Nice but old theater with old seats not comfortable

Very bad funeral, we waited far too long until we could order. Service staff gossiped. Tap water has to be paid for and was not at all digestible.

A nice restaurant where you can't go wrong.

The most unfriendly an rude service we have been in Zurich of the last 10years. We decided to take our customers to this restaurant and we were all treated as we owed a favour. Never again.

Excellent cuisine, great service with a smile, wine list very good. We recommend.

I always enjoy coming to concerts and shows here as I only live a 3-minute walk next door.

This dance event by the children was just great again

Very nice atmosphere, large selection of drinks and snacks. Unfortunately the service isn't very attentive or friendly - but I would still come back, as anyone can have a bad day :)

We drank coffee, ate tappas and sandwiches. One star deducted because my small glass of water with my coffee cost 1.- extra, which I find cheeky even for Zurich.

I took part in an event in the hall. I wasn't even in the restaurant.

For me, Pizza 10 is a restaurant that provides good service as a service provider. Motivated employees, gluten-free pizza for my girlfriend, who has a lot of trouble finding a gluten-free pizza that is also edible. I can't promise you that you will be addressed by the service like I was. It should be noted that certain locations have a franchise agreement. I mention this because there may be differences. Personally, I order one for myself/us, pick it up and it's almost there on time straight away. This feedback applies to the location in Seebach. I can enthusiastically recommend this.

Traditional event location with good acoustics and a pleasant size. The Volkshaus is a rather small venue. Has many different rooms. We went to Stefan Verra's show (body language not changed). The show was great 💪🏻👍🏻

The reception was extremely friendly and I definitely recommend making a reservation, as many guests before me were looking for a place in vain. Luckily we had a reserved table and even though my companion was late, I never felt rushed or stressed, but on the contrary, very comfortable waiting. The ambience was appealing with pleasant lighting and air quality. We decided on the Swiss Prime sirloin steak with spinach and Züri fries, plus a bottle of water, tea and a drink (approx. 135 CHF in total). Overall, the food was very good, although the sauce for the beef could have been a little less and the herb butter was rather bitter as I think it was burnt, which somewhat masked the taste of the excellent meat. However, the spinach was outstanding and the Züri Fries turned out to be conventional French fries. It would have been appreciated to have been asked about our meat preferences in advance, although the steak was perfect for us. We were also not asked about our satisfaction after the meal. Despite these small suggestions for improvement, we will definitely come back because the overall package was just right.

The audio system could be better

The location is right next to the Volkshaus and is therefore ideal for having something to drink or eat before the event. The room is large with a certain charm. The service was ok, if there was a bit of a smile, it would even be good. A reservation is recommended. Admission to the restaurant part is only possible from 6 p.m. If you come earlier you have to wait to see what you can do in the bar at the front of the restaurant.

We went there for dinner, four of us before heading to a birthday party. Great atmosphere, Volkshaus is an institution. The special on the menu, Kalbsbraten prepared at the table was a highlight.

We didn't go to the restaurant, we went to a ballet. I thought it was good that there were a lot of guards to lead you to the place. The chairs were comfortable. Too bad no armrest. It was a nice evening.

The biggest + of this restaurant is definitely the location and the Moulin Rouge-theatre vibe. Style: 10/10 Food quality is great, but definitely overpriced for their tiny portions - even if the composition is aesthetically pleasing. Service was disappointing. 'Did the job' of serving you in a classy restaurant but definitely not happy to do it and one could feel it. But obviously that was one person...I'd only return for the location.

The food at the Volkshaus was sensational. Very good taste and absolutely great prepared. With great attention to detail The service is absolutely top notch, very friendly and accommodating. The food would be served extremely quickly. The ambience is also very bright and pleasant. You feel comfortable spending time and dining in the Volkshaus.

The service at the bar created a super pleasant atmosphere with the drinks. An espresso martini from Özi and a cranberry-amaretto sour from Sami are a heartfelt recommendation for anyone who wants to round off their evening. Greetings to your regular customers

The performance is not what I expected. The advertising suggested otherwise. The Volkshaus still has to learn from others when it comes to seating. It is more beneficial for the audience to stagger the rows. From what I observed, many visitors had a very limited view of the stage. If you were unlucky and a tall person sat in front of you, you lost. The acrobatics were lost partly because of the singers. These have come to the fore. A pity! In conclusion! Despite everything, the whole performance was entertaining and interesting. The actors are very good :-) What surprised me the most was the musician with the erhu. This was excellent.

