Union Diner in Basel

In my opinion the best burger in Basel. I can recommend the Big Lebowski. The price is a bit high but still acceptable.

Food was incredibly tasty (Dirty Harry on the menu), very cozy atmosphere and nice service :)

Several times now I've ordered through Uber eats and my order was incorrect or missing items. Super unfortunate given how much I love their food.

We ordered burgers without cheese (allergy!). Unfortunately it came with leftover cheese on it. Instead of making a new one, the chef simply took it off again. The lettuce in both burgers had dark spots. The chef probably likes fries because he kept putting them in his mouth and then touching food without changing his gloves. After the entire team has taken a long smoke break, washing their hands would be a luxury...once and never again!

This place is Super busy - at least the two times we tried coming here for dinner. We were finally able to get a table after some time waiting. The food takes a little while to come out but is tasty (burger to bun ratio a bit off as the bun is much larger). Good food.

In terms of price, I find it a little too expensive in terms of performance and compared to the competition.

01/21/24: been to the Union Diner again. It was super tasty again! For me the best burger in town 👍🏻 Good tasting burger. The drinks were a bit “fancy” for my taste but still good. But it's not a real restaurant but more like McDonald's style. So you have to order your drink and food beforehand, then (if you can't take it with you straight away) you get a "beeper" and when it goes off, the food is ready or ready to be picked up. The service at the checkout was super nice and friendly. The burger I had was totally juicy and good. By the way, when I ordered I was also asked how I would like my patty to be fried - I thought that was very good and it worked.

We tried the King Kong Burger today, unfortunately it wasn't as good as expected. There was no sauce at all, so it was very dry. Would have expected more for 40.- (menu), price-performance ratio was rather poor

Regular negative experiences with employees. The burger is okay, but I won't be visiting the restaurant in the future because of that.

Good meal, price a little too expensive. The light is too low, it hits the eyes.

Still the best burger for me. However, what was negatively noticeable during the last few visits is that the fries were only kept warm and if necessary. were warmed again. Very annoying! It's not worth it for the price, especially since the portion of fries has been reduced anyway.

The fries are very delicately seasoned with rosemary and salt. Personally, I “only” enjoyed the burger mediocre, but I have to go again to definitely confirm this.

For me the best burger in Basel! A diverse selection of burgers and sauces, with every burger also available vegetarian. I personally don't like the vegan range, but I really like the sauces. The fries are nice and crispy with rosemary and salt (a wonderful taste experience) and the burger tastes even better every time. Highly recommended.

Very very tasty burger. In terms of price, I found it expensive, especially for the fact that it's self-service, but the taste was great and the ambience was, well, just like you would imagine in a diner.

I have already asked 4 times whether the vegan burger “the green book” is available. It's sold out every time. I always wanted to eat there but left because it wasn't available. When can I eat the burger?

Very good burgers with Swiss meat and sweet potato fries. However, the music was a little too loud for me.

I would have liked to give it 3.5 because it was good. However, nothing extraordinary given the price! And what's more, they made a mistake in the order for my daughter's friend and made her feel guilty by telling her that if they had to replace her, they would have to throw it away: this is unacceptable! They could have at least made a commercial gesture!

Burger everything tip top and service too but the price 25 CHF for a menu? There's exactly the same burger at Holy Cow around the corner for 15... so there you go :)

Good food, but I suggest a couple of tips: 1 - increase the power of the extractor hoods, you leave the room with all your clothes smelling like food (will you pay me for the laundry? 2-Do not introduce substances to people in the kitchens who are not suitable (there were guys dressed normally)

As an American traveling in Europe and the UK for over 5 months, this is as close to the real deal burger we've found. Sweet potatoes fries delicious!

Superb little address located parallel to one of the main streets of Basel. The service was quick and the burgers were of high quality. The fries were just as good. 65 CHF for two evenings 72 euros with the exchange rate for 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks. The price may come as a surprise to French people used to lower prices, but we like it in Basel. I recommend this restaurant! The sauces are also excellent and the servers are friendly.

I ordered on Uber eats and made a mistake in the order: I forgot to add a FREE sandwich! I tried 30 TIMES to call the restaurant with no answer, until the delivery man arrived home! Unbelievable bad service!

For the price it's worth it even if it's expensive.

Compared to Holycov is much better and 50% cheaper. We ate in a diner once because we thought apart from burgers 🍔 there would be something else to choose from, but no. Then next time we eat again in our favorite Holy, where the staff is super nice

The Kingkong Burger is awesome, especially with sweet potato fries. The small plates are a bit annoying because it's difficult to eat with cutlery without throwing something down. The shop is also a bit noisy and not exactly comfortable. More suitable for a bachelorette party than a date.

I love your sweet patatoe fries but today I was more than disappointed, they are all really hard and really dry... My veggie burger was also great because the pattie was strangely pink and was barely fried. I paid 32.- which I like to do for delicious food, but today was quite disappointing.

