A horrible experience! Table reserved from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., we were not able to sit down for 15 minutes until the table was ready! As soon as we sit down, we are asked to choose quickly because the kitchen is closing soon. At 9:45 p.m., we were refused desserts because it was “too late for that.” So we asked to speak to the manager, and he was the highlight of the show: a haughty, aggressive and rude man. I was calmly expressing the situation when he turned his back on me and walked back, exclaiming “not my problem”!

What a disaster !!!!! The service is terrible, the staff is absolutely not welcoming! We're throwing our money out the window!

I tried to order at a restaurant, but couldn't eat due to the owner's advice that the timing wasn't right. I sit down and feel the excitement. I ended up making street sausage bread, but it was still good.

Went inside to tell the waiter we were going to sit outside for drinks. No one comes in 15 minutes. Go back inside and he comes out to take our drink order. Waited 20 minutes and no drinks. Avoid.

Welcome and pleasant atmosphere. Solid prices: entrecôte at 48.- a little tough and not very big, it's expensive... Risotto of the day excellent! But be careful: carafe of still water for 7.50 francs. It's grotesque. We were told: “It’s normal, we’re in Zermatt!” and that it was refrigerated... The good joke. The tap water in Zermatt is ice cold, no need to put it in the fridge. This practice is indigestible. A good number of restaurants in Zermatt (yes, you can be a restaurateur in Zermatt and not take the customer for an idiot) automatically put a carafe of water on the table without you having to ask, and obviously without charging anything.

The restaurant in the center of Zermatt is really well located and delighted us with its delicious food. The venison schnitzel and the truffle fondue were particularly a treat for the palate. Maria gave us a wonderful evening with her first-class service. Despite its rather small size, the restaurant exudes an extremely cozy atmosphere that immediately captivated us.

Everything we ordered was delicious! Our server, a lady with long, dark hair was very helpful and attentive. I suggest ordering everything you see on these photos I posted (scampi, risotto, and steak) and you will not regret it. The only negative review I have is the older lady with a bigger build was a bit rude. My husband is more than 6 ft, and a big guy. The seats were cramped and she couldn’t pass in between my husband’s seat and the other guy. She told my husband to refrain from resting his back on the chair so she could pass. She could have said it nicely.

I had a four-cheese fondue, it was good.

I would say in a nutshell the service here is terrible and the staff attitude is poor. It feels racist as well. The young waitress avoided serving us. We are well travelled tourists and have seen and experienced lots of things - this place ranks in the bottom. We had a good impression of Zermatt and Switzerland before we came to this restaurant. It's a shame. I will not revisit this restaurant and will not recommend it to our contacts. Not worth coming to such a restaurant.

We discovered this restaurant through a Chinese app where it was highly recommended for its delicious cheese and good service. However, the service we received was far from our expectations. Halfway through our meal, we had to ask for napkins, and it took a while for the waitress to bring them to our table. Additionally, on several occasions when we attempted to ask the waitress questions, she ignored our eye contact or gestures. What frustrated us the most was when we ordered an extra portion of potatoes during our meal, but it was never brought to our table. We assumed they weren't available because we heard the waitress informing other customers that the kitchen was closed. To our surprise, upon paying the bill, we were charged for two servings of potatoes. Politely, we raised the issue, but the waitress rudely insisted that she had served us two portions. We suggested the waitress check the dishes on our table or check the surveillance camera to confirm the number of servings. However, she loudly repeated: 'I have sure'. Not wanting to further disrupt our schedule, I offered to pay but requested that they check the surveillance camera after closing to resolve the disagreement. The waitress replied abruptly: 'You have to'. Although my friend suggested reporting the incident to the police, we decided against it to avoid further complications. Do we not know what we ourselves have eaten? I swear we wouldn't argue over a 3.5 franc bill! The attitude of the waitress was unacceptable, and she always refused to check if there was a mistake, displaying a stubborn and arrogant attitude. So, three days have passed – have you checked your surveillance camera? If you discover that a mistake was made regarding the potatoes, I request a screenshot of the table from our meal and an apology. It's not a question of 3.5 francs; this is about APOLOGIZING for your poor service attitude which has affected all of our moods.

Not enough staff for Christmas dinner. We got a fondue and asked the waitress if she could scrape the caquelon at the end for the religieuse, but this is apparently forbidden by the owner.