A burger with fries would be cool as a special on the daily menu

I was there with a friend, for a brunch. Food was therefore not particularly sophisticated (scrambled eggs and pan fried potatoes + bread, butter and jam), it lacked salt, tasted a bit plain- but was well presented. There was a misunderstanding on the names of the menus pronounced very quickly in Swiss German by the restaurant manager when she served us so I took my friend’s plate thinking the scrambled eggs were part of my Volkshaus Zmorge menu. When I finished the eggs I dared to kindly ask if I would get the rest of my menu (which consisted of also jam, butter, fruit salad and birchermüesli) and the unkindness in the response was astonishing: “everything was brought to you, what can I do it now? it’s your fault, how can you confuse the two menus, you should have said it earlier… I will call the manager”. In all this, I was speechless, I did not reply and the waitress escalated it herself… as if I made a complaint. It was a simple question and from her reaction I did not understand we had exchanged our plates. The manager then was sent to our table, eve if I had said it was not needed, and she also was extremely defensive and kept the same line of communication “it’s your fault, how can you have not noticed you had not received what you ordered?”… so even treating us as two idiots. It would have been sufficient to explain with a smile that we had exchanged the plates. The unkindness was constant from our waitress at every interaction even prior to my question, from the moment I had to ask for the brunch carte, which was not brought to us together with the main restaurant one on a Sunday, typical brunch day! I remembered I hadn’t been particularly impressed with the service in this restaurant, but this time they reached my limit. Never had such a treatment in any establishment that should be focusing on customer services and satisfaction!

A super intimate concert hall, the only drawback is the lack of parking spaces in the area 🙈

Volkshaus is a traditional restaurant in Zürich in a historic building. The staff also behaves accordingly and is very kind and service oriented. Hand in hand with this, the food is also good. I was in Volkshaus in autumn so it was season for “Wild” so fresh meat from the annual hunt - delicious! When having the daily special meet option, a gentleman comes to your table with a big tray and serves it in-front of you. In general: would recommend the restaurant.

Theater: What I was missing was a short announcement/greeting at the beginning and some information. before the break how long it lasts. Was strange.

The atmosphere is simply unique. The service couldn't be better and the roast cart was an absolute highlight of the evening. My favorite restaurant in Zurich.

Overpriced, the service was ok but not that good and the Food that i ordered was lukewarm, would not eat there again.

Small, friendly performance hall, a little dated but which allows you to see the artists well.

Cramped seating, although everything is free upstairs, expensive drinks, plastic dishes and still require a deposit!

The stage was a bit small, at least for the ballet we watched. The seats were not very comfortable and beware of pinching your fingers especially if you go with kids. The queues at the bar were huge and thus we arrived late after the break. It was very pricey in general.

We don't know who is responsible for this, but the sound system wasn't tuned the last time we were there and I don't want to say anything more about the cleanliness of the toilets. The entrance fee was according to Swiss standards, everything else was not.

I was at the record and CD exchange today on December 17th, 2023! Lots of visitors, but everything was great. Good conversations with like-minded people. 👍 👍 ☺️

Nice bar - best Ramazzotti Sour in Zurich!

Surprisingly tasteful, fresh, rich flavours; great mushrooms and wild vegetables, great carrot & orange soup, and the sausage&fennel ravioli were delicious.

The place is very beautiful and evocative, typical of Zurich. We often come here for an aperitif but today we came for lunch to try the cuisine. As for the dishes, they are quite good but we took the larger portions which filled us up but are still a little too expensive in my opinion. Let's say that the quality/price is not the best but I still give 5 stars because the service and the location are really worth it. An obligatory stop if you come to Zurich at least once

The Volkshaus is a rather small venue. Has many different rooms. We went to the Alexander Stevens show. The show was great. However, the prices for drinks and snacks are quite expensive. I bought a Coca Cola Zero and paid 5.50 CHF. It's not exactly cheap.

