Outback Lodge in Zürich

Very nicely located restaurant, with good Meat choises. We had Kangaroo and ribs, and both dishes were worth of every penny. I Will definitely return here when I'm next time in the neighborhood.

Having a drink at the Outback was always nice but it has changed. I went for lunch and was very disappointed about having to pay only with a credit card. Also, they have no Menu carte only with the phone. For these reasons I will not come back any more even though the food is ok. Service was also so,so it was better before. What a pity

The portion size seemed a bit on the smaller side. I recommend getting the pork belly starter, it tasted great!

The restaurant is cool and authentically decorated. It has a great outback atmosphere. The burgers were good but not special, I would choose something different from the menu next time. The waitress was annoying because she often asked if we needed anything else. Maybe she just wanted to show attention, but we found it disturbing.

I'll come there for a drink. Great ambience, nice decoration, good and cozy music, running candles to relax etc. What we have to learn today, they have a digital menu on the table. At first I had to make a bit of effort to find where to go, but you were able to show me how it worked and saw how great it was to have paid via the app practically while I was drinking the beer, without having to wait too long for service . You can go now. It is great.

Nice staff, delicious food and super fast service!

No complaints about the food - it was very tasty, from the starter to the dessert and including the cocktails. They're were only grown-ups which was great. Fun music from the PA. It was pretty full, as is expected on a Saturday night - a reservation is absolutely necessary. The staff was friendly and always there when needed, so there's definitely no shortage of servers and no complaints about that either. But I do have a beef about the overall experience. After many years we returned to the Outback last night, only to find that it had basically turned into yet another Swiss place where you're served by Germans - at least that's how it was where we were sitting. That bit was a little disappointing, as a big part of the positive experience at the Outback for me used to be feeling a good vibe from a native speaker staff and enjoying an Aussie atmosphere, while speaking English. It was a big part of the authenticity for me. But now, the signs inside the restaurant are all in German, the online menu is not consistently in English and the only "Aussie" meat they serve is kangaroo. Even the countries and places on the place mats that feature the map of Australia are written in German. So sadly, the authenticity has suffered over the years, but we still had a good dinner and good time. p.s. We are Swiss and Australian, we do live here and speak Swiss German, I have nothing against German staff, but I'd prefer English speaking staff here. I simply expected a different experience at the Outback Lodge, based on previous visits.

Update: After a complaint from me, we responded quickly and in detail. So I am revising my first post. The outback has a lot of fun to offer. It's great, especially with a group. In Winti I liked the restaurant even better (I think it was abandoned). I give the 5th star for the great support from Noëlle.

This is our favorite restaurant. Our whole family has been going for a long time. The interior is inviting. Very tasty food for every taste. For meat-eating gourmets, you can taste the exotic meat of Australian animals, and for vegetarians there are gorgeous salads. I recommend the salad with caramelized nuts and baked cheese, with the addition of pomegranate.

Ohhhh how cool. You now have really thick spareribs, much better than the previous ones. World class!

Whether it is a law or not a law regarding the obligation to accept cash is actually irrelevant. I consistently avoid such service providers because I don't want to be patronized and I want to decide for myself how I want to pay. To everyone who thinks cashless is "cool", the day will come when you will regret your ignorance and convenience!

What did you do to the original chicken wings? They went from great about a year ago to average at best.

The 4 of us were able to spend a lovely and very entertaining evening in the outback. Of course, the delicious food wasn't neglected either. I'm a huge fan of the chicken wings! Many thanks to Jörn and Alex for the very humorous and TOP service - best team!

It doesn't have much to do with the outback anymore. There is only kangaroo and otherwise only the vegi croco. It's a shame actually. I really liked being able to try zebra or wildebeest. Still good as a pub but I won't come back to eat

Guests do not need to go cashless. And we have survived the bacteria on the notes for over 100 years. I only visit restaurants or events that take cash and KK is an option! Furthermore, cash is still legally the official means of payment!! It's a shame. Food was very good.

Restaurant near the underpass of the historic center railway station (stadelhofen). It is a characteristic pub with a truly attractive atmosphere, in short, a place that transports. We got some Gluhwein to take away, very fast service!

Don't be put off by the recent negative reviews here. These are the people who read the Blick article and are now angry because cash is not accepted!! I think it's a good thing, I only pay with plastic anyway. Jörn and his team on site do a really great job, I can say that first hand. Much love for Outback Lodge <3 - a happy regular customer

Super great atmosphere, very nice service staff. The upstairs bar also has a cool selection of non-alcoholic drinks. For a pleasant evening, highly recommended.

Sad. I used to frequent the Outback for many years. Unfortunately a lot has changed, especially since renovations. I guess it’s their new business plan. Things removed from the meals, quality down, staff extremely nasty and rude, not friendly like in the past. Sad to say my friend and I will not be back.

