Excellent place in the center of Zurich.

Latte macchiato tasted terrible and watery 😞and the lemon cake tasted like biting literally a lemon, impossible to eat.

Excellent bakery products with very friendly staff.

Prompt service, they have enough staff in front. I got a coffee, which was relatively good, a slice of pizza, which was completely undersalted and needed a bit more baking, and a chocolate croissant, which tasted great and was very soft. The seats inside the space are, of course, quite uncomfortable and few. There are enough of them outside, but if it's too cold, it's not recommended.

Pastries are good, but the drinks are really not drinkable. We ordered flat white, cappuccino and hot chocolate. None of them was good, the hot chocolate had even no chocolate taste.

The food and drinks are fine and expensive. I only give 1 star because the hygiene standards for the catering industry are obviously NOT known and are shamelessly rejected if the staff are made aware of it. Gel nails, touching the cups and glasses at the top edge where we as consumers place our lips to drink. Bangles and bracelets that are not disinfected... oh dear!

If you can wait longer for your coffee, you will be rewarded with solid quality.

Actually a good "store" in theory. The wholemeal spelled braid was awesome! Expensive, but sooo good, you treat yourself to it every now and then. The problem was always getting one that wasn't baked dark brown, but recently this has become impossible, at least every time I come the braids are black! I'm wondering why you don't just leave them in until you have coal? Maybe they would sell well too! We cut off the areas that were too dark, but that's not really great given the price, and by now you'd probably have to throw away 70%. Have you never heard of acrylamide? It's a shame about what was once a good product.

Best bread in Switzerland! French sourdough is perfect.

Excellent crossoints and a delicious cappuccino. Has a very nice vibe and great that you can see the bakery workers at the front of house. Friendly staff also make this a good little breakfast spot.

Yesterday I went here for the first time. I got one monatsbrötli (with potatoes and thyme) to share with my children and we all loved it SO much that I had to go back to buy a lot more. I have to say: this was the BEST bread I have EVER had in my life. I hope they will still have it next month 😊

We both had sandwiches, mine was topped with feta & pea pesto/coleslaw. I had a cappuccino with it. I'm used to good sourdough breads from Germany, but this was excellent. Even the cappuccino was wonderfully aromatic. Yes, the prices are incredibly high. Still worth a visit. I'll be back!

Very good, but very, very expensive products. As a consumer, I pay in full for the alleged sustainability. Breads are about 100% more expensive than anywhere else. The employees don't seem really motivated, and they don't seem to care which customer went first when there was a lot of demand for take-away. “Hipster” service, as mentioned below - without comment of course - fits well. It's a shame, but unfortunately not my thing.

We were helped quickly, very friendly staff. Super tasty sandwiches and croissants. The croissants baked with cheese are especially delicious! Fresh and well flavoured. The sandwiches, without meat, are also creative and very tasty

My go-to bakery in the city. Love love the variety of pastries. My fav is def the brownie and the safran pastry. Also great central location:))

Great choice of delicious pastries, the brioche, the vanilla croissant and the raisin swirl were all delicious. Some outdoor seating is available on the lively Bahnhofstrasse. But the coffee tastes really bad - we tried espresso macchiato, cappuccino and iced coffee and we unanimously hated them... Allegedly the chai latte was good, but we didn't try it. Nevertheless, it's good place for a quick bite

I love this place! Amazing people who work there, the whole industrial, open vibe. Delicious bread and other pastries. I always take my guests there. Location, atmosphere, people… Big recommendation.

Modern and clean bakery with a good variety of selfmade baked goods. I liked the fact that you can directly look into the kitchen and the baking procedure. The croissant I had was filled with a vanilla-lemon custard, which was delicious, but the croissant itself was very flaky. Overall a nice experience, I’ll come over again and give the other products a try !

I bought a take-out cafe. The staff was very friendly and I was able to start my trip to Zurich in a great mood. The takeout cups were also cute.

