Thank you for an amazing experience. The food is absolutely delicious. Best Japanese food in Zurich. From the starters (Tempura Squid, grilled shitake mushrooms) to the grilled salmon and ending with the Macha Ice cream with sweet Azuki beans. And to finish the plum wine. Will come back again.

As far as we know, only Japanese chefs cook here: it shows. Top quality, beautifully implemented! Service is incredibly professional. Always with a smile. We particularly liked the eel, at 58 CHF it was pricey - but it's also top quality! Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were allowed to sit down! P.S. The restaurant has an incredibly large and great selection of sake! It was a great atmosphere for us as guests.

Excellent food, team and ambiente. We are recurring guests who love the surprise menu (that changes every 6 weeks), and last night was particularly great. Creamy miso soup with lobster bits, wagyu beef in a dark broth with onsen egg and truffle shaings, pure salmon from the robato grill, and much more.

The service was good; the dining space was comfortable; the food quality and taste were okay, but the miso soup was not hot. It's quite average, nothing particularly amazing. Although the lunch price is cheaper than dinner, compared with other Zurich restaurants, it is considered a high-end restaurant. Due to rising prices, the price of business lunches has also increased a bit. For such a meal price, the chopsticks are disposable and the quality is not very good. You have to be careful not to get pricked by bamboo chips when eating. This restaurant is suitable for diners who have a treat, have a sufficient dining budget, and love exquisite Japanese presentation.

The best Japanese in the city - again and again. The absolute highlight: Wagyu nigiri! Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Japanese tradition in Zurich. Excellent authentic restaurant, the seven course Tokubetsu Kaiseki menu was rich and very tasty. The flavors transported us to Tokyo for a dinner. Attentive and helpful service. Nice environment.

Excellent authentic Japanese food. The fish was as fresh as we rarely get in Zurich. The service was also excellent, well-trained staff. I ate a zukedon, sushi rice with fresh raw fish and avocado.

📝 I tried this restaurant with a friend and can really recommend it to anyone for its great food and good service: if you want to have a taste of Japan, here's your place. 🍴 We ordered assorted sashimi, unagi and ebi tempura: all was excellent. They have a very good and varied menu, next time I will try sukiyaki which you don't find very often on Zurich! 📍 Only two minutes away from the HB central station, it can be easily reached from anyone in Zurich.

Very helpful staff and the new owner Lawrence is very friendly, and is trying to carry on Sala’s legacy very well! Authentic Japanese flavours! Nevertheless, those who had the pleasure of meeting Sala would know her smile and aura is irreplaceable and will always be missed! 💕

I went with omakase sushi + standard sashimi and was very happy with the choice — the fish was fresh & tender and the rice was just right. The cheesecake was okay, as well as the coffee. The prices were higher than average, probably because of the Michelin guide. Nevertheless, it got the highest rating for sushi from my side in Zurich.

Lunch is still expensive but you get a close enough experience to a mid-end Japanese restaurant. We had premium chirashi and nigiri omakase and they were both fresh and decent portions. All in all this is a great choice if you're missing the land of the rising sun a bit too much today.

The sushi rolls at Sala of Tokyo are works of art and taste as good as they look.

Great restaurant. The Kaiseki, a Japanese menu we ate, begins with a beautiful autumnal appetizer variation (featuring arguably the best pumpkin soup in town). Then we continue with delicious sashimi, tempura, wagyu, a sushi plate that borders on perfection. Finally there was a matcha creme brulee. The team also addressed our intolerances. The sake pairing with the menu had a few surprises. The wine and sake menu is also impressive. We will be back! We recommend the restaurant to everyone who is already familiar with Japanese cuisine or wants to become one.

I was a guest with my daughter. The online reservation worked effortlessly. We received exemplary service. Where necessary, the staff explained the menus to us. The food was heavenly. It is an expensive restaurant, but in return you get excellent dishes and a very pleasant atmosphere. Gladly again!

It was a very special day, which Sala of Tokyo more than lived up to. The dishes really appealed to our palate (the A5 Wagyu steak in particular was incredibly good), and the sake accompaniment was an adequate match for the courses presented. The staff was very courteous and extremely friendly. It was a unique experience that we look back on very fondly.

The fact that is only a small amount of people allowed to dine in this restaurant, made this place very intimate and personal. We still could talk without feeling overcrowded and loud. The food were 5 stars made from heaven. A bit pricey but you pay the quality. So if you want to celebrate something, it’s a great place to go.

