Malabar in Zürich

I've been to the restaurant a few times and the food has always been very good. On this visit too, everything was great in terms of cuisine, but the waiter left a bitter aftertaste with his aggressive sales tactics. He kept trying to sell us alcohol and when we specifically said we didn't want dessert, he still handed us the card and asked several times. Unpleasant, at these prices you expect more from the service.

Swiss 2.0 Best Indian restaurant in Zurich, it wins hands down. The Malabar fish is so well done. Both veg and non-veg biriyani are good to taste. Loved the prawn curry. All the food tastes fresh. The staff is extremely sweet, always so considerate towards our toddler which makes it a super child friendly place. Decor is simple yet nice. I have gone to this place so many times and will go back again n again. Shout out for the Team👍

The lunch buffet is not bad, all you can eat is 24 yuan per person. If you are near Oerikon, you can stop by for a meal. I like to eat Indian food very much, and this Indian restaurant is the best one I have eaten in Zurich so far😋! Highly recommended 👍!

Good and tasty Indian food with a variety of options to choose from

NOT at all for Indian customers ::: Sorry, Lot of issues: 1. Google is showing the working time till 12.00 midnight but staff said Hot kichen is only working till 9.45pm. Even you can't repeat your order after 9.50pm. Staff said that they can't update the timings bcz google charges for the same and they can't afford it. 😊 2. You can only have drinks and deserts after 9.45pm to 12.00 midnight. 3. They are proclaimed for having local customers only, like Indian customers don't matter for the same. 4. Taste is average, not too good. No complimentary salads, pickle & onion nothing. 5. This is not only our experience, after us other customers also came and made the same complaint for the timings mentioned in google.

Very tasty food, competent and friendly service - all in all great!

This Indian restaurant is one of the best. A large selection of vegan food (as well as vegetarian or meat) The service is brilliant, helpful and courteous.

The Malabar restaurant offers a pleasant ambiance and maintains a clean environment. The food is delicious, but the portions are on the smaller side. Unfortunately, the high prices don't align well with the serving sizes. While the experience was good, the value for money leaves much to be desired, making it unlikely for a return visit. friendly restaurant compared to other.we ate porotta and chicken nilgiri which was extremely good.they provides a lot of variety of food, especially we get a lot of malabar flavored food from here.an i like the style of serving the most spacious and beautiful ambiance, everything was nice and i had a nice experience

The best! The lunch buffet on Wednesday and Thursday is simply unbeatable: everything fresh, everything delicious, everything at an incredibly affordable price. Plus the best naan you can get. Even what you can order at other lunchtimes or in the evening has been of consistently high quality for years.

South Indian elementary cuisine. Hospitable courteous service. Price/performance just about right. Fr.5.00 for a simple chappati is just too much.

The team on staff were very open, friendly and respectful. They graciously provided recommendations and explained the food accompaniments when the food arrived. The shared appetiser was so delicious (particularly the pieces with the tamarind sauce and the avocado/mango salad) that I would order this again and again! We also ordered a lamb Thalia to share and between the two of us plus a garlic naan and a serving of sour cream ice cream, we were barely able to leave the restaurant! I would have been tempted by the Kardamom creme brulee on the specials menu but could not fit a single bite more. I was impressed with the staff, the food and the warm ambiance both inside and on the approach from outside. I would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant and am already planning my next visit. Oh, and the house cocktail was also refreshing, delicious and beautifully served.

Absolutely worth every rappen! Amazing food, amazing service. Try going when it isn’t busy so you can actually enjoy both the ambience and taste of the delicacy. Amazing! Will do it all over again and again.

Malabar is a great Indian restaurant. it is consistently winning awards for good reason. the food is very tasty with a good ambiance, especially the 4 tables at the entry of the restaurant are very cosy. we shared some starters and main dishes, all fresh all equally tasty and accompanied it with a nice Gewurtztraminer! all for a very reasonable Price. Highly recommended

The food was delicious. Very versatile and rich menu. Spiciness level well explained and adjusted accordingly. Highly recommended to visit. We are regulars here.

