Restaurant Schwägalp in Hundwil

There were four of us there. Gave hot cocoa and cake. Very tasty and served quickly. Our service is very friendly. Addendum one year later (3/25/24) We would have liked a little more friendliness and attention: You come in with your family, you are seen and there is neither a greeting nor a friendly smile. You don't feel welcome. There wasn't much going on; A friendly greeting doesn't cost much 🤦🏻‍♂️

Definitely weren’t wanted here. Tried to get some lunch but were ignored by the waitress. Had our coffees and left…I guess money is not important here??? Good for them!

Hello . I don't know what criteria the service is set under, but you can't have to wait 20 minutes for an order to be taken. In the meantime, other guests who arrived later were served. It can happen when it is very crowded and we understand that, but it gets worse from time to time.

Great restaurant. Ideal spot to eat if you are staying at the hotel. Ate several meals here and they were all fantastic.

No thanks, never recommended again The German language is difficult to understand by some of the service staff and you are immediately spoken to. Well-cooked hamburgers and burnt rolls, dry sweet potato fries and thawed Schlorzifladen would be better. Thank you for taking note of

So first of all I would like to say that the fondue was top notch in terms of taste and quality. Best Alpine cheese from the local cheese dairy. Unfortunately, the portions for the children were very small. This applies to fries/nuggets and schnitzel portions. It's almost never the case that we have to order a second portion for our children. But here it is. We were also often forgotten. E.g. Extra side dishes were forgotten to bring. Or extra bread was only brought when the cheese was already ready. A dessert was also received incorrectly. I felt that the staff wasn't attentive enough. In the future, I would like the staff to appear more relaxed and therefore friendlier. It has large and clean toilets.

Although it's open until 11 p.m., the kitchen closes at 9 p.m

Portions too small. Service is only noticeable once an hour and is then very rude to the guests. Never again, not recommended.

Hello guys, 😊 we had a wonderful, relaxing holiday and we ate and drank something delicious in the restaurant, the view was fabulous, it was really beautiful and everything was great, the service was friendly, fast, nice, polite and very clean and dogs are allowed come in too. You have to go there

One of my worst experience in terms of service.

Was there on Monday when the weather was beautiful. Unfortunately the terrace wasn't served (no tables or chairs outside), which was a shame and I would have liked to stay a while longer

Sadly had to visit this place for the third time now, when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, they did. There were a series of avalanches coming down from the mountain, so the police insisted that everybody should stay inside. We just had food outside on the terrasse 20’ ago, and we went to sit down in the indoors-section. Not even 1’ later we were greeted by an unmotivated waitress to pick up an order. We didn’t want anything, we just wanted to sit down and assess the situation a little bit (sadly, someone passed away due to the avalanches). The waitress didn’t seem to care and said we could only sit if we ordered something. Absolute disgrace, honestly. Someone just lost their life, and this waitress sends away people (who were customers 20’ ago), so people can have a coffee..*review from one year ago* -> Very disappointing, because the location and setting is amazing. The prices are not equivalent of what you‘re getting. I‘m mostly shocked about the staff, it‘s atrocious. Absolutely no interest and manners towards the customer. I suggest you bring your own lunch.

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the restaurant because the service was too overwhelmed, rude and demotivated and the description of the menu was unclear, indistinct and poorly described. Were here for the first and last time.

Food overpriced for what little you get, which isn't even good. The service taking the order was very distracted and unfriendly.

Even 1 star has no value at all - 100 stars is what the waitress Alexandra avoids. Racist, arogant and really cheeky. Something like that doesn't belong in service. She was totally overwhelmed and had no idea about her work when we told her we'd wait 15 minutes interested. Better 58 Fr on the beg and top service I wouldn't recommend this restaurant with the current staff to anyone.

Unfortunately the food was miserable. Venison peppers were tough, spaetzli were probably reheated several times and still weren't warm. The red cabbage is a floury cardboard. Maybe this restaurant is missing a chef??

Mini portion at a maximum price It was true a family reunion with over 160 people, some of whom had an overnight stay, the food would have been good but the portions were far too small, everyone was still hungry and we didn't get any follow-up service. Very questionable with such a budget (apero music mini menu without drinks). 70Fr😩

Today, August 19, 2023, we were in the self-service restaurant at around 12:15 p.m.: fries were good, the breaded schnitzel tasted stale, tough and wasn't really warm. A bad experience! Doesn't correspond at all to the reputation of the Schwagalp and the beautiful Säntis surroundings. The management hasn't had the issue of food and friendliness under control for a long time, which is a shame.