I was here for a ballet. Charming little location, but unfortunately it was too small for the ballet with an orchestra to take place here.

As a long-time resident of the area, you would actually like to have this beautiful place. Unfortunately, it has been by far one of the worst-run restaurants in this city for years; in no other place have I been told so often and so clearly that it was just a nuisance as a guest. Just today again, Sunday night at 12:30 a.m., there are 4 or 5 people sitting at the bar, a lady with her still untouched drink, it's officially open until 1 a.m., two people are working. I would like to treat myself to a Schlumi on the way home. I was immediately told that there was no longer more than one beer across the street and that they wanted to close now because there weren't enough customers. I have dozens of other similar anecdotes, collected over the years, but it's not worth the effort. In any case, it's a shame about the beautiful place and sad that you apparently have enough success to not have to be a good host - let's not even start with wanting. It's been a disgrace for Züri for years and yet I always give the company a chance - after the second or third time at the latest, all fears are confirmed again.

I liked Helge Schneider so much. I wasn't planning on laughing since I was exhausted from work... But then I couldn't help but laugh so much thanks to him. Such a dear sweet man 😍😁❤️

My rating does not refer to the restaurant but to the event hall. I've been to two events recently. I think the seating is ok, although the rows of chairs directly behind each other instead of being offset are difficult. Small people can actually only see something if they hold their head to the side. Getting something to drink during the break or even just using the toilet is almost impossible if you want to be back on time. There are far too few toilets for women; they are almost on the lower floor. Same thing at the bar. The location is great, you're in the middle of the city and can do something else after attending the event. I recommend traveling by public transport.

Very cozy restaurant, ideal for business lunches. The taste of the food was great but unfortunately it wasn't served very hot.

Nice hall and everything well organized

1st time to go to a Ballet in Switzerland. It was very interesting since I didn't know what to expect. Experience was ok and everything went according to plan. The Nutcracker was very enjoyable and was nice to also see families with their kids in the ages 7 to 12.

We tried brunch one Sunday morning in Dec 2023 and enjoyed the spinach and salmon crepe. Very rich and creamy. Service was friendly and the atmosphere / decor very cozy and spacious.

A head waiter who shouts at a guest, looks at everyone angrily, looks some people in the face and tells them to go away is not acceptable. No politeness, no decency. Will never go there again even if I am invited for an important occasion.

Openness and tradition - that's why and also because of the consistently good cuisine I come to the Volkshaus.

The venue is horrible without proper seating

We took the Volkshaus and the hangover brunch twice. English menu on the table, waited over half an hour for brunch to arrive. Very disappointing, extremely small portions, 3 slices (small) of cheese that tasted like nothing, the plate with meat was a small piece of meatloaf, 3 small forks of scrambled eggs, 3 forks of fruit salad, 3 spoonfuls of Birchermüesli, butter and jam and tea or coffee, bread We had to reorder and the bread didn't taste fresh either. No water, no jus… All in all, the worst brunch ever in Zurich for this price!

Not too big an event location with certain things a bit old-fashioned.

We were able to enjoy a great concert! The Gäng room really heated up the Volkshaus. Only the start of the concert was not visible on the homepage or on the ticket. Just the door opening time.

I wanted to eat without a reservation. Unfortunately I took the wrong entrance. According to the boss, the personnel entrance. She sent me away because I had to use the guest entrance. Which I didn't understand at all since I was in the restaurant. She didn't let anyone talk to her. And so I had to go to another restaurant. I can't understand or understand the behavior. A pity

We went to the Biyon event today. The show itself was good. The staff in the hall was very unfriendly. First of all: When I wanted to go to the toilet during the show, the lady got up to open the door for me (which is friendly in itself) when I stood in front of her, the lady said to me: Shut up. I don't understand why you tell someone to be quiet when you haven't even said a word, I personally find it very disrespectful. Although two ladies were talking very loudly and the lady hadn't said anything, but someone who is quiet and just wants to go to the toilet is told this. Second: The show was almost over (still 2 minutes left) we decided to go out since we had a long journey home. The lady let three women out in front of us, but when we wanted to leave the hall she didn't let us out, she shook her head and said no, we have to stay inside. It is very unfriendly and indecent to leave someone in the hall against their will and not let them leave. Another visit to the Volkshaus will definitely not be an option for me.