Always love going there. Quality of food is high, service people are amazing. The quality of naan is great, restaurant ambience is so relaxing. I have a 4 star instead of 5 star as being a North Indian this restaurant has very South Indian taste. It’s nice for me also to eat this but when I crave a North Indian style chicken curry, it just doesn’t offer that… no matter how many types of dishes I try.

Awesome food. Their malabari fish is a must try. I’ve tried them 3 years back and went back twice in this week. Their taste hasn’t changed much.

Not worth the price in terms of quality and quantity. The experience was worse because we were given the seat in front of the toilet even when the 90% of the places were free. The worst part was it was smelling when someone opened the toilet door

We were allowed to eat outside on the cozy garden terrace, it was pleasantly quiet there (unfortunately that was pretty much the only good point). Unfortunately, the two men who served us that evening were unfriendly and unsympathetic. We ordered extra mild, but the cashew tomato sauce with tofu was still spicy. At 28 CHF it wasn't exactly cheap (it was just a cereal bowl full of sauce, without meat or vegetables) and the naan bread and rice cost an additional 5 CHF each on top of that. There are definitely better restaurants near the Hallenstadion!

Very good food, location worth seeing again

One of the best Indian restaurant in Switzerland. The onam celebration they hosted was fantastic. The food was so delicious and the service was also outstanding. I would greatly recomend this restaurant to all.

The four of us arrived at the Malabar restaurant early on a Sunday evening without a reservation. We were kindly shown to a table and very soon we were allowed to order. Two out of four people ordered a starter and a main course. The other two ordered a large main course together to share. When we placed this order, the male waitress smiled condescendingly at us and pointed out that this wasn't a correct order and wasn't enough for dinner. After all, they have a lot to do! We stuck with our order and got it. Since we also ordered alcoholic drinks, the bill ended up being almost CHF 200.00. Unfortunately we didn't feel we were treated with respect. The food, on the other hand, was tasty but not so exceptional that you would want to experience such a treatment again. That's why we won't go there again.

The mixed grill plate from the lunch menu was delicious and the mocktail was also super tasty and refreshing. It is comfy to sit in the garden for a relaxing summer noon. Can only recommend it!

Food was not tasty and unauthentic

It's not tasting in anyway indian food, service was a new indian server, not aware of the dishes, overall we will not come again.

This place is incredible, so glad I walked the block from the hotel instead of eating at the hotel restaurant. The atmosphere and food are both awesome. Do yourself a favor and eat here, you will not regret it!

Went there to eat before the theater 11, the food was really good but somehow that certain something was missing, at least with the chicken niligiri I ordered. Rather expensive for what it really is.

I’m very sorry. But it wasn’t worth it whatsoever. Prices are way to high for what they serve. The naan is made by hand in house so they say. Nice thing for sure but half of the naan is burnt and dry and not soft like naan. The vegetarian thali had a nice saag paneer dish in the middle. Everything else surrounding didn’t really taste that good. See photo with food in the silver platter. The highlight was the chicken dish supposedly a family recipe. For the low low price of almost 40 CHF all you get is an empty plate and a tiny bowl with chicken and sauce. That is an absolute rip off. 2 small water, one mango lassi, 2 garlic naan and the dishes ran us over 100 CHF. I mean what gives? Then I get asked if I want rice to that poor poor tiny bowl of chicken and the rice and that was charged with 5 CHF. While the Ambiente was nice and staff was friendly. They also took over 30 minutes to serve our order. They are super slow. That and the truly mediocre taste and frankly poor plating when it comes to the chicken is just too much. Won’t go there again. And I find the prices are way to high for what they serve.

Authentic food, very friendly service and great to be able to eat outside in the garden.

We reserved a table for a Saturday evening. The restaurant was full. The service was good and quick. The food could have had a little more taste. We parked in a blue zone not far from the restaurant, otherwise the parking space is available from there Theater 11.

I cook better than chef of this restaurant. Find other authentic Indian restaurants for your dinner.

I went to Malabar for lunch and absolutely loved their food! With a friend we tried the lamb curry and the vegetarian thali and everything was delicious. I will be back!

