Ross-Stall in Zermatt

We waited 1 hour 40 minutes for the food. The staff is aware of the long waiting times. The staff was inexperienced and unprofessional. Example: When the wine dripped while pouring, it was cleaned with a finger. Communication in English and German is only possible with difficulty. French went well. The two young people were at least very hard working and very friendly, which cannot be said about the restaurant management. She seemed to be monitoring the goings-on in the restaurant from the bar. This gave us an uncomfortable feeling. The meat was soaked and floating in the Cafe de Paris. The top quality of the meat was only moderately highlighted. The salad and the wine foam soup were good. Fries could be better, hands down. Anyone with a larger build will want to stretch after the visit, as our seats were cramped and the table was quite small. Conclusion: Price-performance ratio not given and we forego another visit to the Ross stable.

Extremely unfriendly lady at reception, I can't recommend the restaurant at all! We left the restaurant without ordering.

It’s perfect today is my day 8 in Switzerland and this was the best meal so far, everything is soooooo good! spaghetti was so delicious, the pork chop cheese fondue was so so good just the right taste we all have enjoyed the meal very much, wanted to book for another night before we leave Zermatt but unfortunately they are closed on Sundays

Super fine little restaurant! Top quality meat and the owner and staff are excellent and nice. As one screams into the forest, it screams back.

I have never been treated with such little respect! I am appalled by the rudeness of (i presume) the lady owner. We didn't book, but they accepted my son and me at a table close to the exit. On the left table nobody was sitting. I had laid my jacket on the chair close to me. The lady came and spoke to me in a very rude manner.. something like: "hey ooh, put the jacket on the hanger!" I thought it was rude but, laughed it of.. also the guests at the other table looked at me with sympathy. Then she came back with one menu only and took the light away from our table and put it on another table, thus I kindly asked, if we were not receiving a light.. she then tapped my shoulder with disrespect and told me to calm down and be patient!! I was scandalized and wondered why she would touch me. I took my son and our jackets and left immediately. A very bad and humiliating experience.. With those prices the least to expect is respect and service for the guests!!

If the “lady” of the house had known that I would have enjoyed eating Entrecote Cafe de Paris and drinking a fine wine with it! Would I have been given a table then? Staff absolutely not. Nobody needs the boss's arbitrariness. That was it for me with the Rosstal.

An absolute insider tip in Zermatt. After a long search, we ended up in the horse stables by chance for dinner. We reserved in advance, which turned out to be wise. The staff and the boss were very friendly, attentive and warm. The food was simply fantastic and the atmosphere was unique. The icing on the cake was the Vieille Prune donated by the hostess😋We will definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit it again on another stay in Zermatt. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening

The food, the service and the ambience were simply great. Four of us had dinner with our neighbors and everyone thought it was great. I can only recommend the restaurant and it is 100% worth a visit. The price-performance ratio was also perfect. We can only recommend the Rossstall.

It seems that the menu has changed from before the coronavirus. The guidebook said that we could eat raclette, but we didn't. The prices are a little high, so it might be a good place if you want to eat meat dishes for a reasonable price.

Great place with good food and service

The taste is wonderful, the meat is of the best quality and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. A slightly longer wait until the food is served but it's worth it!

We were rudely turned away by the extremely unfriendly hostess despite having a reservation. We even showed her our call log, to which she shrugged and basically said “not my problem”. It’s not easy to find a place to have dinner in Zermatt without a reservation, so this caused a major inconvenience for our group.

Originally furnished and good cuisine

The food was delicious, the boss and service were very friendly and helpful.

On the recommendation of the hotel concierge, our group dined here on our last night in Zermatt. The restaurant is a charmingly renovated horse stable, hence the name. Although the staff did not speak much English, everyone was friendly and went the extra mile to understand our orders. The steak entrecôte and rack of lamb were locally sourced and excellent! The waitress recommended the cafe de Paris sauce, and it was perfect to dip our steak, vegetables, fries and even spaghetti in! The wine list is impressive for a small restaurant, and we were offered a complimentary glass of homemade brandy at the end of the meal. We highly recommend Ross-Stall for anyone looking for an authentic, enjoyable meal in Zermatt!

Amazing place. If you looking for good meat, great service and perfect wine this is the place. Swiss typical chinose has to be tried.

Here, gastronomy is practiced according to old grain. Very friendly and fast service. Language difficulties solved quickly and easily. Very, very tasty, even eaten twice in the same week. Absolutely great. Finally, the whole bottle of “Vieille Prune” was placed on the table. Here the guest is king, but he should behave like that.

Fabulous! The restaurant is located halfway between Zermatt and Furi. We ate 2 rosti, one with bacon and the other with sausage and onion sauce. Very good! The attention was also fantastic 🥰

It couldn't be better! Everything perfect from service to food. The meat is incredible - you can tell the in-house butcher is behind it. Furnishings are very comfortable and with great attention to detail.

The restaurant is really lovely and cozy. It's run by a local and quite traditional. I had the Schnitzel which tasted great and came really close to a original Wiener Schnitzel. I was a bit disappointed by the Fries which were a bit dry, but maybe I just got unlucky. All in all I highly recommend this Restaurant.

One of those difficult posts. Clear map. But vegetarians won't get their money's worth here. The food was good, period. Staff: the two ladies in service were friendly and quick. The lady of the house was exactly the opposite. Short hello upon arrival, not a word when leaving the house. She brought the main course without saying a word. What's that supposed to mean? Hospitality is probably a foreign word there. When I read other posts, it probably depends on the lady's form on the day. The house was full. I don't know who will go there a second time. Maybe warmly welcomed regular guests. But I definitely won't get to that. There are plenty of other restaurants in Zermatt with very friendly staff, whether they are the boss or not.