Nice terrace with self-service and service. Friendly staff. After a hike, it's exactly the place to stop and regenerate!

Unfortunately, very bad service. Was there with a friend on Friday June 16th, 2023. Sat about 20-25 there. I called the waitress about 5-7 times but was always ignored. When she complained to the guests in front of us, we left. It's a shame about the restaurant because there are no complaints about the food, every time the food is great.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend the restaurant. Visited as hotel guests for dinner with a three-course menu. Starters were delicious. Main passages underground. Rösti and pork fillet were fried to pieces and my wife's risotto was mush. The service is not appropriate for the quality of the hotel.

I can't understand the bad reviews. We ate here every evening during our stay (2 nights) and can't complain about anything: food, service, experience was great.

Sure, a mass restaurant that thrives on the fact that the cable car runs next door and a lot of guests visit the Säntis. When you're a German guest, you don't have the feeling that you're being really well looked after; you can feel the typical negative attitude of the Swiss towards "foreigners". When we wanted to pay with Swiss francs, the "nice" waitress explained to us very rudely that the money was all "old" and that she had instructions not to accept any old notes. So far so good, but I had my Swiss francs clearly visible in front of her and there were 3 old ones, but also 2 new 20s, next to the new tens and fifties. We could have easily settled the bill of around 20 francs with the new notes and if the waitress had then explained to us that these 3 notes were from the old series, we would have understood everything. But to insult us in such a rude and rude manner is not good hospitality. (Our comment that we had just bought cheese with these banknotes was simply brushed off) And my colleague was clearly informed that his change to euros would only be made in francs, which was even more surprising, since apparently the euro was the same A means of payment is taken, such as the franc. Dear Swiss, not only do we Germans pay a lot more because the Swiss cost level is more expensive for us, no, you are also arrogant and unhospitable towards the Germans. The service was very unfriendly (we were there with a baby and you could feel that babies weren't welcome.) The cake was still frozen inside and when we asked about the conditions, all we got was a stupid comment: "They wouldn't have eaten it." must!!". We live very close to Säntis and often go there with friends, but the service is usually unfriendly and we are almost ashamed of it as hosts. The price-performance ratio is not appropriate.

We didn't feel welcome 😟. I was there with my wife and my daughter. Wanted something to eat at 5:30 p.m. Unfortunately we didn't get a table. More than half the restaurant was empty. An hour later we were there again and asked if we could please eat something. Everything is already reserved. said the woman. Or there is something else at the Laterlibar. She said. The same tables were still unoccupied and we wanted to eat something nice at a table. You have to change something in your concept. A visit to Schwagalp should be an experience and not a disappointment and all guests should be welcome.

We've been here a few times for dinner. The food was always good and beautifully prepared, but we were always disappointed by the unfriendly service.

Ice cream was fine and beautifully prepared. I can highly recommend the Säntis IceTea! Staff seemed a bit stressed in the evening. Maybe they didn't expect to receive so many guests at this time, which was a bit of a shame. Ordering took a little longer, and the dessert and drinks were delivered very quickly. The staff was friendly and also offered blankets against the cold. Price was okay.

After a long walk in the snow, we enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere in the Schwägalp restaurant. We liked the modern yet appropriate decor and the careful selection of fresh flowers. The food was served quickly and was freshly prepared. The fresh homemade cakes are particularly recommended.

Very bad experience. The staff is very unfriendly, overwhelmed and rude. Even though the food is good, you don't feel comfortable in the restaurant because of the staff and you want to leave as quickly as possible. What a shame!

We had a great lunch in the restaurant. All the employees at our table were very nice and friendly. Either we were luckier than others or it's another problem. The food came to the table very quickly and was very tasty. I personally think the prices are reasonable. I can't find any negative point. Maybe because of the lack of snow, but I can't deduct a star for that 😉

Nice modern atmosphere. Always fresh flowers. A cozy stove that can be lit and comfortable seating invite you to linger. The bar is also invitingly designed. The menu offers a large selection and the dishes are well prepared. The portions correspond to the price. Each waiter is responsible for a different area, which makes ordering food and drinks sometimes difficult. If the food is brought and you want to order water again, this is not possible, you first have to wait for the right waiter - but it's quite laborious (but it's not worth deducting a star ;) ). There are many tables outside. In winter it is quite shady here in the "hole", but unfortunately I can't judge what it is like in summer.