Lovely place. It was the beat fondu out of 3 i tried. Very tasty. Also a delicious tartar. Service was good and ambiance was lovely.

Friendly service and cozy atmosphere! We had the classic cheese fondue, spaghetti aglio olio and the chicken breast, the food were amazing!

The place was super cute and historical, the food was pleasant but the service was really not too tier.

The young girl waitress' service and hospitality was superb but on the other hand, the senior woman, was extremely rude. Frankly speaking, there is no user manual in eating foods and please don't school me how I ate the fondue. The bread was too hard that's why we soaked in the fondue. We understand and are aware that it is to dip and eat but seriously, I don't need you to instruct me how to eat, lady. The fondue with prosecco was very good but the other dishes just normal. Not Asian friendly restaurant anyway, but most of the customers are Asians.

Beautiful and petit place to dine on a Swiss specialty like Fondue! We ordered truffle and Prosecco, and it was simply spectacular! The best foundue we have ever eaten! Keep in mind that they open at 6pm

Popped in for a late lunch, cosy atmosphere although tables are a little close to each other. Our table was off balance and rocked the whole time making cutting a little tricky. The lunch menu is quite limited and mostly for a quick bite or rest stop. Fondue was good and came in a variety of flavours (Original through to prosecco with truffle). Additional serving of potatoes can be added for 3.50CHF (as of Dec 2023). Besides fondue there's an assortment of cold cuts, cheese platters and other appetisers that could be had.

Very good food and friendly service. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is pleasant. We had a bit of trouble communicating with the service staff, but it's not a big deal.

The ambient is a nice rural feeling. When I entered this restaurant alone, I was ignored for few minutes and no welcome at all. I waited but then just took a free table. I ordered the appetizer Marroni ravioli with pumpkin as vegan but instead it was drowned into butter. The marroni was very crunchy and not done at all. After that i got my linguini with lobster, also drowned in butter. A pity it was that salty you barely taste thw lobster itself. Maybe they are good with cheese fondue but I would never recommend having a fine dining at this restaurant.

Went in at 2pm, only serving small menus food. Didn’t try the fondue as I had it the day before. Most of the cook food will start only at 6pm. But overall the food was good. Environment was cozy.

This is a wonderful small, cozy restaurant in the heart of Zermatt. We made a reservation and got in early. But even though it is supposed to be low season in Zermatt (November 6), the restaurant was full by about 7 pm. Apparently in high season, you have wait in line to get in here. The food was wonderful. We stuck to the classic cheese fondue, because when in Switzerland in the cold, you must go classic. It was delicious and the quantity was more than we could finish. And the service was fantastic. We never had wait for anything, even though everyone was extremely busy. The personnel were pleasant and helpful in several languages, even our Brazilian portuguese. Again, this is a most excellent place and must be on your restaurant list if you plan to go to Zermatt. Well worth it.

Mistakes can happen. Especially in a busy restaurant. The food, atmosphere and actually the service were top. For me, the professional handling of errors is also crucial for a top rating. It can also happen to an experienced waitress who spills a full wine glass down my shirt. However, in my opinion, acting with a minimal “I’m sorry” is not enough. At least replacing the wine or offering a dessert or an invitation for next time would have been more professional. The patron (who was in the restaurant) could have said something else. It's a shame and doesn't really fit with the restaurant and other reviews. Everything was great, but error handling was unacceptable. Addendum November 4, 2023 The host family demonstrated professionalism with their reply and also the friendly email with an apology and a drink at the bar. We'd love to come back!

Very nice restaurant and we ate very well!

Good restaurant for fondue. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good classic fondue in a nice mountain hut atmosphere. The dessert from the neighboring table also looked delicious. The service was very good. Reservations can be worthwhile.

The food was delicious, the fondue is divine and the desserts were delicious. And the snails were exquisite! The atmosphere is very good and the service is very attentive. If you are in Zermatt you cannot miss this restaurant.

Had the veal sausage and my friend ordered the vegetarian ravioli. The taste was good but i would have liked some gravy or bread to go with the dish.

The place is good for having a fondue. However, they had a rather ugly detail: we asked for tap water and they told us they didn't serve it, charging us 7.5CHF for a bottle of water that looked like it was tap water. This is especially surprising in Switzerland where you can drink water from any public fountain on the street. The waitress was unfriendly

If the service stars can go up to 10, I will put 10. We were being guested pretty well. Especially to the lady who gave advices since we 3 are all blank to the cheese fondue. The lady won't exaggerate, and suggested us to go with the classic one. It turned out to be perfect. It's ok to shared one cheese fondue for 3, and we did order one more salad, and potato as well as 2 glasses of wine. Costed us less than 20FR on average. If you wanna try, and not sure where to go, this is the place you should come. Highly recommended. Again to the lady hosting us today. Appreciate.

