YU XIANG YUAN in Montreux

This was a truly terrible dining experience. A total tourist trap - food was barely edible and took almost an hour to be served. We were there on good Friday and lunch and were told the lunch specials did not apply. We were scammed into outrageous costs for awful food. Even rest rooms were awful. Really soured our experience of beautiful Montreux - avoid at all cost!

Not recommended. Unfortunately, the chicken meat was still raw and the blood was swimming in the sauce. (See picture) If we hadn't paid attention while eating, we would have ended up with serious food poisoning. Although pointing out this issue, the owner did not see any problem with raw chicken due to potential salmonella. First, she blamed the pot, afterward she claimed that the raw chicken are tasty and the well-done cooked chicken is unappetizing. Additionally, the environment at YuXiangYuan, with rubbish in front of customers, was unpleasant. (See picture)

Family Chinese restaurant. We ate the ginger chicken there which was delicious. The dishes are prepared quickly with good fresh produce, and we were able to eat quickly. Real food, good atmosphere, good service and lovely people to welcome you. Thank you very much for this good time, we will come back with pleasure!!!

Not recommended, can be said to be very disappointing. The hairy tripe in the tripe maocai was impossible to chew and looked like rubber, so I basically didn’t eat it. I mentioned it to the waiter and she said you should take it home and cook it again. I said that even a young person like me couldn’t chew, and if an old person couldn’t even chew, she asked me whether you have real teeth or dentures. I am speechless. Not to mention the noodles with soybean paste, which cost nearly 20 Swiss francs. The noodles were made with dried noodles and only cucumber slices were included in the menu. The chef was too lazy to even shred them. If I were a waiter, I would humbly accept the customer's opinions, but obviously she was very unhappy, but she is really good at irritating customers.

Lovely brother sister duo running this quiet (but large) authentic Chinese restaurant. Plenty of Vegetarian options with Tofu and Vegetable dishes. We tried the tasty Sweet & Sour Tofu with rice, and the Spicy Tofu Vegetables with rice. The Spicy Cucumber salad with Garlic was too good as well.

Dishes are served one by one so no one eats at the same time I ordered crispy chicken I had sweet and sour chicken I found myself going to eat elsewhere and not even a gesture for the dish which was not good 😑

The worst Chinese restaurant of my life. For context, I lived in China for 6 years so I know a little about Chinese food. We go back, it's just the two of us. A lady immediately takes our order: jiaozi, fried noodles with vegetables and fried beef with vegetables. Jiaozi are frozen. The beef is okay but the worst was the noodles because they were extremely salty. I told the waitress and she told me she didn't believe me. She tastes with chopsticks and insists it’s not true. She warns the chef that in Chinese she says that foreigners know nothing about Chinese cuisine and yes 我听得懂你说的话。 I get up to pay the bill and she also makes me pay for the noodles even if the plate remained on the table and she insisted by offering me 打包 I do not recommend this restaurant. On the way out we went to Chef Lu and it was nothing to see

The worst Chinese food one could ever eat!

I loved this restaurant! The food was delicious. There were plenty vegan options. We ordered lotus roots (spicy), black funghi, broccoli sauteed with garlic and veggie fried rice. It was all great and tasted authentic. The cost was reasonable (about 40 per person). I can tell it's a family run place. The people are very sweet. They let us bring our dog inside without any fuss. Something that can be improved may be that water was served to us in disposable plastic glasses which is not very eco-friendly. However, I think there was some work going on when we went here (we went here during the holidays), so I think it's a temporary thing. Awesome place. Our dog liked it and we loved it too 😊

We left after waiting an hour and 15 minutes with no confidence the food would ever come. Tables around us remained covered in used dishes and food. We didn't have the patience to wait for the food. If you can't handle a customer, tell them upfront.

I was attracted one lunchtime while passing by the simple storefront which reminded me of my stay in Asia and I ate well! I will return: the ravioli and my soup were tasty, authentic to my taste and I felt taken care of. I had a very pleasant lunch experience, charming people, authentic food. 🍲

WE WERE SERVED AFTER TWO HOURS, WE HAD TO EAT IN THE RESTAURANT AFTER CLOSING. THIS IS THE WORST CHINESE RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER SEEN, the food was bland and disgusting. The soup my friend had tasted like water and was cold. The food was too salty. I ordered a Cantonese rice and it looked like the photo below. I have eaten in many Chinese restaurants and I have never been served Cantonese rice like this. In addition, on the site they have put dishes that look appetizing but in reality it is quite the opposite!! GO YOUR WAY!!!

