Mountain restaurant above Mürren with beautiful views and a large terrace. The selection on the menu is rather small, but the dishes are surprisingly different and varied. The bread dumplings with vegetables (in the vegetarian version without bacon) tasted good and were beautifully presented. The “Rehhüftli in a nut coating” was disappointing for the rather high price. Better trained service staff would improve the experience.

My husband and I drove from Zurich to the Gasthof Sonnenberg for a ski weekend in February. We had an absolutely fantastic trip. The house in the middle of the beautiful valley above Mürren is spectacularly located and offers a unique view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. The double room with balcony was clean and equipped with a modern bathroom. I would particularly like to highlight the service and the gastronomy: the young team does an excellent job and are hosts with heart. Friendly, attentive and always with a smile - even when the hut is full. The Austrian chef serves a small, fine menu with delicacies from the region, prepared in exceptional quality! We really enjoyed both the vegetarian food and the Mürren beef with good red wine. Keep it up!

The bread dumplings and grandmother's apricot cake were recommended to us and we were not disappointed! Both were super tasty and left me wanting more. The service was very attentive and pleasant! We are pleased about the enrichment of Mürren's gastronomy!

We ate there twice and each time it was very, very good. The service was very friendly and the view of Mönch and Jungfrau is breathtaking. When we are in Mürren again we will definitely stop by again.

Mürren and the Schilthorn are my favorite ski area, I've been coming to the Sonnenberg terrace for years! Had a portion of fries for Sfr. 14.- which we returned twice and were still not edible! Prices like in St. Moritz, a pork schnitzel for Sfr. 49.- not of veal. I would reconsider the prices of the card and would like better quality! So the guests come once and never again.

We have known the restaurant for over 20 years and have already experienced several new tenants. The staff is friendly, but not very attentive. It was very cold in the restaurant (insufficient heating?). Prices like in a Gault Millau restaurant (pork cordon bleu, fries and vegetables CHF 49.00!). Goulash soup 5 dl CHF 19.00 etc. Nothing more for us, unfortunately.

The waiting time for the food (1 hour) was too long. Please inform guests of this when ordering and not after they have been waiting forever. A number of guests simply paid for the drinks and left.

The two young people in service were very friendly, well-positioned and tried very hard. Even though the two of them worked constantly and quickly, they were constantly belittled and almost shouted at by the owner/chef de service. Unfortunately, the orders were not received promptly. But the food was very good.

While walking under a full moon, we stopped for a drink. Warm, very human and professional welcome. Special mention for the glass of apple juice (pressed with Simmental)

You had to order 3 times before you finally got the food... everything delicious on the menu was removed.

Christoph cooked for us excellently - despite the off-season (not a given) AND the chef being unavailable due to illness - and is a phenomenal host. The location of the Sonnenberg has always been great - combined with these culinary skills and this hospitality it is an experience! We'll be back with pleasure.

After a few older reviews regarding the “unfriendliness of the boss”, we, 3 people, a large dog, booked a double room and a single room (a little unsafe) - it was only for one night... Our very short-term booking via email was surprisingly friendly and uncomplicated, was dry after less than 2 hours and gave us hope... When we arrived, we were welcomed very, very friendly, almost like a family. The location of the hotel, the view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are simply sensational! And then the kitchen… 6 out of five stars for that alone! The rooms are very clean and quite new, I haven't slept so well in a long time. Finally for us: a complete success! We are sure: it won't be the last time we'll be there!

Yesterday we wanted to stop at the Sonnenberg restaurant. Meet closed doors 🙈unbelievably closed in the most beautiful hiking weather. It looked like there was no business anymore, there was no clutter, there were no flowers in this magnificent house. The beautiful Sonnenberg is on the brink again. We then went to Die Suppenalp and of course it was great again and there were tons of guests.

5 ⭐ for excellent Wienerschnitzel, heavenly dumplings and Kaiserschmarrn as well as very fine vegan burgers! The service was warm and professional. Not to be forgotten are the breathtaking views, the beer selection and the goats and sheep to pet. Many thanks to the great crew - we'll be back!

A wonderful experience. Excellent food and friendly service, under new management. Delicious and creative Austrian and Swiss cuisine. Very family friendly. Excellent options also for Vegans and vegetarians. Inside and outside dining. Small petting zoo with goats and sheep. All-around very enjoyable. Worth the hike up from Mürren or the hike down from Allmendhubel.

Wonderful place to stay at! A short walk from Almendhubel down to the hotel/restaurant, with fantastic views, weather-permitting. The staff was very friendly, the food delicious, and the prices really reasonable. Very quiet in the night as there is nothing else there but 2 goats and a sheep and nature.

We stopped at this restaurant for lunch while hiking (the North Face Trail), and we were amazed by the view!! The food was one of the best we ever had! We had Wienerschnitzel and Semmelknödel mit Ei und Speck and everything tasted great! Together with a Jungfrau beer (beer of this region) and an Apfelschorle, we had for about 70 CHF.