Burrata was expired and rotten - Asked for tap water; was charged CHF 7.50 for a bottle after they said they "didn't have tap water" - Server forgot the potatoes as a fondue accompaniment after we had asked for it - Cheese fondue and other food items were average overall, but slightly below average taking the price into account

The restaurant has a good environment and an excellent location. It is located on the central street of Zermatt. The food quality is quite good. The cheese fondue and tortellini are of a certain standard. The price is not high for Switzerland, but the service is not very friendly.

I was able to fit in just in time without a reservation. The kind store clerk explained things to me in detail, even though I didn't speak the language well. The champagne cheese fondue and veal sausage were both delicious. Fondue usually only comes with bread, so it was a good idea to order sausage.

Friendly service and delicious classic cheese fondue with bread and potatoes. I liked that this restaurant allowed us to order one and share it between two people. Other restaurants we have seen charge per person. Sharing one was more than enough for two at lunch. Had it with the recommended white wine which wasn’t too sweet or dry. Tasted almost buttery. Loved this restaurant. Very cosy and the dim lighting make it feel romantic!

I'm not originally a big fan of cheese, but this cheese fondue had very little odor and was very delicious. The staff is also kind and I would definitely like to visit again.

Classic fondue spot. Recommend the champagne fondue. This is a heavy dinner so pairing with a wine to help cut the heavy works.

Very good atmosphere and a very cozy place. The Fundue is very good. If you want to try another dish, I recommend that you do not order for 2 people because you will be satisfied. One of the waitresses speaks Spanish. The prices... well, in line with this country. I recommend it.

Excellent fondue and wine selection to accompany. Although there are plenty of good fondue options in Zermatt, this cozy place is nicely tucked into a quieter area of town and is sure to live up to the highest of expectations.

We would like to thank you for an extremely entertaining, tasty and pleasant evening. When we came in without a reservation, the landlady offered us a small but lovingly prepared place. The soups were excellent, the fondue was delicious and sufficient, the wine was appropriate and not too expensive and the dessert was sensational. The staff were always looking out for our well-being. THANK YOU 5 stars are absolutely deserved.

Small cozy restaurant offering really nice Swiss food. The fondue was nice of course, but to add on the escargots, lamb chops with the potato gratin was really well made. Would recommend to make a reservation, luckily we managed to get a place but for next time we’ll take note.

This place has a WONDERFUL. CHAMPAGNE FONDUE 🫕, need I say more? Well yes, the other dishes are great too. We ended up going two days in a row because we did not miss out! on other 🙃 items we saw in the menu. They have exclusive wines 🍷 produced for them that are fabulous too.

Also known as Le Gitan, this is one of Zermatt's oldest stubli. I try to visit it every time I'm in town. I've been coming here for over 30 years. Reservations are recommended. The food is always great, the atmosphere is very cozy yet vibrant, almost like bistro/cafe style on the front side and more grill style on the back side. The wine list also has a great selection of local wines as well as international ones. Try the émincée or the cheese fondue. Highly recommended.

Small and fine restaurant with a varied menu. Rustic ambience in regional style.

As a starter, we had a large portion of snails 🐌, delicious in the garlic butter sauce. I haven't had that for quite some time. Next we had the Kräuter fondue, very nicely complemented by a local bottle of redwine 🍷 This place is perhaps a little bit cramped, but it literally oozes charm. Don't forget to finish off your meal with a nice digestif, they have a nice selection.

Great food, well worth a visit.

I was traveling solo and was in Zermatt, for the first time, for one night. I was excited to try some Swiss fondue. After going to three other restaurants that were fully booked, I asked for a table here and was rudely scolded and told I needed a reservation and that there were no tables. However, as I was leaving, a couple walked in without a reservation and was seated immediately. Shame on this restaurant! Everyone is entitled to the same customer service, whether dining alone or with others. No one should ever be subjected to this kind of discrimination.

