Restaurant zur Sonne in Winterthur

It was a quiet night but I'm sure it's more uplifting on a busy night . Anyway, the fondue was grand, especially the one with boletes in it. Wine was so so but went for something simple. All in all, it was good and would eat here again. Service was good, they kindly didn't seem to mind too much that we only speak English, thanks for that 🙂

Supper restaurant, supper food, supper service

I had to pay 9 CHF for a side salad (leaf lettuce). 39 CHF for a small entrecote plus 9 CHF for the side salad. Service is very unfriendly.

Rösti no salt, taste lower segment. Pure disappointment! Never again

The ambience would actually be nice and cozy, BUT we were cold, there was a draft (the front door and a window in the hall were constantly open). The wooden bench was anything but comfortable, more of an "a..."cold wooden slab. Dear management: please change that, the way it is now, I can only advise everyone who asks me against it. What a pity!

Food excellent, service miserable, comments from the waiter, nerves and a statement that he doesn't think it's good if we pay separately, it doesn't work at all!!!

Today I was at the Christmas market in Winterthur again. I had a meal with my loved ones in the Restaurant zur Sonne, we were warmly welcomed and the service was very pleasant and courteous. We all had Alpine macaroni in the Appenzeller style, which was really tasty. The price performance is very good, everything is simply top, I can happily recommend it.

We had reserved a table for two. It was incredibly loud, the air was very bad and stuffy, you had to shout at each other to even be able to communicate. Disastrous atmosphere. Both waiters called us. When we asked for a quieter place, we were told there was nothing we could do there. So we decided to go, unfortunately we had to wait until the food came so that we could take it away, we paid the full price for it, which is everything else fine. The meat in our cordonbleu was dry and tough and both of us had the wrong sauce; my partner's cordonbleu was missing the cheese. We had to pay a whole 100 for this. We are disappointed.

Casual, rustic restaurant in the middle of Winterthur. Very fine venison slices with delicious side dishes! I can only recommend it😍 but the highlight in the sun is the staff, very courteous, well-positioned and super friendly service staff! Thank you very much, gladly again😍 When the restaurant is full it is quite loud. But it almost belongs to such a casual restaurant.

Food is great. That's where the positive review ends. Order received without sauce, Celine the lady on the phone with a very clear "not my problem" attitude. 0.0% sense of responsibility and very cheeky. How you can have a person like that answer the phone in the service sector is beyond me. She neither really listens nor is in any way interested in solving problems. After all, it's not your problem. At first she wanted to blame the delivery service, but the restaurant forgot. After 3 phone calls we are still at the same point. Never have to do that again, anyone who hires people like that definitely has no interest in having customers.

I liked the wild boar. Unfortunately the red cabbage was less because it was much too sweet and the sauce was also a bit watery. Everything except the meat seemed prepared and not freshly cooked. The service was good. All in all, I've eaten better, especially for the price. A reservation is definitely recommended.

The food (game) was delicious, the atmosphere was good, except for the volume, which was very high. I was a little disappointed with the service: without me saying anything, I was served half a portion of dessert, when I asked, the waitress said via YOU! 'Aha, you didn't want a small one' another waiter replied that I was a woman and wouldn't have eaten the large portion anyway. An apology that she misunderstood would have been enough for me. I don't like a reaction like that and then on a first-name basis. Otherwise the service was good.

The two of us enjoyed a Chinoise fondue in the sun. The meat was excellent, the side dishes and sauces were also very good. The quantity was more than enough for us, it would have fed 3 people. The service was very friendly, but not intrusive. So we were able to take our time, which is part of a fondue chinoise. I will definitely repeat this again, I really enjoyed it!

The rosti had too much oil, and very little salt...

So I ate the cheese spaetzle (probably 20 times this year) and I still love it :). Big compliments to the whole team

Every time we stay in Winterthur, we stop at the Sun Restaurant at least once. Today, as I have often done before, I enjoyed Züri-Gschnätzltes with Rösti! We particularly recommend the large selection of Röschti dishes as well as all Swiss specialties! After the delicious meal you can choose between many Emi Glace specialties or a very good digestive, preferably in the order one after the other! At our table we had an Appenzeller after the Röschti Säntis and I decided on a Sorbet Pruneau with Vieille Prune!

We go to the Sonne restaurant almost every week. The food is always great & the portions are very generous! In addition to the home-style classics, the menu also has various seasonal offerings. The beer also tastes good. The terrace is very cozy in summer. The staff is both professional and very friendly and always up for fun 😊

The food and service was very good. Sweet little terrace.

Even after years, the food is still at a high level. They even brought me an extra plate of mashed potatoes without charging me anything. Staff friendly and attentive.

Today I had lunch at the Sonne restaurant on Marktgasse in Winterthur. Even without a reservation, I got a great table in the shade on the beautiful and quiet terrace. From the very extensive menu I ordered the daily recommendation (beef starter, mashed potatoes and vegetables). The daily menu would have included soup, but it was a bit too warm for that. For the main course I was served the fresh, crusty bread that probably went with the soup. I enjoyed everything very much and I would like to thank you for the lovely lunchtime, the wonderful ambience, the great service and the fine food. PS: Unfortunately the plant-based table decorations went limp in the heat. At these temperatures, guests would certainly understand if there wasn't a plant on the table. There were also large pots of flowering oleander on the terrace.