Good just short of great. Felt the sushi moriawase short changes because of the amount of salmon used in the assortment. If I had known I'd have gone for a la carte, paid a little more but gotten more variety. I had not eaten the whole day so still got a few a la carte nigiri after.

Even though my date almost fell in love with the handsome restaurant owner, the food and service were excellent. Finally an authentic Japanese restaurant where only real, learned people work. Bravo!

Delicious Eel (Unagi), melted in mouth! Tomago sushi and miso was fresh, and had hojicha tea and matcha ice cream to finish. Highlight was the brilliant service from Natalie, the head waitress. She made my experience there memorable!

The food is excellent. The prices are accordingly, e.g. 68.- for a Chirashi, but it is also simply - by far - the tastiest and most authentic Japanese restaurant in the city. For me, the prices that are so often complained about here are right because you get good quality for it. This has become quite a rarity. However, I agree with the others and find the service very dry and downright unloving. In general, I don't find the atmosphere in the restaurant warm or inviting. You really go for the food.

Very modest and loveless service at absurd prices (compare the identical dishes in the noodle restaurant right next door at half the price). Rented the small hall with guests - an experience to be ashamed of.

The high quality of the fish as well as the sauce and wasabi is a big plus. The sashimi almost melts in your mouth when eaten. The selection for delivery seems to be limited to three types of fish, so there is no diversity if bowl and sushi contain the same fish. The full taste experience cannot be satisfied with delivery, but a visit is necessary.

The Kaiseki Menu at Sala of Tokyo is a must! It is so delicious and presents a perfect blend of traditional Japanese dishes. If you've never had kaiseki before, then this restaurant is definitely worth a visit

The restaurant owner / manager is very rude, very expensive but the food is so so. If you are the first time go there be prepared for a unkind welcome. He didn’t want give us a table only give us a counter in the corner. When you tell him this is not what I want , he said , if you don’t like this conter comer you can leave ! What an arrogant and unprofessional manager ! I will never go back again to spend money and get insulted

I expected much more based on the good reviews and the comparatively high price. The service is friendly but hardly trained. The quality and taste of the food was sometimes very good but sometimes just mediocre. The atmosphere in the restaurant is not really inviting and does not invite you to linger. All in all disappointing.

I am saddened to say that I am very disappointed with the entirety of the service and food at Sala of Tokyo. This restaurant is extremely overrated and exceptionally over priced. I sent back a plate with market price toro (which ended up being a meatier different cut) because the flavor was off and I noticed this immediately. The server was attempted politeness- admitting that it was “not that fatty toro and a different cut of the fish” and that she doesn’t like it either” but didn’t offer to replace my meal and she seemed rushed. Who I am assuming is the “chef or manager” eventually ran out of the kitchen to exclaim what we think we an apology?? (in very strong swiss German which neither my or my German speaking husband could understand) but still, I was not offered anything else to eat to replace my meal. I would not recommend eating here, the $ sign absolutely does not represent the quality. I can make just as good of shrimp tempura at home that doesn’t cost 45 chf

We were served in the private room. Great experience. Authentic food and friendly service. We loved the sake selection.

I heard about this place from someone in Tokyo so I assumed it would be great. It was really good!!!! The sencha was amazing and a great signal that the meal would be too! I got the Bento box and it had everything to make me happy. The only thing I would say is the lady in charge barely cracked a smile and I could see she wasn’t a joyful leader with the staff. But the staff and servers were wonderful and respectful.

Rolling your eyes at special requests or cleaning up after 10:30 p.m. are no-goes in this price segment. However, the quality of the food is beyond question. The surprise menu scores points with its diversity. Here too, the waitress should know what is coming from the kitchen. The triple sake accompaniment was perfect. As a sushi lover, the hamachi (Japanese amberjack), the tamago (egg omelette) and the flambéed wagyu nigiri were a highlight. The shakeavomaki (salmon and avocado as makimono) were quite good, but the kanicalifornia rolls (crab, avocado) were a bit bland. The uni-gunkan nigiri (sea urchin) was very intense in taste. The black sesame ice cream and the yuzu cheesecake (very creamy) are recommended as desserts. Overall, a great evening in a lovely restaurant with room for improvement in the service.

