Malso Lokal in Bern

A restaurant that excludes guests just because they are different has no place in today's world. Too bad......I'll find something new elsewhere.

The Malso restaurant in Bern convinced us with a good brunch experience on a Saturday morning. The online reservation went smoothly and the modern ambience and the location right next to the train station invited you to linger. The food was tasty, but the portions were a bit small for my taste. Service was friendly but difficult to ask for the bill and refill water. Overall, our visit was pleasant and we would love to come back to try more delicacies.

Ups...a transformation has somehow gone wrong here ... When I saw the pictures from the pop-up period and of the lively team, I was delighted to be invited there for an aperitif by some friends. Somehow I was expecting a second easy going Berner "Turnhalle Garden" but located somewhere inside. But then this 'modern' restaurant without soul which could be in any city and looks like it was copy paste designed by a hip overpaid designer for a big chain, covered with a new brand logo to look young. Too bad, but this fits in with a lot of high commercial train station shopping centres. The food is ok, nothing special but fresh and lovingly prepared and the prices are fair.

Despite a reserved table and within opening hours, the Malso was not yet ready and chaired. Our friendly greetings were ignored and we were definitely not welcome. In addition, in the morning there is apparently only 'coffee' and nothing with it. We went somewhere else...

Liked locally. Unfortunately, long waiting times for orders. Waited too long for drinks.

Cool place, atmosphere. Very close to the train station. Not that crowded. Toys for the little guests are kindly brought to the table. Meat and vegetarian dishes - although I wasn't particularly impressed with the food... I recommend trying it out for yourself.

We would like to order the jog hourt with oat flakes, which was marked “Vegan possible” (with vegan logo). When we ordered, the waitress told us that this wouldn't be possible vegan because of the yoghurt... then why is it marked as "Vegan possible"? Should you eat dry oatmeal?! Rösti with a fried egg would also be a vegan option, “just the Rösti” (i.e. just Rösti) said the waitress. Which seemed a bit dry and very boring to us for 18.-. The vegan option is always just the dry and leftover stuff. Unfortunately, we received very burnt pancakes, which were replaced with a new portion after mentioning them.

Great cozy place, incredibly delicious food (especially risotto), very friendly staff, low prices for the center of Bern. I accidentally lost my gold ring here, and when I came two days later they gave it back to me with a smile! Highly recommended !!! 🌸🌟🌈🫶🏻

It seems partly uncoordinated. An overall concept is probably missing. Top service. Cocktails great Brunch great. (The unusual thing about it: you order several small dishes) trendy & comfortably furnished. The restaurant is a bit hidden near the Postpark at the train station. I recommend it to anyone.

Local is very nice. But food wasn't good. Asparagus was still woody and potatoes weren't even salted. And what's more, the drink is so expensive that you'd rather die of thirst.

Went for brunch last week. 3 sweet choices + 3 savory choices, extremely basic and made the day before, reheated with a waffle and a rösti. Each priced between 18 and 20.-. For the quantity, the quality and the few "vegan" choices (hypocritical to offer vegan bacon and at the same time offer the crepe with Nutella? Knowing that palm oil is the main cause of massive deforestation in several places , including the island of Borneo, the oldest forest in the world and second most important in terms of oxygen supply) Even the cappuccino (I thought it was really hard to miss that) was served cold. Summary: - a warm/cold waffle with some completely out of season fruits #figs - A rösti from the day before that was colder than lukewarm with reheated bacon (the egg was good nonetheless) - A syrup and a cappuccino (cold for the last one) - for a total of almost 60.- ... For between 70 and 80 you can have real brunch in Bern, with 10x more choice to eat. Even the service was hardly smiling. Too bad, I took my girlfriend there for her birthday given the ratings. Unfortunately, we will not return there. Greetings

Friendly but completely uncoordinated team. Forever a long wait, despite reservations and early attendance (approx. 3rd guest during lunchtime) we were no longer able to order the daily menu and were then served an alternative without warning. Instead of real bread, there was white toast with salad and soup. Noise level very high. The location near the main train station is great but I would still never come here again.

Not brunch in the classic sense: everything has to be ordered separately and separately. Food good, but the price/performance ratio is not right. It's a shame, I can't understand the many positive reviews.