Amazing location, the coffee machine is super (la marzocco) the cashier was very friendly, but the barista, unfortunately, needs to refresh the rules how to make cappuccino, temperature too high and the creme of cappuccino was full of bubbles

Best pain au Chocolat in the city

Everything is just right here. The bread products are not only ready to eat after several days but also retain their taste and deliciousness. The patisserie is also of a high standard and the best cream slices are from JB.

Overall, I recommend John Baker to anyone who is passionate about high-quality, sustainable ingredients in their food.

Bread is good. Not sure about the production conditions at this outlet as: - no headpieces in the production at all (be it men or women); - same goes for beard. Looks hot on men, but all of this nice body hair ends up in our food; - delivery/suppliers people from the street are entring the production in the outdoor clothes and shoes. Even it is allowed and/or overlooked by local authorities, could be upgraded. After all what you have here it is a food production facility where the hygienic requirements have to be as everywhere else at mass/industrial production.

Bad, arrogant "hipster" service

The cappuccino was expensive and unfortunately only lukewarm at best. I expect perfectly brewed coffee at this bakery. The bread was delicious as always.

Good baked goods The products are delicious but still the last time on Bahnhofstrasse. Very reasonable prices. You have to laboriously balance the ordered baked goods out to the table, which is then completely dirty. At this price, I find the sign on the table telling you to please clear your dishes to be an impertinence, even on Bahnhofstrasse. The tourists next to me were also completely taken aback. This damages Zurich’s reputation. Since personal feedback from me wasn't desired, I'll just write it on the Internet.

The bread and coffee are both delicious, and the blond man with dimples in the store has a charming smile, which makes the food even more delicious.

This place hs the best coffee I have ever tried in my entire life so far. Sometimes it is not as good as other times, but overall - really high level. The pastries are very good as well. There is not much place inside though, but it's not that big of a deal. I keep coming back here pretty often. One thing I'd like to note is that I'm kinda lacking on menu options that contain meat. Some kind of a ham and cheese sandwich would fit very well I believe

Only been once but go for the baked goods, skip the drinks. Cornetto and baguette were very good. The cappuccino was weak, tasted like milk with only a hint of espresso. Service for my take away order was excellent.

no idea about customer service... only one of the 4 employees was very friendly... and that was the gentleman with blonde hair... I ask myself where I can/should put it, the lady who was busy repairing the coffee machine looks clueless and says not GRATEFUL I should just put it down… once and never again..

I absolutely love this place and the energy there. The bread is always fresh, lots of vegan options and mostly organic. The stuff is very friendly.

We tried the baguette and pain au chocolat thinking it would differ from bread you can buy at the supermarket but it turned out very disappointing :( The baguette was very white and hard and it had no particular flavor. The pain chocolat was the same, nothing special and a bit hard. Do not recommend, you can buy better bread in Zürich.

Excellent location within easy reach of the famous bakery. There are many varieties of bread and leavened desserts to choose from, even small ones. The products are good and of excellent quality, the rye bread with sourdough is very good. You can also find yogurt and bircher, as well as different types of coffee

Haters gonna hate, but this is an amazing location by John. Amazing espresso, favorite bread and pastries that always brings a new touch. Hands down the best espresso in Zurich. I even feel the staff here is friendlier :)

Already visited several times and had a good impression. However, when paying, you have to make sure that you don't pay more than it costs. But the worst part was passing by on the tram in the morning. The employee throws Zigi on the floor, enters the restaurant and immediately pats the dough to see if it is good. Uii no, better not anymore 😬😵‍💫

Ate pain au raisin and saffron rolls this morning, then actually just got a cream slice in the evening. Everything is very fine! I much prefer the cream slice in terms of consistency and taste to that of Honold and Sprüngli. I didn't notice the hygiene thing, as someone previously reported, so I have to pay attention