Known as one of the most expensive Japanese restaurants, our expectations were high, but unfortunately not met. While the food was delicious, the service was not up to the standard. It’s easy to spend 250 Francs (35’500 JPY) per Person with little alcohol, but the whole dinner is served like being at “Mister Wong”: obviously the staff had no formal training, pouring too much soy sauce, serving from the wrong side, unsure what’s on the plate (“some Japanese vegetable”), unfamiliar with basic Japanese terms for food, alcohol, or chopsticks. Seems like the place exploits its former glory of the prior, meanwhile passed-away owner. Either hire professional waiters or lower your prices by half. Meanwhile I recommend going to another of the now plentiful Japanese restaurants in Zurich, where price/value is not out-of-balance.

We went there with a group of six and all of us took the Kaiseki menu. Altogether I was very underwhelmed with the whole experience. Don't get me wrong, quality of the ingredients was great... but not a single dish that really wowed me. Everything was so-so. The waiter also seemed somewhat uniformed and inattentive. For the price I would expect more. In all regards.

The best sushi in Zurich. Even though it's always busy, the staff works hard and manages to get everything freshly prepared and on the table on time. If there are minor delays, as a guest you will not only receive an apology from the waiter but also sometimes a digestive on the house from the chef de service. All in all, definitely worth a visit. It is advisable to take a quick look at the prices beforehand, as they are not exactly cheap (good is not cheap)

I'm usually disappointed when I eat Japanese food overseas, but it felt like I was eating it in Japan. The taste, the hospitality, everything is Japanese style. You can enjoy your meal in a very relaxing atmosphere.

Great service, fresh variety of options for you to choose from. Walking distance from my hotel and they were very accommodating when I needed to order quickly to return back to the office. Definitely a must try. Sashimi and sushi rolls are a must try.

I was expecting Michelin, but it's a pity. If you have tried seafood in a country with the sea such as Korea and Japan, I recommend not to go. It's a great restaurant in Switzerland, but if you're from the people from the aforementioned country or experienced it, you'll say it's really bad. And the hair comes out of the food, so I think it will remain a bad memory.

The food is good, service ok BUT the setup needs improvement. They sit us in the section across the main dining room with substantially less decoration and kitchen noises. It was very difficult to talk and enjoy the CHF $200 7-course dinner.

We went here for our anniversary dinner and took the Kaiseki menu (tasting menu). The whole experience was a mixed bag: - some dishes were really tasty, like the tuna and butterfish sashimi, the egg and the okra tempura, the wagyu dipped in shabushabu broth and the eel Nigri - others were disappointing, the shrimp for the tempura was clearly not fresh, the tuna maki disappointing, and the fried soy rice with lobster too oily. - the rest was ok, but nothing too exciting Most disappointing was the rice. Rice stands as the foundation of many japanese dishes and honestly the one served here was sub par. All in all this could be an ok Japanese restaurant especially considering the general low quality of japanese cuisine in Switzerland. However due to the high price and honestly mediocre service I'd advise to steer clear.

This restaurant is a Zurich institution, if memory serves me right, the first sushi place many, many moons ago. They have moved to a more central, modern place, just off Bahnhofstrasse and have lovely outside dining in summer. My friend took me there for my birthday as it is pricey. A cocktail with gingerbrew and sake was served, perfectly chilled and totally delicious on a warm summer evening. Give me more! I then had their miso aubergines which I just adore, so so delicious and as a main course, a big portion of sushi. 12 pieces = CHF 62. I expected fireworks, dancing girls, god knows what for that price. I found it worrysome that the fish was at room temperature when it is 28 degrees outside. Has this been stored safely? It was o.k. and I didn't get food poisoning but ... somehow, I expected more. Mochis were delish and a great night was had.

The quality of sushi/sashimi was slightly better than other sushi restaurants in Zürich. However, I am not sure its quality & quantity justifies its price. For instance, one piece of fatty tuna sushi was 15CHF and the size of it was too small for its price. The thing that upset me was mainly the service. There were three things happened within 2hours: 1. One staff had no clue about what she was serving. We asked about one sauce included in Tempura and she seemed having no clue (and no effort to find it out). She did not know how to hold/pour hot sake as well. 2. We found a little piece of ceramic in the house sake. It could have been very dangerous if we just drank it. For this, they gave us new Sake. 3. Misunderstanding on the order and the attitude that the staff showed us regarding this. This is really the last thing I wanted to experience if I am eating in the fine restaurant with paying 250CHF. If the service was correct, then maybe the price is okish, but based on what we experienced, it was definitely not pleasant. There was only one person who fit to this restaurant (I guess he was manager/owner), who apologized for the miscommunication.