This is my first time writing a negative feedback in google review. Normally I will just ignore and don't give feedback if the things are not great, but this time, it is far below just not great. We were walking around the Zermatt town centre, and stopped by this restaurant for the famous fondue. Yeah the food is nice, but the service was not good, probably we didn't make any reservation, or there were only 2 staff serving the whole restaurant? 1. This is our first time having the fondue in Switzerland, and when we asked for recommendation, the answer is simply "everything is recommended" without any introduction. After that, the waitress just threw the menu on the table and then walked away. 2. When I raised my hand to order food, we were told to wait. After we waited for 5 mins, I walked to the front desk and repeated we want to order our food, I was told to go back my table and wait, and the staff was just standing by the front desk... 3. I ordered the classic fondue, because my son is too young to consume alcohol. However, we were served with champagne fondue. Lucky we also ordered something else for my son. 4. When we finished the dinner and requested to pay the bill, we were again told to wait. Meanwhile, the waitress kept answering other tables' requests, who called her later than us. We are the only Asian customers at that time, stupidly watching her answering other table new requests immediately, until she was absolutely free. I don't think we were welcomed by this restaurant. Maybe it has long history in Europe, and 2~3 Asian customers' experience is just peanut to them.

Excellent place to eat fondue! The place is very pleasant, the fondue is exquisite and the service is also excellent!

Three other restaurants we wanted to go to were closed... so we were happy to find a table as a walk-in. For us, the food was good, not awesome, the atmosphere was good, not great, the service was good but not special. Zermatt is a tourist town, it's hard to expect more in that circumstance .

We accepted without a reservation, the food is super, inexpensive, the waiters know their job!

The food was below average. Really, I am not a person who expects something delicious. But making good hash potatoes (Roesti) should not be a rocket science.

The boss is direct in her approach, but has a very big heart. The team is warm and friendly. The food was fantastic and quite cheap. I ate homemade ravioli and loved it. The Stübli is also very nicely furnished. Go, you won't regret it!

My Friend and I went to this restaurant last week in Zermatt to try the Cheese Fondue. We ordered cheese fondue and tomato soup. The food and the restaurant ambience was ok. But the service really rude by one of the waitress.

Quite simply one of the best restaurants in Zermatt. Excellent cuisine. Really ! The setting is authentic rustic, welcoming and super warm. I love this place. but a shame that the portions are small and they refuse to give out jugs with tap water because the final bill is not cheap (like everywhere in Zermatt)

Great food, poor service. First, let me say that I hate to write this review because we had an awesome dinner at Le Gitan, the sister restaurant next door, earlier in the week. So we had every expectation that tonight would be great at Zermatter Stubli. Unfortunately, the comments left by other reviewers about poor service from one particular waitress at this restaurant rang true for us tonight. Simply put, the waitress we had was rude and did not make us feel welcome. I could give multiple anecdotes but will just share a couple: 1) When we arrived, she claimed we didn’t have a reservation — though I pointed our name out to her in her reservation book — she then pointed to a table for us without showing us to the table. 2) Another party arrived after us and she had served them drinks before even bringing us menus. 3) We asked her to call us a taxi and she responded by handing us a business card — not helpful considering we don’t have Swiss mobile phones. It’s sad, because the restaurant is cute and the food great! But service is key to any experience and can make a good meal great or terrible. Unfortunately, the waitress really created a dark cloud during our dinner and I regret reserving here. If you try this place out, come for the food but beware of the risk of poor service from this particular waitress. With many good restaurant options in Zermatt and with many visitors having a limited time in the village, I suggest you prioritize other restaurants.

We were (unfortunately) only there in the afternoon for an aperitif. Very cozy and the dishes of the guests at the neighboring tables looked very appealing. The place is rustic and cozy.

We went without a reservation for dinner on a Saturday and even though they were full, they were able to give us a table that had become available earlier than expected. Fantastic food and very good service. It is a cozy place to eat good typical food. The fondue, the best we have ever tried.

The food taste was ok, but the service was poor. Taste (3/5): We ordered steak and fondu. The taste is average, not outstandingly good or something. Service (1/5): one of the waitresses was rude and a bit racist idk. We felt not comfortable at all with their service. Bottom line - we had a bad experience from dining in this resto.

I went there on the 23rd of December with a group of 5. The waiters are super kind and speak all possible languages around here. We went there for traditional cheese fondue but followed a recommendation of a truffled fondue and it was amazing. Prices are good for the region, although coming from Zürich I found a bit funny that potatoes were not included and we had to get a separate portion. Would definitely recommend.