I was here for Onam food. Unfortunately, while we were waiting, Madhu reprimanded us quite severely because we still had children's drinking cups in our hands. “That kind of thing is not tolerated here,” he growled at us and without waiting for an answer he disappeared again. His wife was more understanding here. It was well over 33 degrees and not bearable without liquid, so we didn't understand his reaction. The food was rather below average and unfortunately almost industrially processed. I think they just didn't finish and didn't make any effort in the end. the restaurant was full. we had almost whole vegetables in the sambar. For the hefty price of over 75 per person, the overall experience was rather disappointing. There are definitely more authentic restaurants in Zurich. no recommendation or repetition on my part.

An extraordinary experience! Nice waiters, honest place, food a great surprise and wine list just right.

By far the best Indian food I've eaten so far. Reasonable prices for Zurich (a little under 30 francs for a main course) and a fabulous starter platter for two that I can warmly recommend to anyone with any company. Sometimes variants with a “Swiss twist” (like curry with deer), but above all incredibly delicious Indian cuisine, both mild and spicy. If you want to meet an Indian in Zurich, you should go to Malabar.

Perfect service and delicious cuisine. The interior has a lot of interesting details, the waiters are friendly and polite. Purely. Disadvantage: it's cramped. The distance between the tables for two is extremely small, making it difficult to carry on a conversation with your companion and not be distracted by your neighbors.

This is my third time visiting this authentic Indian food restaurant. The atmosphere is Indian. It is recommended that you book a table. Before arriving, especially at dinner time, the place is beautiful and spacious, and the service is good. Some pressure on the waiter from the large number of people. waiter. He was Indian. Really friendly I liked it. His style. I requested my own dish and this request was accepted. Thank them for their food service. It was really good. Biryani. It was delicious. I had the Onam sadya in September 2022 and it was incredible! The food and their hospitality both were great. Definitely recommended.

Malabar in the name and no Dosa, no kerala parota.... It is a good Indian Restaurant. I ordered mix starters as snack, which was very tasty but apparently tea got served before the snacks, so couldn't enjoy both, while they both were very good.

Went early on an afternoon for lunch and couldn't resist ordering Chaat. The vegetarian option of pakoras with avocado mango and their unique spin on paani puri did not disappoint. Such intricate flavours plated so beautifully blended well with the ambiance and the music being played. Two thumbs up !

Hands down best Indian food in Zürich, service was friendly and efficient as well, we'll certainly come back with a bigger party so we can try more dishes :-) Prices are in line with the food's quality and the restaurant being in Switzerland, as simple as that.

The Malabar in the center of Örlikon towards the Hallenstadion is one of the most excellent Indian restaurants in the Zurich region. This applies to the ambience, the service and especially the food. I can highly recommend the thalis with all the different side dishes. Friends had curries or tandoori specialties and were equally enthusiastic. In the warmer seasons, a garden with colorful lights invites you to linger. Great restaurant, always happy again!

The service was great, but the food wasn't special at all. The mixed starter plate looked quite fancy and very tasty, but the lamb Thali and Chicken Tikka Masala were bland, not the taste you would expect of Tikka Masala.

Somewhat different Indian restaurant, with great quality food, elevated atmosphere and service. Suitable for a business lunch or dinner. I personally definitely prefer it to usual Indian bistros around Zurich. They also have Indian wine on the list, which turned out to be quite nice.

After ordering it took one hour to bring one dish out. The waiter was very very rude from the start. The food was 7/10 for authentic taste. Vegetarian Thali was soooooo bland. Plenty of other authentic Indian restaurants with delicious food and FRIENDLY STAFF.

Great tasting authentic Indian food. Decided to try this place after passing by a few times. We were a little lucky as it seems it can be difficult to get a table if you don’t’ reserve. The look and feel inside was quite basic, and I think you can still see the pizza oven from a past life of the restaurant. There’s a nice place to eat outside in good weather. The food was of very high quality. Exceptional taste, and very well presented. Be warned, when they say spicy, they mean it! We very much enjoyed our meal, but removed a star as the price didn’t seem to match what was delivered.
