Bug a Thai in Basel

For me, I see no reason to pay about 40% more to get fewer portions and flavors. We were very disappointed with our last visit. I will definitely try another place in Klara for my next visit. As for Pad Thai, I will save my money for places where I can get better value and more authentic flavors.

The best massaman curry I’ve had, great place

Not a fan. My curry tasted way too salty, the rice was OK. Prices are out of control and getting a receipt for the expense rapport is almost impossible. I had to complete it myself. Too bad, I usually LOVE Thai curries.

So I was there on February 4th, 2024 and ordered green curry. I then got spring rolls. Apparently the lady behind the counter didn't understand me properly. I insisted on curry, whereupon the lady, who wasn't particularly friendly anyway, got really mushy. Communication is also difficult because she hardly speaks any German. I have never experienced such unfriendly manners in Switzerland. I would like to emphasize that I remained friendly. After a lot of back and forth I finally got my curry, but you can't treat your customers like that...

In the Klara. If you're not familiar with the local area, you'll walk past it. But you should use a visit to Basel for this purpose.

Worst massaman curry I've ever eaten, everything cheap except the price. Chicken, vegetables were ok, peanuts burnt and bad, curry watery.

Wrong dishes were delivered (which can happen sometimes), but the phone was no longer answered afterwards. Too bad. Instead of Pad Thai we were delivered a red curry. Unfortunately I can't recommend it any further.

The service (man) is a disaster! I ordered pad Thai with duck, the price is CHF 28. But it is written as 23-24 in their blackboard, they just charge the price very randomly. Not recommended.

The written price for chicken cashew was 25 francs. The guy charged us more than the written price with the reason that the written price was for tofu. Why do you write chicken cashew then? Rip-off business and not friendly at all. Disappointed...

Very rude and impolite to us after making our order incorrectly and calling us liars. Tried to get other customers involved and refused to correct the order. Only after the food court manager got involved did he correct the order by which point we had no interest in eating there. Such a shame as it would have cost him almost nothing to remake a simple dish again that suited our allergy requirements as initially requested.

Tasty food and decent portions and prices for Basel. Friendly staff that explained to us what was the content of the dishes. A girl served us and spoke very good English, a rare thing in Switzerland. The waiting time was short. After you finish eating, you must put the cutleries and dishes in a special place in the center of the hall. Also there is a free toilet downstairs.

The Pad Thai wasn't good. It tasted cheap. Expensive prices for that. In the market hall it is better and cheaper.

I booked a menu at Bug a Thai via TooGoodToGo; their offer is not worth it whatsoever! They seem to use the platform to make additional money, and not to prevent food waste (the food was cooked on the spot, and there were no leftovers). The food itself was o.k., but contained only too few ingredients (rice with a few veggies), and the portion size was tiny.

Ich gehe regelmässig über Mittag dort essen und bin sehr zufrieden. Die Qualität der Speisen ist gut und die Wartezeit im Rahmen. Die Portionen sind anständig und das Angebot Abwechslungsreich. Authentische Thai-Küche die sich sehen lassen kann!

The “vegi” curry should definitely be called something else! Vegi means vegetarian, i.e. without meat and fish! After I ate a spoonful, I noticed that it tasted slightly fishy and I immediately ran to the pharmacy. I have a bad allergy to fish and if I had eaten it I would have ended up in the hospital. The chef then confirmed to me that there was fish sauce in it. Aside from the fact that some people don't want to eat fish, it's actually dangerous for certain people like me!