The waitresses were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful; however, the owner was yelling at the waitresses and was not treating them well. I am rating this one star in hopes that the owner will see and the working conditions will get better for the waitresses.

The journey to Pension Sonnenberg is spectacular and worthwhile entirely on foot or partly with cable car support. The appropriate peace and relaxation in the middle of nature awaits you there when the cable car is completed. The new team is hardworking and friendly. The chef is extremely ambitious and professional. Individual dishes such as Alpine herb salad, veggie burgers and vegetable rice rounded off the wonderful hiking days. The Wienerschnitzl is a culinary delight.

We were at Sonnenberg this afternoon and there were quite a few guests there. The two young people in service were very friendly, well-positioned and tried very hard to serve all guests promptly. Although the two of them worked really constantly and quickly, they were constantly cleaned up by the owner/chef de service, without a break... When my husband wanted to relieve the waiter - who felt sorry for us - and because of the long waiting time, he went straight to the When he wanted to order something at the bar, he was also approached in an unfriendly manner. The food was ok, the waiting time was long, the atmosphere was icy...

Professional and nice service specialist but grumpy owner/Chef de Service: We were just about to leave because the restaurant was very busy when a VERY nice man showed us to a round table at the back. He tried very hard to offer us a place. He was then rudely reprimanded in front of us by his boss (all empty seats must be full first). Very unprofessional and no way to treat his employees.

Very nice welcome and friendly, fast service. Great food (Älplermaggroni). The price is justified, the quality is excellent, and the quantity is right too. I'll be back!

Stopped in while hiking on a chilly rainy day. The vegetable soup, goulash and service were all excellent.

Stunning location in a quiet valley above Mürren, giving an intimate view of Jungfraujoch, this is a quaint spot to rest your feet after long days out. Babs who runs the place is a wonderful host - energetic and quick to respond to your needs. It’s a bit of a walk from transit stations after 6 (when cable cars close) but it is well worth it for the feeling of being the only ones nestled amongst the mountains. Rooms and facilities are clean, and food has a homemade cozy feel.

We were warmly welcomed and served. The food was great, the view was really wonderful. Price-performance ratio was good. The schnitzel was awesome. Lovely again.

My family had a bad day hiking. Half way through it started to rain and hail heavily with thunder and lightning. We were all soaked and our 3 years old daughter was feeling very cold. We ran into someone who worked at this hotel on the way and he suggested us to walk to this hotel to warm up. He was sooooooo nice that he gave his umbrella to us and he was walking in the rain. It was a 10 mins walk and when we got there everyone there helped us!!!! They gave us a dry towel for my daughter and hot chocolate and cookies and eggs. We stayed there for about 20 mins until the rains stopped and we all warmed up. These people saved our lives!!! And we appreciated what they have done to help us!!! THANK YOU!!

Great food! The homemade cake is a sensation and highly recommended. The view from the terrace is breathtakingly beautiful! What impressed me most was how they focus on quality and regionality. There is also a great wine selection. Super delicious, fresh and regional cuisine. Friendly service and great hospitality.

Unfortunately, a comment was published under the false name Bartek Karkanowski. These are 2 employees from the 2021/2022 winter season who worked at the Hotel Sonnenberg. Their work was highly valued by the manager of the house and was paid accordingly. For the couple, it was the first winter season in a mountain restaurant and they didn't know 2 or 3 things due to a lack of information on their part, which led to discussions at the end of the season. Despite everything, it is not appropriate to communicate like this on a public portal and the outstanding name of the couple This puts hotels and kitchens in a bad light. A visit to the Hotel Sonnenberg will be worth it to convince yourself of the great hospitality, the great cuisine and the cozy, quiet atmosphere

Good price/performance ratio, good cuisine, place to linger

Couldn't order a children's portion because I'm an adult!!! Only possible after discussion and surcharge!! I find it very unfortunate. There are also adults who don't like a whole potion. Were there for the second time and now definitely the last time!!!! It's a shame that you can't respond to the guests even after corona! And you've probably never heard of food waist!!

Nice food selection at reasonable prices. The lady that served us with red hair was somewhat of not a great host, quick service but unfortunately very bad at a social level. Complete rip off and unfriendly staff. Would not visit again. Don’t waste your time and money by going there. 21CHF for a small coffee and soft drink. On the online menu this should have cost 10.50CHF. They are thieves and will steal your money. They are dishonest and they should be ashamed to work in the service industry.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. WORST RESTAURANT IN SWITZERLAND. THEY HATE ANYONE ENGLISH SPEAKING. Possibly the worst restaurant experience I've ever encountered through much international travel. Arrived at midday and the place was very quiet with only two tables taken. The manager did not greet us and was very aggressive. Ordered a black coffee and soft drink, the bill was CHF 21.50. No service offering for menus.