The worst restaurant I have ever eaten in Switzerland. The food was very salty and the ingredients were very stale. The food is so salty that it makes your mouth taste bitter. The lady didn't admit that it was the fault of the food but blamed our taste. This is a restaurant with no bottom line at all, a very bad experience

There were very few customers, but the food was served very slowly. I ordered noodles. The noodles are completely different from Taiwan's noodles, and the soup is light.

I definitey dont come to switzerland expecting good chinese food but i have to say this was one of the worst chinese food ive had. The kungpao chicken was dry and sauce was watery. The braised pork belly still had the pog hair in the skin + also too watery. The fried rice was made with same day rice (a rookie mistake); hence, very clumpy. The service was slow but i can give some leeway as it only seems to be one lady. She was quite accomodating at first. When asking us how the food was, we gave constructive criticism which made her quite defensive🤷🏻‍♀️ The decor is also… interesting for a Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant at all. At least the prices are on the cheaper end

The service was excellent, the owners treated us very kindly, and the atmosphere is pleasant (nice place and soft music in the background).

We have known better... We relied on the photos of the dishes on their webpage, which all looked very appetizing, which is why we were there. Unfortunately, we waited 2 hours to eat. The dishes did not arrive all at the same time. One of the dishes we ordered (eggplant with ground pork) was delicious and had flavor. The rest of the dishes were very disappointing :/ there was nothing authentic Chinese. The decoration with the high ceiling and the hanging lamps were very pretty and gave a nice impression. The place could be improved and cleaner. The service was terrible. The lady was the only one serving and very scattered. Which meant that the service was very slow. There is only one cook. Despite this, the lady who served us was very kind and friendly. Too bad because it could have been really good…

Have to say, it’s the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever walked in in Europe. Slow and bad service, poor environment, very expensive. Most importantly, the dishes tasted very bad. It’s small, extremely salty, and vegetables are not so fresh.

Worst Chinese Restaurant in the world. The dishes are like unfinished and the portion is so small that you can never imagine. The dish of the photo costs 48 SFr. The vegetable are super salty like frozen food.

Don't hesitate to open the restaurant door, you will find authentic Chinese cuisine there. The steamed or fried ravioli are delicious, the lamb with cumin and the chicken with ginger sauce succulent. Everything is spicy just right.

I spend 30 here and didn’t even feel full. Comment as a Chinese. If may not be a good choice if you want to try true Chinese food

We ordered two dishes, Sichuan boiled fish and spicy dry pork stomach. It’s really delicious and authentic. We are just two people but we even ordered three bowl of rice as the food is really good to eat with rice. The price is reasonable too.

A decent restaurant to get Chinese food near our hotel. The restaurant has hot pot tables, which could be good during the cold months. However, we were there in June, and the weather was warm, so we didn’t get the hot pot. The dishes we ordered were okay, but nothing that stood out.

Bad food, slow service. Fried dumplings were burnt, wanton soup had zero taste. We ordered 4 meals and 4 appetizers. There were 2 other people in the restaurant and it took 2 hours to get all the food, we ate 1 at a time as the food came out. Apparently white rice does not come with any of the dishes, we just assumed it would be part of the meal.

The Xiangguo tastes very close to the same dish I used to have in Beijing, which is very nice. But what in the photo is 96 CHF and it’s just enough for two people, and the 12 CHF lamb is nearly invisible. It really tastes good, but really expensive.

Worst place to visit in montreux! The food is cold and stale. The lady is extremely rude and has no idea about her work. I went to this place because of the nice reviews. I dont think any of the reviews are genuine. Highly recommend to not go to this place.

I ordered food for take away at 6:20pm. The woman here said at First that, the food will be ready at 7pm. After pay the bill I asked when I have to back to collect the food. She said at 7pm maybe 7:30pm. I was really angry about that change of time. When I come at 7:30pm after 10 minutes they started to cook my food. Finally I collected the food at 7:55pm!!!! Only what I heard from the woman was sorry.

