Alpenrose in Zürich

We had no reservation but since it was sunday evening and a lot of sits available they accomodated us, the 2 gentlemen server is nice and kind especially the older one. Really appreciate his thoughfulnes. The food is a must swiss experience.

I’ve looked up best restaurant in Zurich on Time Out and this place came out on suggestion. I didn’t manage to get a booking on a Friday evening so we tried our luck to walk in around 6pm. We were considered lucky to have dinner here as the place was filled around 8pm..! Ambience- cozy and nice space with some traditional rustic vibes Service- There are three waiters when we were there and all of them were not as attentive and being helpful with menus when we asked them question. Not sure if they don’t understand English at all or doesn’t want to…this affects our dining experience which was a bit disappointing. Food- we’ve ordered the meat loaf and veal steak. Both were very homely made taste and flavourful which we enjoyed very much. I specially adore their spactzle! I would highly recommend to have it as sides. For starter we had the bone marrow beef soup and beef tartare- the soup was OK, don’t think there’s any wow factor in there but the beef tartare was amazing. Overall this is the comfort food I had in Zurich and I really enjoyed the food. Hopefully service will improve next time that will makes it perfect :)

It was a true disappointment. The steak was raw and not really filleted. The waiter did not ask how I want to eat, he acted super weird the whole time, and we had to ask for wine, dessert, bill two times. The meatloaf was nice, but the desserts again just miserable (caramel pudding and homemade cherry ice cream). You can find much better places for this price, food, ambience in Zurich.

The place is welcoming and very good, but the reason I'm writing here is the food. I loved my “Seasonal Homemade Sea Buckthorn Ravioli”.

Wonderful place from times gone by. The traditional dishes are perfect and tasty. The wine list features suitable Swiss wines. The service is professional and personable. The concept of integration and social engagement fits in with this. A place of longing. Fantastic!

I was there today 👉 From a to z was bad. Food cold... Bad service… I didn't get a glass for the red wine, I used the glass of aperitif... I said something and the menage said I was unlucky. For me it's an insult to the gastronomy in Zurich. No, I was never recommended. Sad but true.

This dinner made our trip back in August, and made my list of the top 3 best meals I've had ever. My fiancé and I were looking for somewhere to eat during our one night alone together in Zurich after my family left. We wanted traditional Swiss cuisine, but my fiancé doesn't eat red meat, and 9/10 places I'd found really only served tripe, veal, or sausage. Alpenrose had a lot more variety on their menu. From the moment we sat down, I knew the 1.8 mile walk from our hotel was worth it (we were staying closer to Lake Zurich, of course you can drive or take the train but I felt taking the distance as an opportunity to explore the city was a plus!) The ambience is BEAUTIFUL, romantic and inviting. It was intimate and not too loud; we sat outside. We ordered the chicken and the seasonal ravioli, both of which were, well, amazing. I honestly don't know how they got the chicken so moist and filled with flavor, yet also crispy on the outside. Our waiter also brought us some complimentary roasted vegetables, fresh from the market that day. My fiancé got a salad as well, which clearly had some of the freshest veggies I'd ever had. As for the drinks, I had a cocktail and my fiancé had a local beer; he's very particular about his beer and it did not disappoint! I spoke with our server to figure out what I wanted, and he recommended a gin and tonic and was willing to add elderflower syrup for me - it turned out perfect. Our server, Robin, was excellent the whole night, and so generous in sharing with us more about Swiss culture, why the restaurant served what it did, etc. My fiancé and I both enjoyed getting to know him - the best service with the best meal. After we finished desert (Homemade ice cream!!!! My flavor was multiberry and my fiancé's a Swiss wine...enough said <3), Robin offered us a dessert drink, and when we didn't know what we wanted brought us two Swiss liquors to try. My fiancé ended up getting the cherry liquor and I think the one I had was pear - THE BEST end to a wonderful meal. Mine was quite smooth, but warmed me right up. Then came the best surprise - it was only 148 CHF for ALL OF THAT. I'd easily been expecting 250 CHF, given the quality and how expensive everything else had been in Switzerland. This was the first time there I saw my bill and had no regrets - every part of this meal was perfect. About 3 hours after we started the meal we left, feeling well taken care of and hopeful we'd be back one day!!

Swiss food in a classic stylish environment with a great mission

The tables were all occupied, but the boss understood that I just wanted a quick drink. She had a bar stool brought from the basement and served me at the bar. That's top service! Thank you very much. I really appreciated it and would love to come back.

Just had the best experience in Switzerland 🇨🇭we went to many restaurants and many of them is not welcoming but this one is the most welcoming place with the best meatloaf.