Great mountain restaurant with very friendly and attentive service. Fine salads, the menu is somewhat limited. There is live music in the late afternoon, which creates a relaxed atmosphere. Card payment possible. It's about a 20-minute walk to Mürren. A stopover here is definitely worth it.

People who see it experience healing as it looks from the Middle Ages, which has been designated as a cultural heritage site by UNESCO.

Arrived in town with no reservations. Got off the cable car and walked to the tourist office. All that was available was Hotel Sonnenberg. After a bit of a walk we arrived. Dinner was authentic Fondue and bread. Very tasty and filling plus heavy on the Kirsch. Beds were together with strangers, which was fine and a shared restroom. Very nice and clean. Friendly staff and great view of the alps.

Although it is beautifully located with lots of sun, it is a difficult option if there are a lot of people there. Can't keep up at the front or back. The boss was very irritable and unfortunately very slow when serving. But to enjoy a little sun, it is recommended.

Wonderful guesthouse to relax, eat and spend one or more nights in one of the beautiful rooms in a fantastic setting. The guesthouse is run by a very friendly and warm team. What should be highlighted is the cuisine, which pampers guests with regional and fresh dishes of a high standard.

Mountain hotel and restaurant a bit above the town of Mürren. We visited during the summer and had dinner and stayed for one night. Overall the place seemed too expensive for what you get. Dinner was all right, home cooking style, the rooms are functional but basic. Breakfast buffet was on the minimalistic side - on a Sunday morning I would have expected more than just one kind of plain bread for example. The biggest plus was certainly the views of the mountains around, and the feeling of being out in nature.

The host was very rude. We asked for drinks at the bar and we were yelled at...saying this is a restaurant and not a McDonald’s! We took our stuff and walked out. Although we’re exhausted and needed that cold beer.

We had lunch at the restaurant after hiking the mountain trail from Lauterbrunnen. Food was great and the service, top notch! Try the nice käsekuchen (savory cheesecake) and the really juicy pouletbrust fitnessteller (fitness plate with chicken breast). Make sure you save some space for the yummy apfelstrudel!

The restaurant is located directly on the ski slopes in winter. We went to Sonnenberg for lunch. As in previous years, we were disappointed with the service. Very long waiting times for ordering. It can take up to an hour for the food to arrive. Numbers also take a long time. The food (when it is served) is fine.

Da auf dem Allmendhubel die Terrasse ausgebucht war, versuchten wir es in dieser Pension, wo wir im Laufe der letzten 30 Jahre immer wieder zu unserer Zufriedenheit eingekehrt waren. Aber am heutigen Berchtoldstag ging in diesem Haus gar nichts mehr. Zwar wurden die von uns georderten beiden Getränke rasch serviert. Der bestellte, an sich einfach und rasch zuzubereitende Käsekuchen mit Salat wurde dagegen trotz mehrmaligem Nachfragen auch nach über 30 Minuten noch immer nicht serviert, weshalb wir bezahlten und gingen. Immerhin entschuldigte sich der uns bedienende, Hochdeutsch sprechende Herr noch bei uns. Aber dennoch schadet eine solche Situation dem guten Ruf des Hauses. Wir werden uns jedenfalls im Rahmen unserer Ski- oder Schlittenfahrten gut überlegen, ob wir es künftig nicht lieber in einem der verschiedenen anderen Restaurants (Suppenalp, Gimmelen etc.) versuchen sollen.

We were walking the blumental trail and stumbled upon this cafe. About 30 minutes of slow walking from Allmenhubel.We were not hungry, or thirsty, just wanted to sit and soak up the unbelievable views.Got ice cream and coffee. Service is so, so, but it didnt matter, we were there for views.

The place is very charming, very well located for a short walk between the village of Mürren and the top of the funicular. We had traditional Rösti and cheese crust meals there, everything was very good. The staff is friendly but only speaks Swiss German.

Cozy accommodation, great location, hospitable and sensational cuisine. A real insider tip. We will be back.

Very courteous service, you almost feel like you are part of a family. Super fine cuisine, the specialties are amazing!!! The prices for room and board are also great for a young family. Nice and quiet and relaxing in a beautiful mountain landscape, you don't notice any of the Japanese tour groups up here because the Sonnenberg is a little outside the village. But it is also very easy to reach from Allmendhubel.

The hotel is very clean and well-located (i.e on wanderweg and close to cable car, also reachable by car) but still in a peaceful and quiet corner. There are various hikes around the hotel - for different difficulty levels. <br/>Our room had a beautiful view and the sounds of cow bells ... <br/>Since we stayed overnight we had our dinner and breakfast at the restaurant as well. Portions are generous, and the food was delicious. Not to mention the small chat with the very friendly cook. <br/>The owner was also super friendly and nice. She helped us for choosing our next hike - the storm was on the way and the choice of the hike can get pretty difficult. <br/>We had a lovely time - good food, friendly owner with great hospitality, amazing landscape and great price