I definitely cannot recommend the restaurant, the staff is unfriendly and overwhelmed. No star would fit better. There are also long waiting times.

The first time you visit you have to find the restaurant. It doesn't seem to be written on. You then stand in front of this huge building and don't know that this is supposed to be the Schwägalp restaurant. The interior of the restaurant has the charm of a motorway restaurant or a company canteen, even in the served area. We didn't find the staff particularly hospitable during our visit. But it was still within limits. What wasn't so great was that in the middle of taking our order, the service employee suddenly left without a word and only came back after about 3 minutes to take the rest of the order. The price-performance ratio is OK. Most of our dishes were good. However, the cheese maggrons disappointed us. You don't have to go to Schwägalp because of the restaurant.

Our service was very friendly, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the chef de service. He brought dessert to our table and was very unfriendly and annoyed. It's a shame, otherwise there's nothing to complain about.

Food was good, but with the fitness plate of carrots and cucumber salad without sauce, no bread was served with it. Unfortunately, the waiter was very unfriendly! When I asked for salad sauce and bread, an unfriendly murmur came back and no smile could be coaxed out of him. Too bad! !

Beautiful place but horrible waitress, a certain Sabine, didn't even say hello and made it clear to us that we were not welcome... too bad.

Very bad service, waiting times too long

Always nice and good food. Veal liver with rösti, my favorite.

We celebrated a 50th birthday with an overnight stay in the hotel. We were served very friendly. The celebration lasted until the early hours of the morning and the staff was helpful until the last minute. We were treated to a 4-course meal. The food is high quality and very tasty. The overnight stay was very pleasant. The rooms have comfortable mattresses and pleasant pillows. The blanket wasn't too warm. We had our breakfast in the Panorama Restaurant on the Säntis. Everything was to our satisfaction there too. All in all - 5 stars for our stay.

Eventhough it is only french fries and cordon bleu, they made it so delicious and it tastes so fresh. Super quality

A place where you can enjoy the mountains and eat well. The food is very fine. I love the barley soup though. The house iced tea is refreshing. If the weather is nice, you can also sit on the terrace. It's always busy but not loud. From the restaurant you have a view of the mountain.

Service friendly. Strawberries didn't taste like anything (probably imported from Spain), they're still available for CHF 9.00 - what a shame!!!

Very modern and pleasant homely atmosphere. Nice terrace. Very friendly staff. Very efficient digital ordering and invoicing process. Homemade nut croissants are sensational, big but airy!

Restaurant at the foot of the Säntis with a large outdoor space overlooking the mountain. High prices but excellent quality. Professional and friendly service. Try the freshly made Brownie cake with cream.

Always a pleasure to dine here. Good food, friendly service and generous seating. Actually it deserves 5 stars. I'm allowed something small. Once served, it is more than difficult to get in touch with their staff. A look to the left or right would be pleasant. A repeat order is then possible. But we'll be back.

Unfortunately, the staff is often stressed, irritable and unfriendly. Doesn't apply to everyone, but unfortunately it's mostly noticeable on various visits. As a guest, you also notice differences between the staff. The restaurant itself is very pretty and clean. However, that was the last time for me.

The food, the atmosphere and especially the staff were really great!

At first we were only there for an aperitif, which were very great drinks we created ourselves. We spontaneously decided to have a fondue chat, which turned out to be a great, unforgettable evening for us. The service was great, the waiters who served us were very friendly and even willing to joke. We young guests will remember this as a very nice experience and we would love to come back!

Overwhelmingly beautiful, every time on the Schwagalp. The hike to the Kronberg, the area, the enjoyment in the Schwagalp restaurant... you can eat it and take a bite. Even with snow flurries like today. Fantastic!!!👸🥂😘😘🍇

Catastrophe. If the others hadn't cared, I would have left straight away. It started with the choice of table. We wanted to sit on the bench at the back but the unfriendly service ladies seated us at the front without being interested in whether that would suit us. Then came the bread bag with the soup, which was thrown onto the table with real love. My incorrectly brought tea created little interest in bringing the right one. The icing on the cake was that one of us received the wrong menu, warmed in the microwave and when we complained there wasn't even an apology. Just a grim look. Very disappointing for a tourist attraction. If the restaurant didn't have the advantage of location, few would probably come.

