Pension Gimmelwald in Lauterbrunnen

I love the rural style. Unbeatable location above the Lauterbrunen glacial valley and opposite the Jungfrau.

The Pension Gimmelwald is beautifully situated, host Sabine and the team are great. We're always happy to come back!

Great local beer and home cooked food. Looks like a lovely place to stay.

We only ate at the restaurant, and everything was incredible! Food, service, ambiance, and especially the beer! Could not recommend this restaurant enough.

We only enjoyed the restaurant (we didn't stay as guests) but it was a perfect experience. The fondue was superb, the drinks were amazing, and the service was great. Cozy vibes and fantastic views!

We ate at the restaurant only, but wished we'd stayed here rather than next door at the Mountain Hostel. Loved the atmosphere here, as well as the staff, and the fondue was really special. One of our favorite meals of our trip.

Best Pizza I had around here. If you don't come for the view you can just come for the pizza

Lovely, quiet and basic accommodation in an extraordinary beautiful location. Simple meals are wholesome and tasty. Hosts Sabine and David welcoming and helpful. Cozy bar and deck with a super view. Great access to trails, Mürren and schilthorn. A gem.

I last visited this place five years ago when my group and I were hiking through the area and stumbled upon this place. We decided to stop for a bit to get some drinks and food, and it did not disappoint! The patio has an incredible view of the mountains, the food was great, and the Schwarz Mönch beer, we all agreed, was one of, if not the best beer we had during our trip through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. So much so that every year I look it up to see if it's available to import, which to this day it is not.

Tucked away in between Lauterbrunnen and Murren. We made our way to the Bier garden just for a taste of the Schwarz Mönch beer. It did not disappoint and the view was amazing. Plus we had the chance to taste their freshly baked Apfel Kuchen. Well worth the trip!

Absolutely fantastic place to stop and get a drink or snack after hiking. We came on a rainy day and still had a wonderful time. We didn’t get a full view of the mountains but the service was great and people on the patio were so friendly.

Kitchen closed at 1500 ish! Perfect place for a tasty beer and some food!

Writing this while I'm here. Lovely place. Super beer, sweet server, all you could ask for. And the pricing is very fair. Very close to the station also. Unfortunately couldn't try the food as the kitchen was closed when we got here. Would definitely recommend this place.

We have been going to Gimmelwald for nearly 30 years, but this was our first time at the Pension. It is a lovely old building, with very nice staff, comfortable (if VERY creaky) beds, and a good breakfast. However, we thought it was extremely expensive (CHF 235 a night) for rooms with paper thin walls and shared bathrooms. We were woken repeatedly by crying children and people going back and forth to the bathroom. It is also right next to the Mountain Hostel, which sometimes has live, very loud music at night, so we didn't have the quiet mountain evening we are used to.

A very cozy and beautiful place in the mountains!!! Accessible only by cable car We went to them for the Black Monk beer, it's worth it!!! A must visit for beer lovers!!!

Did not stay at the Pension but stopped by a couple of times for a beer. The view is incredible and their local brewed beer the Schwarz Mönk was perfect. Not too heavy, just right on the alcohol content and refreshing after a walk. The pub also has a nice looking menu and I wish I could have stayed longer to try some of these.

Stop in for a SCHWARZMÖNCH. It's well worth it.

Dropped into the Pension Gimmelwald for a ‘Stange’ of the excellent black stuff ‘Schwarz Münch’, a dark lager with character named in honour of the imposing Schwarzmönch mountain across the valley.

Paradise place. Definitely one of our highlights in Switzerland. Super tidy and cozy and the atmosphere and view are simply gigantic. Sabine and her team are very hospitable and you feel totally comfortable.

The three of us stayed at the Pension Gimmelwald over the weekend. We slept in the “Esthers Guesthouse” opposite. Good thing we booked half board. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The hostess Sabine knows how to pamper guests. Always an open ear, a good tip (Rosenlaui glacier gorge) The guesthouse is furnished in a very traditional but very cozy way. The Black Monk (black beer) is just as much a part of the evening meal as the wonderful view on the terrace. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Will probably come back to continue to enjoy the hospitality and mountains.

This was an amazing find just a short walk from the cable car. We were unfortunately not able to have dinner as it was reservation only, but it looked amazing. The view from the seating area is unmatched and the local beer they serve (black monk) was delicious. Pre book for dinner if you are going to Grimmelwald or just turn up and enjoy the view and drinks.

Did not stay here (up the street). Wonderful beer garden with fantastic mtn views. Lunch was delicious.

We had specially planned dinner there. We were disappointed. We expected a great view and the three course meal. It was a simple salad, spatzel plate with some macaroni and was bland, and a two inch square of ice cream drizzled with choc and no view. The windows overlook an outdoor patio and beyond that is a view but could not be seen from inside. It was our most expensive meal on trip but the most forgettable. The people were friendly.

I would not give Pension Gimmelwald a 10/10 rating, but it was a very enjoyable stay nonetheless. Pros - the bed was comfortable and the hotel room itself provided everything I needed. - the shower was excellent - the location is perfect for hiking in the region Cons - my room was right next to the hotel restaurant, and the noise of music being played in the restaurant was loud to the point of being distracting at night. I’m glad I brought earplugs! - check-out is not possible until 8am, so keep that in mind when planning! I did not see this detail listed on the information document in my room, so I had to wait for a while before I could check out. - the wifi was spotty, but it is in the mountains! :)

Been here multiple times and every single time we had a wonderful experience here ! Their award winning beer was perfect, service was friendly and the view upstairs was breathtaking ! Would definitely recommend the Schwarz Monch (or) their beer sampler for the best experience. Also, a tip to get to the hotel if you are packing light, The walking trail from Mürren to Gimmelwald would lead you to this hotel and, that is one the most beautiful walking trails in Switzerland 🇨🇭. It is a downhill trail and an easy 30 min walk. (Of course there are other ways to get to the hotel, just my recommendation on the most scenic way to get here)

We enjoyed an amazing dinner here. Fixed menu made only for guests with reservations. Their award-winning beer is a must. Great atmosphere and amazing view.

I escaped from the nearby hostel into this refuge of peace and comfort. The guesthouse was more than helpful and spontaneously provided a room.