Update: following the review, the manager got in touch with me. Very positively surprised she did and was open for feedback. She acknowledged the fact that the place is noisy (due to the setup), waiter was maybe misunderstanding/misunderstood, and invited to try the food again. I'm bumping up my review to 4 then, as it is very rare to care for the service that much and showing the need to understand. Hat off to Ms Alexandra the manager. Waiter was very cold/rude despite us making the best effort to speak German all along. No advice about the wine or on the ravioli vs Blumenkohl. Ambiance was super noisy. So much noise. Impossible to talk without screaming. The traffic from the street + the staff carrying around this spirit bottles trolley made it painful. Food was so-so. Pretty expensive for what it was. How come the vegan option is as expensive as the carnivore one???! Blumenkohl was poorly dressed. We won't go back

Had an A+ meal here. Fantastic food and service at a restaurant with a lot of class and character (s). High level of English to help get through the menu which had a decent variety of offerings and some great Swiss wines. And the schnapps cart at the end sealed the deal. Not cheap, but then again, what is in Zurich. Would go back any time.

We enjoyed the finest meal of our 7-day trip to Switzerland at Alpenrose. The traditional Swiss dishes like the meatloaf may seem simple, but their preparation is simply divine. Service was worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant. And the Swiss wines that we enjoyed were just fabulous. Highly, highly recommended!

I've come here countless times with my family. Nothing too fancy, just a homey swiss restaurant with great food. No matter what dietary restrictions one has there seems to be something quite healthy for almost anyone. While the restaurant is clearly swiss, I'm always surprised by the creativity of their menu. The waiters always know what they're talking about and are helpful and kind. Update: it has become more of a trendy place in the last year with a lot of loud American tourists. This has made it difficult for the service to be as good as it used to be.

With many restaurants in Zurich, many people will miss the opportunity of this amazing treat of culinary perfection. Alexandria Schaer greeted us with a beautiful smile and genuine appreciation of us walking into the restaurant. The whole staff greeted us in the same manor. Our entrées were amazing. Sorry for no pictures, the food was perfect. The ambiance was of old world warmth and welcoming pleasure. A special note, this restaurant offers special needs, humans, the opportunity to learn skills & careers in all areas at the restaurant. You will witness the excitement and pride they have for these positions and their skills. Do not miss this unique and wonderful find.

My aunt celebrated her 90th birthday today with 25 guests. We were served a very nice lunch. Both the meatloaf and the vegetarian menu with “yellow lentils” were excellently prepared and aesthetically presented by the kitchen team. The service staff was very attentive and friendly, we really enjoyed the sparkling wine, the white wine, the red wine that were recommended to us, all produced in Switzerland. We felt very comfortable all around and were able to enjoy the birthday party in peace. I would come back at any time and can recommend the Alpenrose without reservation.

I recently ate at a restaurant that serves traditional food .The restaurant had a unique look with high ceilings and lots of wooden decorations. They even had some cool cultural things on display. The food was really good and reminded me of Swiss dishes. The staff were nice and made sure we had a good time. It's a great place if you want to try Helvetian cuisine in a cozy, cultural setting.

It was the best restaurant in terms of space, service, and food. The store was really clean and pretty with an antique atmosphere, and the staff were all very friendly. In particular, the service from the staff who recommended menus and wines was truly excellent. My husband and I were impressed as we watched them serve and serve customers other than us, feeling like they were truly professional. The wine, food, and even dessert were all flawlessly delicious. Although it was a short trip, this was absolutely and overwhelmingly the best restaurant I visited during my trip to Switzerland. If I go to Switzerland again, this is a restaurant I definitely want to visit and eat at again. It was the last dinner of my trip to Switzerland. The reviews were so good that I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. As expected, it was such a perfect restaurant that it made the end of my trip even more perfect. My husband and I were very happy throughout our stay at the restaurant.

This is such a cute place and the staff is always so friendly. I’ve been a few times and I always love it. My only complaint is that they rarely change the menu.

Dinner at Alpenrose was one of the best dinners I had during my time in Switzerland. I had a braised balsamic beef dish and it was incredible. Our waiter was extremely helpful and told us a lot about Zurich and made some great recommendations for things to do. If I visit to Zurich again, I will definitely return to Alpenrose.

Characteristic Swiss restaurant. Nice environment and friendly staff. Good food, the meat is local from the pastures of Switzerland. We ordered an Angus and a beef tartare. For dessert I strongly suggest trying the champagne ice cream, very delicate, almost impalpable.

Good choice if you are looking for a fine Swiss restaurant close to the city center. Every day they have a different type of home made ravioli which are excellent. I also loved the ice cream with a traditional Swiss cherry liquor. The service was great and we felt very welcome. Just note that the prices are also very Swiss. :-)

Arrived on time to be told to wait outside for 10mins. Was clearly not expecting this in Switzerland. We met the manager- Alex, later who apologised for this and gave us a complimentary desert. We had a waiter who is an older guy with a moustache who was extremely unpleasant. We were told later by the manager that he does not speak much English. The interior was busy, really need to book. However the noise levels was extremely high and found it too noisy for the type of dinner to catch up and talk- Hence the 2/5 on atmosphere on the review. We also had the most amazing waiter after that called Robin. The wine suggestion by Robin was amazing- Swiss Merlot. We had the trout and the duck with spätzle- good but not outstanding- It was a leg so was more moist but the skin could have been crisper and the fat a bit more melted out. Complimentary desert of chocolate mousse was good. Robin came around with some (non complementary ) afters- had the cherry liquor. Very good. The initial service disaster was very much reversed by Alex and Robin. Well done.

