Masala in Zürich

Pathetic service , I waited for more than an hour after ordering the food .

We went to Restaursnt Masala for dinner yesterday and ordered Chicken.Ticka Masala, Eggplant Curry and Garlic Naan. We couldn't eat both dishes! Both dishes were totally over salted! The chicken tika masala sauce wasn't good either. When we returned both dishes, they promised to cook us new dishes. When they came back a short time later, they asked us to try the dishes. But since we noticed that they were bringing us the same dishes again (and not bringing new dishes as promised), we rejected the dishes. Then they told us they would bring new dishes again. But we had had enough and just wanted to leave the restaurant. The waiter and boss apologized to us and we only had to pay for the drinks. We have been eating Indian food for years and I also cook Indian food myself. We felt like we were being fooled and were very disappointed! Unfortunately the worst Indian food we have eaten in a long time. Not recommended.

We were there for the first time yesterday and were very disappointed. We had registered to celebrate a birthday. First we were given a loveless table right at the entrance. (Although it still had plenty of seats). The vegan no chicken tikka tasted like nothing. No real spices and boring. My husband's chicken tikka masala was bland. The starter had a piece of plastic from the ready-made salad packaging in it! An approximately 2x10 cm piece! We told the waitress when we were clearing up. She just said: OK. The garlic naan barely had any garlic flavor. It had nothing to do with Indian food. (Since I lived in India for years, I can compare well) But the big disappointment was that they had forgotten my birthday. The lady at the next table received a piece of kitchen with a candle and a happy birthday song. They had completely ignored me. Although we signed up specifically for this. All in all a big disappointment. Costs a lot and offers neither good food nor good service. 😔 Really a shame. I was very sad.

I have been living in the area for 2 years. I am a foodie and I have visited the restaurant about 5 times in 2 years. My experience has never been wholesome. Of course it is super pricey. The quality does not justify the price. I ordered bhindi Masala which was undercooked and made out of frozen bhindi. Veg biryani has broccoli in it (?)! If you’re in town for a day, skip this place. If you live here, try maybe once and decide for yourself.

It was a really good experience. Starters were ok but the main dishes were delicious. Lots of options of the food without onions and garlic.

Definately the best Vegetarian Restaurant in Zürich and the best Indian Restaurant at the same time! The Food is absolutely delicious and the Staff is very helpful, attentative and very delightful!

Price performance ratio is not right for me. With an average menu without a starter and side dish you quickly end up at 45-50.- We were promised by the waiter that you wouldn't taste any difference between real meat and the soya-made substitute. But this was not the case. This has nothing to do with the taste of meat at all. The consistency is more reminiscent of sausage or roast. The various curries were enjoyable, but by no means special. The only thing that really stood out was the garlic flatbread. Save your money!

Hello, this is Chris's colleague with the 2 star rating. I find it a bottomless impudence. Chris reviews purely out of hunger for chicken. He is descended from Neanderthals and could not switch off his hunter instinct. So the food was delicious and the naan was excellent. Service was also very nice! Good for veggie lovers.

The food is a bit expensive and the portions are rather small, but it tastes excellent (the slightly spicy Vindaloo in particular is highly recommended); In addition, the service is very friendly and accommodating. The selection of vegan dishes is huge - while Indian chickpea and lentil dishes are delicious (and can also be found on their menu), we really appreciated trying other dishes that traditionally contain meat. The chicken alternative really impressed us! If we had known about this vegetarian-vegan oasis earlier, we would definitely have come several times...

Popped in for lunch with a friend and was surprised that it has turned vegan. Quiet since it was lunchtime but ver good tikka massala. A bit pricey for the main dish but quality nonetheless. Would recommend

On Wednesday, October 4th, we had a delicious meal at Masala Restaurant. The staff was also very friendly. Unfortunately, when we left the restaurant we forgot to take an envelope with money that was on the table. The next morning we immediately called the restaurant and left a message on the answering machine. It wasn't until Saturday evening, October 7th, that we were called back. Unfortunately, the gentleman on the phone was talking to himself and said that the envelope had been thrown away unopened. It's a shame because the food was good, but they've probably never heard of honesty.

I write as an Uber driver - they make a pick up point right in front of the restaurant and expect you to walk around the block through the back door to pick up a delivery... Here Masala. 1 star..

Reasonably priced and most of all: excellent food! I highly recommend it.

The place is old, the price is very high for the food served, the quantities are very small and full of spices, the restaurant is completely vegetarian, there is no chicken or meat, there is something similar to chicken made from soy, according to the words of the manager who followed them.

Food is not good cause they don’t provide real chicken similar to cheese and it’s too bad. I would rate this restaurant 2/10👎🏼 bad experience. To be honest, the food was not good and they told us that they have healthy chicken, but the meaning of healthy chicken is Indian cheese. I read the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor beforehand and went with great anticipation. These were exceeded. The No Chicken Masala was excellent and the service was extremely friendly and accommodating. My boyfriend and I love eating meat, but we didn't miss it that evening (and that means something for us😉). A real insider tip!

An Indian restaurant that is less than ordinary, “understand it,” and its prices are high, and it is not worth sitting in or visiting.

Ordered take away spontaneously. Felt well treated and food was quickly made. Waiter offered free water while I waited. Guests in the restaurant seemed to also enjoy it.