A wide range of bread and rolls has something of a hipster shop about it. An open bakery. There were also baked goods and they tasted good, coffee and other drinks were perfect! We took a nut bread with us, it was delicious. But the area around it...it's Bahnhofstrasse and there are a few tables on the sidewalk, but there's no feeling of pleasure. A bit like "well, everything else is occupied, then we'll go here". Overall, quite okay. Bread and rolls are very good, staff is very friendly, train station street prices. When it rains I wonder where I want to sit inside. It only has a concrete block and they don't look comfortable. Apparently they want a lot of walk-in customers who buy the slightly more expensive bread and then leave.

this place deserves a higher rating, got a kardamom schecke and an oat milk latte (which i was in search of for so long) both wonderful and authentic if a tony out pricey. very friendly staff

The bread bought was OK, but not worth the fuss/price over normal supermarket (Coop) bread. Not worth the premium price. If you want better bread, I’d recommend Honold nearby.

I feel like this location is lacking a lot of character that other locations have. Pastries are most of the time burned like lemon tart i had last time, 6.5 chf for less then you get at Helvetiaplatz. Coffee is a hit or miss. Depends on the barista. I feel like the only one who has clue about coffee is the blond girl with tattoos, when I ordered a flat white with oat under her absence the coffee was undrinkingable. Also no information they serve regular milky beverages with raw milk..

Well so far. Am satisfied. However, the situation is a bit too noisy. The trams run constantly and cleaning trucks from the city of Zurich come from 7 a.m. onwards. So it's better if you come from around 9 a.m. There is also seating in the interior where you no longer hear the noises from outside, but these concrete blocks are probably an imposition to sit on. And what's more important, please make sure that the staff wears hairnets and packs the goods with gloves but not with bare fingers!

The Hipster-Beck now also on Bahnhofstrasse. Baked goods average, prices are high and staff friendly. Unfortunately, hygiene was inadequate for me: order taken on a dirty tray, coin collected and then bread packed directly without tongs.

Good day, Last Saturday we bought a dark nut bread and plaited bread for Sunday brunch Both served. To the surprise of the guests, the bread and plaited bread was already hard and inedible when it was ready to be cut and eaten?! Did we have a “bad luck baking day”?! Great facility, great service Nevertheless, both my pain au chocolat and my iced coffee were AGAIN almost inedible. The pain au chocolat tasted burnt and was very sticky. The iced coffee couldn't be beaten in terms of bitterness. All in all: a visit is suitable as an “emergency solution”, otherwise it is not recommended.

Best breads hands down! Had an Oat Iced Chai Latte which was amazing. Not too sweet which i love and a big size too!

Good bread and nice staff, but you shouldn't have had the wrong rolls in the bag for the second time in a few days You have to control things, maybe the music is a little quieter, you understand the customers better... of course it's not so hip anymore.

Z'rugg to craft: The rye bread is a delight, but also the baguette from the John Baker Bahnhofstrasse bakery. Really good and natural taste. A powerful bread from baked sun. Just the crust could be a little crisper.

The bread seems less good than in the other locations, seems like they still need to improve processes. Sales personnel is clearly less professional as well, they were chatting while a long line of customers was waiting.

From Hygienic viewpoint, it still requires lot of improvement! The sales people don’t wear gants etc

Medium quality pastries at central location. Tried the Chocolate Croissant, Cardamom Swirl, and Raisin-Creme Swirl. Overall, the pastries were dry and not executed well enough to bring out the indulgent qualities that one would expect from good pastries. The Croissant wasn’t particularly buttery or fluffy. The chocolate inside was overly bitter and didn’t create a cohesive flavor profile. The Cardamom Swirl lacked cardamom. It was over-baked (especially at the bottom) creating a slightly burned flavor profile, which was not pleasant. The Raisin-Creme Swirl was overly sweet. Both the dough and sugar glazing was too sweet, yet it didn’t have enough Creme and was as well dry. For pastries, there are better options in town.

Hygiene standards? No? Bread and other things are baked and dough is kneaded without a hair net or gloves? Employees with long, loose hair and beards work at home as if they were in their own kitchen. You can also watch the whole thing through the windshield. So that was the last purchase for me.

I happened to stop by this bakery on a rainy day. The bread was delicious and the coffee was delicious.