Are often up here. The flawed recessions are incomprehensible. Food is delicious and service is good. Of course, the service is stressful for many visitors, but that's the case everywhere.

Service staff very unfriendly, people with disabilities are not served!!

I was up here with my bike yesterday (Saturday June 12, 2021 / 8:15 a.m.) and wanted to go for a drink. There were three people on the outside terrace! Self-service wasn't open yet! After about 15 minutes I left the terrace again without being able to place an order. I even went to the hallway to show that someone was outside. The service lady looked at me and I went back to my seat and continued to wait. What a shame🤔

The female waitresses were all unfriendly. No interest was shown when we arrived, we were literally ignored. Then we were told to sit in the lounge and wait until a table became available. Then a table became available and one of these ladies quickly ran over and put up a “Reserve” sign. Finally, space was made for us in the back room. The gentlemen serving (chef de service and a young gentleman, as well as two young ladies) were very friendly and accommodating. The food came quickly. The barley soup is recommended, as well as the tartare and the desserts.

The beer was good, but unfortunately the service was extremely rude.

Went for a walk in the Säntis area today and wanted some fine food. Unfortunately this was very disappointing. Fries with veal bratwurst and my wife veal bratwurst with bread. The veal sausage was only warmed up and not made on the grill as expected. My wife also waited 10 minutes for the bread, and the sausage was already cold by then. When the staff spoke to them, no one was interested, they didn't even listen and ran away. Bad service and very slow.

We come regularly to eat in the Schwagalp. The food is delayed. Of course, on peak days the service is overloaded. It's worth reserving a table.

The food was great and the waiting time was bearable, but the service was a disaster. Waitress throws cutlery on the table and the order is taken without any customer interest. Was our first and last visit - shame about the good food!

The thinner mountain air and the success of this restaurant are not good for the receptionist (not from Appenzeller). I understand that they are busy on a Sunday and that they do not accept reservations due to the high demand. Apparently only until 12:00 p.m. I wanted to reserve a table for 3 people for around 1:30 p.m. Then I was summarily, to put it in German, “dismissed”. I think, despite the great success, you could be more professional and friendly with customers and perhaps make a suggestion as to when you are welcome. We would have been flexible. It's a shame, I'll avoid the Schwagalp restaurant in the future.

Great view, service really friendly and fast and the food was super good and came very quickly. I think the prices are fair and I can recommend it

Very good restaurant, very good food, fair prices. We were guests on a day when everyone wanted to go to the Schwagalp. Everything was full to bursting. Nevertheless, the stressed but friendly staff easily found a table for us. The service was good, even extremely good for a day with so many guests. At this point a compliment to the entire restaurant team, which offers great service even at peak times.

Very pleasant atmosphere, fair prices and super friendly staff. The dog is allowed in too and the cocoa and cake are really great.

This particular restaurant has been spoiled for success. Too expensive, unfriendly and lackluster service.

Unfortunately, the service is exceptionally unfriendly and unprofessional (local people, mind you). When a waitress made a mistake, I was treated harshly by her instead of a proper apology. I have rarely experienced such behavior and that is why I will avoid this restaurant forever (for business and pleasure)

Were with you on April 20, 2019. I have never experienced such friendly staff. Everything was right. The food was great. My son's steak was so tender that you could mash it with your tongue. Come back.

Vegetable soup with diced vegetables. (Convinient) A teaspoon of freeze-dried vegetables in it.

Rarely have we experienced such friendly service as here and everyone spoke German. friendly, courteous, fast and everything with humor even though there were a lot of guests there. Even the smallest guests are in good hands here. Swiss cuisine is very good. I'll definitely come back.

The restaurant, which belongs to Säntis - the hotel, has a small but very decent menu and primarily focuses on regional cuisine with ingredients from the region. The service is very attentive, quick and polite. There is only a deduction for the atmosphere, as the room is huge and this creates a certain "hall atmosphere". Due to the fact that the restaurant is part of the hotel, a reservation is recommended, especially in the evening.