Great food, friendly service, close to main train station but on a quiet cul de sac. Yummy innovation: sliced breaded cutlets dipped into cheese fondue. Owner, a Zermatt native, was interesting to talk to.

Were there for the second time and it was just great. The boss was absolutely friendly and so was the staff. Starter and the fondue... simply top 👍🏻😋. Will stop there again on our next visit to Zermatt. Def recommended 😊

It takes about 1 hour for the food to arrive (starter) It takes the same amount of time until the main course arrives. After about 2 hours of waiting, the meal and drinks for e.g. 3 people costs around 200 Chf. The staff is nice though 😁

Overpriced prices. Waited over an hour for the starter. Then another hour or more until the main course. Worst food I've ever had in a restaurant. You eat even better in the canteen! Service staff was friendly.

That evening everything just worked! This beautiful restaurant was the perfect choice for our anniversary. Very inviting, attentive and fast-working service, great menu and wine list, wooden-rustic but super nicely furnished with attention to detail and as a point on the i, the Fondue Chinoise and everything that goes with it! All of our wishes were exceeded - we will never forget this evening, thank you very much!

Per Zufall sind wir vor zwei Jahren auf dieses Restaurant gestossen und haben uns sofort mit der Wirtin angefreundet. Sensationelles frisches Fleisch direkt aus der Metzgerei liebevoll und perfekt zubereitet. Tolle Weinkarte und Moët Champagner :)

Die Spezialität des Hauses, Entrecôte "Café de Paris" im Pfännli war der Hit und ein Traum. Sehr gute Fleischqualität und der Service top. Wir kommen wieder!

We arrived without reservation with a child of four and a half years old, the manager did not want to put two tables together.... and when we asked how long we had to wait we were given the time of 9 p.m. it was 6:20 p.m., the person knew full well that at 9 p.m. with a child of that age, we were not going to come back.... TO BE ABSOLUTELY AVOID!!

Nous sommes arrivés sans réservation avec un enfant de quatre ans et demi, la responsable n’a pas voulu mettre deux tables ensemble.... et quand on a demandé combien de temps il fallait attendre on nous a donné l’heure de 21 heures il était 18h20, la personne savait pertinemment qu’à 21 heures avec un enfant de cet âge là, nous n’allions pas revenir.... À ÉVITER absolument!!

We are very excited! The food was very tasty. We had Entrecote Cafe du Paris and the Veal Wienerschnitzel. Accompanied with an open Pinot noir. 😋 The service was friendly and accommodating. Our order came pretty quickly. The ambience is typically Swiss - rustic, charming with cozy pop music. We will come back! 😊

Beautiful little restaurant. The staff very friendly and warm. There were four of us and we got a table straight away. The card is great. We waited about 20 minutes for the food. The food tasted very good.

We were in the Ross stable three times. The first two times in the last two winters and we were always happy back then. This time there are five of us. The starter, a Valais platter, was very tasty. The main courses were disappointing for a meat specialty restaurant. The three Wienerschnitzel would be neither crispy nor airy, as a real Wienerschnitzel should be. The veal steak was not tender. The Spaghetti Olio with Tiger Prawns was okay. The fries were good; the open Pinot Noir was excellent. The service was friendly but slow and not attentive. We had to wait around 45' for the main course. Another note about the chairs in the main room: quite uncomfortable for long periods of sitting - without the back cushions unsuitable for a longer dinner. Overall, not enough for a meat specialty restaurant. There are much better alternatives in Zermatt.

Der Rosstall ist wirklich ein top Fleisch Restaurant, wir hatten das Fondue Rosstall und es war super! Das Fleisch hatte top Qualität und auch die Beilagen inkl. Sossen waren alles sehr lecker.Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Die Weinauswahl war nicht riesig aber sehr sehr gut! Das Beste ist die Chefin, eine unterhaltsame und liebenswerte Person, sie hat sich so Zeit genommen um mit allen Gästen persönlich zu sprechen. Man merkt dass sie eine gebohrene Gastgeberin ist. Wir haben uns hier sehr wohl gefühlt und werden bei unserem nächsten Besuch in Zermatt sicher wieder hier essen. Eine Reservierung ist sehr zum Empfehlen! Anders als in den meisten Restaurants in Zermatt, werden hier die Tische nur einmal pro Abend vermietet, das macht das Ganze zusätzlich noch viel entspannter!Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist super.

Kurz und bündig: Die Musik ist zwar authentisch aber für meinen Geschmack schrecklich. Aber die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Essen der Hammer! Sowohl das Lamm als auch das Entrecote aus der Schweiz waren spitze. Der Wein war auch super. Das Ambiente ist urchig schweizerisch. Die Chefin, Frau Bayard, hat ihren Laden im Griff! Das Restaurant liegt neben dem Bahnhof.

Excellent service, food is good but my Schnitzel could have been crispier (breading was soft, almost mushy on the one side). Nice selection of wines. What I didn't like was the fine dining setting and atmosphere doesn't really match the menu (Schnitzel-fondue-Cordon Bleu etc). Feels a bit confused to me.

Tucked away in a side street near the Zermatt Station you could easily miss this delightful restaurant, which would be a shame. We chose Rosstall as the venue for dinner on the first evening of a weeklong stay in Zermatt and were charmed by the rustic and homey atmosphere, helped along by our first snowfall of the holiday. Serving local specialities, we treated ourselves to a selection of shaved cheeses and dried meats, followed by a rich and creamy fondue. Reasonably priced (for Zermatt), this is definitely a winner.

Exceptionally comfortable and tactful service in the traditional Swiss atmosphere. We family enjoyed the cheese-fondue the last night during our trip. Really loved it.