Charming restaurant. Outing with friends in Bern. We decide to go eat at the local Malso (it's just behind the station). On the Saturday lunch menu, brunch. The dishes were delicious and the waitress was very friendly. This will become a recurring address on Bern for me.

First of all the owners already look like they wouldn’t give too much about hygiene & cleanliness. I was there last Friday and ordered the toasts with black bread, avocado & feta. Unfortunately I got sick & spent the whole weekend in my hotel bed. Can‘t recommend the place therefor, unless you‘re craving food poissioning.

The restaurant isn't fundamentally bad, but our expectations weren't met. Fancy an espresso martini. When ordering, the young man behind the bar said that he had never made this cocktail before. He was alone and apparently he hadn't been working there long. The martini was served to us in a water glass with ice cubes and a straw. We then explained to him that the cocktail didn't quite meet our expectations. We drank the martini out of decency and paid the 16.00, but we were already disappointed. We can't quite understand why an employee who obviously wasn't fully trained yet is running this restaurant on his own. An espresso martini is not an extremely demanding drink and in an emergency, Google could have helped. Unfortunately only 1 star.

The restaurant seems like an oasis, just around the corner from the hectic train station. The service is very attentive and courteous. The atmosphere is relaxed, inviting and invigorating. Gladly again.

Stylish furnishings, delicious drinks and friendly staff make Malso a really great place that you'll want to visit again and again. Price-performance ratio fits! The hot cider was a bit too watery for me and the background music was a bit too loud, otherwise completely satisfied and definitely recommended.

The restaurant is very tastefully and stylishly furnished. Food was good (especially the avocado toast) but portions tended to be a bit small, especially for the price. We had to wait a good half hour for our drink and had almost finished eating. We know it was busy but we would have liked it if the staff had apologized briefly. Unfortunately, we didn't seem very attentive to the conditions, as some things were missing from our order at first and we had to point them out ourselves. The staff seemed a bit annoyed with us afterwards, although we were never unfriendly. At the end the bar employee collected money from us (as far as we could only see at our table), he was very friendly and attentive. It almost seemed to us as if no one wanted to collect money from us. We all work in the catering industry ourselves and know what it can be like on a stressful day, but we would be happy to see a little more customer focus.

Price-performance ! Underground!!! Something like that has no place in the catering industry!!

Be it for eating or drinking, Malso is a good choice. The location next to the train station is also very practical. The personnel is very friendly and courteous.

Great service and very competent employees. Fair prices for the central location. The ambience is very convincing. I did some research and learned that the renovation was largely done by the owners and their friends, which is why I gave it 5 stars for such an effort.

I've never been to your place before, but I'm sorry for all the negative and one-star reviews because of the SVP thing. You don't deserve this. In a global pandemic that can only be broken through effective measures, I find it courageous and groundbreaking to cancel a meal by members of a party that is the only party that does not publicly and officially support vaccination, and is even anti-vaccine in their stance supports. Don't be discouraged! Better times will come again.

Great atmosphere and beautifully decorated restaurant with friendly service. The Morocco corner in particular invites you to linger longer and comfortably with good coffee.

I've been to the local Malso several times, as well as to the pop-up on Loryplatz. The food is well prepared and very tasty. Great taste and at fair prices. The service is always very nice. Also had a great evening on my 30th birthday. I would happily recommend it. 😊

Really great! I have rarely received such a warm welcome in a restaurant! Yes, you read that right... received! With heart! The cappuccinos were very tasty, the atmosphere was very pleasant and really warm! The many plants underline the feeling of being welcome! I'm writing this review while I'm sitting in the Malso, in contrast to the many 1-star distributors....... And chapeau for your attitude! That takes backbone and courage! If the innkeepers in Munich had been as courageous and far-sighted 100 years ago, the world would have been spared a lot... From now on I will “haunt” it every time I visit Bern 😉👍👍👍

Great restaurant in a central location - was over lunch as there was a wonderful menu (pumpkin lasagne) and a very rich, fresh salad. Dessert and especially the coffee were wonderful. The staff was very attentive - I'll be happy to come back the next time I visit Bern.

I've been to Malso several times. A beautifully decorated restaurant. The pop-up at Loryplatz is also great! The bad reviews from people who have never visited the restaurant, but rather based on negative press reports (apparently the owners did not want to hold a Christmas dinner for the SVP party - which is their right) should be prevented.