Menu very limited, most limited menu in an Indian restaurant I have ever seen. No papadam is given as a "pre-starter", also very unusual for Indian restaurants. The sauces were good but they do not provide many vegetables, odd since it is only a vegetarian restaurant. It is very expensive for such small dishes - a shared samosa and a main dish each with naan was barely enough for us for dinner and we are not big eaters, normally we go to restaurants like this with tupperware to take home the leftovers, especially if we are paying more than 80 francs for 2 people. Mango lassi was good.

PURE VEGETARIAN, awesome food, if you love spices you will need to tell the very friendly staff called Om to make it spicey and you will get the best dishes in the Swizerland. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a pure vegetarian Indian restaurant.

Teally tasty, but too expensive for what you get.. Prices increased more and more since we go there. A meal with two beers cost CHF 50.

The food was extremely spicy, but very filling and tasty. Service was good but had some language difficulties. Unfortunately, after dinner we didn't get any more coffee and were sent straight home because the restaurant was closing. At this point there were about 15-20 guests in the restaurant and we all offended you a bit.

Me and my friends had dinner there. Staff can't speak German. Overpriced food itself tastes quite good but overpriced the side dishes have to be ordered separately and the portion is small. Never again

I visited this restaurant second time. First time experience was great, second time it spoiled my entire evening. If you go through negative reviews, one common reason you find is - behaviour of staff. I see people mentioning about indifference towards Asian and non-asian people and rude talk by one specific person (I don't know the name). I had exactly similar experience second time I visited the restaurant. First I thought, may be I am overthinking, but no, most of the negative reviews are because of the bad behaviour of staff. Some suggestions for staff: 1. If there is something you can't do, say it politely, no need to bahave like some arrogant king. 2. You take ages to attend table, that's fine, may be you are too busy. But when someone takes time to change the order because you guys have certain rules, don't make faces and feel frustrated. 3. Say thank you to the people who visited your restaurant while they are living. At least have a look at them, may be they want say thanks to you. Don't be so ignorent. Finally, never gonna visit this restaurant again and will never recommend to anyone.

We had 3 different currys, and they did not taste indian. Curries were overloaded with sweetness. Very pricey, the meals don’t even come with rice. Service was friendly but food came very slow. Don’t recommend it!

Top menu with a large selection of all vegan dishes - with planted chicken, paneer or vegetables. Very nice atmosphere and very courteous, friendly staff. Only in the upper range in terms of price.

Unfortunately it's not an original Indian food. For me it wasn't satisfactory because I know Indian food. You also have to pay for the rice separately.

We were idiots and did not pay attention to the vegan and vegetarian marketing. We were just excited about finding Indian food after traveling through Italy for 3 weeks and having none. We ordered drinks and backed out of buying dinner and the staff handled it very professionally. We felt bad but it just wasn't what we were looking for.

Lunch Buffet is very good! Big assortment of plates. For take away the Vegan-Based Chicken Bombay roll is also very good, spicy & delicious!

I was there with my family, we had an worst experience. Food was tasteless. Worst part was there service. They have different views for south Asian and GOREY, as if South Asia are there to eat in free. I will never recommend there food and there service to anyone. They are the worst. Forget to mention> they have the worst Garlic Naan.

The place is pure vegetarian idle for Jains and people who avoid eating in multi cuisine restaurants. It’s a little pricey but then, what’s not in Swiss !! The staff is very friendly, gives an honest guidance of what to eat and what not. A must try.

Mr.Fernandes helped us a day before we came for dinner with places around and next day when we were for dinner, he served us one of best meal. Do try for Indian cuisine.

If you want excellent Indian specialties without a guilty conscience, Masala Zurich is the right place. From start to finish it was a fantastic experience and a culinary delight. The staff is totally friendly and competent. And the best thing is that no animals have to die to enjoy the finest Indian food.

One of the most disappointing Indian restaurants I've been to. The plates were very small, everything had a huge surcharge (like 6 CHF for a small basket of garlic naan). Vegetarian options only, which I've never seen at an Indian restaurant before, which meant their menu was very small, by far the smallest I've ever seen in an Indian place. I guess if they do a few dishes very well that could be OK, and the food was fine, but really very small. Paying 30 CHF for a small plate of "NotChicken" or whatever their fake meat was called is high, even for what I expected in Zurich. Basically the worst value-for-price I've ever had in an Indian restaurant. The sauce was quite good, but I didn't care for the veggies or anything else really.

The food was good but the behavior of the staff was not appropriate. We are Jains and my parents don't eat onion and garlic. Since all the curries had onion and garlic we had to order curd and Paratha which was fine. The taste of both was good but since the order turned out only for 10 Francs the staffs treatment was disrespectful towards us. We were not even given a plate to eat in and to use the wifi we were told to pay 20 Franc per person.

Very impressed with the cuisine, service and ambience at this vegetarian North Indian restaurant. We especially enjoyed the Onion Bhaji and Dal Shorba for starters, and the paneer korma and paneer tikka masala curries. The naans were also really good. Thanks and we’ll be back again soon!

Restaurant charged me 4% transaction fee without letting us know ahead of time. Food was not good at all. Way overpriced.

Expect tomato soup, not tikka masala. And will charge cc fees without your letting you know.

Horrible & Awful food and top of that they charge you different kind of fees( credit card transactions fees) without your consent.

We visited Masala at lunchtime and found it very quiet and pleasant. As long-term vegans, we found a large selection of vegan dishes. After a lot of headaches, hungry and already impatient, we decided on a few different dishes. Everything tasted great and we tried each other out and we would definitely go again.