The food is amazing, especially the crispy chicken. The service is much friendlier than the Union Diner in Gundeli

Be aware that you'll have to budget about 160 ChF for a family of four to eat here, but if you are a burger connoisseur or if you are seeking the best sweet potato fries, Union Diner is the place for you! Our teenagers (16 & 18, currently) loved the ambience -- great food and great music, plus comfortable seating. If you are craving an excellent burger, this is it!

We have been going there every week for more than two years. Excellent fries and chicken nuggets for the children. Every month we look forward to the original special. The staff is always nice and they work hard to make it a good comfortable experience.

It's one of the better Burger Chains in Basel. A bit on the more expensive site. But with amazing burgers and sauces.

Today I got the 'Aladdin', the vegan burger of the month: it was dry and flavourless. Even more humus and roasted peppers could not save it. I told the staff and handed them 2/3 of the burger back. Now, I did not expect a refund but they could have at least offered to make it up somehow. Their meat based burgers must be good because my family loves this place. However, their Buffalo Bill used to be great until they stopped having cole slaw, now it's also rather dry. Their Dracula used to be my favourite but now it's mostly mushy and also lost in flavour. I've tried a few of their monthly ones...well I really would like to meet the person making their decisions on their vegan burgers. Have they ever eaten their own vegan burgers as the staff makes them at the Steinen location? I'm not trying to be mean here. It's just frustration speaking, because I really used to like going there... So sorry, this is my very first negative google review.

They had RANCH! and it was pretty dang good/close to the real deal. I ordered the godfather burger which had mozzarella, arugula and was pleasantly surprised. It came as a recommendation from one of the workers. They offer different cooking grades for meat. He also recommended the sweet potato fries. They were delicious and wer seasoned with rosemary. Sauces recommended for my meal were the garlic parmesan and ranch. Both highly recommend, although the garlic parmesan was quite strong compared to the ranch. Just as a fyi for those who might think to combine or alternate eating between them as i did.

Wanted to try the current vegan burger of the month (Aladdin) after taking a break from visiting new shops in the city. The menu generally has choices mostly available all year round and monthly special selection, both vegan and non-vegan, which I find very nice to offer variety. Furthermore, all burgers can be obtained with a vegetable patty as alternative too. The ordering is done via selection of the meal (either burger alone or via menu, although I didn’t see any offer for discount like in Japan), then you get a pager which will beep once your burger is ready. I ordered Aladdin and rosemary fries with ice tea to go due to the temperature. While Aladdin is probably not the best choice to take when it’s hot outside due to how dry and spicy it is, even if mildly, the burger was quite tasty and the fries were great and came with a generous portion. There are many places to sit, and it gives the vibe of an American dinner with the coziness of an European setting. You can then bring back the tray and throw away the trash around the entrance, although the staff does pass around in case anyone doesn’t do this or leaves the trays outside. Overall very kind staff and very nice experience, good to visit to try the new varieties every month and maybe bring a friend or two during the weekend.

Absolutely delicious. Every time I go there, I know that it will taste amazing. That’s what I call standards. And when you think it couldn’t get any better, they surprise you with unlimited French fries.

Excellent burgers and the bottomless fries are heavenly. It tasted a bit oversalted. Our buzzer never rang since somehow they lost track of our order. We eventually identified it sitting on the counter.

We visited a sunny day sitting outside. The place is clean and well looked after. The menu is good with many options. Notice that there is no deserts to choose. The Manhattan burger was perfect, meat was medium-- which may be on the rawer side for some. The sweet potatoes were very tasty with spices (rosemary I believe). Union dinner can be very much recommend for a burger meal.

I've been there three times already. The food is delicious, but the place was very dingy. Not a single table was clean and some of them had dishes on them. No soap in the toilet to wash your hands... I think these days you can expect to eat at a cleanly wiped table. The Union Diner in Gundeli is the total opposite. Very clean. I'll just go there.

Great place for a quick but super tasty dinner. Compared to other places in the city, it allows you to eat at more modest prices thanks to the menu (assuming that you are in Switzerland anyway!)

A small place, the service is not done at the table, you take a drink from the shelf and the order is made at the door. What is interesting is that serving is done in old tin boxes, that is rustic. Slightly moderate prices. Sometimes you can't find a place.

The Clean Harry was really good, I can recommend that. The Green Book was way too saucy which made for a very soggy burger, yuck.

I've been here for at least 6-7 times throughout all the years. Probably one of the best chain burger places you can find in Basel that is also on pair with Hans im Glück. One thing I can say is that it never disapointed with their food as I've had all sorts of the burgers there. Service is alright since it's like a half self serve thing. Ambience is quite nice and cozy. (Will add photo the next time I visit)

I tried both here and Holy Cow across the road this week. Union wins hands down. Better interior design and ambience (great mix of music), friendly multi-lingual staff, but the burgers and fries are what you’re here for - you won’t be disappointed! They offer junior burgers (-CHF3, but to be honest I couldn’t see the difference to regular size) and fry refills. Very happy.

It was very tasty, and the fries with the baked rosemary sprinkles were so delicious :)
