Sonnenberg in Zürich

Excellent experience again! Friendly welcome, attentive, well-informed service, excellent food, all around a very nice experience in a unique atmosphere!

We were in the Sonnenberg restaurant, today on Easter Day, a group of 15 people. The location is beautiful, the food is wonderful and the staff is fantastic! The waiters Antonio and Donato were incredibly courteous and attentive. Bravi!

Best fillet tips of my life with champagne you can't miss!! I wanted to stop eating because the portion was really generous but I just couldn't stop. Price-performance ratio = ABSOLUTELY justified! Service = very attentive and I felt very comfortable.

There were two of us and we had the Pasta Sonnenberg and the 3-course surprise menu. From arrival to departure we were served and accompanied by Nicolas in a very friendly and professional manner. The food was excellent and definitely worth the price, and the recommended wine pairing was very appropriate. The impressive view over Zurich and the lake rounded off the evening perfectly. We would like to come again!

The atmosphere was amazing. The views from the restaurant are breathtaking. I went during snowfall and it was absolutely beautiful. The wait staff was great and very friendly. The food was not as good as I expected based on other reviews and the price point. Two of my dishes were quite salty but lacked other seasonings. The dessert, however, was tasty and well balanced. My recommendation would be to go for the views and ambience but pick a simple meal without much expectation and plan to eat somewhere else later.

A wonderful place for a fine meal with a wonderful view of Zurich and the lake.

We were a bit surprised that the kitchen of a restaurant in this price range would make such mistakes. The pulpo, like the beef chunks, was very tough and the lobster definitely lacked flavor. Otherwise the food was OK. All in all, this has little to do with gourmet cuisine. But the service was very good. Apart from the fact that he first placed us right next to the smoking lounge, the smell of which permeates the entire restaurant. The view of the city is of course fantastic there, which is why I'd love to come back for a drink in the summer, but probably not for food anymore.

Unfortunately the ice cream wasn't good

The ice cream was terrible!! Full of pieces of ice (cold chain was broken). Only one waiter was really friendly. At that price you would wish for something different.

This restaurant was once good - unfortunately, since the change, the kitchen and service have deteriorated significantly. The fantastic view remains, but is not enough to make you forget the inadequate service, the over-salty cuisine and the over-salted bill, which is a shame

The view is really impressive but the food is very mediocre. Dessert was a little better, but two out of three main courses were very mediocre (Carbonara - meat was hard, fatty and inedible, chanterelles as a vegetarian option were really just a bowl of chanterelles with nothing else, neither sauce nor anything else, at CHF40). But the view still makes it worthwhile

Mark and his team are the best and have helped the Sonnenberg regain its former glory, great atmosphere and a fantastic service and kitchen team. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Great view, nice terrace. The welcome was not very friendly. It was nice that we got an aperitif even though we arrived before opening time. The food was very good, just a little carelessly presented on the plate. With one exception, the service was very disengaged. Ultimately, overall the price-performance ratio wasn't right for us.

There used to be a lot in Sonnenberg back in Jacky’s time. Recently, after years, I was there again, spontaneously stayed first for coffee and cake and then for dinner. Still the place to be for me! Wonderful view, super friendly and competent staff, top service and excellent food. I will definitely stop by again soon to enjoy and feel good. A big thank you to the whole team ☀️

From the terrace you can enjoy a wide view over Zurich and Lake Zurich. It is especially recommended to eat outside. The service was very good and so was the food. The prices are rather high, but justified for the corresponding quality.

The food was excellent. The fish and lobster were delicious and we really liked the location and the view. It was a wonderful summer evening and so the guests were only served outside. Since I had only made a reservation two days before and asked for a table by the window, I should have been informed that the table would be set outside given the wonderful weather that was expected. Husband and son are currently suffering enormously from their pollen allergies and so we don't want to eat outside at the moment. We were somewhat reluctantly offered the first table inside, which we gladly accepted. Our waiter was very friendly. However, the wine was only poured with the last bites of the starter and the coffee arrived just in time for the last forkful of the dessert. Afterwards, no one from the staff was able to speak for us. Neither to order another drink or coffee nor to pay. I stood up several times to draw someone's attention to us, which I only managed on the 5th attempt. So this evening ended with the feeling that I had become uninteresting as a guest. The income has been recorded.