Chicken curry and salted vegetables fish soup was delicious.

NO! I have no idea what we were thinking. But no means no. For an Indian origin person whose fav cuisine is eating Chinese from any province in every country, this is my biggest disappointment! Sweet and spicy chicken, which was sweet and 0 spicy. For like maybe 2 diced chicken thighs. Beef red curry, if you got the packet and made it, would be better. Cantonese rice was an average portion 2 glasses of wine 10cl @5CHF average 65CHF. Super expensive for VERY VERY low quality food and average service. It's strange we always judge a restaurant by the type of crowd and the Google reviews. I felt like there was something we missed this time. 4.0 rating? Really? People raving about bringing back memories from home. (Shakes head)

All of the food we ordered could actually be delicious if it weren't overly salty. Service is great, friendly. Ambience is nice. We were still full. But you would have to drink a lot of water afterwards to quench your thirst due to the high salt content of the food.

Fried shrimp noodles which are unfortunately noodles without sauce and not fried, with a few vegetables and three shrimps for 22.50 to take away :( too bad!

Being a cook, I noticed poor dressing, an aging and dry taste of food. A few pieces of vegetables scattered on a mountain of noodles probably cooked several times. A soup that was actually a bowl of salted water with a salad leaf on the surface. I was disgusted and also disappointed with the service. I was the only customer on a Monday lunchtime This restaurant needs to get back on track! Perhaps a lack of will and that's a shame since the place is beautiful!

We ordered some food for take away and we had to wait for 1h and 10 min. The food wasn’t that delicious as it should be after such a long waiting time. The owner was very friendly but that’s the only thing i can support in this restaurant.

Probably my worst restaurant experience. Our food (take away) took over an hour to make. We (6 people) were the only costumers the entire time. We weren't warned that it would take this long. My fried tofu with vegetables was extremely oily, so that you could taste the oil, and bland. Didnt taste authentic. Still cost 21.5 francs + 2 extra for the rice. The other dishes werent really good either and had almost no sauce. All portions were way too small for the price. No apologies or a discount. We didnt ask for it but can be expected under these conditions. Food was bad, service was bad and portions were too small. Only positive was the friendly woman who served us.

It was a great dish. The manager was also kind and told me a lot about traveling to Switzerland. thank you very much. It will be a nostalgic memory of your trip to Europe.

The owner was kind but sorry I have to leave a bad review. Since we walked in the restaurant only had one table but when we proceeded to order the lady came to ask if we were ready and I thought she would take it but then she told us to write on a piece of paper for her. After that the drinks came in can with no glass and were provided with a straw. The food was the most horrendous part. 22Fr for a few pieces of ribs that barely had any meat on and it looked something like you would feed to your dog. The plate had barely any food, looked completely unappetising and tasted so so bad. Moreover, the price I mentioned didn't include rice and we had to pay 2Fr extra for rice. Five years living in Switzerland this was the first time that I spent so much money for barely edible food. I really think that this restaurant is a scam please dont waste your time.

We had a terrible experience last night. The place was not kept in a good condition. Lighting was out. The place was dimmed and not in a good way. We ordered hotpot and had to wait for 40 mins. Finally the soup and the frozen meats came out. All low quality. The chicken meat was sever cooked (instead of fresh to cook in hot pot). The smell was awful. I am confident the chicken was about to go bad so they cooked it to cover the bad condition. At the end we walked away and paid 100 euros for what they brought out without eating anything. We just wanted to get away and not spent a min longer. 100 euros was for 2 small bottles of beer 1 big bottle of water (water qlasses are wet) 3 plates of frozen meat and the chicken 2 plates of vegetable I saw another Chinese family returned a food and walked out with dissatisfaction too. I should have left when I saw that. So that was our mistake. The lady said they only have 1 person in the kitchen. I believe the whole place was run by husband (cooking), wife (taking orders& serving). No extra staffs. Overall horrific

Waited 2 hours exactly for food. Out of 11 dishes ordered, only 5 came out in the span of those 2 hours. There’s only 1 person cooking in the kitchen. The lady taking orders is prepping for next day’s service while guests are requesting to order.

