Zum Frischen Max in Zürich

I was there with the company after work in the summer. Ambience was cozy and pleasant. Food/snacks were generally okay but the portions were too small for me. The service was (I suspect) unmotivated students who asked for tips very quickly. I would also be happy to pay if they would try a little harder.

Super good and fast. Typical Swiss (German) cuisine. Delicious fries and pleasant staff.

The fresh Max is nice for an aperitif or something small to eat on a beautiful summer day. It is really beautifully furnished and has enough shade. Menu selection is limited - you shouldn't come with Gault-Millau claims either. :)

Exactly cool The shed is really fresh. Or should I say “fresh”?😏 I think the bar makes incredible drinks, the staff are very attentive and friendly, and the facility is very bohemian. I think the food is always a feast and the music always hits the spot. I'll be back! Definitely!

Perfect place for an after-work drink in a great atmosphere, with a small but nice downer. Too long waiting times for drinks and food. Service staff are very friendly and try hard, but there seems to be a lack of routine. Reasonable prices for Zurich.

Just had a quick beer. Nice summer bar right at Oerlikon train station. Service at the bar a bit slow (even though there were few people). But prices (for self service) are pretty steep.

Currywurst with fries was so salty I couldn't finish it off, tho I had hunger (as the french say) and the portions are not big. On the other side, a very lovely location, especially attractive in the twilight. Also super conveniently located transport wise. Could see this as a good Biergarten but not sure they have the same concept here.

Hipster outdoorsy place to grab a beer and some bistro type grub. Didn't have anything to eat unfortunately, but can imagine this is a great place to chill when the weather is hot

Frische Max is perfect for drinks outside under the awnings, the atmosphere is fantastic. However, the prices are a bit high and they serve bottled beer without glasses.

Unfortunately the opening times are not observed. Closing time 2 hours earlier than stated even though there are still 50 people on site

Unfortunately the door slammed in front of us 2 hours before the stated closing time. Recommendation: the ambience is still good, just get the beer at the station and continue to enjoy the ambience with station noises.

Super cool, relaxed location right next to the train station.

We had a reservation at about 6pm. At 19:00 we got informed that the kitchen was closing on 19:30 and on 20:15, while waiting for 15min for 3 beers, I saw the information that they will close at 21:00. I mean just don’t put any opening hours in the internet (normally until 22:30), if you are not sticking to them and closing shop, whenever the employees want to go home. Food was ok, but long waiting times (not a lot of people, but still). Nothing special. Service was bad. People standing in line to get drinks, 2 employees are working and two were just standing there, instead of opening up a 2nd order station. Toilets were clean and ok. I wouldn’t recommend to be honest. Waiting times for drinks/food too long and opening hours that seem like a lottery are not the best for a place like this.

Great experience in summer. Unfortunately the staff is a bit unmotivated. Most of the time when the weather is good there are long queues and it becomes too stupid to queue again. It's a shame, they could make even more sales with a little more puff...

Long lines, long waits, inefficient staff, prices ok if the food was tasty. Only the fries are delicious. Even for a drink from the bar you have to queue for 15 minutes.

Its a cool place! The staff are kind and very helpful! Even in stress situation! Wow thank u for the hospitality! Even the long waiting they were able to open the second bar! I asked them and they told we‘re lil bit understaff. But they did opened the second bar! Good job! Thanks alot we will for sure come back!

I can't judge the food and service. We only bridged the 25 minute wait with a cold beer. But the ambience is great and creates a holiday atmosphere.

It's a shame it's self-service... Amaretto sour tasted like orange juice...

Great place to enjoy an after-work beer when the weather is nice.

Barman during opening a new bottle directs it to your face. Never have seen such "pleasure" in any other place. After waiting in a queue for 5 minutes you are told to come back later because they don't have any other available device to inform that your order is ready to be retrieved. You ask for a dish (there are already not too many), they say they do not have it and it is early evening only. Then you order a burger and it is really below the average, especially considering the price you pay.

Very slow to get drinks, but the atmosphere and location are great. Such a large place could benefit with a second bar or order from the table using a QR code and the drinks come to you which would be even better.