Still a really great location! Jacky's veal chop is not forgotten. Unique view through the round panes. Staff competent, classic but not fake and also discreetly keen to have fun. Easily 10 out of 10. Nice wines and the lounge is worth a visit. Not cheap but worth the money. Much joy

They recommended the Sonnenberg restaurant for excellent food and views of all of Zurich. The team is very nice and very professional. I let myself recommend the dishes and they were all delicious. Super recommend.

When we arrived at 17.07, they said that the dessert section was closed. The dining area will open at 18.00, but they all said there was a reservation. While we were there, we had a coffee. The waiters were attentive, but it was a bit stuffy inside. I didn't like the atmosphere. I'll go somewhere else instead

Sonnenberg is a stunning restaurant and experience that captivates the senses. When you walk up, you are struck by the beautiful estate and sweeping views. Then you proceed through a magnificent meal with attentive service. Highly recommend!

We celebrated our anniversary in the Sonnenberg restaurant. The location, the ambience, the staff and of course the food were at the highest level! I can highly recommend the eggplant parmigiana and the Sonnenberg veal cutlet!! PS: The cocktails are amazing. :)

We had a birthday party with 70 people in August and everything went wonderfully. The preliminary discussions with Mr. Wyss were very pleasant and every wish was fulfilled. At the party the staff was incredibly friendly, put together and attentive. The food was excellent. We would celebrate our festival again at Sonnenberg at any time. Many thanks to the entire Sonnenberg team.

Creme de la Creme...at its finest

I was able to celebrate my birthday in Sonnenberg on Saturday because my friend invited me there. The view was beautiful and the terrace was also beautifully decorated. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was very tasty and to top it all off, I also received a small surprise cake including a sparkler for my birthday, which I really appreciated. The only point where I deducted a star was the somewhat long waiting time to order and then the food (especially between the starter and the main course). Thank you for the wonderful birthday.

Was invited here for lunch. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the view of the lake and the city. Enjoyable soup, salad and pasta.

Magnificent view of Zurich and the lake. Friendly, Italian-style service. The octopus was exquisite, the guinea fowl breast was actually a leg but also delicious. Worth a visit for tourists but also for Zurich residents.

Drama Part 2: Update from my visit on September 3rd, 2021 (see text below). I just discovered that Mr. Rizzo has banned me from entering the hotel because of my 3-point rating on Tripadvisor. Quote: "You won't get a table anymore either". That's why I reduced my rating here from 2 to 1 star. There is probably no need for further comment on such behavior on the part of the boss. ********* Rizzo definitely couldn't live up to expectations during our visit. The quality of the food is average at best. Far from the level of the Stapferstube and absolutely not a culinary highlight. And of course even further away from Jacky Donatz's cooking skills in Sonnenberg. So even under Rizzo's management, the Sonnenberg remains just a very expensive excursion spot, but with a great terrace and a unique view of Zurich and the lake. The rather overwhelmed service staff and the dressed-up receptionist fit in quite well with the very modest standard of the Sonnenberg. Although they tried hard, they were unprofessional and without any warmth or host mentality! If it weren't for the great location, I would definitely not visit the Sonnenberg again.

We asked to put umbrellas down, so we could see the lake after the sunset and waiters refused to do so. What the point to go to this restaurant if you can't enjoy the view ?

There is still room for improvement. The service was a bit stressed when we arrived at the restaurant after climbing the stairs from the last stop of the tram, soaking wet in the rain. Well at least the wet stuff was taken away from us and taken to the cloakroom. The first course was then on the table even though the aperitif was still half on the table. There was no such real wine advice, but the wine was good and was then refilled as it should be. The view of Zurich is simply gigantic. You look over the vineyards and the usual things begin underneath. That's quite a pound. From what we ate, the spaghetti was really good, the tiramisu was also to die for...everything else was ok but unfortunately not so much that you could say it was anything special. There would definitely have been substance there. The cook didn't show up either. He doesn't have to be ashamed. It was okay. I think if the team were a little more fun it would be much better and the chef would have an easier time bringing his classics to 120%. Actually you have to come back.