Fantastic service and delicious food. No issues speaking only English. The waiters were happy to provide guidance and background on the dishes. Such as asking about the spices in the mashed potatoes and information about the local wine we consumed. Every serving was fabulous; the veal meatloaf was packed full of flavour.

Nice restaurant, right at the tram stop. The food is very fine. Good selection of daily menus, without long waiting times. The staff has a good overview and is friendly and competent. When the room is full, it gets loud. Can be recommended.

Have been there more often at lunchtime now. So far, without exception, we have had very fine food and very good service. There are daily changing lunch menus as well as a few standard menus. The meatloaf and the sauerbraten are definitely recommended.

I would give this place 9.3/10 We had some really great swiss food here. The interior design was really stylish old dining hall with far to the ceiling. The restaurant seems very popular, and when we were there, we got the last table. The popularity caused the sound level to rise. So it was pretty loud in here. This is the reason why we could not give the full 10/10 The servers english was not flawless, but we managed to communicate. And this did not reduce points as we expected this would be the case. Very nice place, I recommend it

Brilliant as always, it was so nice and simply lovely to spend time there...we'll definitely come back again and again...

After we spontaneously came across the Alpenrose last Friday, soaking wet in the pouring rain, we were welcomed into a warm, friendly atmosphere. It was already after 9 p.m. and yet we were immediately seated at the bar where we waited with the most delicious “Leermond” beer for the table that was prepared for us. We ordered two salads for starters. Not a wilted leaf in sight, the salad was perfectly rounded off by the roasted grains. For the main course we chose the Suure Mocke (roast) and the veal meatloaf, both with spaetzle. The portions were large and the meatloaf in particular will be remembered for a long time! Tender and perfectly seasoned, plus the delicious sauce. We were also very impressed with the chocolate mousse and the dessert of the day. The restaurant is quaint and the employees are all warm and totally friendly. At the end we had a long chat with the boss and were able to go back to the hotel with a warm feeling in our hearts. In my opinion you have to come here if you are in Zurich! Thank you again for the great evening.

Very fine and genuine food with wonderful ingredients. We received a very warm welcome with our three-year-old twins. The service was excellent. We'd love to come back. A real gem in Zurich with a nostalgic flair.

A wonderfully friendly place. Rather a smaller card. Fresh and also with vegetarian dishes. A house specialty is veal meatloaf with side dishes of your choice. So it's also a cozy restaurant for people who like hearty food. Absolutely within the price range.

Try the Hackbraten - seriously the best one I’ve ever had the pleasure to try. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Great local Swiss Schaumwein. On a week night the place was packed - get a reservation in advance.

As always, nice atmosphere. Beautiful🎄and decor. Food good and solid! I lack the “twist” and courage to try something new. The menu could do with a few changing daily specials. Wine list focuses exclusively on 🇨🇭! Commendable but I felt the reds lacked a bit of diversity. I'm probably missing the variety in the dishes for a visit soon. Price/performance is good and we were satisfied.

Typical restaurant with Swiss-German dishes. Nice environment and above all warm because it was so cold outside that going in there and finding the warmth and good food was truly beautiful. Very nice owner who loved my city Naples.

Thanks to a cancellation by another guest, we were only able to get 2 places. Fortunately! Excellent pumpkin and cabbage salad as well as the other dishes. Very attentive and well organized service by Dario! Happy to come back!

Incredible meatloaf, best I’ve ever had.

We had a wonderful evening in a cozy atmosphere, already discreetly decorated for Christmas. The food (also vegetarian selection) was wonderful. Nut salad and pasties like grandmother's - i.e. couldn't be more authentic. The service was also very friendly - gladly again! And all of this with a social background.

This restaurant is amazingly cozy, great for the family. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. We have 2 young children and they helped make our meal a fantastic experience. I had a dish called pastetli and it was easily one of the best meals that I have had. My wife enjoyed a vinegar braised beef rant was incredibly tender and served on a delicious bed of spaetzle. We could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience, if you are in Zurich I highly recommend taking a trip to Alpenrose.

We were there for dinner with a group of 14 people. Service perfect, Rösli's meatloaf with mashed potatoes is a real hit. Wine selection and digestifs throughout Switzerland with some pearls.

An incredible traditional Swiss cuisine dining experience! I wish I could give more stars as this is was our best experience at many restaurants throughout France, Germany, and Switzerland. The food and wine were phenomenal, but the warmth and hospitality of the service was joyful (emphasis on joy). Do not hesitate to book a reservation as you will not be disappointed. Thank you to the amazing employees and the admirable cause of the restaurant (to employ people with special needs in their first jobs). You left us with a lifetime impression.

Exceptional swiss cuisine in Zurich. We had the meatloaf and the beef, both cooked well. Restaurant looks a little old-fashioned. Prices are in line with Zürich: 45 each for a single dish with water.
