING tacos and mexican food, topped with great drinks! They’ve got a vast collection of tacos with all kinds of meat and vegetarian, but also sharing platters which combine things like wings, tacos, burrito.. absolutely delicious! The drink collection is impressive! Full of margaritas and tequila based cocktails with a twist, such as aperol spritz with tequila. Normally, not a fan of margarita.. but here it was soooo worth it! Last but not least, the churros were delicious! They were melting in your mouth, served with salted caramel ice cream.. Update: tried all the sides and finally the baked beans were out of this world. Must try!

I have been there a total of 5 times now, which in itself is a recommendation. Generally speaking, you won't have a bad experience. However, my main issue lies in inconsistency of the restaurant. On expectedly busy days, there is plenty of service personal and they do a great job. Staff is friendly and very quick. On slow days or surprisingly busy days there are simply too few people. Drinks take long, food even longer. Waiters change tables as they scramble to get everyone. On busy days, the kitchen is staffed well and works like a charm. Delivering incredible fresh food and their drinks are strong and tasty. They even do a great lemonade. On slow days, it seemed my food was cold by the time it got to me or it was stringy and tough. My drinks were missing all taste apart from the burn of alcohol. Lemonade was basically just water with a slice of lemon. The atmosphere is home-y and definitely inspired, but the noise levels get almost unbearable for me. I reserved a quiet table when possible and it helped, but the noise is inescapable. As a neurodivergent person, I struggle with the lack of any ceiling sound treatment and the blaring loud repetitive music. I'd usually just go when it's not busy, but during those times the food and service is plain worse. My recommendation to the owner: Get the room acoustically treated - it's not that expensive. This also goes for the other restaurants like YardBird. It gets uncomfortably loud. Add at least one more staff in service and kitchen during quiet days. This way regular quality increases and surprises can be handled better.

Very nice staff, good, clear menu, but unfortunately the tacos tasted very bland. We tried 5 different tacos and none of them were convincing. The salsas were well seasoned but unfortunately almost tasteless.

Lovely people serving amazing food in a fun atmosphere with delicious margaritas-what more can you ask for?

We were a table of four, came in early before the restaurant was too full. We chose to sit inside rather than outside like the rest of the customers, so maybe we were overlooked. However, service took really long, we waited for about 45 minutes until we got our drinks, we were served by three different waitresses and waiters, there was some confusion with our order and we had to wait very long for the starters and then again for the main course, which we didn't even get at the same time. We didn't want to wait for dessert again, so we wanted to leave but no one came back to our table so we could pay. The food was good but sadly a bit cold due to the long wait. One of us had some issues later that night, which might be unrelated though. If you can only book a table for two hours, service needs to step up their game otherwise it feels very rushed and stressful.