With the starter, frozen foods found in stores, we are not served a plate, nor a glass with the drinks. For the main course, after an hour and a half of waiting, we decided to leave without eating

But the worst is the fact that after 1.5 hours of waiting we didn't even receive any dishes. So we decided to leave without having eaten the main course. Never go to this establishment which does not deserve the name of restaurant..

This was honestly a wonderful and delightful meal. As a chinese, this isnt the best chinese food ive had in my life, but this is almost as amazing as the ones ive had in singapore and china. The spice is also extremely manageable ( not for the hardcore spice lovers) so it is great for those without a good spice tolerance. In Switzerland, Cold sandwiches is so frequently eaten a good hot and spicy meal really spices up my holidays here. The host were amazing, they frequently checked on us and even gave us better portions, the spicy boiled fish had so many fish fillets and the fish was very fresh. The hosts are also frequent in mandarin, English and french ( based on my experience). 10/10

Found this by chance when we visited Montreux on a weekend trip. Very friendly owners and delicious food! We had hotpot and beer. Will definitely be back!

I have some reserve on this Chinese restaurant. The owner’s attitude is excellent but food wise not even close to Chinese cuisine. And the price is expensive too.

Lovely couple that can speak mandarin and Cantonese. They were so happy when they knew we spoke Cantonese. Foods there were great! We ordered a pork and a shrimp, and 2 bowls of soup. Sour and spicy soup is so good for a cold weather. All taste great for the Asian tongue of mine!

We fell in love with this very authentic Chinese restaurant - they even have traditional hot pot tables! Great service, owners really care about their clients having the best experience. Place feels great as well with big windows and high ceiling. Will definitely come back!

The boss is very friendly, the advice is very good, the quality of the food is excellent. If you like Chinese food, you must visit this restaurant.

As someone who's from the San Francisco Bay Area and eats Chinese food everyday, I was fortunate enough to find this hidden gem. It is authentic Chinese food, spices and all.

I live in the US (formerly California) and I'm surprised at how tasty this was! The flavors were on point and the chicken and beef we ordered were both tender, and the vegetables fresh. Definitely worth a visit, especially for all you Asians like me that get withdrawal from lack of Asian food after 3 days.

The best Chinese restaurant I have visited in Switzerland. The owners are adorable and the dishes are all excellent and freshly prepared! The best is to take several dishes and starters and share. I'm already looking forward to going back!

Delicious and authentic Chinese food in Montreux, the dishes took me back to the days eating out with my Chinese relatives when I was younger. It’s amazing how some tastes can hold so much loving memory. Owners are very friendly and accommodating. A no-frills restaurant where what really counts (the food) is outstanding and flawless! I recommend you try their dessert as well.

The portion of boiled beef is very small, and the beef roll cannot make up to ten slices of beef roll, pickled fish, and only a few slices of fish. Both dishes are tasteless and fool foreigners... The spicy and sour cabbage is made with bean paste... The best thing I have ever eaten in Europe Terrible Chinese food.

The owner is very welcoming but the restaurant and the toilets are dirty. Public health should stop by. Average food and Cantonese rice with burnt taste. No confidence with my allergies.

Good welcome but above all the preparation of dishes that would make Flash blush. We sat down with my friend David Almeida and within 5 minutes we received our dishes. The quality of the food is also very good! The fried noodles are excellent, especially the chicken ones. The staff is professional and attentive. If you want to have a good time alone, with family or on a date come here, you will not be disappointed! Ps: I'm not a good photographer but I assure you it's good 😂

Small subdued atmosphere with a good background melody. A good welcome, very friendly. The efficiency in serving the dishes was incredible, comparable to a fast food restaurant. The chicken fried noodles were both succulent and spicy!! During this meal I was clearly able to travel. Thank you for this trip to China!!

I am an Asian who love Asian food specifically China Food. The food is excellent, the Canton style sweet and sour pork are authentic, can easier par with those from Hong Kong, using the original ingredient of cucumber and pineapple, right amount of sweetness on the crispy pork and ain't too sour. As for the mapo tofu, this is so far the only one I tasted that resemble the similarity to those I had in Si Chuan Restuarant. Taste of peppercorn, and mild spiciness and soft Silken Tofu. Of course, a small bowl of tomyum soup. They serve hot pot but it will be too heavy for my early lunch. And the owner speak very good Cantonese!! Feel so at home!
