We arrived at 14:00, the sign on the door says they close 14:30 but yet we were turned away. Not accommodating at all. Found a better place to eat across the road
The Eiger restaurant in Wengen BE is well located right next to the train station. The food is good and the service is good too, I don't have anything major to complain about.
What was supposed to be a short coffee break in the afternoon turned into a long test of patience.
The terrace is partly self-service and partly serviced.
We asked an employee where the service was because it wasn't clear to us at the beginning.
So we sat down at a served table. There were still empty dishes from the previous guests on several tables; we were there at 2:30 p.m. on a weekday in the low season. (March 14, 2024) So the terrace was not full.
Several waiters walked past us without paying any attention.
New guests you knew were greeted with a friendly handshake or hug, and orders were taken sporadically or not.
Our neighbor at the table also seemed to be waiting. After asking briefly, she confirmed that she had been waiting for her coffee for 15 minutes.
At some point our table neighbor was noticed and had to order her coffee again because it had been forgotten. It seemed to us as if this was the order of the day here.
A quick look at the reviews here confirmed our feeling that the service does not seem to be very efficient, attentive and guest-oriented.
We left the terrace and said goodbye to the employee (whom we initially asked about the service). She just looked at us in surprise, whereupon we said that we hadn't been served.
Her answer was not her responsibility, but the gentlemen's.
Our first visit here and unfortunately our last!

Food: over the top! As a starter I had Lenker salmon trout, with salad, toast and butter and an incredibly well-seasoned dressing, which was also a pleasure to look at on the plate. You are what you eat! I could have literally bathed in it! As a main course, perfectly fried Lenker beef ribeye, extremely seasoned, beautifully presented and simply heavenly good.
Service: personal, friendly and very attentive and humane.
Cell phone flight mode: I was informed about this before I arrived and I thought this house rule was brilliant! Compassion and understanding comes when you know why this rule exists. It's really enriching to take some time out and consciously talk to the other person at the table, the boss and everyone you meet in a restaurant and exchange ideas and get to know each other. We had very good and surprisingly profound conversations. This is how I like eating out.
All in all, an enriching, profound and enjoyable evening! Thank you Reto and team for your work!
We ate very well and received excellent service, highly recommended, not cheap but worth the price. Sorry, should be 4 stars, we can't rate the room because we didn't stay overnight.
Were very disappointed! The restaurant used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Biel. Although the spring rolls were good; the crust of the sweet and sour chicken was soggy and way too soft. Hardly edible. A pity!