The waiter was very unfriendly after we sat down and claimed that all tables were reserved but for once we were allowed to stay; After 2 hours when we left there were at least 3 tables unoccupied, so everything was reserved and really crowded🤨

Nice restaurant with deliciously prepared Swiss specialties. The rustic ambience and the very attentive and friendly service round things off.

Unfortunately a very bad experience for me, I ordered a chicken cordon bleu which was then served raw on one side. When I let it go back to the kitchen, my plate was simply put back in the oven and then served to me again. This time it was raw again.... When my plate was put in the oven for the third time, along with the fries and garnish, I just wanted a new one because the quality simply isn't there at this price This was then kindly brought to me. When I then said I wasn't prepared to pay for this dish because raw chicken isn't something to be trifled with, the lady in charge of the service said they would do it now but I should please stop visiting the restaurant and that the chicken was just "one was little raw" However, general service was very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately a bad experience for me.

Service was overwhelmed on New Year's Day. We had to wait a very long time to be greeted/serviced and to receive any refills of food. My food was inedible(!) and since the service only asked if everything was good after more than an hour, nothing could be improved. No apology was made or any measures were taken to give me something to eat. The blame was placed on me and I should have come forward earlier. Absolutely bland and boring cheese spaetzle that probably didn't have any real cheese in it. Several people at the table confirmed. Worst meal of all of 2022, the restaurant was a complete disappointment, I had to leave the restaurant hungry and still spent almost 100.

Good home-style restaurant in the heart of the old town. Attentive and warm service, there was also a great surprise for my birthday! It can get loud in the restaurant when the room is full, but for me that's part of it and doesn't bother me much. The food tasted excellent, the portions were generous, my stomach almost burst… I would love to come back.

The sun is a new discovery. I'll definitely come back. The food - I had Rösti - was excellent, the staff was very nice and it is also very cozy there. It was decorated for Christmas. In addition, the relationship between price and performance is right. See you again soon.

Spontaneous visit to the restaurant with traditional Swiss dishes. According to its own statement, the restaurant is the second oldest restaurant in Winterthur. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food we treated ourselves to was celery soup, followed by hash browns and meatloaf with mashed potatoes. All very, very tasty! Would love to come back. Ate Chinoise with a group of 14 people. 56fr seems a lot, but it is more than reasonable, especially since a freshly prepared mixed salad was included. Meat selection: beef, veal, pork, chicken and venison. The side dishes of rice and fries were plentiful. The sauces tasted good, only the curry was a little thin. There were bowls of freshly cut fruit and cucumbers, pearl onions and corn on the cob. Our waitress was an absolute CRAZER! Always attentive, super friendly, didn't mix up or forget anything, even with our bulk orders. A service specialist that you don't often find anymore. THANKS!

Great service from A-Z!!! The food is delicious and the portions are more than generous! The service was courteous and really refreshingly nice! To top it all off, the boss personally ran after us halfway through Winti because I forgot my backpack! Thank you very much dear Sonne team, we will be back as fans of yours!

Very good restaurant, more than does justice to the long Travern history with the team. They resist visitors, are particularly attentive and extremely child-friendly. For example, when we arrived, they discovered that we had a child and before we reached the table there was a children's cup with tubes and drawing utensils. So you can really only unstake it.

Varied menu with unusual offers. It's a shame the service was so inattentive: we didn't get a drink, didn't ask for coffee/dessert, put the bill on the table without asking and didn't appreciate individual payments (we then had to add up our items ourselves). Hospitality can still be worked on...

This is a great place. We had guests from Germany and made reservations. To our great delight, the terrace was set. The service is customer oriented. A large jug of syrup came automatically because we came with a lot of children. And the food was delicious as always. Price performance is right - except for the mixed salad. We'll definitely come back. Even with Swiss friends.

Somehow it's special that as a Zurich resident you somehow avoid Winterthur and that's why we went to Winterthur and chose a nice restaurant on the internet - seen from the outside -, made a reservation and went there on Sunday. Of course, in Winterthur it is not possible to drive to various restaurants with your own car and park directly in front of them. So first into a nearby parking garage and then walk through the beautiful old town, which you didn't know before - to your shame - because it is really very beautiful, the old town of Winterthur. When we arrived at the Restaurant zur Sonne, we received a very friendly welcome and noticed that despite all the other restaurants around, it was pleasantly full. We were able to choose a table and as soon as we sat down we were handed the cards. The selection really isn't that big, but luckily it's filled with "normal" dishes and not any kind of shikimiki stuff. First I ordered a celery soup, then a mixed salad and then the veal cordon bleu with fried potatoes, which you definitely don't find much in restaurants anymore. Without exception, the food was really excellent! Very nicely prepared and really more than enough! We were always offered breaks and we could have taken more time, but we didn't want to because we were really hungry and could definitely satisfy it. The service is extremely attentive, really friendly and definitely not intrusive. Since we had arrived a little late, we were already at the end of lunchtime, but were not pressured in any way to finally move forward. It was really a very pleasant stay there and everything was very nicely furnished, really nice in keeping with the style of the house and on the side there is another small hall, which is also very stylish. All in all, highly recommended, even if, as already written, you can't drive directly to the restaurant in your own car and have to get there on foot. But it was more than worth it!

In my opinion the best swiss kitchen in Winterthur. Their Spätzli and Röstj are absolutely amazing. The portion sizes are huge, which is typical for swiss restaurants, so prepare an empty stomach. The prices are fair as well. So definitely a must visit in Winterthur.