Employees are always really slow and overwhelmed. Beat for far too long - so we never get a second drink. Food disaster. Overpriced and bad. Pulled pork burger bun dry, hard and old. Meat so dry. A disgrace for the price. Not recommendable. The only plus point is the central location. But the way things are going, we'll give up in the future and go somewhere else.

Super cool place! Nice that there are a variety of places you can sit at: in the tent, under a tree, or under the sun. Good variety of drinks and food. Perfect on a warm day!

Unfortunately there is always a huge queue at the bar. 20m queues are normal, things are moving too slowly. It feels like you're standing in line half the time. Our two favorite beers have been sold out for 5 weeks and there is no need to reorder. Please organize better!

Had to wait in line for 30 minutes just to order. Instead of talking to my friends, I spent most of my time alone waiting in line. Tip for the owners: invest in an online ordering system. When I finally got the food, the curry wurst was cold and the Bratwurst looked like this:

It's wonderful to have lunch there. Unfortunately, I find the portions far too small. I never get full and am forced to order something extra every time. On days when there is a lot going on, you feel like a number and the food is just left to you without any love, which I find a bit of a shame because the prices are also very high.

A very good place to meet up with friends for drinks after get off work, right next to platform 8 of Oerikon train station. Drinking and chatting are not bad, but the food is just ordinary Swiss food, nothing special.

Drinks/drinks were great. In my opinion, the burgers had too little meat in them and the buns were hard and dry.

A fairly nice place for having a cup of coffee or a drink in the evening or perhaps even a dinner. There are tables and sofas under the teepee-styled tents, which provide for the shadow on the sunny days or can equally protect from the rain. Inside the tents the atmosphere is cosy and there are book shelves with the books written by the famous Swiss authors Duerenmatt and Frisch, after whom the restaurant has been named. A highly recommendable place in Zurich Oerlikon, which is open throughout the summer season.

Nice garden location for eating. Pleasant atmosphere. However, I found the food to be just okay in terms of taste.

Very nice location at Örlikon train station. But queuing for 15 minutes at a maximum of 20% occupancy does not invite a return visit.

The oriental couscous was very bland. However, the Bali drink was pleasantly fresh and the cashier was very friendly. As always, you unfortunately have to smoke passively at the tables outside.

Always a pleasure to be on the terrace and enjoy some drinks and food with friends. Even when it's raining, the tents provide a good coverage.

If you're not hungry and want to be insulted for ordering food, this is the place for you. Anyone who finds this as disturbing as I do should go somewhere else. There wasn't really much going on that day, but the entire staff was completely overwhelmed and completely passed on the bad mood to the customers. It took a very long time until the food was ready, but even then we still had problems giving out all the food in the order (so only after asking several times and showing the order slip were all the food in the slip given out). Food quality was okayish but not worth the hassle. It's a shame, the location itself actually looked pretty nice for a summer day, but that's just not how it works.

The location is great, in front of Oerlikon train station. City life feeling. The food wasn't that good and ordering was just too hectic and we had to wait a long time. Definitely recommended for a drink on a hot evening.

Kitchen completely overwhelmed, total chaos when serving food. After 50 minutes we finally got the food. But the quality was ok. Still, I wouldn't go there again.

What the neighborhood was missing! The train station area around Oerlikon didn't always have it easy. But Zurich North has experienced a great upswing in recent years. But the sociable, cozy atmosphere was somewhat lost in favor of the new concrete and glass buildings... But anyone who thinks that Zurich only has the Geroldsgarten and the Cheib district to offer as alternative places is wrong. It could hardly be more central and yet here you are in a world of your own. No, rather with his friends in his “own garden” or with his employees at the end of the day. Loosen your tie and return the constant smiles of your employees, this is how life should be honored. I say, good luck and thank you very much, dear Frischer Max!

Cool atmosphere for a drink. Good selection of beer, lemonades, cider etc. Unfortunately the food is not really recommended.

Our recent boys night-out has taken place at this location. The atmosphere during a beautiful summer night is brilliant. Almost all yables were taken and even a birthday party was taking place. The drinks you have to pick from the counter but the queue was not that bad. A great location if you are commute back home by train since this garden is situated right next to Oerlikon train station.

Actually a well implemented idea to use this space. But the prices are too high for self-service and the cheap wooden benches. Cash is not accepted, this is a no-go for me.