Hello! The restaurant is very cute and cozy. The drinks are amazing as well. The Service, atrocious!!! We got served with an attitude and the whole evening, the waitress made mean comments about us. Just in general very VERY rude service. As said the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but i would’t recommend because of the service. We also got rushed out of the Restaurant 20 minutes before closing. The waitress bringing our drinks, even asked if we can finish in 10 minutes, as they were closing “soon” (30 minutes till closing time, but oh well). Again wouldn’t recommend cause the servers are RUDE!!!

The "Outback Lodge" was always *the* dining restaurant for my partner and I when we were in Zurich... Because of crocodile meat for her and beef tartare for me. Unfortunately, both are no longer served (according to the waiter, the import of crocodile meat is now banned (well, there's nothing you can do) and has been replaced by a vegan alternative 😵‍💫, and beef tartare was taken off the menu before he was hired , but he didn't know why either); So the photos of the menu here on Google Maps are out of date. In general, when we were studying the menu (which, by the way, you have to get it digitally as a website on your smartphone by scanning a QR code), we weren't informed about it and waited for some time until someone brought the menu to the table and only then were clarified) the feeling that you now really want to ride on the vegan wave. In our opinion, it just doesn't fit in an Australian restaurant. In the end, payment had to be made digitally via the website... So I'm just wondering why I can't order directly from the kitchen via the website and then pick up the food at the counter like in a pub. This would mean that there would no longer be any need for service staff and the question of tips would therefore be unnecessary. Well, yes, but it just doesn't make much sense for us to stop at the "Outback Lodge" on future stays in Zurich and we'll have to look for something else... What a shame ☹️

Cozy place, the music is not too loud so you can have a normal conversation. I don't know the food, I haven't tried anything.

A place to linger: extremely friendly staff & exquisite food at prices that are more than justified! If you want to experience something different in terms of gastronomy, you've come to the right place. Not just for homesick Australians!

The bar ‘sly grog’ is a major disappointment, mostly due to the service staff, but drinks also sucked.

As an Australian I was super disappointed with the service here. We went upstairs to the cocktail bar and the waiter was looking for 100 reasons why he couldn’t serve us. There were many seats outside but he didn’t want to offer this. In the end we sat outside but service was average because it’s difficult to admit a mistake. Unfortunately.

They have an app as menu - a beer is supposed to be 5 chf, but you have to actually go into details to realise it’s for the 2.5 dl variant, not a full glass, which is 9 chf. Honesty is good business, deception is not.

Love the new interior! Can I have some more, please. Good food, nice service. All in all, good overall package. I don't understand the fuss about "cashless". Since the pandemic, we have been paying for everything by card.

The atmosphere was good, but the burger was just ok, nothing to write home about. What was awesome though was the yogurt sauce and the wings. It's a good place if you are out for a quick bite.

Shockingly Poor Service at Outback Restaurant, Zurich Stadelhofen I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Outback Restaurant at Zurich Stadelhofen was so egregiously bad that I feel compelled to warn others. Having heard of the Outback's cozy ambiance and expecting a friendly Australian hospitality, my visit was instead marred by an encounter with the boss, whose attitude was nothing short of hostile. On a day when the weather invited outdoor dining, we were grudgingly told we could sit outside. Yet, that was the end of the hospitality, as we were left unattended for an excruciating half-hour, without so much as an acknowledgment or a menu. It seemed our patronage was an inconvenience rather than a valued business. The clear disdain for customer service was palpable and confounding. One goes to a restaurant to enjoy not just the food but the service and experience, all of which were absent during our visit. We left feeling disrespected and undervalued, with a tainted view of what should have been a pleasant outing. To the management: your guests' satisfaction should be a priority, not an afterthought. It is a disservice to the Outback name and the hospitality industry at large. Future patrons be advised: you may expect the Australian Outback's rugged beauty but prepare for a service desert at this establishment.

Friendly bar with an attractive menu. Correct prices and friendly service. Since, according to Barman, there are no menu cards in the restaurant, but the offer has to be uploaded via QR code, I had dinner elsewhere.

There is almost nothing for veggies. For the quality of what it is it is too expensive. There were a lot of drunk, loud guests which was extremely annoying. I won't come there anymore. As an animal lover, it was a relief for me with the exotic food menu...

Map only digital, Outback Killer only as planted food or disgusting cheap wings, no VAT compliant receipt without paper, expenses not deductible, I was here for the last time after over 17 years as a regular guest, after renovation. Suddenly they don't want cash anymore. It's a shame, it's a shame... I've left a few thousand here in the last few years...

In my opinion, Outback Lodge deserves 4 out of 5 stars. This restaurant offers an interesting mix of Australian and international cuisine. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The rustic ambience creates a cozy atmosphere. The service is friendly, if occasionally a little slow. One point that prevents a full 5-star rating could be the speed of the service. Still, Outback Lodge is a good choice if you're looking for a varied culinary experience.

Very great place where you can just drink two beers at the end of the day, add a few appetizers and you're good. Or you can go eat there, all you can eat chicken every Monday or simply enjoy Australian cuisine there. The staff is cool like the place.

Restaurant didn't accept cash! They referred to a pop up when scanning the menu via a bar code. Problem! I asked for a menu and got a restaurant tablet so I was not informed prior!