Yesterday I ordered a saddle of venison for CHF 49.50 in addition to a nut salad with egg at the Volkshaus. The meat was so tough that it was difficult to cut with a normal knife; At first I even thought there was a bone in it! I then noticed that it was just covered in tendons/cartilage. Some pieces were not chewable. To a certain extent, it was probably my own mistake to go to such a restaurant in the first place, as I don't like the haute cuisine with its special preparation methods (purified red cabbage, polenta in bar form) and comparatively small portions. But what I was served yesterday was simply of poor quality. My friend's venison ragout was also only slightly better (tough vegetables, minimal meat content, everything oversalted). Afterwards we went to the armory cellar, where I ordered a second meal (Wiediker sausages with fries). After that I was full.

Always here when the comic and film fair is on. It has its charm and is big enough. Always happy to come back.

Ate here for the first time as part of my brother's civil wedding. Fantastic, beautifully presented food. Nice atmosphere and conversations are also possible at large tables in the large hall thanks to partition walls. Attentive and friendly service. Portions a bit small, especially for the desserts. My dessert was called, among other things, “meringues”. There were actually several in the plate - namely tens of crumbs of what was originally probably a quarter of a meringue. The ice cream ball had about the volume of half a normal ice cream ball.

Small but nice, artists just a few meters away

The service personal was absolutely up to the game. Highly professional which help us to have a successful Charity Quiz Night.

It wasn't on the menu, but it worked anyway: The various leaf salad to start with is also available in a smaller, crunchy version. Meltingly aromatic followed by the porcini mushroom risotto with two halves of spicy salsicce and hazelnuts, cleverly decorated with figs and fennel. Overall, a very harmonious combination of the best quality.

Meals could be paid for by credit card.👍 The Volkshaus is easily accessible by public transport (around 260m from the bus stop)! Conclusion: recommended!👍

Good food with service, everything was tip top, so five stars are more than deserved!

Easily accessible by public transport (you can walk from the train station) or by car (park in the city car park). Practically built, you still have a good view of the stage from the back row of the gallery.

(A not very big hall, set up in an old building with a smoky architecture. The hall proved to be too small for The Liberation Tour concert with the John McLaughlin Quintet!

I was disappointed with several aspects of my evening, including the quality of the food and the service. The dish I ordered was bland and the presentation left something to be desired. Additionally, the service was slow, and the staff did not seem very attentive to customer needs. Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I cannot recommend this restaurant. (In addition, the staff insists on leaving your umbrella at the entrance to the restaurant, so that at the end of your dinner you will find yourself without an umbrella because another customer would have stolen your umbrella).

There isn't much to eat. It's not necessary either.

When will the Volkshaus finally be renovated? 50 years ago it looked exactly the same. Lack of food during breaks, sanitary facilities, lack of visibility of the stage, fresh air, etc. etc. Unworthy of such a rich city!!

Top seminar infrastructure and catering.

Classic concert and event venue that has hardly changed over the years. The seats in the gallery are rather uncomfortable. The acoustics at concerts are usually good, provided the sound engineer knows his job. The situation of getting drinks is always difficult. Since the foyer is also used for security, cloakroom and merchandising, the space is too limited and people get in each other's way.

There were seven of us and we had a great evening. Delicious food and nice service. $$$ it was worth it! Highly recommended.

A nice, international kitchen with sometimes Argentine or for instance pan-Asian cuisine.

The lunchtime food was excellent. I really like the atmosphere too! The prices are a little higher, but also completely reasonable! There is soup or salad as a starter.

Built over 100 years ago as a people's cultural center, which also has a restaurant and various functions as an event and meeting place. Exhibitions are also shown.

Traditional event location with good acoustics and a pleasant size. Good concerts have been taking place in the Volkshaus for decades and you can have a good meal beforehand in the restaurant right next door (and if you want something a little more relaxed beforehand, go to the Xenix right next door to have a drink). The catering concept that does not require single-use plastic cups is also good at the Volkshaus.
